UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Party time is over for Dogs, Warriors

Greetings from the Crescent City. It’s an absolutely beautiful day here. About 55 degrees and bright and sunny without a cloud in a baby blue sky.

The city was slow to stir today, with many of the visitors out late last night celebrating the arrival of 2008. I spent my New Years Eve at the House of Blues where I had the honor ringing it in with legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy at the House of Blues. I don’t know how many blues enthusiast we have out there but, for me, seeing the 68-year-old Guy ripping it up like he was half that age did my heart good. Awesome show, one of the best I’ve ever seen.

But all the entertainment and all the practices and all the pregame talk is over now. Now it’s time for Georgia and Hawaii to tee it up in the Superdome tonight. The New Orleans Times-Picayune ran a list of predictions from media members across the country. All but two picked the Dogs and most of them had it as not even being close. Pierce Huff of the Times-Picayune picked the Warriors 41-38 in overtime and Sean Meriner of Thepalestra.com took Hawaii 35-31. The rest generally had Georgia by double digits.

I think a big key for the Bulldogs is going to be how they do early. They need to come out and establish dominance. The longer Hawaii hangs around and believes the harder it will become.

Tony Barnhart and I will each be putting up blogs throughout the day so be sure to stay tuned to ajc.com heading into the game and throughout. Let me hear what you guys are thinking in terms of a score tonight and I’ll be checking in from the Superdome.

The dawgs might establish dominance early and that would be well and all, but if they don’t I think they will be fine. I don’t think its something they need. I think the dawgs running game will dominate the clock and make their defense more tired throughout the game, so I would expect the dogs to do better half way into the second quarter or later.

but thats just my two cents.

GO DAWGS!!

Has anybody heard anything about Hawaii’s quarterback? I’ve been trying to find something to read about him for the past month but couldn’t find anything. Also, does anybody know if Hawaii has any special pregame rituals?

Hello all “dawg” fans. Other than what has already been said, I think GA MUST do 2 things to win this game. 1. Pressure CB as much as possible the entire game, similar as to what we did to Tebow. And the other important thing is to control the line of scrimmage and keep them off the field - this will at least minimize what CB does best. That’s all from me. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL GA AND HA FANS AND GO DAWGS GO…

Two hours to go and I’m pumped! On a side note, the Illini aint looking to good in the Rose Bowl. They got the traditional matchup that they wanted, but they sure didn’t get a good game. It would be cool to see how we would’ve matched up with the Trojans. Go Dawgs, Sic’em…woof, woof, woof!

At the Louisiana Superdome now. Dogs fans in black and Hawaii’s fans have followed through on the concept of the whiteout. Should make for a nice contrast on your TV screens.

Hawaii actually does a slim down version of the Ha’Ka. It’s called the Ha’a. The Ha’Ka was banned by the NCAA because of a throat slashing move.

Hawaii did the Ha’a dance before the Sugarbowl started. Georgia got to do the Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha… dance after the Sugarbowl ended!!!

I have been hearing some BS about the Ohio State Thugs having so many great football players in the freakin’ NFL. Go ahead, name one please ? I am waiting. There is not a great Ohio State football player in the NFL. This is supposedly their answer as to their abject lack of team speed on the Ohio State team this year. So, I looked it up. I studied every football recruit signed by Ohio State the last 4 years. Would you believe that there is not 1 single solitary Ohio State football player recruited in the last 4 years who is in fact faster than 4.4 in the 40-yard dash ? Oh, that was your impression about Ohio State and then their lying rumor mill started this crap about how many great Ohio State football players there are in the NFL ? So, go ahead ? Name them ?

I’m waiting. Ohio State does NOT have great football players in the NFL and Ohio State does NOT have one single solitary recruit the last 4 consecutive signing classes who is faster than 4.4 in the 40-yard dash.

Name me one football player who is faster than 4.4 in the 40-yard dash on the entire Ohio State Football roster ? According to Scout.com, there is NOT 1.

And, there ain’t no great Ohio State football players in the damn NFL this year either. Jeez Louise, what a bunch of liars.

By ............................................BuLLdawg

January 5, 2008 5:05 AM | Link to this

There is no one on the Ohio State entire football roster who is faster than even a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, but hey when Ohio State Thugs are picked on for not having the team speed, they tell us Ohio State has all these great NFL football players this year ? Go ahead Ohio State Thugs, who in the hell has Ohio State got who is so bloody great in the NFL ? Still waiting. And, Ohio State is picked on for playing in fact the Number 48 Strength of Schedule Officially as Ranked by The NCAA this season and for having beat 1 Top 25 ranked team in the Final BCS Top 25 this year, a 4-loss Illinois who was just embarrassed for the entire nation to witness 17-49 in their bowl game which should have pitted Georgia instead of Illinois as the nation damn well knows, instead of Hawaii.

I am so impressed Ohio State Thugs with your oh so great and awesome fantastic Ohio State NFL football players. And, with your schedule. And, with your win over just only Illinois all damn season for you to play and not Georgia or Southern Cal instead.

Oh, and did I mention that there is NOT 1 single solitary Ohio State football player on its entire roster who is faster than 4.4 even in the 40-yard dash according to Scout.com ?

Duh.

Thomas Brown, our Star Tailback who started the last game for example and won the Georgia Tech game for us the game before Hawaii is 4.35 in the 40-yard dash. Georgia signed Vance Cuff with 4.35 speed in the 40-yard dash last year for our secondary. AJ Bryant who did the end-around in the Hawaii game, is 4.30 in the 40-yard dash. Our wide receiver Mikey Henderson is 4.35 in the 40-yard dash too and he also is having a great career at Georgia including punt returns and is a Star Football Player for UGA this season and in his career here too. Look, Ohio State does NOT have team speed, does NOT have great players in the NFL, and does NOT have 1 single solitary player on its roster faster than 4.4 according to Scout.com. But, I forget, you know so much more than all these sources.

So, go ahead, tell us. Who in the hell does Ohio State have who is so damn great in the NFL ?

Waiting…

Georgia, by the way, is going to be Number 2 in the Final AP Poll.

Terrence Moore, sir, excuse me but Georgia is Number 2 in the Final AP Poll. We do NOT deserve to have a chance to play Southern Cal who has 2 losses or LSU who has 2 losses or Ohio State who Monday has 2 losses ?

Your logic is so full of BS.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but I had a great time in NOLA. Everyone was super-friendly to me. Our hotel was evenly split between Georgia supporters and Warrior fans. We rode the elevators together everyday. Each side had positive things to say about each others team. After the game, Georgia fans did NOT rub it in. They were very gracious and respectful to us. Georgia has won me as a fan. We were between by a great team. There is no shame in that. Georgia deserves to be No.1 now! But hey even if you aren’t number one this year you probably will be for the next two years since the team is so young!!
