UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Richt: ‘The most fun I’ve had coaching’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The general consensus on Georgia’s Sugar Bowl matchup with Hawaii is that it is a no-win situation for the Bulldogs. Win and they were supposed to win. Lose and — ohmigod — they’ve lost to a lowly WAC team.
I’ve just left Georgia’s bowl media day luncheon and press conference and, as you might expect, coach Mark Richt and his charges aren’t buying that notion.
“I don’t believe that,” Richt told reporters in the Stegeman Coliseum auditorium. “We have a lot to gain from this game. Our seniors could win their 40th game as a group in a four-year span. That’s pretty special and I know our seniors are excited about that possibility.
“And I think our underclassmen realize a victory here will set the stage for the future. The BCS, the way it is set up, it’s always important where you’re ranked at the in the preseason. You hate to say much about it but that’s the way it is. You might climb from not being ranked preseason to getting in the [BCS championship] game. But if you lose one along the way you’re probably not unless you were in the top 10 or something. I think the preseason rankings have an effect on where you might finish. So I think there’s a lot of incentive for our players from that standpoint.
“And everybody wants to be considered a champion. We weren’t able to be Southeastern Conference champions but we could be Sugar Bowl champions. Eleven wins in a season is a tremendous accomplishment. And the way we finishsed the second half of the year, we had so much fun and really enjoyed it, I hope the guys don’t want to let go of that at the end of the year.”
Richt also didn’t buy the notion that Hawaii will come in loose and without anything to lose.
“I think they have a lot to lose,” Richt said. “First of all an undefeated season. They’ve got to win this game to stay undefeated. That’s pretty special to go through a whole year without anybody beating you.”
Georgia’s players are taking that philosophy even a step further.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we go in as underdogs,” sophomore cornerback Asher Allen said. “They’re undefeated, not us.”
The Bulldogs will practice for the third time since the end of the season on Friday and again on Saturday. However, they will be without their graduating seniors.
There are 14 of them — 15 if you count former Bulldog Mitch Davis, who completed his degree 14 years after completing his eligibility. Here’s the list of Saturday’s graduates: Sean Bailey, Andy Bailey, Thomas Brown, A.J. Bryant, Brandon Coutu, Mitch Davis, Thomas Flowers, T.J. Gartrell, Chris Gaunder, Mikey Henderson, Marcus Howard, Jason Johnson, Justin Lyles, Drew Williams and Ben Wilson.
Brown, who completed his degree in 3.5 years after taking 21 hours this semester, said walking in graduation tomorrow is “more exciting than anything I’ve done through my entire life, including sports. I’m so excited I can’t hardly stand it and it’s not even here yet.”
Richt said Georgia won’t have two-a-day practices like it did in previous years before bowls but will hold long single practices instead. He said coaches have been on the road recruiting a lot but he has directed them to be breaking down Hawaii tape and data throughout and to be ready to start implementing the game plan today.
Richt also called this his most enjoyable season at Georgia. “It’s the most fun I’ve had coaching.”
That’s it in a nutshell. Other than that, Richt was heaping mountains of praise on Hawaii and its personnel and coaching. Carter Strickland will have more details on the press conference and today’s practice when he files a football report later today.

This has been a great year. We are extremely blessed to have a coach like Richt here in Georgia. With all of the mess going on in Atlanta and other parts of the sports world, it is nice to know we have the right guy looking after our program. Now lets pay him like it.

Let’s hope coach and the dawgs continue the winning streak against Hawaii and that after next year he can say after 21 consecutive wins that as for the last two seasons “It’s the most fun I’ve had coaching and it’s great to be national champions” If we’re gonna dream dawg fans, we might as well dream big.

The pre-bowl time reminds me of pre-season time when we worry that the players will get hurt or do something stupid and get suspended. Reading that 14 team members are graduating is great news. I wish Paul Oliver had managed to keep his grades up — both for himself and for the team (Hawaii seems like the game where we would need him most). I’m glad Coach Richt is enjoying himself — I have to think that UGA keep his salary competitve. Go Dawgs!

Great perspective about the bowl from Richt too. I hope the guys can keep up the intensity come Jan 1st. That will be a sign that Richt has turned the corner for good. Being able to come out on fire and prepared from opening whistle.

