UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

No. 1 in football, Adams and hoops talk
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Long time no see! I’m back from a brief hiatus from the blogosphere. Did you miss me?
That’s what I thought.
Sorry I haven’t been able to update the blog daily as I usually do for the past week. After the bowl game and the holidays and all, I had tons to catch up on at home and at work from a paperwork and organization standpoint and I just haven’t had much extra time beyond my base duties.
But I’m back now, got the old fingers loosened up and ready to blog up a storm. And man is there a lot to blog about.
Now personally I’d like to talk about the basketball team because it is, after all, basketball season. But when I do that the responses in this space tend to drop about 75 percent compared to just about any football topic we could discuss.
So let’s just consider today a clearinghouse day and we’ll touch on everything we can and then, as usual, I’ll ask you guys to let me know what you want to discuss the rest of this week and next one.
Let’s hear your thoughts on the following:
What do you think of the Bulldogs getting all this national love as the preseason No. 1 in football next season? As you all know, that can be a double-edge sword. Expectations can’t get any higher than No. 1. Some would say there’s only one way to go from there. On the other hand, as we’ve seen from LSU and Ohio State this year and others in other years, the good thing about being ranked so high at the beginning is it’s easier to get back there at the end should you lose grip somewhere along the way.
And what about President Adams making his carefully-orchestrated splash regarding a college football playoff? It really surprised me because I’ve had some discussions with Dr. Adams on the subject and I remember him being pretty skeptical about it when Florida’s Bernie Machen broached it a couple of years ago. My theory on it is, Adams, ever the calculating politician, proposed an eight-team playoff knowing he’d never get what he asked for but even a 50 percent or 25 percent negotiated settlement would mean a four-team playoff or a plus-one. Both would be better than the crap we had to settle for this season.
Does Adams’ move put him any more in favor with you, the Bulldog Nation? Not sure if that was what he was going for but he was roundly booed in pregame ceremonies before the Sugar Bowl.
And finally, regarding the basketball team, what did you think of the Dogs’ win over Georgia Tech? Neither team looks very strong at the moment. As a friend of mine who is a basketball fan said at halftime of that game, “the NIT just called and neither team is invited.” Obviously expectations have to be tempered with the loss of three starters now but could you live with Dennis Felton’s team missing the Big Dance again this year and do you have any problems with the attrition that was created this season.
Let’s go. Let’s talk about it. I’m energized and ready to rock.
And stay away from all the trash-talking. One of my resolutions this year to be less tolerant of the immaturity that often rears its ugly head on this board.
Happy New Year. Should be a great one!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Arthur Blank for attempting to to lure Pete Carroll away from USC, thereby clearing Georgia’s path to the preseason consensus number one spot. Well done Mr. Blank. Bravo.

Chip,
I don’t know what to do with Coach Felton. He has shown only decent recruiting at best, hasn’t won much with what he has (i.e. no big wins really against teams we should lose to), and now the academics appear pretty dim if 3 guys were suspended for them, on top of our last report. He has now had 5 years, and his biggest accomplishment is that he has beaten Tech so many years and that supposed wiz-coach at GaTech.
Hard to give him another year at this point.
Adams is a fool. Everyone has called him out as pushing a political agenda, and it only seems to diminish the shine on the UGA football team. But we are stuck with him, so, what can you do?
As for the team, it will be a good thing to see if Richt can live up to the “Greatest team he has coached in his career!” Ok, he isn’t Donnan, and I think he has proved he is a good coach and motivator. Barring injuries, it looks like there is a lot of leadership on this team and I think they will do fine.

Thanks Chip! Can’t wait for the Nerds from that terrorist training camp in Atlanta to get on here. We have a lot to be proud about in Athens. Georgia just built a new 25 million dollar basketball/gymnastics facility, so the future is bright there as well. 8 team playoff is too much, but I do agree with a “plus 2 format.”

Welcome back, Chip - first off, good call on the resolution. This board all too often turns into a name calling contest.
1) I think you’re right, the ranking thing is a double edged sword. Personally, I wish we could just stay in the top five without everyone singing our praises but it certainly is nice to be recognized for doing something right. Too bad it’s January and not late fall. I just hope CMR continues to work whatever magic he had running for the last half of the year. These guys have everything looking them right in the face, let’s hope they can handle the stress and hype.
2 & 3) While the proposal itself will at least, hopefully, get the discussion going about a playoff, it will never happen. At least not with eight teams. These guys are resistant enough with a plus one, no way they adopt an eight-team playoff anytime soon. As for #3 - Adams is still a grandstanding, blowhard, attention w******* so, no, my opinion hasn’t changed. There would have been nothing wrong with saving his proposal release for another day or so. I’m not an LSU fan but they deserved their day in the sun. Adams hurt the University’s image once again and kept the whiner and sour grapes view of UGA front and center.
4) Personally I have no problem with Felton or his system. As far as I’m concerned he hasn’t just been cleaning up Harrick’s mess personnel-wise but culture/environment-wise as well. The b-ball Dawgs are going to struggle again this year but they’re getting there. I have enough faith in him and the recruits he has coming next year to feel that good things are coming. Get the right guys in there that want to do the right thing and want to win and the rest will take care of itself. Personally, I’m encouraged.

I agree with you on the trash talk Chip. I have no problem at all with Tech fans, Florida fans, or anybody’s fans supporting their team and saying something positive about them but when they come on here just to make stupid and unsubstantiated criticisms it puts me in a backup mode and I’ll call them out. I don’t like doing that believe it or not, so the more that can be policed the better.
I am not an Adams fan. He is calculating as you say and he is arrogant, demonstrating forcefully that he didn’t give a rip what Georgia fans felt when he fired Dooley. On the other hand he is very engaging in person, he created a situation that brought us Mark Richt more quickly than Dooley would have if left to his own devices and his playoff proposal has merit. I do not like the timing of the proposal.

As for a pre-season ranking, I think one of the best things about the team that we have is character. I don’t think they will take it as if they’ve earned something but rather something they need to hold onto and not let anyone take away from them. I also think that if Caleb and the other young backs can spell Moreno so that he doesn’t have to carry it 25+ times and if Stafford throws 25 times or less, we have real good chance at maintaining consistent production. If we can blow people off the ball and force the run it establishes consistency.
While our schedule is a bear, the only type of team that scares me is one that can force the run and make plays in the passing game. In other words a team like ours. Fortunately, everyone is going finesse which will allow our defensive speed to control the game.
As far as Adams’ plan. If he’s for it I’m against it. If any LSU fans were offended, I apologize. We think he’s a douche too.

1)I don’t care where Ga starts off being ranked although at the top is fine as would be 2 or 3.#2)Adams is a blight on the University and a public relations nightmare.Nothing he can do can erase what he has done.#3)see #2.#4 I have no problem with Coach Felton. He came into a mess and is doing everything he can to clean up a very dirty situation. Also GREAT call on stopping the juvenile trash that goes on on these blogs. Thanks for that….And Happy New Year to youBy Bob

Chip,
You are so right about Adams and getting booed in NOLA. Hell, those boos were almost as loud as the ones for the “distinguished” mayor of the city, Mr. Nagin. I suspect Adams somehow suspects he can get on the good side of UGA fans, but I don’t think too many are buying it. I am very skeptical about 8 team playoff anyway…what fans can afford that? And it was totally tacky to announce it on the day LSU should have been in the spotlight.
But as bad as Adams was, Machen was no better. He whined and complained last year when it appeared that Corso and Herbstreit and Holtz were going to lobby to get Michigan into the game against OSU. Funny how not being a conference champion did not bother them last year isn’t it? Neither Adams or Machen spoke up in 04 when Auburn really got the shaft. They both spoke up when it was their institution was being gored.
I would prefer us rated 3 or 4, but what the hell. Might as well go for the gusto. And Felton really inherited a mess and a half. Throw in a lot of bad luck and his determination to do things right, we need to be patient. Who are we going to get that is better? I hear Jim Harrick is looking for a job. LOL

Mike Adams can be against terrorism, communism, and wife beating but the majority of UGA fans have permanently written him off no matter what he says or does.
Chip: Here’s a fun idea for a blog — Just ask readers to submit their theories on why ESPN/national media appear to disfavor UGA (rationale must provide eupport - e.g., ABC televises the Rose Bowl and they own ESPN so they’ll always favor USC).
I think the new-found national love for UGA has several reasons:
UGA should be good next year.
UGA just systematically dismantled Hawaii. Cognitive dissonance — people supported Hawaii as an underdog. UGA soundly beat the team they supported so the love is transferred to UGA.
The SEC dominance was so clear-cut this year that ESPN or anyone else will look out-of-touch if they appear to be denying it.
I think people naturally root for the underdog. If the underdog starts winning again (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, etc.) then fans will move on and find another underdog to root for. UGA has not won a national championship in a while so it’s now our turn. I am a big an SEC fan as anyone but if Kansas, Missouri, or West Virginia had won the national championship I’d be cool with that because they either have never done it or have not done it in living memory.
ESPN is looking for something new and different to promote and UGA fits the bill.
Knowshon. Richt should pull a Meyer — if we get knocked out of the national championship race then run KM to the Heisman.
Massive coaching changes. SEC coaching had turnover, and UGA’s opponents were hit — Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn. UGA’s coaching staff has, I believe, remained static. The stability should favor UGA (although I think Auburn’s new OC is a big plus for AU if they have a good QB).
UGA’s recruiting. The OL investment of last year should pay off. The incoming class is great. Prior classes were really good.
UGA’s coaching staff. Bobo has a year under his belt. Richt had defining moments this season.
The UGA 2008 schedule is killer. IF UGA pulls it off, then UGA deserves top billing. Pulling it off will mean the team is battle-tested for a BCS Championship game. All LSU-OSU post-game commentary was about either (i) SEC really is faster and/or (ii) SEC schedule prepared LSU better than Big 10 schedule prepared OSU.

