UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Should Dogs stick with Munson in ‘08?

By now I’m certain word has reverberated from New Orleans to Atlanta and back and forth throughout the Bulldog Nation that Larry Munson is not going to call the Sugar Bowl after all. Too bad. This would have been No. 6 for the legendary voice of the Georgia Bulldogs.

In our conversation on the subject a couple of weeks ago Larry told me how excited he was about going back to New Orleans and how much he was looking forward to the game, which he anticipated to be a wild one. It was as optimistic as I’ve heard Larry in a while.

Team and radio station officials who made statements about Larry’s decision to pull out were careful to say that “nothing medical” had come up, only that Larry had a “change of heart.” But I think all of us who know Larry and have followed him closely over the years know that Larry would be there if he felt like he could. He is 85 years old, after all, and suffers from arthritis and stenosis of the spine and that can be very difficult for people half Larry’s age.

As he just told me a few minutes ago, “Yeah, it’s a little bit of a surprise. I was all set to go and have been for some time. But it’s obvious there still are some health issues and one of them showed up the other day pretty big. So I decided I better hold off. In the final analysis that’s what the doctors wanted, too.”

The obvious follow to this, and I alluded to it in my initial news report, is how much longer Larry will continue to be the voice of the Bulldogs. Larry told me he’d like to do the home-games-only thing that he did this past season again next year but he said he wasn’t sure if Damon Evans and the power-that-be would still want him to.

So let’s hear from you, the most fervent of the Bulldogs’ followers. Is that something you’d like to see Larry do, continue calling Georgia home games? Should the Dogs stick with Munson as long as Munson wants to do it? Or is there any part of you that thinks they should move on to the next chapter in their broadcast history?

And if and when Georgia does move on, did you like what you heard from Scott Howard enough to know that he’s who you’d like to see follow Munson? If not Howard, then whom?

Thanks. Next blog will be from New Orleans. Aloha!

Let Larry call the home games as long as he is able. He has earned it. Scoot Howard did an excellent job and should be given the job when Larry retires. Scott learned alot from Larry and is as loyal to Georgia as it gets.

Larry should be the one to make the call when he’s done: if anyone has earned that right it’s him.

Scott does a great job, but he is no Munson. I am 44 years old and never heard anyone but Munson until this year. It was very strange and its going to be a sad day when he hangs it up.

I was looking forward to hearing Munson for the Sugar Bowl game.

I’d really like to hear Larry call at least one more. Im 35 years old and dont know anything but “Get the picture” on Saturdays. Used to be able to turn down the sound on the TV and listen, but satelite television has ruined that for me. Larry is as much a part of Bulldog lore to me as the great number Herschel Walker the endzone stalker, but he has, for lack of a better term, lost a step or two. I love Larry, but maybe it’s time to pass the torch.

Just don’t let Michael Adams make the decision!!! Remember the last time he became involved with a UGA Legend!!??

By DawgHare

December 28, 2007 5:12 PM | Link to this

Are you serious?!! Of course he should be allowed to stay as long as he likes. This isn’t like Bobby Bowden or Joe Pa staying on too long. Munson calling home games won’t affect recruiting or how the coaches do their jobs. As long as he wants to call games let him. He showed by pulling out of the Sugar Bowl broadcast he will know when to hang it up.

At some point in time we’ll have to give Larry up. But it’s his decision.

Larry has nothing more to do to enhance his legend. He and Grizzard are imbedded in DAWG football lore. We’ll be talking of him for years to come.

If he calls another game, its a bonus. If not, then to quote another legend “Thanks for the memories, Larry.”

IMHO..larry is the best of all time,i remember thelenius as a kid too. larry should call the games as long as he wants. he’s as much of a tradition at UGA as the chapel bell, the tracks, uga, glory, glory etc… there will never be another like him. GOD BLESS you LARRY MUNSON, i wish you nothing but the best health & happiness. you deserve it for your loyality & all the pleasure you’ve brought us over the years. GO DAWGS!! GATA!!!

PS. what ever happened to phil schafer? loved his calls of DAWG basketball, he would be a great replacement.