Congratulations are in order for the guys who are graduating especially Thomas Brown. To finish a degree in 3 1/2 years under any circumstances is impressive. For a football player, it is tremendous. He is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be.
I totally agree with Coach Richt, the Sugar Bowl is a jumping point for next season. Win or lose, we should be in the top 5 in the preseason polls. Hawaii does have a lot to lose as Richt said. The pressure of being a mid-major team in the BCS is tough and trying to stay undefeated just adds to it. I look for the Dawgs to cover and win 41-24. GO DAWGS!!!

If the players are truly into this game mentaly, then we will cream Hawaii. Write it down. As far as this whole “but hes making more than I, waaahhhhhhh” thing that the media is trying to stir up its just plain wrong. We pay our coach a lot of money. He knows this and is happy. There has got to be a stop to this inflated coache’s salary thing going around. Desperate schools are payin absurd amounts of money to hire in big name coaches so they can win NOW. It may help some, but theres a whole lot more to it than just that. More then likely it will not work and it could attract the wrong kind of coach if long term stability is what your looking for. Now if another school comes in and says to Richt we’ll pay you double what UGA is to come and coach at our school…well lets sit down with him and work something out. If its reasonable then do it. He is one of the best coaches we have ever had and thats out there. Theres more to a job then the bottom $’s. I get job offers all the time where I could make more money, but I want to be where I’m happy. I think the same goes for Richt. He makes a VERY comfortable living financialy. So then the question becomes, where are you most happy? We all know that UGA is the best place on earth.

I’ve been a lifelong Georgia fan,40 plus years, however I’m pretty sure the rest of the country has heard of Alabama with six national championships and Auburn just a couple of years ago that went 13-0,Tennessee has certainly been a national power, going back to Johhny Majors and Gen. We put so much emphasis on football we forget these young men attend class, study, and play football in hopes of the dream of becomming an NFL player; if not, they persue their course of study. Our seniors are fine young men and i thank them for their time and effort and wish them the best in their future. A man of class such as Mark Richt, along with his staff has taught them not only football but how to become the best they can be in whatever lifes challenges call for. Thanks to all of you for a super season! I will gladly pass on the spurriers, miles, petrinos and others of this day, who have less character than CMR has in his left pocket! As far as the rest, the sugar bowl will be a nice beginning to the 08 season and we will watch the new upperclassmen lead the dawgs to many victories over the coming season. Happy holidays to EVERYONE, be safe and take care. Dawgs Forever!

He may have had fun this year, but I lost complete respect for him as a man. How can I read all these posts by blind loyalists of how he is “a gentleman and class act”? Did you watch any of the games and observe the players behavior and the coaches behavior? I hate the gators as much as the next guy, but encouraging that classless behavior really is dissapointing. It did not stop with the Florida game, and penatly after penalty proved to me that he is developing an atmosphere where winning with class is forgoten and taunting and humilating your opponent rules the day.
I guess there are still some high school programs that teach the fundementals of football along with the fundementals of being a good, honorable man.
He proved to be a hypocrite.

Hope the Dawgs take the Sugar Bowl, but more importantly, hope the Dawgs have an opportunity to give Arkansas (and their new coach) a SEC ‘whuppin’ in 2008, and that will then give a good reason why the Akansas coach’s family won’t like Atlanta — just can’t wait!!!

Thanks to Coach Richt and his guys for a thrilling finish to what looked like was going to be a disappointing season. I’ve been a dawgs fan for the last 35 or so years and with the exception of Coach Dooley’s teams of the late 70’s and early 80’s, I’ve never enjoyed watching a Bulldog team more than I have since Richt became coach. He’s a warm and decent human being, a genuinely nice guy who also happens to be a damn fine coach. I predict we’ll be talking about Mark Richt in the same breath as Butts, Mehre and Dooley in the decades to come. He’s a class act! Also: I’m reminded of a few scant years ago when everyone wrung their hands over David Greene being gone and here’s this senior, D.J. Shockley, who had taken few game snaps and had a spotty performance record, and nearly everyone was ready to write off his senior year as a “rebuilding year” and what does he do? He helps lead us to an SEC Championship! I think his maturity and focus were a direct result of the efforts of Coach Richt and his staff. These Dawgs are a special bunch of guys, made all the more special by their coach and his staff. Thanks, Coach; I’m looking forward to next year!