Welcome Home Chip - We Missed Ya! (Especially after enduring Terrence Moore a couple of times).
The Dawgs are talented, well coached, have depth, execute well, have high emotions and the icing on the cake is the CONFIDENCE they have shown in their last several games. This will carry them through the tough schedule.
I have been calling out for a playoff system for years - most all of us have. I have to say it’s kind of sad that a bunch of college presidents (most of whom probably know little of football)have the final say in this. There would have been a playoff system in place long ago otherwise.
Adams has never been my favorite guy. I’m a ‘79 alum and enjoyed Dooley and the ‘80 N.C.(My brother went to ND - we sat on opposite sides of the N.O. Superdome!). I never liked the way Dooley was treated.
I could care less about basketball but I’m tickled to see The Dawgs beat GT AGAIN! Those Jackets smacked long and hard about how badly they would beat The Dawg Football Team. When they lost they came up with every excuse in the book for the loss (except that they were beaten by a better team) and kept saying - “Wait till we get you on the basketball court!” GT is ruining the great tradition they had so very long ago. Time for GT to drop their sports programs.

With both the early #1 ranking and Adams’ comments about a playoff, the most important thing is getting the name “Georgia” in the national conscious. This can only help with future rankings , respect and recruiting.

I think Coach Felton needs to start showing some positive results in the win/loss column. While he wants to have this aura of being a discipline coach, he nor his staff are on top of the day to day operations of the program enough to know whether the kids he’s charged with are even going to class? I do not propose coach get fired, but his contract needs to stop being rolled over each year, until he starts to show that he can win and get us in the NCAA’s.

Chip, fair to ask if YOU missed me. Well, us at least.
-1. I know how fun it is to make fun of ESPN and their perceived snub of the SEC and moreso UGA, but those guys only reflect whos hot and whos not. Face it, USC made it awfully easy to get love over the past few years. And I’ve never heard ESPN saying that the SEC was NOT the best football conference in the land. Face it, if all the coverage and comments were SEC all the time (which it easily could be), is there really any national coverage of college football? Didn’t anyone else see Davis, Holtz and May a few nights after the Sugar falling all over themselves for UGA? They were. Holtz even took a moment to personally say how he never gave Richt enough credit, but he thought the man could “flat out coach”, and wrote him a letter to that effect. Even May was on the bandwagon. UGA wins and stay impressive and they WILL get the love. Its not really that complicated, and far less sinister as we make it (them) out to be sometimes.
-2. Pres Adams could damn sure use a better PR man, but despite what folks think of his stlye, the man gets things done. It’s almost comical to list all the things that folks, convinced the sky would fall around him, have said, only to see the exact opposite. The University AND its football program have never been in better shape. Havent met the man yet, that actually stopped sending in his FB contribution or went to greener grasses (get it?) I think the whole deal with the calling for a an 8-team playoff is going to prove to be the reason the BCS finally gets a message and creates some sort of play-in game. Maybe not the full playoff, not sure that was really the goal. Ask yourself this, how soon was the BCS going to change before some a’hole rattled the chains?
-3. Booing the president of your school, hell boing anyone in that setting, is simply low class.
-4. The thing I have to consider with Felton, is that he DID take UGA from worst (by far) in the entire league and bring them back to respectability on the court. So the man can at least coach. Last year actually would have tied for best in the West? Not sure he is going to reach some higher level this year, but stuff does happen, and at least half the SEC teams will not be better than last year either. I personally do not think its a mandate or realistic that every basketball team gets 5 games better every year. I’ve also read he was just an average recruiter. Given onlya couple of years with full scholaships, who/what exactly is the standard there? And he has signed some pretty athletic players lately. Trying to be realistic.

i don’t think we will be preseason #1.i think 2 or 3 possibly, but i think usc will be # 1 in the bcs.this suits me fine,we will have a big enough bullseye on our back as it is.it is time for a playoff,or we need to go back to the day of no offical no 1.the champion should be the ncaa champion, not some”bcs”champion.an 8 team playoff will work using the existing bowls.my beef with dr adams extends beyond the timing of his playoff announcment,or his handling of coach dooley,or his disregard for the uga fans.i think he has no desire to be loved by uga supporters,he made that plain in the dooley fiasco.i don’t care about that either, just as long as he does his job.what bothers me about adams is his monumental ego.he wants a”harvard of the south”.that is not a role for a state supported, state chartered university.uga was established for the education of the sons and daughters of the citizens and taxpayers of the state of georgia.denying admission to our state’s qualified students and giving scholarships to students of other states and countrys is not fulfilling uga’s role.if adams wants to preside over the”harvard of the south”he should apply at emory!besides, yale is our traditional sister university, not harvard!i think felton is doing his job,he had a big mess to clean up and it hasn’t been pretty.we have scholarships to offer now and are actually recruiting some good talent.given time i think felton will make us a winner.i agree with you on the trash talk, none of the insults are original and the language tends to become foul.fans of other schools are welcome of course, the general, atlanta gator, and war eagle write posts that are worth reading.gt usually has something to say.i enjoy reading what these guys have to say.

OK, I’m a Tech fan, but I’m not here to trash-talk (it’s kind of hard to do that right now if you’re a Tech fan anyway). And congratulations on the win last night. But where is all this “we beat GT in basketball again” coming from? You win every time in Athens and we win every time in Atlanta, no matter how good or bad either team is. And this year they are both bad - I saw that first hand. I have my doubts about Hewitt, even though we have 4 NCAA (including a final four) and 1 NIT appearance in his 7 years. I’ve always thought Felton was a great coach, but the cleaning up after Harrick excuse is getting old. These are HIS players that are being kicked off or quitting now.
Finally, how many of you remember who was ranked #1 in football at the beginning of this year? You figure to be great next year, but you will have a target on your back.

I’m new to posting so everyone take it easy on me.
1)It is nice to have some positive press but it will never make up for the crap we have had to put up with from some of those ESPN guys. Lou Holtz has made his career out of insulting us. He should have retired 5 years ago. I could write five pages of his stupid comments
2)Adams should have gave LSU a day in the sun before he opened his mouth. Scott Boras the second!
3)I thought that university presidents only stayed at schools 5-7 years? What gives?
4)Our program looked so bad 5 years ago we need to give him 10 years minimum. Just don’t embarrass us anymore.
Additionally - I want to thank GT for basically conceding the state to UGA, but please don’t let your lost recruits go to the Gators. I would prefer you keep them!

As far as the basketball team goes, I’m pretty fed up with the mediocrity. I am sick and tired of “this being the year” and it never panning out in any way shape or form. And losing our top two players before the season starts??? That’s unexcusable. I generally like Coach Felton and he seems like a great guy to me, but what would possess a coach to put his team in that kind of position? I know they each had a bit of an ego but so did Michael Jordan. We’ll never know what actually happened, but anything short of punching Felton in the face should be a fixable situation for a good coach. I hate to admit it, but I haven’t even gone to a single game yet this year because of this. I’ll certainly go when SEC play starts, but I really am so sick and tired of the same ol’ same ol’ year in and year out.

I’m pretty tired of Felton. When does the “he inherited a mess” argument stop? It seems to me that the past few years he’s been CREATING a mess.
Every year we lose players because they quit or get kicked off the team. These are his players that HE recruited.
The team is mediocre (at best) and constantly looks lost on offense. They play inspired D but they just don’t score the basketball with any ease or consistency.
It’s time to admit that Felton is over his head and can’t win at UGA.

Isn’t it nice just to see UGA football and #1 in the same statement? It’s been WAY too long. Anyway, Dr. Adams said from day one that he would get our football program back in the national championship mindset, and he has! I don’t like the Dooley scenario any better than anyone, but you can’t argue with where we are right now. As far as basketball goes, I hope we do well but they don’t bring home the bacon like the football program does so who cares? Football rules and that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. War Eagle Do you want to please explain what you THINK is FALSE about these statements sir ?
Hey War Eagle, Coach Richt has a WINNING RECORD vs. Auburn and has WON 4 of the last 6.
Georgia has been ranked AHEAD of Auburn 5 of the 7 Years of The Coach Richt Era in the Final AP Polls.
Yeah, I have a lot of respect for teams Coach Richt does BETTER THAN too. I can afford to be that generous in The Coach Richt - these are The Good Ole Days - Era.
Nice year there War Eagle Auburn No. 15 in the Final AP Poll, while Coach Richt led The Georgia Bulldogs to The No. 2 Final AP Poll Ranking with Three (3) 1st Place No. 1 National Champion Votes giving Coach Richt now a 72-19 Record while Auburn has been 66-23 since Coach Richt took this gig 7 years ago.

First off, Michael F. Adam$ is a joke, and he and everyone like him calling for an 8-team playoff, is asking for what they cannot have. If everyone would be consistent and ask for a Plus One +1 we could get our collective weight behind that and accomplish something together - all of us. This year, that would have meant that Ohio State would have LOST to Georgia and LSU would have beat Southern California. And, rightfully, LSU would have had to have played UGA.
Secondly, proposing that the Rose Bowl, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowl be played on January 1 after a LAST GAME of November 27th, deleting the 13th game IS WHY HIS PROPOSAL IS WRONG AND WILL NEVER GET APPROVED. In 8-team format, the Conferences have to be required to have a game to determine 1 team to be automatically in it from each of the 6 BCS Conferences, and then fill in with at-large or non-BCS conferences for the 1st Round. This 1st Round MUST happen 1st week December. The 8-team format STARTS 15 December and have them at Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange Bowl Sites. Have these 4 sites rotate to determine the semi-final games January 1 at 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm so everyone can watch them. Then a week later have NC Title Game at again rotating site of the 4.
Thirdly, what he should have said was leave everything like it is, except the one 5th BCS Bowl Game now rotating as it is, becomes the game of the winner of Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange by way of the Polls (AP and Coaches ONLY.) or a committee either one. This would make LSU and UGA again, please note, this season. This is PLUS +1 .
Fourthly, in a 4-team playoff, have the BCS not choose 2 teams and leave all the other “BCS Bowls” out of the picture as they always have, but include the Top 4 teams to be seeded. This year, if they continue to disregard the AP Poll which is the 1 Poll everyone does quote, that would again pit No. 1 Ohio State and No. 4 UGA. winner to play winner of No. 2 LSU versus Oklahoma. Again, UGA would play LSU. If you rotate 4 teams, this does NOT WORK for the 4 BCS Bowls because 2 bowls are left out - taking teams 5 or worse. This is why the 4-team doesn’t work.
Yeah, we booed him at Dome Sugar Bowl - until I was hoarse, we booed him and his wife.