I hope that Larry can call at least one more game, but unfortunately I’m afraid that by next season his health may prevent that. Whatever happens, no one should try to stop him if he is able. I like Scott Howard and Eric Zeier, but there seems to be something missing, maybe it’s just that without Larry, something will always be missing. I would like to see Hondo move from spotting and pregame to a more active role in the broadcast when Larry does retire. I wish the best to Larry, am saddened to know of his declining health, and will make sure to be extra pessimistic in New Orleans in his honor! That usually helps us win.

Go Dawgs!

Larry says he wants to continue but it’s up to Damon Evans and Cox Broadcasting. We all know that Damon is Mike Adams “pawn”. This thing could get real political real quick. Hope not but those are the realities of this business. Larry should be the one to say when he goes. “GET THE PICTURE MR. ADAMS?”

DawgHare said it best. This should never be turned into a controversy and thank goodness for a great backup like Scott Howard. Larry Munson has more than earned the right to go out on his own terms. I was really looking forward to the Sugar Bowl because I had a feeling it would be his last. Hopefully he will be able to come back in 2008, but at his age the odds are against him. If we have heard the last of Munson, it was our privilege for all of these years. Scott and Eric do an excellent job, but it’s impossible to replace the “legendary voice of the Georgia Bulldogs, Larry Munson”.

Shiv-dawg knows the score. Wes Durham is already in the works for the Dawgs when Larry retires. As we all know, Wes has been calling games for the minor league acc tech yellow jackets. He is tired of calling games in an inferior league, for a losing team. He doesn’t sound exciting…because he has nothing to get excited about. Larry decides when Larry retires.

Period.

And “PAT” (which could stand for “point after touchdown,” a bit of a misnomer for a Tech fan), you’re an idiot.

One national title in 115 years? It’s all a matter of how you count them. The Dawgs choose to count only consensus national titles (we have two of those, in 1942 and 1980, not one). The Jacklegs—uhh, Jackets—choose to count every cotton-pickin’ title awarded by every poll out there at the time. If we chose the “Tech method,” Georgia would have had additional national titles in 1927, 1946 and 1968. That would be five by the “Tech method.”

The most important statistic you need to remember is 59-36-5. That’s the Dawgs’ head-to-head record against the Jackettes. You can spew out all sorts of “lies, damn lies and statistics” about national titles, etc, but that’s a cold, hard fact right there.

Kinda stings, doesn’t it? It’ll be kinda fun to see the Tech losing streak run up into the double digits. Think it’ll get to twenty?

I don’t care if they have to put Larry in a wheelchair to get him up to the Sanford press box - let him keep calling the whatchamacallit out of the home games until he decides it is time to hang up the microphone for good. By akddawg

December 28, 2007 8:27 PM | Link to this

I may be crucified for saying this, but here goes.

Ed stated “Larry has reached the broadcasting status of Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden: untouchable”

Paterno and Bowden have both become old relics that harkin back to days when FSU and Penn St. where relavent in college football. Both should have retired a few years ago.

I have listened to Munson call UGA games for over 40 years. The last couple of years - especially this one have not been the same Munson.

Perhaps it is time that Munson should step aside with some dignity and turn the mic over to someone younger.

By Joseph

December 28, 2007 8:39 PM | Link to this

I think that Munson has had a great legacy, but he should hang it up after this year or next year. Many people moving into metro Atlanta think that he cannot call the game right, but he is still one of the best.

I think that after he retires, he should still come for Homecoming each year, and help call that game. That would make many people happy to hear him again.

I hate to see low class remarks made by either Tech or Georgia fans. They are a disgrace to whichever they fall on and they make the individuals who make them look very stupid. I am a Tech fan and have been all my life. If Marc Richt had been the coach when I came along, it would probably have been very different. I simply could not stand Vince Dooley and Bobby Dobb and the Jackets were an easy choice for me. I just wanted to say that, even if I am and always will be a Tech fan, Larry Munson is a credit to college football and is the greatest announcer in it’s long history. No one else even comes close, as far as I am concerned. I hope Larry will be allowed to call the Dawg games as long and as often as he is capable. You dawgs also have another “greatest” item among college football teams. The greatest action football photograph ever was when the nasty white dog was trying to bite the “war damn-eagle”, as another hall of fame Dawg called them, on the sideline. How in the world did he know?