He will be let go just like he was last time. He did nothing illegal it was already proven once. It’s just sad that Mercer students pay so much more money than UGA Pharm students and get such an inferior education. My wife (A UGA Pharm grad) told me during her national and state boards one Mercer student didn’t even know how to put together a syringe. Another didn’t realize you had to push air into the vial before you could extract the fluid. She also witnessed another student running out of the exam to throw up because of the pressure. This type of poor performance from other schools creates complaints about UGA’s pass rate. Maybe the other schools should take a look at what they teach or rather don’t teach.

Anyone who equates what Richt did this year to “lacking class” needs to put down the computer and go back to their tea party. C’mon, it’s football people! I never once saw a player go up to an opponent and taunt them, and if they did, they were disciplined by the coach. People equate having fun and beating peoples butts on the field with lacking in class. Anyone that questions Richts character obviously doesn’t know the man. This guy Rome has as much class as Jim Rome and is twice as dumb. I’m proud to have Richt as our coach and have been for a long time.

Rome, you need to quit worrying about what other people think about the program (if you are a UGA fan). Maybe you should take up another sport like ice dancing. Very little confrontation… oh wait, the kerrigan thing. Okay, maybe billiards or poker. That’s the ticket. For the last time - football is not a gentlemans game and I’m tired of people trying to make it out to be one. It’s why we have stupid 15 yard penalties for a guy jumping up in the air after knocking heads at full speed. Ludicrous! The league, fans and coaches want these guys to go out and put their bodies on the line every Saturday, or Thursday if your Tech, and act like perfect gentlemen after a big play or tackle. BS. People need to grow a set. End of story.

Rome, i think you have a warped outlook if you think what the team did in the fla game was bad sportsmanship. It in no way belittled florida. It was motivation, the 2 other unsportsman like conduct was due to a dance, or taunt, if you will. That shows lack of chatacter??? give me a break. Remember your youth, the time to “grow up” will come. This is college football where excitement is the name of the game, it pumped the team up, nothing wrong with that. Don’t be pompus, enjoy life. Please compare CMR with any other coach when it comes to tact, or character.

great season for Coach Richt and the Ga Bulldogs.
Motivation is a fine line with college kids. Richt seems to have the right understanding about it now and proved it several times this year.
Only better things to come.
Lets beat Hawaii and hope that 69 points are scored in that game.

Uncle Dave, if that is your real name, Vili agrees that real football teams are more of a worry than a bunch of fans wearing black shirts who cake themselves with cosmetics. But your “best team” rankings confuse Vili. Vili understands including the USC Gamecocks as one of the top teams, since they beat the doggies. But why Oklahoma instead of Tennessee, the only other team to beat the all powerful doggies, the greatest team ever assembled? (Except for Tenn. and South Carolina)

Hope our Dawgs win the bowl game and come out ranked at or near the top of next season. However, having watched the Hawaii games…we don’t need to take them lightly or we’ll end up on the short end. As everyone knows, if you go into a game thinking you have it all locked up because you are playing a weaker opponent, that’s when you get a reality check. So….DAWGS….come to the game with the right attitude and know that their QB can pass as accurately as a laser beam, their receivers catch nearly every ball, and like the game announcers pointed out…their receivers don’t run a pre-determined route. The route depends upon whether the defense lines up so the defensive man can never win!! BE READY! GO DAWGS!