If any ACC team loses to UGA , they should withdraw from their conference and perhaps from the NCAA. Hewitt really needs to reconsider his relevance as an NCAA coach. Where was Adams when Auburn got screwed out of the nat champ? This is so transparent. He’s now talking about a playoff only because the UGA money crowd (how did they get it?) forced him to do it.

http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/toughest%20schedule/ia9gamescumm.pdf
Southern Cal No. 3 AP Poll beat No. 16 AP Poll Arizona State and No. 20 AP Poll Illinois this season.
UGA No. 2 AP Poll beat No. 13 AP Poll Florida, No. 15 AP Poll Auburn and No. 19 AP Poll Hawaii.
Only LSU did better than UGA in beating Top Ranked Teams, as measured by their Final Rankings, which are the ONLY rankings Published for any season. LSU beat No. 5 AP Poll Ohio State, No. 9 AP Poll Virginia Tech, No. 12 AP Poll Tennessee, No. 13 AP Poll Florida, and No. 15 AP Poll Auburn.
Clearly LSU did better than UGA.
But, the 2 did not get to play each other.
And, it is THIS that must be fixed. The SEC Championship Game which is supposed to be a boost to BCS Top-Ranked SEC Teams should NOT disregard Tennessee’s out-of-conference losses and have No. 16 vols in the game instead of No. 2 UGA.

LSU got the nod because LSU deserved the nod. It was Ohio State who had no damn business in that game with Ohio State’s NCAA Official Strength of Schedule (including LSU) of No. 38.
Ohio State beat No. 18 AP Poll Michigan and No. 24 AP Poll Wisconsin. That’s it. These are the ONLY teams Ohio State beat this season who were in the Final AP Poll Top 25. Michigan lost to Appalachian State (who lost to Georgia Southern and Wofford) and Wisconsin beat NO AP Poll Top 25 team.
The PAC-10 and the Big 10 were NOT as good a conference as was The SEC.
Everyone knew that of the 9 SEC Bowl Teams who went 7-2, probably all 9 would have beat Ohio State. Ohio State’s SOS before getting to play LSU was No. 58. With LSU, it was No. 38 NCAA SOS.
Hawaii was No. 17 in the Coaches’ Poll, so all 3 of UGA’s best wins 14 Auburn, 16 Florida and 17 Hawaii were BETTER and HIGHER RANKED than 18 Michigan and 21 Wisconsin in the Final USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
Georgia is better off No. 2 in the Preseason Polls, and like other posters above I love to see Arthur Blank get Pete Carroll. Not because I am a Falcons’ fan, but like the others because he recruits too well for UGA to get the love in the polls he gets, never mind his stinky schedule and stinky conference.
LSU loses 2 games every year with Les Miles, and their schedule is NOT NEARLY as tough as ours.

UGA will NOT go undefeated. But, if we had started higher than No. 13 Preseason this last year in both Coaches’ and AP Polls, we would have been NC this year.
Hats off to LSU for 2nd NC. They deserved it. We didn’t; we had a BAD YEAR 2006 and started too far back preseason polls.
We don’t have that problem this up-coming season. Be thankful for what we have. We play a FAR TOUGHER SCHEDULE than any team ranked at the top of the polls this last year and again next year. It is what UGA does and why the players play here and want to be recruited here. And, why I Love My Dawgs.
I am supposed to say something about basketball. (1) Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt has a LOSING RECORD to UGA. (2) Dennis Felton has a WINNING RECORD over Georgia Tech. (3) Georgia Tech doesn’t have winning record today and has only unranked UConn out-of-conference left. Good Luck Paul Hewitt, you LOSER. (4) Georgia is 9-4 and is 8-4 vs. Division 1 teams. We have 17 games left this season including 1 SEC Tournament Game. We have to somehow go therefore (8-4) 5-12 in The SEC to be against Division 1-A teams this year after 1 game in SEC Tournament, 13-12.
I have no idea how we can go 5-12 the rest of the way before either NCAA or NIT would choose us.
But, by God Above, I know this AJ-C biased reporters, we are a HELL of a LOT better team than Georgia Tech.
And, that is ALL that matters. So, the biased AJ-C can say all they want about how neither Tech nor UGA is any bloody good at men’s basketball. Try comparing the 2.
Hint hint.

When you Tech nerds want to start comparing Baseball records against each other, World Series and NC, let me know Nats, because these 2 sports are CLEAR to everyone but the AJ-C biased reporters who say (1) Paul Hewitt is great. (2) Paul Johnson is great (Who quit as a recruit today ? I haven’t heard yet today.) (3) UGA has academic issues when it was Georgia Tech who lost 6 scholarships for ACADEMIC CHEATING in the 2007-2008 College Football Season (79 instead of 85.) and now Comparing the 2 Programs in Men’s Basketball lumps us both together and offers up the biased, neither are worth a damn. Excuse me biased AJ-C reporters, would you say UGA is BETTER than Tech in Men’s Basketball AGAIN this year, or NOT ?
Let me know when we move on to Baseball Tech Nats ?

That’s just exactly like Jeff Schultz said this morning, calling UGA the “Academics” when again I point out to the biased AJ-C that NOT both UGA and Tech are horrible at Academic Progress Rate (APR) NCAA’s ONLY Penalty-based Measurement of Football Players at the 2 schools, but that UGA’s Football Players have a HIGHER APR than Tech’s Football Players.
And, you compare the 2 at this too and conviently state, both are bad at that too.
Try comparing the 2 LOCAL schools.
Georgia Southern cannot beat UGA in Men’s Basketball either.

XXXX this newspaper sent Chip Towers in here to ASK ABOUT BASKETBALL, like anyone gives a hoot about Men’s Basketball besides BEATING Georgia Tech Nats.
I told him, didn’t I ?
Why would I go to the Tar Heel state and discuss men’s basketball ? The only thing I care about Men’s Basketball is that Georgia beat Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball, and that our players are not in Israel in Prison.

The 1st time Tech is ahead of UGA in the AP Poll in Football, they make Front Page Headlines about it, never mind that Tech ends up No. 100 and UGA No. 2.
Every time there is a OBVIOUS comparison like when UGA beat Tech last night NOT ON TV, not even the pay-per-view which is offering it “FREE” from 1-3 to 1-11 or so, the AJ-C says that BOTH ARE HORRIBLE.
I’ll comment on THAT.

Chip Towers quote : (4) And finally, regarding the basketball team, what did you think of the Dogs’ win over Georgia Tech? Neither team looks very strong at the moment. As a friend of mine who is a basketball fan said at halftime of that game, “the NIT just called and neither team is invited.” Obviously expectations have to be tempered with the loss of three starters now but could you live with Dennis Felton’s team missing the Big Dance again this year and do you have any problems with the attrition that was created this season.
Clearly, every AJ-C article on the non-televised game (tape), is that neither is any good.
That includes YOU Chip Towers, specifically.
.1.Hewitt losing record to UGA.
.2.Felton Winning record over Georgia Tech.
.3.Georgia Tech does NOT have winning record this season and now has only out-of-conference UConn left with NO HOPE of NOTHING.
.4.Georgia 9-4, 8-4 Division 1 needs to go 5-12 the rest of the way all against SEC, including 1 SEC Tournament Game before NIT or NCAA bids go out.
.5.Georgia is clearly better than Georgia Tech, as much as that pains the AJ-C to put in your rag and set-off the 29,000 Tech alumni in your readership to the quarter of a million UGA alumni wondering why you can’t bring yourself to say : UGA is better than Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball this season.
Go ahead Chip Towers, you can say it. We all know. UGA is better than Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball AGAIN this season.

If Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball player Will Bynum had gone to UGA, the AJ-C would have had a reporter on a plane instantly to get to the bottom of the details.
And, it would have been Front Page News.
Not hidden 1 paragraph at the back of only the sports pages.
What we do know is that Will Bynum was DUI that he ran a person over in his car drunk in the parking lot leaving the night club in Israel, and that the victim had to have surgery to his hip obviously.
UGA beat Will Bynum’s and his teammates’ collective butts when he did play at Georgia Tech on Paul Hewitt’s basketball teams and that he did NOT graduate from Georgia Tech.
In fact, we also know that Will Bynum has NOT DONE A THING playing basketball in Israel.
We also know that Will Bynum remains under arrest.
We further know that there was a fight between Will Bynum and the DJ of the night club in Israel, that it was his birthday and that his brother and another friend were the main culprits in the fight, which was taken outside to the parking lot where the drunk Tech basketball player Bynum ran over the DJ causing serious bodily harm.
These are the facts.
How many headlines would that generate in the AJ-C if it were an UGA men’s basketball player Chip ?
When would you, or one of the more favored AJ-C sports-writers have been put on a plane to Israel to get to the bottom of his now house arrest and what his stats are with the Israeli basketball team ?
Your questions about Men’s Basketball Chip Towers are biased.

If Will Bynum was a Georgia Men’s Basketball player, you would have been all over this, had Front Page Headlines in bold print, would have interviewed Will Bynum, have his stats in Israel and won/loss record against UGA (never a winning record against UGA in the Paul Hewitt era for Tech), and would have put someone on a plane to cover the story.
So, when do you think an AJ-C reporter will get a $495 plane ride to Israel Chip Towers ?

Will Bynum was driking from before midnight until 5 a.m. the next day when he finally left the G-Spot Bar, and ran over the DJ whose girlfriend Will Bynum wanted a relationship with. It was not until two (2) hours later after 7 a.m. when the Police finally found Will Bynum, who was “NOT surprised the Police arrived” but said he was “unaware he had run anyone over.”

Here, I will look it up for you AJ-C.
5 points a game, in the Israel basketball league - that’s what Will Bynum is averaging. 5 points a game.
Will Bynum was NEVER DRAFTED by NO ONE, ever.
He tried to get on with the Celtics, as an undrafted player, but was quickly cut as soon as he tried to show up.
Sherill Baker UGA Basketball player, who graduated from UGA, has done much better in Israel than Will Bynum.
And, Sherill Baker is NOT under arrest, nor has been under arrest.
By ............................................BuLLdawg
January 11, 2008 3:34 AM | Link to this
Will Bynum is also under arrest for Fleeing the Scene of an Accident.
Bynum told Police that he “was unaware he had hit anyone with his car” drunk as he was.
His version of the events is substantially different from all the eye-witnesses :
” Bynum rejected the youths’ claim that the argument began when he made advances toward a woman from the Dimona group. Bynum said he was provoked into a scuffle when one of the group pushed him over. The scuffle quickly died down and the club’s security staff were not called in. “
” When Bynum, his brother and Cummings left the club at around 5:30, however, he was greeted outside by five youths from Dimona, and within minutes fists and stones were flying. According to eyewitnesses, Bynum and his brother ran to his car, which was parked nearby, got in and drove toward the group. After hitting one member of the group, Bynum sped off. “
” Police say that when they arrived at Bynum’s apartment some two hours later he did not appear surprised to see them, but protested his innocence when told of the accusations against him. An inspection of Bynum’s car found obvious indications of an accident, including bloodstains. “
Now, do you want to see if you can follow up on it ?