Are lives are better thanks to the wonderful memories larry has given us over the years. We love larry because he is a homer. He is like us. He is beyond legendary status. With that said Scott Howard has stepped into a no win situation and some how come out on top. He has been better than good this year…How do you take over for a legend?! Somehow Scott has done it. DO YOU PEOPLE realize he has been working for 15 plus years for THIS CHANCE. I used to think “oh god, who is going to be the poor sucker who has to follow larry”! Well, Scott Howard did it. He is a dawg fan, a larry fan… and his passion comes through in his broadcast..He has already had two classic calls in his first year.

Scott Howard has more than paid his dues. He has worked for 15 or more years with the thought of maybe someday being The Voice. A job, I guess, he and others really wanted, but at the sametime did not want. HOW do you replace Larry. Not just a Georgia legend but a national college football legend. It’s time to start a new phase in UGA sports history. Howard has done a great job doing a job that probably would scare the pants off of most people. In fact, he has already had a couple classic calls. Like the changing of the collar with UGA, Larry should start the first game next year, and after “Get the Picture” he turns it over to scott… All the time playing this over the P.A. system! Wow, I just thought of that. Great idea…. Probably not a dry eye in the house.

Hey, “Pat,” intelligent retort there. I’m stung. Really. Probably won’t be able to sleep tonight because of the pain. How many other “dog-licking” witticisms have you got stored up in that otherwise empty cranium of yours?

Jeez, if this were sixth grade, I might really be upset.

No,not really.

If the paleolithic national title count is all you’ve got, it ain’t much. Tech won its last undisputed national title…in 1917, when John Heisman was coach. Ninety years ago. In 1928, Tech shared the title with USC. Eighty years ago. In 1952, Michigan State was national champion in 5 polls and Tech was named national champion in one poll, the now-defunct INS. Even in 1990, Colorado was named national champion in two polls and Tech in one (UPI). By your standards, using the total national title count as the measuring stick, the best college football programs are Yale (with 19 national titles) and Princeton (with 14). Yale’s last title was in 1927; Princeton’s was in 1911. Relevant? I think not.

Your Jackets have one split football national title in the modern era (i.e. post-WW II). Georgia has one consensus football national title in the modern era. As I mentioned earlier, Georgia has at least a share in 4 other national titles by the “Tech method” of counting anything and everything as a championship. The discussion about all of these other “titles” makes for interesting Blog conversation, but is not really relevant in the global scheme of things, as there was no uniformity to how “titles” in the various ancient history polls were determined. Given that most of the people on this planet were not alive prior to WWII, your discussion on this subject doesn’t hold water. Things that happened nearly a century ago just don’t have a lot of relevance to today’s football, except in the minds of people who can think of nothing else to say.

It all goes back to that head-to-head record. Chew on that for a moment.

BTW, how many NCAA titles does Tech have in other sports?

Give up?

One. The NCAA womens’ tennis title last year.

Georgia has 30 NCAA champions in the non-football arenas, in sports as diverse as mens’ baseball, men’s golf (twice), womens’ golf, equestrian (twice), gymnastics (eight times), womens’ swimming and diving (four times), mens’ tennis (seven times), and, yes, womens’ tennis (five times) to go with 125 SEC championships. The Jackets aren’t even in the same league (both literally and figuratively). Yet another substantiation of Tech’s athletic inadequacy for you to gnaw on.

Find something better to do with your time. You won’t win any battles on this blog that are based on actual data or real logic. I’ll call you out on that crap every time.

Oh, and “lane tucker,” your opinion means nothing. You’re not a Georgia fan. Get off the Blog. A lack of respect for Larry Munson simply means you don’t appreciate the finer nuances of radio journalism. Larry is not just about the X’s and O’s. He’s an artist, a painter who uses words in unique ways as a means of expression. He’s truly one of a kind and, more importantly to us, he’s a Georgia fan. He bleeds red and black, and says the sort of things on the air that we’re all thinking. Ever wonder why fans of opposing teams use Larry’s calls on their highlight videos? It’s because he brings an emotion and a passion to the game that most other announcers cannot grasp. And just because you don’t get it doesn’t mean that your opinion on the subject is important, or even marginally relevant. It’s not.

I’ve got mixed emotions on this one.

On one hand, Munson is an icon with respect to UGA football and should be able to stick around as long as he wishes and leave on his own terms.

