UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Vols, Tigers descend on the ATL
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The RVs and cars with flags a-flapping started rolling into downtown Atlanta Thursday afternoon. Bright orange- and purple-and-gold clad people started popping up in the hotel lobbies and restaurants on Peachtree Street and in Buckhead bars. Friday they’ll be joined by the teams they follow, Tennessee and LSU, and Saturday they’ll tee it up in the Georgia Dome for the Southeastern Conference Championship.
It’s an odd sight for Georgia fans this year in particular. Here their Bulldogs are, the highest-ranked SEC team in the nation, essentially assured of a BCS bowl bid with an outside shot of making it into the biggest of big game, and yet they’re on the outside looking in at the SEC title game being played in their back yard. As we’ve discussed before, it’s not an entirely bad thing for UGA. Its scenario is not likely to change dramatically regardless of the outcome. But as we all know, for competitors it’s all about the championships and other than the SEC co-championship the Bulldogs already own, there will likely be no others this season.
With that in mind we’re here today to find out a couple of things:
One, which team will Georgia fans be rooting for on Saturday? Do they root for their Eastern Division brother Tennessee, a bitter rival but one that could do them a huge favor by assuring that there will be no leapfrogging done by LSU in the polls? Or does Georgia’s hate for all things orange run so deep that they would not wish for any achievement for the Vols?
And two, never mind wants and needs, who do you think in your football-crazed brains is going to win Saturday’s game? Do you like the once-invincible-looking, formerly-No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers and their smash-mouth defense? Or do you see the Vols’ red-hot quarterback Erik Ainge carving them up in the perfect throwing-and-catching environment that the Georgia Dome provides?
Now don’t be shy. Let’s hear predictions and scenarios. I’ll go first. Ron Higgins of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal asked me for a prediction earlier today so I might as well share it here — Tennessee 42-40 in four overtimes (What can I say? These two teams love extra periods).
Now your turn… .

I am Switzerland for this game. I have friends who attended UT and friends who attended LSU and frankly, I don’t like either team (though I dislike UT more) so I am not going to root for either.
I don’t think either team is healthy right now. LSU is really banged up, I read (maybe here)that Matt Flynn might not even start of play much. Dorsey is still in constant pain. UT isn’t as good of a team to begin with and I think they lost a player or two in the Kentucky game. I really have no idea who will win. I tend to agree with you though Chip, I think the game will be close. LSU 24-17.

UT = UK’s Big Brother = LSU loss. The Bayou Bengals will not get to Ainge. He will pick them apart. Woodson has a little more talent, but Ainge has more poise. LSU is over-rated.

I’m with you, Chip. I think this game goes to overtime and with LSU’s bad luck in OTs and Tennessee’s unbelievable fortune in OT (I still can’t believe a team turns over the ball in OT and still wins) Tennessee wins. I think that answers Mile’s question about whether his team deserves to jump the dogs and play for the NC. I don’t see the Dawgs going to the NC with 2 losses no matter what happens with LSU and Tenn. I’m thrilled they’re in the BCS and hope they get a chance to beat Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl. Go Dawgs!

Vols up 27 - 7 at half time, and win 34 - 28, with a int for a TD by Georgia boy Eric Berry in the 4th qtr. Matt Flynn will be out of the game within 10 minutes of the first qtr. Vols will have better field position all day due to Dennis Rogan, and Britton Colquit will not kick to the little fast sucka they got. You’ll be able to hear Rocky Top on Peachtree, GO VOLs, its a BIG ORANGE NATION, and no you can’t win a NC if you don’t win your conference how dumb of anyone to say you can.

I’ll admit it, hurts a bit not having the Dawgs in the Dome, because I know we would have opened up a can on LSU, like we have in the past. Isn’t CMR 3-1 against LSU.
For the sake of LSU not leap frogging us….Vowels 59 - LSWho 57 going for 5 OT’s
BTW, I am stuck up here in Columbus, OH and would love to see the Dawgs humiliate the Nuts.

I don’t like either team. But, I say that UT wins the SECC game. I mean, they really did beat us. If they win, it makes the East look good. Les Miles has been running his mouth too much for me to pull for his team (for now at least). But, if UT does win, I would be perfectly fine with them losing to Hawaii in the Sugar to bring them back to reality.

It all depends on the mind set of LSU. If they come t’d off at the world and play with reckless abandon, they win by 14. If their heads are still down, Tenn. wins a close on, say 24-20.