Yes that is my name Vilia… if that is your real name I feel bad for you man. I did not say the dogs deserved any other game. They do not. .. and yes it is true that they lost to Carolina and the Vols… that is not my point. This is a young team that grew up by the end of the year. I realize that growth and evolution are abstract concepts difficult for your obviously weak perceptive abilities. I notice you keep the argument focused on Georgia. Indeed, it is not Hawaii’s fault that nobody will play them… or that they play such a weak schedule that even in a year in which all of the traditional powers fell short… even in such a year they still have to back into a BCS game as the last team selected. Unlike your limited point of view, however, I do have respect for my team’s opponent. I always admired June Jones, and everybody knows about his incredible quarterback and receivers. I even respect Jerry Glanville. Jones and Glanville were better coaches than any the Falcons have seen in a long while. I think that Hawaii is a team built on guts and sheer moxie. What I do not respect is trash talking ignorant adolescents who shoot off their mouths and demonstrate an obvious lack of perspective. You do not get it. This young Georgia team is hungry and hitting its stride. Prepare to be educated.

Georgia continues to graduate our Football Players BETTER than the Georgia Institute of Technology does their football players : Here’s the list of Saturday’s graduates: Sean Bailey, Andy Bailey, Thomas Brown, A.J. Bryant, Brandon Coutu, Mitch Davis, Thomas Flowers, T.J. Gartrell, Chris Gaunder, Mikey Henderson, Marcus Howard, Jason Johnson, Justin Lyles, Drew Williams and Ben Wilson.
Well done men.
In the classroom, on the field, and representing your school’s coach.
I don’t think Coach Richt is concerned about his salary. He can’t spend what he gets now.
And, David Justice did NOT say that he DID NOT buy the Human Growth Hormone. In fact, he said he did from what I can tell of what Colin Cowherd’s radio show played today.
But, Colin Cowherd did say today that the folks in the North are SMARTER and BETTER EDUCATED than in The South, and that those demographics mean that the hybrid cars make up only 1 percent of the market because you cannot drive hybrids in the snow such as he drove through today.
So, in 1 week, I have decided to (1) NOT go to baseball games since they are a fraud and (2) NOT listen to Colin Cowherd.
Can we not be behind in every game next year, for a change please ?

Georgia has nothing to lose playing Hawaii Chipper ?
That’s the consensus ? Oh, yea ? Want to run a poll here then I challenge you Chipper ? That says specifically : Who has MORE to LOSE in the BCS Sugar Bowl Game at 8:30 p.m. in New Orleans in the Superdome, Number 4 UGA who might end up Number 2 without a Loss, or Number 10 Hawaii who can climb no higher than about 8 with a win, leaving The Bulldogs STILL HIGHER RANKED than Hawaii who would fall to about Number 6 losing to a Top 10 team.
Honestly, the BS the AJ-C dreams up to make The SEC and UGA specifically look bad, is beyond rational understanding.
Today Tony Blowhardt of the AJ-C, who thinks his doesn’t stink, figured out all by himself that The SEC will be cheating now to win with 12 of the nation’s top coaches all in 1 conference.
We lost 2 and gained 2 good ones. In fact, Ole Miss got a better head coach than they had and Arkansas got a better head coach than they had.
The other 10 did not need a coach as they saw it, and The SEC got 1st pick of all the coaches in the nation.
So, thereafter while the rest of the nation scrambled to find a coach for their team, The SEC had ours.

What’s this junk about the recruiting prowess of Paul Johnson when in 1 week after he was hired, he lost the Number 16 Quarterback in the nation who said he would NOT play for a coach who is Number 119 in the nation in Passing this season and gained the number 45 best wide receiver in the state of Georgia - not nationwide.
Did 5’ 10” Chris Jackson not get the word that Paul Johnson does NOT pass the football and never has ?
The day before the hiring of Paul Johnson, every AJ-C Sportswriter stated that Paul Johnson was not a good coach for Georgia Tech, and that Georgia Tech was LOOKING VERY BAD in their search for a coach.
Since, you lie AJ-C sportswriters telling us how great Paul Johnson is for Georgia Tech. He beat Number 31 in the BCS Final Rankings Air Force for his best win this season, playing a Number 116 NCAA Official Strength of Schedule he was only 8-4 against. Chandler Gailey beat Number 15 in the BCS Final Rankings Climpson Farmers.
Navy plays in the 1st bowl game of the season December 20th because their best win was over Number 31 Air Force.
Georgia Tech plays mid-stream in the bowl games December 31st.
But, Paul Johnson is doing great in his 1st week as coach in recruiting ? What ? Giving up the nation’s number 16 QB for the state’s number 45 receiver.
Such BS AJ-C.