On the other hand, I realize that his age and health are catching up with him. I would prefer my memories of Larry to be those of him in his prime instead of an old man who cannot let go and stays in the game too long.

Larry, I think it is time. Announce your retirement and allow us to honor you in a manner commensurate with your many years of service and what you have meant to Ga football.

Munson has been one of the truly unique voices of college football for decades, but he needs to seriously think about retirement before someone is forced to make an unpleasant decision. If he’s physically able, he deserves one more season (or at least part of the season) as a farewell tour before he leaves things to a younger voice.

His deteriorating physical condition may make the decision for him. If not, let’s hope he has the good sense to know when it’s time to leave the booth before his increasing years prove too great a burden for his announcing skills to overcome.

Legends need to know when it’s over before someone reluctantly has to tell them.

I am a dawg fan born and raised in ga now living in alabama. I listen to talk radio here a lot most of the time it is paul finebaum, after the week of the auburn game there were several callers who for whatever reason could not watch the game they were out and about they all said they tuned in wsb out of atlanta and listened to larry munson call the game. everyone of them praised munson on how he calls a game describing every detail of the game and also the excitement still in his voice at 85 years old, as I was driving that afternoon and listening to the callers I was so proud to be a ga fan and proud to have had the pleasure of listening to larry for 35 years. This man deserves to stay as long as he feels he can do it. All of the old radio brodcasters are gone the ones who can describe a game like larry lets cherish and listen to him for as long as he wants after all he is the biggest fan at uga.

I wish Larry Munson the best wishes for a healthy 08 and if he wants to come back next year he deserves to! Someone asked if larry used to do vandy games and yes he did do vandy games and had a fishing and hunting show on tv in nashville. I miss listening to John Ward and and other great radio announcers. Best of luck and health to Larry and the bulldog nation!!

As much as I have enjoyed Larry for all these many years, it is now time to go on to Scott Howard and Eric Zeir. Larry no longer brings the excitement that he once did. Larry is a legend, but even legends need to be replaced. Another example of this is Bobby Bowden.

As a longtime Dog fan, and one who has hung on Larry’s every word forever, I cannot bear to think of a fall without him. And yes, he’s always been a so-so play caller. I remember listening to Kevin Butler’s 60 yarder to beat Clemson, and hearing Oh my God! Oh my God! dammit, did he make it or not? But I wouldn’t trade him for anybody. But hard reality and father time do have a way of catching up with us all… Wes Durham would be a fantastic choice to follow Larry’s legend, but I am sure most hard core Dog fans (and Jackette haters) would never accept the premise. Too bad. Scott Howard is good, and I’ll enjoy listening to him, but oh no, say it isn’t so…

And as much an Eric Zeier fan as I am, I do agree, Buck Belue would be a better choice

And Thank You for the respect Gator fans. We still hate Your team, but at least you seem to be decent folks.

Munson has been terrific for some 4 decades, but his day has past. For many years and games I would sit in Sanford Stadium and listen to the grustled voice describe vividly the setting, the crowd, the plays, etc. But over the course of the past years, he hasn’t kept up with the action, making mistake over mistake. This is sad, because he truly is a LIVING LEGEND! However, go enjoy your remaining days on a pond or lake somewhere and let the next generation take it from here. Scott Howard is good, but has anyone given any thought to Brad Nessler? Doesn’t he reside in Atlanta? Good Luck, Larry - Enjoy FULL Retirment!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the problems with this whole Country are: 1.This Guy is too old. He can’t cut it anymore.(Whoops, can’t say that, we will get sued.) 2.We can get someone better, although this Guy has been here 40 yrs.. 3.We are not obligated to be loyal. This is not a Fortune 500 Company, although as much money is involved. People are going to listem reguardless and ratings will never be hurt. Georgia can afford to be loyal and it will never cost them a dime. It makes no diffference. I’m sure some of the younger Fans don’t understand this loyality. I have been attending Georgia games on a regular basis since the 50’s, til I just could not afford to give the Donation & keep Season Tickets, so I watch on TV & listen to Munson. Yes, I am still having to work, at a not too great job. I was up the east coast this yr. on a Sat., working & it was great to listen to Munson on XM. I love Scott Howard, but if he doesn’t mind waiting on Larry, no one else should. Right or wrong, I was very loyal to Vice Dooley & feel he should have been able to choose his own time table. I like Damon Evans, but he would not have minded waited a couple of years either. I can’t say the same for Dr. Micheal Adams. I can tell you, when you are a shining star on the way up, you don’t worry about loyalty. When you are going down, you appreciate it.