Congrats to both teams for being there in this crazy year. Sorry the Dawgs didn’t make it, but we had our chances. South Carolina game will be our biggest regret; UT kicked our butt. LSU certainly had its chances for the BIG game, but the SECCG is pretty big, too. If they pout instead of play, they lose - and may lose anyway. UT could’ve blown it the past two weeks, but they didn’t, so they’re in. Hoping for a good, competitive game for the national media, and that the purple and orange people enjoy Atlanta. Please leave lots of dollars.

I hate pulling for either team but I guess I will go for UT this year. Then the Dawgs can say the loss was to the eventual SEC Champion.Of course with the loss Miles can’t cry about jumping UGA in the polls either. Score 34-27 VOLS.

With all the distractions involved with Michigan and Miles, I think UT wins a close game. Now many LSU fans think the Michigan/Miles situation isn’t really a distraction but how can the LSU players not be thinking about the fact that their coach is leaving after the season. They, LSU, should’ve never lost to Arkansas. Miles belongs in the Big 10, not in the SEC.
So Tennessee wins 27-20! Should be a great game.

I HATE tennessee with every ounce of my body.
I am also a closet LSU fan (when they arent playing the dawgs).
But i hope UT beats the crap out of LSU. Les Miles is one of the worst football coaches to coach in the SEC, ever.
I would have fired him on the field after the arkansas game. He has ruined a defense that will have 8/11 playing on Sundays. He has wasted 1 yr of eligibility for both Keiland Williams and Charles Scott by having Matt Flynn throw the ball 40 times a game. Those 2 guys scored almost every fourth time they touched the ball!
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING THE PISTOL FORMATION IN THE SEC?
The man is an absolute idiot. And the LSU faithful should be praying to god that Michigan hires him. And so should the Ohio St fans….

I think Les Miles has proven himself to be a bit of a whiner this week. Comparing 2 OT loses as 1 loss in regulation was pathetic… That, and the fact he’s packing his bags for Michigan, has taken what little fight LSU has left.
I think Tennessee pulls an upset with a last minute field-goal. It’s pretty much the way they’ve won all year.

Everyone who picked Tennessee(these nutz)to win, because of the coaching distraction, is correct. LSU, who just lost major momentum at the hands of McFadden and the hawgs, is now dealing with the possibility of their leader leaving them. This, in my opinion, is far worse than an injury! This affects the whole team,…not just one position! Also, Fulmer found a way to light a perverbial(sp?)fire into his team! Ainge is back to form, and the Vols are making plays happen.
I freakin’ hate both teams (especially the one that whooped us), but in this one case, I’ll root for (gulp!..with a sour face) Tennessee. …..Tn.-28 LSU-23

LSU will win by 10. why? because Tenn. is very lucky to beat Vandy and super lucky to beat Kentucky. and Honestly Tenn. defense sucks. the only good win Tenn had this season is against Georgia when they have 2 weeks to prepare. and don’t forget Tennessee played 4 OT game on the road on Saturday, while LSU is well rested, since they played at home a day earlier! LSU is trying to salvage their season so they will play with a sense of urgency! LSU win it 27-17.

All Dog fans had better be pulling for the Vols if they want to go to a BCS bowl game. If LSU jumps UGA then the Orange Bowl will be free to pick the Gators. If this option is available to the Miami folks they will not hesitate to take Florida. The Dogs will then be headed to Orlando and the Cap One Bowl. Count on it.

GTP, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. 10-2 is far above a failed season, especially when expectations were around 8-4 or at most 9-3. With all the questions about the OL, DL, and defensive secondary, 10-2 is really good. Unfortunately we just didn’t show up for one game, and missed a couple opportunities in another. Otherwise, we’d be ranked number 1 in BCS in a rebuilding season. Take that to the bank!

Tenn wins because LSU’s defense is the most overrated unit in the country. They’ve given up 20 or more points in 5 of their last 6 games, and the one team that did not get 20 was Louisiana Tech. Basically it comes down to who has the better offense, and unless Periloux is the second coming of Vince Young(which I doubt), the Vols have a better offense. Final Tenn 41 LSU 34

I cannot bring myself to pull for UT. In a bowl game, no problem. But I don’t want UT to win anymore than I do the Gators. East/West who cares? Whoa there TheItalianDog. No need for the name calling and for your info I am not a Gator fan. Just saying that the only guarantee for Georgia to get into a BCS bowl game is for the Dogs to finish in the top four in the BCS standings. If LSU jumps them then the Orange Bowl is free to choose Florida instead of Georgia. They would prefer the home state Gators and Tim Tebow over Georgia. Should Georgia get the bid ahead of the Gators? Yes. Will they? No.