Nice argument from David Justice that after he was reported to have “purchased human growth hormone” by a witness against him in the Mitchell report who is named, David Justice goes on national ESPN radio sports show and says that he has seen HGH up-close and personal but that if he took it, why did he hit .241 with 18 HORMONES I mean homeruns and only 51 RBI ?
Excuse me David Justice, you played only 1 year after that and had to quit baseball.
Look, you played for the New York Yankees David Justice, whose athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach testified against you AND 16 Yankees on that team that season that he personally was aware of you buying the HGH under oath to the U.S. Senate.
You did NOT say you did NOT buy it. What you said is if you did, then why the .241 batting average, 18 home runs and 51 RBI. And, you said you could not inject yourself with a needle.
So, what are you saying DAVID JUSTICE? That you bought it not knowing that you had to inject it ? You thought you could drink it ?
If the guy is a liar against you, sue him.

Who woke up Bulldawg, he has been quite all season. Great job Seniors, Graduating today, 10-2 record, Sugar Bowl and with a win a top 5 finish. A lot better than a lot of my fellow Dawg fans were predicting for this year. I personnally thought and predicted we would go 11-1 with our only loss to Auburn, off by one game and we did beat the Gators, Tigers and Tech in the same season for the first time since 1982, so it has been a Great Year. Now we must take care of business in the Sugar Bowl and beat a very good and talented Hawaii.

Why is the AJC deliberately trying to cause a rift between Mark Richt and the University of Georgia. The article about Richt’s pay (vs Petrino) could serve NO other purpose. I didn’t see a mention of Petrino’s salary against Tech’s new coach. That is a more apt comparison. Two “job jumpers” who have never really done anything in the major college football.

In the past 10 years, UGA has suffered a number of lapses in leadership that have affected the university and a number of athletic programs. In my opinion, these problems lead directly to the President’s office. The most outrageous lapse of integrity concerned the basketball program and Jim Harrick. Harrick was not the choice of the search committee or the director of athletics, but an old friend of the president. The president personally admitted the now-convicted rapist, Tony Coles, to the university. Basketball 101 followed and UGA became a national joke. The president then pulled the whole basketball team from the conference tournament to cover his own trangressions. He fired Jim Donnan, who was building a successful program, and replaced key administrators with his own yes men. Mark Richt may be a fine person, but the president is a micromanager who has removed anyone who disagrees with his style of management. There have been a number of academic scandals in recent years. The problem with the pharmacy school mentioned above negated entrance test scores for an entire year for the whole country and put jobs on hold for hundreds if not thousands of pharmacy graduates. Georgia has had far more arrests of athletes under Mark Richt than it did under Donnan. Low graduation rate, drunk driving arrests, sale of championship rings on ebay and a high number of unsportsmanlike penalties have characterized recent football teams. There is no doubt that UGA has extremely talented athletes who don’t need an ugly stunt like Richt pulled at Florida to win games. Georgia fans can defend it, but it was dangerous and illegal and could have led to injury. The rap dancing on the sideline and Richt’s defense of it was disgraceful and worthy of Jim Mora. Moreno punctuated the lack of discipline on this team when he threw his helmet when Richt took him out of the Tech game so Thomas Brown, an outstanding young man and senior, could get some playing time. Richt should have sent Moreno to the showers. Mark Richt should take a look at the Atlanta Falcons and assess what is going on with his own team. I have no idea which team will win the national championship next year, but I am pretty sure it won’t be Georgia.

Georgia Tech was our LAST FOOTBALL GAME WE JUST FINISHED PLAYING.
It is Georgia Tech who Lost 6 Football Scholarships for 2007-2008 Season we are playing now for being on Major Infractions NCAA Database PROBATION, and this is now the 2nd time the Georgia Institute of Technology has been on Probation.
Georgia has a HIGHER GRADUATION RATE than Georgia Tech in Football.
The score in the last UGA Football Game was 31-17 a multiple TD Victory for UGA. Oh, yeah the opponent was Georgia Tech.
This last football game makes now 7 years in a row that UGA has beat Tech in Football.
And, the 11th year in a Row now that UGA is Ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25.
Knowshon Moreno was INJURED ON THAT PLAY bh, and that is why he threw his helmut down and didn’t play then but Thomas Brown.
The Georgia Bulldogs will Finish this season Number 2 in the Final AP Poll, will start next season No. 4 in the AP Poll and will ONCE AGAIN be in the discussion about National Champions next season too. Just like we were this season.