For those who question Larry’s abilities, fame, and popularity, have you noticed recently how the TV networks will cut in to Munson’s play calling and give Larry the recognition he deserves.

“Legendary” only scratches the surface. Larry is a UGA, SEC, and national treasure in forwarding the excitement of college football. From “Property destroyed tonight” to “Sugar falling from the sky” to “Hobnail boot” Larry’s imagination has created a lot of delight. Larry Munson-One Hell of a DAWG.

Thanks Gator and UT fans for your tributes above.

He should be able to do whatever he wants as long as he can do the job. In reality, that position means much less than it did 15 20 years ago. Back then only one or two games were on TV. I grew up a dawg fan listening to him, not watching. But games are all on TV now so listening is pretty close to irrelevant and even when we want to turn radio on, with digital, there is a delay so that doesn’t work anymore. But he is a legend and keep him as long as he wants.

Chip,

I regret you started this particular blog. While there are those who support Munson and would leave it to him to determine when he retires as well as those who respectfully comment he should retire now, there are bloggers who insult this good man only because they hate UGA. I’m sure you knew this would happen.

Why would you create an opportunity for people who have nothing better to do than blog hatred about a man who is a legend near the end of his time with us?

Larry Munson should call the games for the Bulldogs as long he is able. Munson should decide when he is ready to retire. The athletic department personnel should not even discuss his possible retirement.

Damon has ALREADY said, its Larry’s call and he can call the games as long as he wants.

Scott brings his excitement and loyalty to the game just like he has for the basketball for years. Eric Zeir adds GREAT insight to the color commentary, and PULLLEASE dont let Buck Belue be on the sidelines or in the booth..I love his days at Georgia, but he is a BUTT!!

The sidelines when Loran is gone should go to Kevin Butler, and the Broadcast team when larry is gone should be Scott & Eric.

They should set Larry up in front of a big screen HDTV with a live feed and let him call the game from the comfort of his home. With Lauren sitting at the Sugar Bowl live, it would be almost as good, especially with the crowd noises coming in from Lauren’s mike. I’ll bet it would work.

Larry has earned the right to call the shots. Aging does not follow a schedule. Plateaus and even improvements can occur until the “man upstairs” makes the decision that our time is up. Larry may be feeling better next Fall or he may not, so he gets to decide next Fall whether he wants to or not.

Listen to what Larry is saying. Larry says that he still wants to do home games. Sure he does. Before that he said that medical results will keep him from attending the Sugar Bowl. Larry is like an old calvary horse kept past his days out of respect for his service. Everytime that trumpet sounds, his ears prick up and his blood starts pounding. He is ready for one more.

Sadly, I don’t think Damon Evans will determine Larry’s future. I think his medical condition will. Rest easy old friend, rest easy. You have given me a lifetime of memories, the good times and the bad. I hope you have the ablitiy to determine your own future. I am grateful to have attended Georgia in your prime. And I still enjoy your calls today.

Larry should stay as longs as he wants. As for his eventual replacement, I think we should follow Larry’s advice and have open auditions. Larry recognizes, as do I, that the days of having radio announcers like him are largely over. We don’t need any polished professional or an opinionated jerk or an old jock. What we need is somebody to communicate the emotion of the game. We need someone who brings that same passion as Larry does and ultimatetly we need a person who isn’t afraid to let you know that he hopes we kick the other guys butt.

As long as Larry can freaking wheeze he should be permitted to call any games he wants. I had lunch with Scott at Logan’s a few years back and I can say from experience that he’s a quality person, a nice dude. UGA and Athens radio have groomed him for this for quite some time, and he deserves it as a familiar voice people know. UGA is smart to let him be the voice of the Dogs (by the way he’s done bball forever anyway) for the next 40 years.