My wife and I both graduated from UGA, her in 95, myself in 96. We were there for Donnan, the firing of a basketball coach who had been there forever and was still providing decent results, Ron Jersa, Tubby (the one-year project) Smith, and host of other “choices”. All the talk about how wonderful coach Dooley is and how he was unjustly run out of office needs to stop. Coach Dooley is a fine upstanding man. He did great things for the University while there. However, his track record as an AD is not very good. I will always remember him for his positive accomplishments.
For all the Adams bashers, put the dislike aside for a minute and think about what he has brought to the university. Yes there is the nightmare that the basketball program has become. And I firmly plant that one on his head. But the move to put Damon Evans in charge has been a boon. What Evans has done is amazing, and should not be dismissed. Adams is also responsible for the Donnan dismissal and the Richt hire. For everyone that boos Adams, think about where the football program might be without Richt.
No, Adams does not always act in ways we like. Frequently he comes off as arrogant, aloof and removed. However, I have never met the man. But I can say he has done a lot for my alma matter since I have graduated. And UGA is more than Adams. It’s more than Dooley, Evans, and Richt. Let’s move forward.

This just in. Marcus Howard just sacked Colt Brennan again.
Welcome back Chip, I’ll bet you realy missed all the drivel above. I like the fact that Adams is actually paying attention to the football program. I also hope he realizes what he has there as in the coach and what a positive thing the program can be for the university. I hate that he spoke out so soon after the LSU victory. Stole some of their thunder IMO. Don’t much about the plan but it at least gets people talking about it. Machan shut up because the system worked for him last year.
Okay Altadawg, I agree you shouldn’t boo anything associated with your university on a grand stage such as the Sugar Bowl, but Nagin? You can’t give that guy props for anything.

Thanks for the comments GradyGrad96. Let’s move forward indeed but let’s also get the facts straight. I’m also an alum of UGA. For that reason, I feel it necessary to correct a few of the things that you said. #1, Vince Dooley laid the ground work for the hiring of Damon Evans. That was one of the few requests that Dooley made that was actually honored by Pres Adams. #2, if you really believe that it was Adams that was responsible for the firing of Donnan, than you severely underestimate the power of the university board and prominent members of that board that make those decisions. I do however agree with you that the one and only outstanding achievement that Adams has been able to hang his hat on is the hiring of coach Richt. Also, I agree that the university of Georgia is much more than those individuals often mentioned in the media.

While I love the respect that Georgia has earned, it makes me really nervous. Expectations come with baggage and it will be a real challenge to keep these guys from believing the hype and not remaining focused on the task. The last time we were held in such high regard in the pre-season, the team fell flat and never came close to being a factor in the big picture. Even so, I am counting the days until kickoff. It is going to be a long off-season!

Oh, they booed Nagin too. Tough room! It seems like the folks that he let down the most most prabably were not in that stadium that night, so I wonder what stake those fans thought they had in it at all. Cute to pretend to make some “statement” I suppose.
Flightdawg, and if you believe that Adams was responsible for forcing Dooley to eventually honor his own announced retirement, you are underestimating the “suggestions” that had been growing from that same board, and quite openly vocal alumn too, long before Adams was the paid hatchetman.

As was evidenced by this past season its pretty darn hard to go undefeated. Therefore, if the dawgs are ranked no 1 going into next season they’re that much better for it. Easier to get back if you lose early.
Not because Mike Adams initiated it THIS YEAR, but I am in favor of a playoff, otherwise we will continue to have a “beauty contest” with the “usual suspects” hanging around for the vote to push them to the top. I think a 16 team, 4 game playoff. Probably not in the cards but a playoff is the ONLY way to avoid regional and national bias.
I do agree with Mike Slive that Adams timing for “HIS IDEA” WAS SUSPECT. The time was for LSU and the SEC, not for Adams to grandstand. Frankly, I don’t think Adams even cares about a playoff. He is simply trying to re-write his Georgia Legacy since as of now he is only known as the man who would not extend Coach Dooleys contract. There is nothing Adams can do to ever FEEL THE LOVE FROM THIS ALUMNI. I love our institution and what we do there, but Mr. Adams has no ties and no love for anything in Athens.

Playoffs? Nah! Keep it like it is. UGA doesn’t need a playoff to be no.1 So many folks act like we should be winning a natl champ. yearly. I wish it were possible, but for those of you who think its an easy to moderate task, put on some pads and go “hit” with some highschoolers, then multiply it x 100.
Mikey Adam$: Like another blogger said earlier, “in person he is so nice and engaging”. He is a politician, he is supposed to be that way! ADAM$ and DaMon Evans are two of the most SCRIPTED public figures I’ve ever been exposed to. I realize that Vince Dooley hired DaMon, but since Coach is no longer there DaMon is chasing every stick that ADAM$ throws. Mutt and Jeff need to GO! Hire Dooley as UGA president and Richt as AD and Head Ball Coach.
Coach Felton is doing a fine job. I’m not a Basketball fan, but I am a Georgia fan so I’d like to see them win. As with most athletic programs you will have a few bad apples. Bad apples have to go. Coach Felton knows what he is doing. He’ll get his winning % eventually.

2,3,4 Michael Adams is a disgrace to my alma mater. I tell those sweet little girls from UGA that call me begging for money for the school the same thing. Not getting a dime from me as long as he is there. The only way he could be in better graces with UGA people is if he was the FORMER president. He is only interested in himself and his so called “legacy.” Not the students, athletes or alumni. As to the basketball team, this is HIS mess. ADAMS hired his buddy the coach who got us in trouble, ADAMS allowed the loser player into our school that caused the trouble. At least Coach Felton is weeding those people out. He hasn’t done a remarkable job here, but I believe, whole heartedly, that no one else could have done better with the mess he inherited. And thank goodness he had the guts to get rid of the riff raff he did. And they were the best players. Do you know how easy it is to go to class every day???????? Glad they are gone. He hasn’t won much, hasn’t gotten any big recruits, other than the ones he just let go,lol. But who could have??? it’s just gonna take a long time, I think maybe 5 more years. So what do you do, fire him? Allow someone else to come in and build off his foundation??? That would be stupid. He’s a great coach and more importantly he represents my school the way I want it represented, with class. That’s a lot more than I can say for our so called president.

Chip, I really don’t like the idea of Dawgs being preseason #1. Everyone we play will give that little extra to try and knock off the #1 team.
As far as a playoff system, well, I’ve never really cared that much for Michale Adams but I will support him on this one. I am so tired of this BCS crap that cannot and will not match the right teams to decide a true champion. If the fans don’t jump on this and support it then we don’t want to hear any more crying about the BCS. Dr. Adams has opened the door, now we better at least put on foot in.

OK, that was mostly a very good blog discussion. BuLLdawg got a little caught up in himself there for a while but otherwise everybody kept the discussion to the main topic presented and the childish insults were kept to a minimum.
Couple of things:
BuLLdawg, your continuous accusations of AJC bias are so far off base and paranoid at this point they really don’t bear rebuttal. What your missing, in my opinion, we cover UGA so intensely — and you can’t forget about all the good, positive press the school gets from us as well — that it provokes polarizing opinions. That said we’re never going to be a rah-rah bastion of boosterism for the school or the athletics program. We’re a journalistic entity and we’re first and foremost interested in providing checks and balances.
On that note, about the exact same percentage of Tech readers believe we’re biased toward UGA, so I’d say we’re getting it about right.
Yes, BuLLdawg, my opinion as a paid observer of the other night’s proceedings are that neither team is very good in basketball this year. Georgia was seven points better at home. End of story.

Vincent J. Dooley was NOT a good Athletics Director ?
Vince was given complete control of the search for head football coach. He alone decided to go after Coach Richt. And, December 20, 2000 at 2 a.m. Coach Richt called and woke up Vince and Barbara and accepted the job because of Vince.
41 years at UGA, Vince has both an undergraduate and master’s degree from Auburn University, donated $3.1 million dollars to the building of the Chemistry Building and the Russell Library.
Every single year, UGA’s Athletics Department average ranking was in the Top 6 Best Athletics Departments in the nation. Vince Dooley’s coaches he hired at UGA won 21 National Championships. We produced the most NCAA Top XII Awards for Excellence in Academics for our student-athletes.
When Michael F. Adam$ wanted to hire Pepperdine Coach Jim Harrick, Vince was interviewed by the AJ-C and he said that the past at UCLA was too shady and therefore Vince would not support that decision to hire Harrick. Adam$ did hire him anyway.
When Michael F. Adam$ wanted to bring in Tony Cole, Vince was interviewed by the AJ-C and said he did NOT want him to come in. Vince refused the overtures by Harrick that he allow Cole to come in. Vince said that the Admissions Department was in charge of that and that he would not intervene for Cole. Adam$ gave Cole a Presidential Admit - one of 21 questionable souls allowed in by Adam$ going around the Admissions Department.
Sanford Stadium became what it is today, the college football world’s Top 5 Stadium by all measures, because of Vince Dooley as A.D.
Vince was named Athletics’ Director of the Year 5 times and given the Lifetime Award.

3 of Vince Dooley’s Final 6 years as AD, UGA led the SEC in The Directors’ Cup as the Top Athletic Department in the # 1 Conference for the 22 Sports we compete in.
Vince neither wanted Jim Harrick and had narrowed the list down to the Coach at Notre Dame now, nor would go around the State Nepotism Law for Jimmy Harrick , Jr., nor would go around the Admissions Department at UGA for Tony Elasco Cole, when we already had a great Point Guard and didn’t even need him.
Michael F. Adam$ gave Tony Cole the Presidential Admit, insisted that Vince hire Jim Harrick because they both worked at Pepperdine together where Adam$ was NOT the president of the 1,700 students there, and it was Adam$ who went around the Admissions Department for Tony Cole.