This is the most fun season I’ve ever had in awhile. Great job by Richt/staffs.
Now, I’m concerned with Jeff Owen, Dannelle Ellerbe and Brandon Southerland submitting their names for the NFL advisory. Out of the three, I would like for Ellerbe to come back. We have Shaun Chapas and Freddie Munzenmaier as a backup fullback and then Geno Atkins, Kade Weston, Corvey Irvin, Ricardo Crawford and newcomer DeAngelo Tyson fill in for Owen if he decides to go. I hope they all come back, but I can’t blame them either.

It’s CELEBRATION time down in Valdosta tonight - my home town. The Valdosta Blazers won the Div II national championship this afternoon by a score of 25-20 which they have done 2 out of the last 4 years. And Lowndes County Vikings won the AAAAA state championship tonight with a shameful score of 34-6 which they have won 3 out of the past 4 years, by beating the tar out that mighty, super powerhouse, and unbeatable North Gwinnett team that was going to smear LC all over the I75 asphalt. NGs only score came from a broken down play which the QB stumbled across the goal line.

There is a silver lining to Losing 7 in a Row ?
Would it be that you also Lost 6 Scholarships 2007-2008 in Football because of being on Probation in Football ?
Because your graduation ratio of your football players is worse than UGA ?
Because UGA is ranked in the Top 25 for the 11th consecutive season in the Final AP Poll and you 0 ?
Would it be because last week with your old coach, you had the No. 16 QB recruit in the nation from Arizona and now instead, you have the No. 49 football player in the state of Georgia who is 5’ 10” tall and weighs 168 lbs. recruited as a QB ?
Would it be because you think you are the team from this town when no one attends anything at Tech ?
Would it be because UGA is playing in the BCS Sugar Bowl for the 3rd time in 6 seasons under Coach Richt ?
Would it be because you have to come over here to this blog, log in as me, and post in the UGA Forum, because there is no silver lining ?

Good morning TJ,
Lets do this, but I am not going to be the idiot to put my home, company or cell phone in a public blog. I don’t know you, but I enjoy the sport of fighting. You say you are a former marine, so I suppose you know how to handle yourself in the ring. If you really want to do this, then we will make it legal…I pick the gym, we use 4oz MMA gloves, and we can even add a little wager to the fight. It ends when you or I tap out, or if the ref decides to stop it. Both must sign a waiver. I can supply the ref for free, but if you dont trust my guy, we can get someone for $50, loser pays the fee.
I don’t want to fight a guy 30 years my senior, but you can decide, and it could be fun for both of us. If you p* me off, I will break a bone, but most likely we will end up shaking hands after it ends.
If you really want it, leave contact information.
As for Lesslie, I could care less if you are judging my education by typos in a chat/blog. Just like everyone makes a habbit of acting real bad and tough behind their computer, I could sit here and tell you my degrees, certification, etc., but how could I prove it. I am comfortable knowing that I am well educated, and I don’t feel the need to prove it to you. This was actually my first time posting on a blog, and I dont often spend much time talking about doing stuff, but I actually get out and live in the real world. You should try it.
I’ll be back in 24 hours, then I must let you all go. You guys really crack me up, where you want to fight anyone who has a different opinion…on a person you dont even know!

Thank God for a coach like Mark Richt. Good guys do finish well and are successful. Mark Richt takes care of the important things in life and success in his efforts follow. A man who loves God, prays, lives a godly life that young men can follow is very rare in college sports. Would any young man’s parents not want them to play under Coach Mark Richt. I thank God for Mark Richt and truly believe he is totally “for real” in his faith, his life and his comittment to the DAWGS. I too had fun this year excited week to week about the game and what Georgia would do next. Blacking out Auburn and T-boning TBOW were wonderful lifetime memories. Thanks for the memories Coach!!!!