As long as Larry Munson can call one game, we need to keep the legend in the game. I have been listening to him since 1976, when I was a young 16 years old at the local grocery store in Hiawassee Ga. I still reflect on those days in the fall as a very good time. He made the difference for me and allowed me to see others in a different light. He brought out the good in people then and I am sure he does now as well.

nobody loves larry more than I do, but his ability to stay with the game as it flows back and forth has deteriorated. no, he shouldn’t be forced to step away from the game, but he should be encouraged to. he can’t pronounce names right, can’t process what’s going on in time to make a good call and can’t generally keep up well. Scott Howard is THE choice to replace him and did a very admirable job this year. nobody is going to take to larry’s replacement immediately. when larry took over, uga people really didn’t like him very much, and it took some time for them to adjust. same thing will happen here when larry steps away from the microphone. there are two people who definitely do not need to be near the microphone for play by play though…….jeff dantzler and hondo williamson. dantzler is a loaded cannon and too unpredictable and cliche driven. hondo is not a play by play guy, he’s a marketing coordinator for wsb. you wouldn’t trust a backhoe operator to operate on your broken spine, and you wouldn’t put hondo in the booth as a play by play or even a color guy. let eric grow into the job. these guys have to have time to develop chemistry.

I respect the season that the Warriors had in going 12-0 and it should be an exciting game. That being said, I think UGA wins this one and has it wrapped up early in the 4th.

Hawaii struggled against UW. UW may have been the best team that Hawaii faced this year, but they can’t be confused with an SEC quality opponent.

ANYTHING can happen, especially in a bowl game where both teams have had a month off. Hawaii has a great passing game, and will likely move the ball and score some points, but UGA just has too much to answer with in terms of athletes.

Maybe the question should be, “Can Larry Munson stick with the Bulldogs next season?” If there is a scenario where Mr. Munson is able to continue with the Dawgs, then is there any doubt that he should?? But everyone ages—even Munson—and sooner or later he will no longer have the capacity to do it. We will miss him. No one will ever be able to adequately take his place; they’ll have to create their own place in Georgia football lore, just like Mr. Munson did. We can take consolation in the memories. “Don’t be sad because it’s over. Be glad because it happened.” God bless Larry Munson.

Twenty-five, 20, 15, 10, 5. Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Well, I don’t believe it. 92 yards and Lindsay really got in a footrace, I broke my chair, I came right through a chair, a metal STEEL chair…Do you know what is gonna happen here tonight? And up at St. Simon’s, Jekyll Island, and all those places, where all those Dawg people have got those condominiums for four days…MAN, is there gonna be some property destroyed tonight!” - calling wide receiver Lindsay Scott’s 92-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Buck Belue against Florida in 1980. “Hunker down, you guys!…I know I’m asking a lot, but hunker down one more time!” - in a defensive series late in the game against Auburn in 1982, which clinched the SEC title for Georgia “My God Almighty, he ran right through two men! Herschel ran right over two men! They had him dead away inside the 9. Herschel Walker went 16 yards. He drove right over those orange shirts and is just driving and running with those big thighs. My God, a freshman!” - calling Herschel Walker’s first touchdown run against the Tennessee Volunteers in 1980. “Look at the Sugar falling out of the sky!” - at the end of the Auburn game in 1982. “So we’ll try to kick one a hundred thousand miles. We’re holding it on our own 49-and-a-half … gonna try to kick it sixty yards plus about a foot-and-a-half … and Butler kicked a long one … a long one … Oh my God! Oh my God! … The stadium is worse than bonkers! I can’t believe what he did! This is ungodly!” - calling Kevin Butler’s field goal in the final seconds to win over Clemson in 1984. “We just stepped on their face with a hob-nailed boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!” - calling Georgia’s last-second win over Tennessee in 2001 “Touchdown! Oh, God, a touchdown!” - calling David Greene’s touchdown pass to Michael Johnson as Georgia defeated Auburn in 2002, clinching the Bulldogs’ first-ever SEC Eastern Division championship “Who do we sue if we have a stroke?” - asked of co-commentator Scott Howard after Matthew Stafford’s game-winning drive and touchdown pass to Mohammed Massaquoi against Georgia Tech in 2006 “Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown, my God, a touchdown! Touchdown! Massaqoui!” - Matthew Stafford’s game-winning touchdown pass to Mohamed Massaquoi against Georgia Tech in 2006. I know this was a lot to post but I wanted true Dawg fans to know what you’re gonna miss when he stops doing play by play. Thanks Mr. Munson for a job well done.

Larry should continue as long as he can. Scott and Erick are doing a great job.