Michael F. Adam$ did NOT hire Damon Evans. Vincent J. Dooley DEMANDED that Damon Evans be named his successor. Vince had recruited Damon Evans to play football at UGA. Vince named Damon Evans his own successor, only not on the timeframe it ended up being.

.1.Hewitt losing record to UGA.
.2.Felton Winning record over Georgia Tech.
.3.Georgia Tech does NOT have winning record this season and now has only out-of-conference UConn left with NO HOPE of NOTHING.
.4.Georgia 9-4, 8-4 Division 1 needs to go 5-12 the rest of the way all against SEC, including 1 SEC Tournament Game before NIT or NCAA bids go out.
.5.Georgia is clearly better than Georgia Tech, as much as that pains the AJ-C to put in your rag and set-off the 29,000 Tech alumni in your readership to the quarter of a million UGA alumni wondering why you can’t bring yourself to say : UGA is better than Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball this season.
Go ahead Chip Towers, you can say it. We all know. UGA is better than Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball AGAIN this season.
CHIP TOWERS’ RESPONSE
” Yes, BuLLdawg, my opinion as a paid observer of the other night’s proceedings are that neither team is very good in basketball this year. Georgia was seven points better at home. End of story. “
This is a perfect example of the bias of the AJ-C AGAINST UGA to refuse to admit that UGA has been beating Georgia Tech at Men’s Basketball the entire tenure of Dennis Felton and Paul Hewitt.

Sir,
.1. I was the one who pointed out that UGA did not get an opportunity to get to play LSU in the SEC or National Championsip Game and that BOTH had to be corrected. That we don’t know who would have won, but that I thought UGA would have won both over LSU.
.2. You are barking up the wrong tree to go after a Playoff for Our Bowl Subdivision, when we all should get behind PLUS ONE +1 This would have allowed UGA to play LSU when The SEC disregards that the whole entire purpose of The SEC Championship Game is to BENEFIT the Top-Ranked SEC teams in the BCS Rankings NOT No. 12 AP vols but No. 2 AP UGA.
.3. If you cannot give credit for what LSU accomplished on the field, you don’t understand college football. They get the NOD.

Here is a rendition of the game for you Chip Towers from a newspaper Northeast of you and I point out that another paper South of you referrred to the win as Georgia was more impressive than Georgia Tech.
Quote: “The win gives Georgia a basketball-football sweep and the state championship in both sports as well as momentum heading into conference season. Georgia (9-4) opens SEC play on Saturday with a road trip to Mississippi State, which beat LSU 61-39 on Wednesday night. Neither team found much range or rhythm on offense. But Georgia’s defense forced Georgia Tech into rushed shots and poor passing. The Yellow Jackets only hit 7 of 20 from the 3-point line and 19 of 35 from the free throw line.”
“Not only was it a big game, a motivation going into the SEC, but it’s bragging rights,” Georgia guard Billy Humphrey said. “You’ve got the two best teams in the state going head-to-head in a packed crowd on our home court. We’ve got to come out victorious. There’s no question. There’s no doubt about it.”
“It’s a very big deal to beat our in-state rival, especially so many of us are from Georgia,” Bulldogs guard Troy Brewer said. “It felt good.”
End Quote
Of course, if you are a Tech athletic supporter, you say neither team ACCOMPLISHED a bloody thing and fail to report that Paul Hewitt has a Losing Record to UGA on BOTH courts and that Dennis Felton has a Winning Record against Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball.

It is not subterfuge that LSU beat 5 Teams ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 15 teams in America.
Nor that UGA beat 3 of the Final AP Poll Top 19 for the 2nd best performance on the field of play in America either.
An 8-team playoff format cannot be achieved from where we are. It is the 8-team playoff which has too much opposition and too many counterproposals to it.
Try, if you will please sir, to think about Plus One +1 and how much better that is that what we have ?
And, think of how much far easier that is and what precidence it establishes by passing it.

Chip, I agree—both Tech’s and Georgia’s roundball teams are bad. The jury is still out on Felton as a coach. He hasn’t been able to keep enough people in school for us to see how good he is. If this sort of thing keeps going on, though, there is a problem.
Georgia’s schedule next season is so difficult that any ranking in the top 5 will likely be enough to get the team into the MNC game (the ultimate goal) IF the team wins all of its games. Georgia will be better than every team it faces next season on the basis of pure talent, but injuries and intangibles (turnovers, etc.) can swing close games either way. The Dawgs should beat Central Michigan, Ga Southern, Vandy and rebuilding Kentucky just by showing up. Tech lost 17 starters and has a new coach, so I think we win that game more easily than usual this season. Arizona State on the road will be a challenge in terms of focus, but they gave up a ton of sacks this season, and they lose 4 offensive line starters. I think we win that one. South Carolina is a revenge game, and they lose a good bit on offense. W to the Dawgs there. Tennessee lost Ainge and, more importantly, Cutcliffe. In addition, it’s a big-time revenge game, at home, after a bye week. W to the Dawgs there,as well. Alabama doesn’t match up with us talent-wise, so we win that one. LSU in Baton Rouge will be tough, but they lose the core of their defense, their DC, Matt Flynn and Joey Hester. I see a Dawg win there. Florida is the second-toughest game, primarily because of their offense, which I think will be even better with Emmanuel Moody. However, their defense is abysmal, and DE Derrick Harvey just turned pro. Our offense and defense will be better next season. Edge to the Dawgs, but not by much (but this game is likely a must-win to get to the SECCG). The Auburn game worries me the most. Troy’s offense gave us fits, and that’s what we’ll be seeing on the Plains this season. I think we have them in the talent department, but a turnover here and there…
Anyway, the formula’s pretty simple: win all of your games, win the SEC and play for the national title.
Oh, and about Adams? Jeez, what bad timing. I agree that a playoff system is in order, but he just made us sound like a bunch of whiners. Plus, I think it’s all self-serving—he’s trying to capitalize on the BCS ill will to woo Georgia alumni into his camp. Perhaps if I thought it was more genuine, I’d be supportive. But I don’t.

Chip Towers, I like you. I have always liked you. I treat you with great respect as a fellow UGA alumni and family - each of us - who also are decorated UGA alumni.
But when you watch a game, 1 team is more impressive. 1 is less impressive. Failure to report so is what rancors you so that I have to point out that every other newspaper did report it this way by direct comparison and reported that UGA has Won a Major Sports Sweep over Georgia Tech again.
I did not say that either team is great - far from it. I could care less about either team, just that UGA beat Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball.
You work in an environment where you are surrounded by bias against UGA and for Georgia Tech trying to put the best possible light on Tech and opposite for UGA.
If UGA had lost, Tech is the better program.
If Tech lost, neither accomplished a thing.
I don’t think that your grades were nearly as good as mine at UGA, or you would have been at the Foy Fine Arts Building as Top 5% of Graduating Class, and I could read your name there beside mine on The Program.
You are the most on our side reporter the AJ-C has.
Georgia BEAT Tech in Men’s Basketball for the Major Sports Sweep again this season, were the more impressive of the 2, Tech is hopelessly out of it while all UGA has to do (which they will not I said) is to go 5-12 in SEC play to make any Postseason Tournament - which is a lot more than can be said Georgia Tech, and Georgia has its Coach with a Winning Record over Tech and Tech has a Coach with a Losing Record to UGA on both courts.

Another documented bias of the AJ-C for Tech and against UGA :
The Georgia Institute of Technology has been on Major Infractions Database (for the 2nd time in history) and NCAA PROBATION for cheating scandal in 4 sports including Losing 6 Scholarships in FOOTBALL for the 2007-2008 season (79 instead of 85) yet NOT ONCE did the AJ-C discuss this, while if UGA had been on NCAA Probation in Football this 2007-2208 Season with a Loss of 6 Football Scholarships, every single parenthetical clause, would have said it again and again and again and again and again.
Instead, biased FOR Florida AJ-C Sportswriter ALSO reports of the game WON by UGA for the Major Sports Sweep leaving Paul Hewitt with a LOSING RECORD on BOTH courts while Dennis Felton achieves a Winning Record against his main Rival in Men’s Basketball that UGA are the “academics.” How can this be** ?

Tony Barnhart reports - as the Final AP Poll approaches - that Kansas who ended up No. 7 in the both the AP and Coaches’ Polls, should be the No. 1 National Champion as he sees it.
I replied that Kansas would NOT jump West Virginia, Missouri, Southern California nor Georgia - all of whom have far more impressive bowl game Wins than Kansas let alone Ohio State.
Georgia, obviously perched for the No. 2 AP Poll Final Ranking for the 1st time in over 25 years that highly ranked to end a season for UGA I pointed out, Tony should have discussed as obviously being No. 2 in the Final AP Poll instead.
The AJ-C is biased against UGA and for Tech, as you continue to fail to cease on the opportunities even when I come in here and point them out to you.
Someone has to carry the Banner for UGA in your rag of fellow biased against UGA and for Tech reporters.
When UGA scored BETTER for our football players again this season in the APR than Georgia Tech did, the AJ-C reported both are pitiful.
Excuse me, Georgia scored better on the APR in football than did Georgia Tech.
Try reporting it.
I know you guys know that. I see your personal hard-headed response to such obvious Banner carrying opportunities that neither is any good. Get with The Program. We are always hardest on those we Love the Most : Don’t take it personally. It is NOT personal.
Just say, oh, ok. I missed that. Or, you are right. Or, I thought of it and passed over it not wanting to come across as a Homer.
When Rivals have a dominating academic advantage in football and athletic advantage in football, offer it up.
When a program is on Probation and Lost 6 Football Scholarships – mention it once.
You don’t want to discuss any of the specifics, yet every AJ-C reporter ducks the opportunities presented to just 1 time say something nice about UGA.
And, when your coddled Tech Nats are inferior across the board including academics of their student-athletes, try following up on it – even if you didn’t think of it 1st, but me.
Quit coddling Tech. They LOST and were the least impressive and provided bragging rights and advantage in coaching as well.

Is GA Tech doing any better?? What about the wildcats of KY?? Just give Felton a few more years. He came here under tough circumstances.