I have class. I am tough and smart. I box in gyms. I don’t hide behind computers like you little men. Why don’t you leave some contact information. I won’t. I have multiple degrees. You people make me laugh. Wasting your time blogging and hiding behind your computers. Why can’t you have class like me?

This is the most boring blog in weeks. Tech guys aren’t around much, this dude Rome has some personal vendetta going on with EVERYBODY, and Florida fans are just rehashing the same “Tebow was hurt” crap they’ve been talking about the last month.
I can’t wait for the bowl games to start. We need some fresh material.
Oh, I do need to add my two cents’ worth on the Richt-Petrino thing. Obviously, Petrino—being the mercenary he is—had to be offered a whopping salary to leave his failing pro football adventure. Arkansas, in desperation mode, hired him and paid him what he demanded. You know Richt isn’t going to renegotiate a contract in the middle of the year, especially with a bowl game coming up, so the salary differential at the epicenter of this story is really a non-issue. The University of Georgia wants Mark Richt and Coach Richt wants to stay in Athens. However, being a person of true character (unlike Petrino, Saban, Tuberville, Spurrier et al), he won’t hold that over the heads of the people involved and feign interest in other schools in order to get more money. They’ll work it all out once football season is over.
And for those of you who didn’t appreciate or understand the whole Florida Gators stunt, get over it. There was no malicious intent. The Dawgs didn’t engage in any cheap shots, flip off anybody or engage in any unsolicited mayhem. It was all about getting a team fired up, and the whole thing involved Georgia players, not Florida players. If violence had erupted, it would have been on the part of the opposing team, because Georgia did not provoke them AT ALL. The argument that it was somehow “dangerous” is like saying that a woman’s rape could be pinned on her for dressing provocatively. The argument just doesn’t hold water.
Let’s play a game or two so we can have something real to talk about.

Well said Heeldawg. I have heard enough about the rash on Tebow’s non-throwing shoulder that day. It amazes me that someone can be so injured that it complete discounts the opposing teams win, yet after 6 sacks and plenty of runs up the middle to exacerbate the injury, it was completely healed the following week. It’s a shame for Florida that he could not use that miraculous healing power the week before. Then the mighty Tebow could have held the Bulldogs to less than 42 points since he plays defense too. Congrats to Tebow on the heisman though. He’s a helluva player. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d be happy for him to get 2 more if we could get 2 more Cocktail Party wins in trade. Go Dawgs!!!!

Chip…”no win” is the general consensus where? Do you think that? Do your fellow writers? Is that the official take of most knowledgable sports personalities? I’ve missed that I guess.

Do you think the AJC sports editor can think of any more online headlines regarding Coach Richt’s salary and Coach Petrino’s salary in his effort to creat a controversy and get more hits on the website?
Perhaps the AJC sports editor can sell his soul to Satan (if he has not already done so) to get some additional web revenue. Some people have no shame and the AJC people are at the top of the list.

heeldawg & DawgsDawgsDawgs——I’m pretty well tapped into the Gator alumni and fan networks, and I haven’t heard a lot of whining or excuse-making from Gator fans about the outcome of this year’s game (and, no, a handful of excuse-making idiots does not a trend make). Sure, it’s disappointing when your team loses to one of their biggest rivals, but you can’t win them all, and the Dawgs were due. In previous games, the ball had bounced the Gators’ way; this year, it bounced right for the Dawgs. Your boys won fair and square.
As for Tim Tebow’s shoulder injury, I have two observations. First, when your team loses by 12 points and the other guys score 42, more than one thing went wrong, and some of those things probably happened on defense. Second, I can remember another recent Georgia-Florida game that probably turned on a UGA QB being injured. Like I said, the ball bounces funny for everyone some times. The “no whining, no excuses” rule is now in effect. See you in Jacksonville next November 1st.