Everybody should understand that 2008 is THE YEAR OF THE DAWG. Georgia should go into the 2008 football season ranked number one in the nation and easily run the table to the 2008 BCS Championship. I don’t know why the remainder of the SEC does not just save us some time and surrender. No point in getting people hurt playing such a juggernaut.

Altamaha:
I appreciate your thoughts and sensible comments. You’re a voice of reason in this forum that is often overrun with idiots.
Although I’m not particularly a fan of Adams, I agree that the state of the University and especially the football program are as good as it’s ever been.
Many here will disagree with me, but I personally think that as long as Vince Dooley was the AD, the football program was going to be mediocre. He wasn’t interested in bringing UGA back to national prominence. He was interested in resting on his National Championship laurels forever. I attended UGA in the late 1980’s (Jan Kemp, anyone?) and the teams were awful.
After retiring from coaching, AD Dooley sent a grossly inexperienced Ray Goff to the slaughterhouse - effectively ruining Goff’s good reputation among the Bulldog faithful while keeping his own intact (he did, after all win a NC back in 1980). Donnan didn’t fare much better, but Quincy Carter (and 3 straight losses to Tech) ruined JD, and Adams fired him - against Dooley’s wishes, and ushered in the CMR era.
Why did Dooley want to keep Donnan around? Because as long as Donnan was there, Dooley would still be looked upon as “The Great One” by the Bulldog Nation. Dooley’s greatness as a coach started in 1980 and ended in 1983. Everything else was mediocrity with a good season thrown in here and there.
CMR, on the other hand, is not going to be satisfied with anything less than an exceptional football program and if he stays long enough will eclipse ALL of Dooley’s coaching accomplishments.
Those of us who are thrilled with Coach Mark Richt need to be thanking Adams, because if Dooley had his way, there would be no Mark Richt at UGA and we’d still have a lousy football program.

Coach Richt has a Winning Record against Tommy Tuberville. Coach Richt has beat Tommy Tuberville 4 of the last 6 games, head-to-head. Coach Richt has been higher ranked in the Final AP Polls than Tommy Tuberville 5 of the 7 seasons of The Coach Richt Era. And, Coach Richt is 72-19 to 66-23 for Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville since Coach Richt came into The SEC. This is all because Coach Richt has Quarterbacks and Tommy Tuberville does not and has not by direct comparison thereto.

How can those who view the BCS as a ’ Beauty Contest ’ still believe the AP poll is any different than the same and similar..? The human factor is evident in both. If a playoff is to become reality and fair, it will need to be based on Sagarin type Ratings, not the human touch…

Hey Geaux Tigers, We own you… and you’ll realize that next year.
Okay, which whipping do you want to take next year… 45-17 UGA win or 34-14 UGA win? I know the National Championship LSU team was good but, aren’t they losing alot of starters?
Final AP poll top 2 1. LSU 2. UGA Those two teams were thought to be the top 2 in the nation at the end but the two did not get to play each other so we may never really know who was really the top team in the nation this year (since LSU is losing alot of starters).

the problem with adams is that he does not care about the students at uga. everything adams does is an attempt to either make more money for the university or to make it look better to the public. yes he has the football program at a high level but if you are a freshmen or sophomore you only get 3-4 of the tickets to the home games. not to mention that a large block of those student seats are in the upper deck.

I like Coach Felton. He is a man of principal, and that is exactly what UGA Basketball needed 5 years ago. Do any of you people remember Jim Herrick. He set UGA Basketball back 10 years. Coach Felton had to have open campus try outs just to field enough players to play. Please come out and support the UGA Basketball team. If we do, I think he can be our Tubby Smith, but he’ll stay.

As far as UGA basketball is concerned, I have little hope for a sustained level of excellence. It simply is not possible with the facilities and lack of support for the program.
Hugh Durham went to the final four and eventually fizzled out. Tubby Smith used the program as a springboard to the big time. Jim Harrick did damage that poor Dennis Felton is still cleaning up. That is the kind of program that we are. It is possible to win and then leave for a job with a big time basketball school, but nobody looks at the UGA job and says ” That is where I want to be for the rest of my career.”
I have been to many games at the coliseum, and I can tell you that it is not a great place to watch a game. It was designed for rodeos 40 years ago! Unless the school makes a big commitment to change the facilities and the culture, it simply is going to be a program that rises to the periphery every 10 years or so.

Leslie, thanks, but there are plenty of level headed folks in here, who just happen to post sparingly. Unfortunetely some of the more vocals can be plain idiots. Some times you just have to wonder what kinda of lives some of these folks have.
Not sure I really agree that Dooley was purposely keeping UGA athletics in the middle to look better. I do think everyone’s time does come to move on. For the record I was NOT one of those suggesting that Dooley was way past his time some many years ago, in fact, disagreed. However news of his retirement didnt seem like the end of the world, and All I can say about the final year is, Both Adams AND Dooley could have, should have, handled it better.

Chip; I have been meaning to ask you… what is your take on Brian Vangorder being the defensive coordinator at South Carolina? I cannot for the life of me understand how he ended up in that position. Is there a story about his relationship with Mark Richt that we do not know? One has to wonder after the strange vagabond life he has chosen after leaving UGA, only to position himself to go against the man who made him a coordinator. He is a terrific coach, but is he in any better position than he would be if he had stayed in Athens? There is more to this story than any of us knows.

Uncle Dave: There’s not animosity between CMR and BVG. In fact they’re good friends. It’s just that BVG wanted badly to be a head coach and made moves — first J-ville Jaguars, then Georgia Southern — he thought would help him realize that. But the GSU thing blew up, the Falcons job represented a parachute, then that ripped, too, with Petrino’s bolt. BVG was available and Spurrier alertly offered him a job… . You must understand, this is still a business for most of these guys, not unlike changing bank jobs if you can make more money or get another position at one than the other… . But BVG’s son Molloy remains a walkon at Georgia under Richt and I saw BVG come by practice a few times this past season. They’re fine in terms of relationship… . Not the other part: BVG is a super-good defensive coordinator and his presence at SC will help them. That said, CWM has similar philosophy and I think UGA is better positioned recruiting wise, etc., for the immediate future… . Should be fun to watch!

Altamaha:
I was turned off by Vince Dooley after the way Erk Russell was treated, post NC. I think Erk’s intensity and popularity took some of the spotlight away from Vince, and I honestly believe Dooley saw him as a threat, hence Erk’s speedy departure to Statesboro.
When I arrived at UGA in 1985, the football program was imploding in the wake of the Jan Kemp scandal, James Jackson and Wayne Johnson were the QBs of 3 and 4-loss teams, and players were getting in trouble all the time. I remember seeing two players roaming around the Golden Pantry at 5-points and walking out with full pockets. The clerk told me that players were shoplifting his store at least twice a week, but was told not to report them if he wanted to keep his job. A frat buddy of mine who was a bouncer at O’Malleys, got held down by some guys and beat up by Lars Tate after they were asked to leave. He pressed charges against Tate but very little came of it. Meanwhile, primadonna Dooley was busy trying to run for Senate instead of keeping his players in line.
Russell was the popular choice to succeed Dooley as Head Coach, yet he was never officially considered for the job by the AD (Dooley) - another sore point with me. Instead, we got Goff, then Donnan.
I agree that Dooley’s “forced” departure from the AD position could have been handled better by both Adams and Dooley. According to some here, Dooley was the one who finally persuaded CMR to come aboard - only after Adams fired Donnan. Either way, Dooley has always managed to keep his halo glowing. Adams just gets booed. And yes, booing the president of the University because of some perceived slight against Vince Dooley is classless and rude.
When I was a student, you had to get your tickets in a lottery outside Stegman. Am I to understand that students are no longer able to purchase student tickets to ALL home games and often get banished to upper level? I agree with NASCARfan, who blames this on Adams - the students, who have the most spirit and make the most noise, should be down in the lower levels.
All that said, I can hardly wait for next season to start. GO DAWGS!

In the Eleven (11) Consecutive Seasons and Counting that The Georgia Bulldogs have been Ranked in the Final AP Poll, UGA is 1 win behind Texas and Ohio State’s 108 Wins with 107 Wins for UGA. However, Texas in 1999 went 4-7 on the field (5-6 after Colorado forfeit playing ineligible player) leaving Texas unranked and Ohio State went 6-6 and unranked obviously in 1997.**
This leaves ONLY The Georgia Bulldogs who have been ranked every season for Eleven (11) Seasons Consecutively in the Final AP Poll.
During the BCS Sugar Bowl Blow-out on the Bayou by The Bulldogs, FOX put up a graphics which stated that of The SEC teams, UGA has been ranked the longest consecutively in the Final AP Polls.
This is incorrect, as UGA has been the most consistent performer in The United States of America for the Longest in the Final AP Poll as the only Football Program in ANY CONFERENCE to be in fact ranked in the Final AP Poll 11 Consecutive Seasons.
And, it was true BEFORE the broadcast, as well.
Only Texas and Ohio State have Won 1 more football game at 108 Wins than UGA’s 107 Wins since UGA became the Most Consistently Final AP Poll Top 25 Ranked Football Program the last 11 Seasons now, but both of them have had a season in which they were NOT RANKED in these last 11 seasons in a row now that UGA has been Ranked in the Final AP Poll.

Paul Oliver’s and Tra Battle’s San Diego Chargers’ Secondary is so good that neither hit the field as they intercepted Peyton Manning 8 times this season to BEAT him BOTH times.
Danny Ware’s and Fred Gibson’s New York Giants beat Tony Romo, who ends his season with another miscue 2 years in a row now. Danny Ware did get to get in and play against New England 12/29. Fred Gibson did not play again yesterday either.
Green Bay Packers, who beat Seattle, is the 1 NFL team which lists no former Bulldogs on it.
Richard Seymour’s and Ben Watson’s New England Patriots continue their Quest in History at Undefeated Season as **Ben Watson caught 2 TD Catches and 3-Time Pro-Bowl Richard Seymour also moves on in the NFL Playoffs.
I guess Richard Seymour and Ben Watson will have to Carry the Banner for The Bulldogs in these NFL Playoffs this season.
The Bulldogs have until tomorrow to declare for The Draft, but there are none expected to do so.
I thought that Richard Seymour should have been the Super Bowl MVP before twice now. No College has been had as many players Named Super Bowl MVP than Georgia’s Three (3) : (1) **Hines Ward MVP (2) Terrell Davis MVP (3) Jake Scott MVP and in fact (4) Charley Trippi MVP of NFL Championship Game makes 4 for UGA as the most players all-time named MVP of the Championship Game. In the history of the NFL, no college has in fact had more players Named The MVP Player of the NFL Championship Game than Georgia’s 4 Players 3 of whom as Super Bowl MVPs.

Let’s get this straight who hired Coach Richt. It was Vincent J. Dooley, not Michael F. Adam$. Ray Goff ruined his own image among Bulldogs’ alumni with his football coaching. Jim Donnan started this run of now 11 Consecutive Seasons of being ranked in the Final AP Poll which no other football program has accomplished with The University of Georgia. 40-19 is not bad for Jim Donnan, no matter how you try to characterize it. *Jim Donnan’s 8-Wins or More in a Season Four (4) Consecutive Seasons set a University of Georgia Record at the time. We also Won ALL Four (4) Bowl Games in a Row. Jim Donnan’s Top 10 Ranking in 1997, followed by No. 14 in 1998, followed by No. 16 in 1999, and No. 17 in 2000 ALSO SET A University of Georgia ALL-TIME Record for Consecutive Seasons ranked that highly. Jim Donnan’s Record speaks for itself at Oklahoma where as O.C. he won the NC and at Marshall where he was also NC and compiled a coaching record that *including UGA is one of the most impressive in broadcasting today.
As a ESPN and many other station’s College Football Expert Commentator, Jim Donnan ALONE has carried The University of Georgia BANNER. He speaks very favorably of us, and except for the cheating at Georgia Tech really did set the stage for UGA’s current success to find but 3 schools with more in the NFL and to find NO school with more Consecutive Final AP Poll Top Rankings and find but 4 schools with more attendance.

I do not think overnight that you are going to come in here and trash Jim Donnan’s efforts to make UGA Bulldogs look good on the National Stage today as he has done every day since the secret deal was made by Michael F. Adam$ on a golf-course to give away MILLIONS on my donated monies to the Football Program which Michael F. Adam$ has NO RIGHT to give away AT ALL.
If Vince Dooley wanted to give him another year to see if he could beat the academic cheating Georgia Tech yellow jackets who played as their best 11 players, 11 who would not have been eligible anywhere at any college, that history shall report that Jim Donnan did pretty well by God.
Now, when Michael F. Adam$ did FIRE Jim Donnan and pay him my millions not his University funds but our football donated funds Vincent J. Dooley 100 percent on his own hand-selected and talked Coach Richt into taking this gig to replace Jim Donnan.
You can take all your misrepresentations and left out facts, and lies and stick it for all I care. Bulldogs know what the story is of Vincent J. Dooley and his 41 years of service to The University of Georgia.

There are a quarter of a million of us UGA alumni in the readership of this newspaper, the AJ-C reports. And, of all of us, you alone are the worst possible spokesperson of what the facts are.

It ranks right up there with 21 convicted criminals Michael F. Adam$ has gone around the Admissions Department to Award his Presidential Admit such as Tony Elasco Cole whom Vince said he would not.
As for coaching hires, I think even you would admit that Jim Harrick Senior was the dead-last worst hire by anyone in America in the history of hiring any coach. Yet, again, Vince said his past at UCLA was too questionable for Vince to consider him as a coach and had already narrowed the list down to other coaches, leaving Jim Harrick Senior out.

Michael F. Adam$’ Playoff Proposal is a JOKE and doomed to failure, and it shows about as much knowledge of this game as you do to think he can get 8 teams to play in a year and half by deducting 111 other teams’ 13th game they make millions on each of them.
Making the Rose bowl a January 1 quarterfinal and the Peach Bowl the NC site is so stupid.
According to you, all quarter of a million of the rest of us are supposed to bow down to Michael F. Adam$ because of what the HOPE SCHOLARSHIP alone has done for UGA.
And, disregard everything that you cannot even begin to discuss such as the Buckhead condo, the $2.1 million dollars he gave away that wasn’t his to give away, his disbanding he said of the football fund which by way owns The UGA LOGO among other things, and then there is the men’s basketball team who all had a 3.5 grade-point-average or better who stood outside his home and asked for a meeting only to have Adam$ call the Police on them.
The Police made Adam$ come out and speak to them.
Here is what they asked Adam$ :
(1) Why did you hire Harrick, Sr. ?
(2) Why did you give Harrick, Jr. the professor job and say at the Press Conference just now : “How was I supposed to know what was going on in the classroom ? I have too many professors in too many classrooms to know that a professor had no right to even be a professor.”
(3) Why did you give Tony Elasco Cole a Presidential Admit - one of 21 questionable such by you alone Adam$ - when we already had a great point guard and did not even need him ?
Leslie22h if you wanted to come in here and discuss these points you continue to make - please do.

We also made him return to us, money for a birthday party for his absent son from his home at his home for $20,000 turned in as an “expense” to the University of Georgia too.

What a joke Adams is. Where was he in 2004 regarding a playoff after Auburn went undefeated??? To quote him, “The BCS is working, and we don’t need a playoff system”. But now, after his 2 loss team gets locked out? Now he wants to champion a playoff. He has no credibility at all.

UGA is getting most of the # 1 love from the local guys and their fans.Sure there are several other national people that think UGA COULD be the #1 team next year, and perhaps that could vault them to #1 in the final poll much like FSU had when Saint Bobby won his first NC. Remember that was as much “gotta let FSU win before Bobby retires” as anything. I think UGA’s “TIME” could be this year. Look at the past NC’s, they have hovered around the top then they finally get that confirmation.

Because JL, much to your dismay, the problem with the 2004 season is that the 2 teams in front of Auburn also went undefeated and just so happened to be ranked #1 and #2 all season long. The Dawgs were #4 behind Ohio State at #3. #1 and #2 lost and as logic would have it in any past season, #3 and #4 would have moved up. But that’s beside the point. And trust me, my entire family are Auburn fans beside me. I defected to UGA. I pull for Auburn whenever they aren’t playing UGA and I for one thought they were jobbed in 2004. But in retrospect, its hard to argue when the 2 teams in front of them were ranked higher all year long.
But here’s the bottom line. Could it be strictly political in Adams’ mind, surely. But here’s the kicker…Michael Adams was just appointed the top Excecutive of the NCAA for the next 2 years. Lets see how much pull he’ll have and how serious he was about a playoff system. Because the fans are overwhelmingly for a better system than the BCS, and what better system to have teams actually play it out on the gridiron. Wow, what a concept!

BUILD A NEW BASKETBALL ARENA!!!!!!! IT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF QUICKLY!!!!!
Football will always be number one, however, basketball does not have to be such a distant two.
I would love to bring my family to a few games a year. There are many UGA alumni like me that live close enough to attend a few games.

BuLLdawg:
In 1992, after publishing his book, Erk Russell was the keynote speaker at a convention I attended. He was a very engaging speaker and spoke fondly of his tenure at UGA. During the Q&A, someone asked him why he didn’t accept the Head Coach position at UGA. With a stern look he replied, “I was never offered that job.” The way it came out sounded as though he was a little resentful. He wisely stopped short of saying that he would have considered the job had it been offered to him.
None of my previous posts were intended to come across as an overwhelming endorsement of Michael Adams and I do not wish to challenge the points you make regarding him. Dooley may have lured CMR to Athens, but the need for a coach was facilitated by Adams’ firing of Donnan, against Dooley’s wishes.
It is my opinion that the University, in spite of Adams’ shortcomings, is in great shape. So is the football program. It is also my opinion that AD Dooley was content with a 3-4 loss per season football team, when alumni and fans want nothing less than NCs.

Chip, glad to see the clamp down on the mindless trash talking.
I believe Michael Adams’ interests are far more self-involved than altruistic. However, on many fronts, what is best for UGA is best for Adams. I do think it a bit tactless to hold his self-coronation as savior of college football the day after the NCG and I hope that most LSU fans were too busy sleeping it off to notice for a couple days. And as much as I would have loved to see an LSU-UGA match up, I can’t, as long as I still have the mental capacity to remember the UT game, argue that UGA should have got any more than they did.
As for preseason #1 hype, I think it’s a nice recognition of where the program is and definitely something for Richt and the Dawg nation to be proud of. But when Sept 1 comes around it will mean little other than reminding every opponent we face that they should be ready…I ask, blessing or curse with what the schedule is already? I guess, if the 2008 season resembles 2007, it may be good to help UGA bubble to the top in early December.
Happy New Year Chip, Dawg Nation

A portion of the LA Times article referenced earlier. Why can’t the AJC write an honest piece of news without having to check with UGA first for aproval?
You didn’t need a crystal ball to predict this. The ink wasn’t even dry on newspaper accounts of LSU’s national title before a rival SEC president started calling for a playoff.
LSU Coach Les Miles sat for a Tuesday news conference surrounded by hardware — the reflection off the BCS crystal football was almost blinding.
“It’s nice that there’s no indecision,” Miles said. “There’s one national champion.”
An off-season fistfight has already spilled through saloon doors.
Here’s the way we figure it went down:
Georgia was mad it didn’t get the chance to play for the national title and set out to lob water balloons on LSU’s victory parade. Georgia finished second in the AP poll and third in the coaches’ index, and that’s just too close not to call a news conference.
Remember, Georgia, without losing, got jumped in the final BCS standings by LSU.
The voters decided, in the end, to send the SEC champion to the title game instead of the school that didn’t win the SEC East.
So, Michael Adams, president of Georgia, decides this is a good time to feed the Atlanta Journal-Constitution his idea for an eight-team playoff.
Adams had opposed a playoff up until, just a guess here, one minute after the final BCS standings were released last month.
Adams wants the NCAA to take over control of the BCS. OK, and after that he can take over Pluto.
He wants the four major bowls to host first-round games. Assuming the Rose Bowl is still a major, that won’t happen.
The Adams plan might have merit if it wasn’t so ill-timed and polluted with self-serving interests.
Again, what are we missing here?
Didn’t Adams get the memo?
A day before, new coordinator Swofford stood before the Football Writers Assn. of America and said a playoff was a “non-starter.”
Gordon Gee, the president of Ohio State, who once famously uttered that the current system would have to be wrestled from “my cold, dead hands,” was quoted in USA Today on Monday saying he even opposes the modified Plus One proposal some commissioners are trying to float.
Gee said he was unwilling to plod beyond the BCS, calling it “the Maginot Line” for the postseason.
But that didn’t stop Adams — the same president who hired Jim Harrick and found a way to alienate legendary Georgia football coach Vince Dooley — from barging into LSU’s news cycle.
Slive, the SEC commissioner, tried to be diplomatic.
“The 1st Amendment is alive and well in the SEC,” Slive said.
Slive also said, “I’m disappointed because this is LSU’s day.”
Miles took his own subtle shot at Georgia.
“A year ago we played in the Sugar Bowl and we played a nationally ranked team [Notre Dame] and fared pretty well,” Miles said. “And we didn’t say anything, because you know why? Because it’s about this game; it’s about the championship game. And I would think there’s a time for proposals and there’s a time for adjusting the schedule. But it might not be today.”
And officials wonder why people are fed up with the commissioners, presidents and athletic directors who run college football?
The sport can’t even break huddle on a season with its story straight.
One minute, reasonable men are trying to build modified playoff consensus as they incrementally nudge the sport into the future.
“It’s like a big battleship,” Swofford said of the BCS. “You don’t turn it around quickly.”
The next minute, an SEC president breaks through the door with an ax.
We’re guessing Adams’ playoff idea is going to end up where all of them do, on the BCS scrap heap.
Last year, Florida President J. Bernard Machen’s proposal for an NFL-style playoff was gunned down by SEC presidents, one them named Adams.
This year’s playoff plan figures to walk the plank at spring meetings in Miami.
Yet, this is the kind of petty infighting that prevents college football from getting anywhere.