to all who doubt: How many times have you observed CMR throw tantrums on the sidelines> (Clue to answer: 0); How many vulgaraties have you heard from him during a game or at any time you’ve observed him in action? (Clue to answer: 0); how many times has he slapped a player for any reason? (Clue to answer: 0); How do you spell “Character?” M-A-R-K R-I-C-H-T. Bottom line, he’s a decent person, calm under fire (even while reading some BS in the Al-Jezzera Chronical) and is a credit to the DAWG nation. He has the respect of us out in the DAWG world and, I suspect, even the guys at the North Avenue Trade School admire him. BTW: Sour grapes aside, opinions are like @$$H** - everyone has one. If you don’t like the DAWGS, you have a right to say so. We can wait to prove you wrong - even you doubters who haven’t goten through with your first grade studies. DAWGLOVIN’ IN DULUTH. JC

Lone Ranger, I do not doubt you one bit sir. Nor do I do mean to assert that Gator Nation is making excuses. (I cannot even confirm that the excuses on this blog come from real gator fans) My post was aimed at the haters and not the gators. Good luck on new years day. Go Dawgs!!!!

Hey blue, has all that snow frozen you ability to think rationally? You guys have as much chance at a MNC as you do beating a stellar power house program like App St. Bahhhhburn you idiot. Man some people on this blog are freiking troglodites. I mean seriously people, I can handle folks from the trade school, the plains, the hill country or even both swamps coming here and acting mouthy but it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit whenever we have to hear this nonsense from the OU nuts or Michigan’s little boy blue and their ilk. Hey blue, you are ignorant about the future of college football and even though you now have heard the truth you will continue in a state of bitterly cold, snowy, arctic denial. Go Dawgs.

CMR just signed a new deal, and it is already time to tear it up and rewrite.
Saban, Petrino, Tubberville, Tommy Bowden all received big contracts this year. Tubberville and Bowden leveaged Arkansas (and to be fair to Tubberville - he asked for better facilities and protected his coaches).
CMR should be paid a minimum of $2.5MM a year with an escalator that keeps him in line with the top 3 salaries in the SEC. And there should be a $10MM buy out clause - which will give anyone pause, before approaching UGA’S Coach.
He’s a class act, who has done a tremendous job a Georgia. While $2MM is nothing to sneeze at - Georgia should pay the going rate and remove any opportunity for another school to take away the ‘perfect’ coach for Georgia.

Georgia fans are classless. Its disappointing that alot of post is putting down Hawaii. We should be supporting Ga and not talk about our opponent, especially since we have not played them before. Let’s show some class! All our posts where they are calling Hawaii “Stupid, thugs” are being shown in Hawaii news and newspapers. It makes Georgia fans classless..

Georgia #1 Fan,
I would have bet you were actually a Tech fan except for that little slip saying “post is” instead of posts are…..
You make good points in your post but you will take it on the chin from your fellow UGA fans because you are level headed and actually make sense.

Hey Georgia #1 Fan, I think that fans for both teams are engaging in the same type of trash talk, so give your brethren the benefit of the doubt…it’s easy to get carried away when you love your team. Hawaii fans are saying the same type of thing on local blogs here in Honolulu.
I hope that the Georgia players take Hawaii as lightly as most of the UGA fans seem to be. I think Georgia is probably more talented, but the UH team has a lot of heart and will give UGA more than most people expect. After all, the “experts” picked Hawaii to lose it’s last three or four games but UH pulled them out. If they don’t come out ready to play, UH can put up a bunch of points in a hurry. And you folks have never faced a better QB than Colt Brennan (one of Tim Tebow’s high school coaches thinks Brennan is better, but he might be prejudiced since his son is a slotback for UH). And no doubt that the SEC is much better than the WAC, but so is the Big 12 and we saw what BSU did to Oklahoma last year.
I think you folks are lucky to have Richt as a coach, just as we are to have June Jones and Greg McMackin. Win or lose, we Hawaii fans will still be proud of our team’s accomplishments this year. I know going to a big bowl is old hat for you folks, but this is a big deal for the folks in Hawaii and we’ll be in New Orleans representing for sure. Good luck and may the team with the biggest heart win. Aloha.

I just can’t help but to hold a genuine fondness for Mark Richt. I fear the day when he decides to leave UGA for another school or the NFL. He is, to me, as much of a part of today’s program as UGA VI.
For the first time since being screwed by the BCS, I am excited about playing in the Sugar Bowl.
Hawaii still sucks though…