College football has become a Farm System for the NFL. There are some real SA’s around but a look at LSU’s athletes show a huge population taking Interdisciplinary Studies as Major. This is a Jock Degree. These kids are in school to play football and entertain us and taking classes (the joke that they are) is just something they have to do to play football. The days of real students playing football for a University are gone. I am for the NFL setting up their own farm system and letting Students have the Universities back. How about you, Mr. Adams?

Now that the Football season is over it’s time for Georgia fans to get behind and support Georgia’s Men & Women’s Basketball teams and that means with butts in the stands. If Georgia Basketball is ever going to compete with Florida, Tennessee, and other top SEC Basketball programs I believe the mindset of the Georgia fans needs to change. Basketball is extremely important to the University and Athletic Department and it’s time to start winning.
I understand the difficulties the Mens Basketball Program has encountered because of the debacle under Jim Harrick & Son but it’s time to turn it around and start competing for SEC Championships and at least qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
Regarding the state of the Women’s Basketball Program for years Georgia’s Women’s team qualify for the NCAA which is a good thing but maybe I am being selfish but no SEC or NCAA Championships to show for it and then to lose to Auburn by thirty last Sunday the question is “Is it time for a change from Andy Landers”?

Leslie, bringing me back with the talk of O’Malleys. I still talk abou “OOOOOOOOOOOmallis” anytime I’m in Athens. Graduated in 85’ so just missed ya. (By the way, where is the modern day Omalley, or Papa Joes for those of us still young at heart, but not 20 anymore)
As far as Dooley, he just coached in a different era. There werent many friday nights that you couldnt find a bunch of his boys down at Odysey late. I have a few stories about folks like Sadowski, Tardits, and Goldbeg. No way our boys get away with half the stuff that was commonplace back then. I don’t know if thats a poor reflection on Dooley. I think its just the way all athletics program were long ago.
I guess a few folks still think its 1985 and the athletic director can tell the President how its going to be. Fred Davidson was never “hated”, because he didnt do anything. I can’t rememebr any building going up, or national honors either.

Altamaha:
I haven’t thought of Richard Tardits in years! We both went to a friend’s wedding down in Miami around the time he was playing for New England and I got acquainted with him. Our group went to a private beach club down there and like a good Frenchman, Richard wore his Speedo. Needless to say, I made a joke at his expense (and lived to tell the tale). I thought he was a super guy.
After the Jan Kemp thing in ‘86, several faculty members had bumper stickers on their cars that read “The Fred is Dead!” (political suicide). One of my fraternity brothers was a UGA cheerleader and he made a small fortune selling “Kemp Sucks” t-shirts all over town. He may have actually gotten in a little trouble over it.

My fraternity brothers made a fair bit of cash selling the “Let the Dawgs eat, and Florida cheat” tee shirts back in the mid 80’s.
BTW le’Sack bought me a pitcher of PBR once, so yea, he was cool.
The deal with Kemp is: Her allegations weren’t really that bad. I mean come on! Athletes getting extra help in some remedial classes….really? But Fred firing her over raising the issue may go down as one of the biggest blunder in college presidential history. Yea, restricting folks from parking on the lawn……..oh my! Try dragging your University into court to get a world class bloody nose and made UGA a national icon for football “preferential treatment” at the time. But he let the AD do whatever he wanted, so nobody called him silly names. (as Adams) On a side note, I got invited to sit in Fred’s box one game and I guarantee Dr. Adams would have to be more fun to watch a football game with. Ironically, his (Fred) lack of control ended up hurting Coach Dooley’s program, by embarrasing him to the point that he over-reacted and hurt UGA recruiting for years. I do however believe that Coach handled that whole deal about as well as anyone could and only because of his class reputation was the damage to the school image not worse.

General, I think Vols got a OC with broad perspective of offense. Could the hire be CPF replacement when retirement is put in stone? The big question, can he recruit?

I mentioned to my brother that CPF was interviewing for his OC as if he were selecting his eventual replacement. On that matter, time will tell. I’m OK with the choice. Clawson will find a way to get the ball into the hands of playmakers….In reality, we may be pretty dang decent next year, contrary to the ordinary…There will be the kinks to work out, but I have this gut feeling during the transition, some of Cut’s implementations will flow into Clawson’s…The D will be just fine, while the O will go through some tweaking…LB Mayo leaving early for the NFL, WITH his degree…
On recruiting…When Garner came to roost at UGA ( his wife made him do it ), we lost a chunk. But with Drayton coming aboard from Florida, we’ll ratchet things up a notch on recruiting. I feel good about the future and I feel good about 2008…

You feel good about 2008 ? Drayton coming aboard you will ratchet things up on recruiting ? You’re OK with choice of Clawson because he will get the ball in the hands of the playmakers ? In reality, the vols may be pretty dang decent next year ? The D will be just fine for the vols ? Amazing stuff.
For a team who has not been ranked ahead of Coach Richt in Six (6) Consecutive Seasons’ Final AP Polls.
Pardon me, but how is 6 consecutive seasons “selective memory” ? I mean, am I only selecting certain years of the last 6 years in a row ? No, the answer is.
Every year, it is the same ole hype from vols’ fans, then when the season is yet again, the vols are double-digits behind UGA in the Final AP Poll again. That is if the vols are ranked at all.

Why is that the vols every year, 6 seasons in a row and counting now, are always ranked worse in the Final AP Poll for that season than UGA yet again ?
Is it the “selective memory” of every voter in America ?
Is it every voter’s “selective memory” every single solitary year for the last entire six (6) seasons ?

Let’s study the last 6 seasons in a Row, shall we ? Then, you can share with someone what “selective memory” doesn’t include every single solitary season of the last 6 consecutively ? Sound fun ?

19th. Read 1 of your posts and one would think that I and the AP Poll voters have “selective memory.” How is your selective memory of the 6 most recent seasons and how the vols ended up worse ranked than UGA all 6 and are 52-25 to UGA 64-15.
Or, is your selective memory such that you will neatly duck this question too ?
Obvious as it is.

You know Leslie22h if I came in here and said that Michael F. Adam$ is being mistreated by everyone everywhere he turns and that it is classless and rude of everyone everywhere to continue to do that to the guy who did not hire Harrick, did not misappropriate UGA funds and was not forced to return the monies in public, and did not offer a 1-year extension to the Athletics Director of the Year in the SEC 3 of his last 6 seasons - and, instead said Vince Dooley was the one - not who has made the greatest impact on UGA in the 223-year history of my University - but, the one who did all these things to UGA…
Then, I don’t think I would be coming in here and saying that Vince’s stinks to high heaven, but that Adam$’ does.

I am outraged by the NFL-type demonstrations that Coach Richt not only permitted but encouraged his players to engage in this past season. Coach Donnan never permitted such behavior, nor did the Georgia gentleman Pat Dye at Auburn. Richt never did so until this past season. Unless refs repeatedly flag the Georgia sideline for such insulting behavior this sort of thing is liable to catch on as a recruiting tool all over the conference and watching SEC games will become about as uninteresting as watching the NFL or NBA.

If you want, Selective History for 500 dollars, please…Let us spill back to the beginning of Fulmer’s reign at UT, 12-4 ( give or take a win here, a loss there )against UGA and A NC trophy too boot….Let us now count CMR’s NC’s…okay, moving on, the Beauty Contest of the AP polling…It’s so mid 20th century, BuLLdawg…SEE SAGARIN for the future of what polling will be about…and 2 out of the last 2 is 100% head to head…UT leads series all time…We both stand at 12 apeice in SEC Football Championships, right..? I’m no Spurious fan, but didn’t the evil genius and CPF’s Volunteers mess up the Dawgs party plans in 2007..? I’ve never doubted the reality of UGA’s potential under Richt, picked ‘em to finish 1st in the SEC East in 2007 ( OOOPPPPS ) but I do wonder what fire he’ll eventually find his feet in with the NCAA… We could go on and on, but it’s really pointless. History is a wonderful teacher, Professor BuLLdawg, it just depends on how one wants to sway it…Enjoy your hour out on the yard today, but bundle up…It’s chilly…

The Clawson family had a property rights issue in Virginia territory back in 1749. The losers to the ordeal loaded up their hay wagons and moved to Beverly, CA…and changed the spelling of the family name to Clausen..Through the breeding process that goes with life, the West Coast Clausens developed spiked hair and the ability to chunk rocks at cougars and squirrels, propelling them to become football QB’s…The Virginia Clawsons became the thinkers and prospered beyond belief in the art of tactical warfare on the battlefields of Manassas in the 1800’s…Taking a que from tactical side of the brain, developed their talents in the area of football playcalling and X’s and O’s…Wouldn’t it be ironic if UT and Notre Dame square off within the next 3 years..?