I think LSU is overrated based on a preseason ranking and two impressive victories to open the season. Since then they’ve looked like just another competitive, top-tier SEC team, no different from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee or Auburn. Tennessee is not that great either, but they seem to have luck on their side right now. I like Tennessee in this one.

It would be strange to have an SEC champion who lost its two conference games by 39 and 27 points. But this has been a strange year throughout college football, and Tennessee’s 6-2 conference record is tied with LSU and Georgia at the top of the SEC, so you have to give them credit for that.
Under the old system (pre conference title game), Georgia, Tennessee and LSU would all be co-SEC champs this year. Then the debate would have been about which team the Sugar Bowl would take.

Okay, I am not Switzerland anymore. This is from ESPN.com:
“…The Vols’ players have almost reveled in all the talk about Georgia this week and the Bulldogs’ not being a part of the SEC championship proceedings.
“It’s ridiculous for Georgia to even be in this conversation. It’s just sour grapes by them,” senior linebacker Ryan Karl said. “They had an opportunity just like we did, and we wanted it more that day. If they had beaten us, they wouldn’t have to worry about being at home and not getting a chance to play for the [SEC] title.”

Les Miles referred to LSU earlier in the season as an 800 pound gorilla with a chain saw for a penis. Well Les as has been proven, they’re not. The most talented team in the country (LSU) is just an average team in the SEC and I believe the Vols will prove it to them.
Les is les on the coaching level and Michigan will find that out soon enough. Phat Phil’s coaching is going to reveal that chain saw as the flaccid noodle it is. Give the QB advantage to the Vols. Ainge is good and he’ll show it . Running game goes to LSU but that isn’t going to be enough. Vols 29-20 in regulation

Yes Less said it. Bill King on Rivals satelite radio plays it several times a week. I don’t know if you remember but I was blogging early in the year and then later about drinking that LSU kool-aid when they were ranked #1. I didn’t believe it then that they were the best nor do I now. They are quite possibly the most talented team but far from the best SEC in my mind. Too much parity this year in conference. Sure, they rank at the top of the conference with FL, GA, AU and it appears TN.
FL, GA, AU has more up and coming talent but LSU was supposed to be seasoned and steamroll every one. They didn’t steam roll anyone in conference but Miss ST

Hey good luck to your Dog fans in whatever bowl you play in. Regular season is over so I can cheer for the whole SEC now…except Alabama…root in hell. As for this game, well it scares me reading all these articles on LSU’s “overrated” D. Fuel to the fire. Our D is young but they are skilled I think we can keep up with thier offense. A hurt Dorsey is to our advantage, I look for Fulmer to try and pount it up the middle early and often to tire Dorsey out. Ainge…when he’s on he’s one of the best in the country…but if he gets nervous he’ll cost us the game.
Still, I think TN wins this one 31-24. Late.

I agree with you. Right now Georgia is arguably the best team in the SEC. Most certainly the hottest. Unfortunately for us the first half of our season lacked much to be desired. The first half of the season counts too. I earnestly believe the Dawgs would beat either LSU or the Vols this weekend in the SECCG but as you know, we are not afforded that opportunity. We thoroughly beat FL and AU the other two very good teams in the SEC. Neither LSU or the Vols could accomplish that in that manner.
I have no distain for LSU. I actually like them when playing other than GA but Less Miles is over-hyped and way short on coaching ability. It’s been hinted at in this blog…but I’m getting more concerned about UGA’s BCS chances if LSU and/or Va Tech win their games and leap-frog UGA in the BCS poll.
I’m hearing the Fiesta would like to pick Kansas as an at-large, the Rose would pick Illinois, and the Orange might pick Florida. That means no BCS for UGA.
I absolutely hate thinking about it…but if the favorites win this weekend…there is a good chance UGA will not play in a BCS game.

In all seriousness, If LSU wins the SEC, leap-frogs UGA, and then UGA gets passed up by the Rose, Fiesta, and Orange Bowls…could UGA still play in the Sugar Bowl vs LSU?
I know the projections are for Hawaii…but that is assuming that UGA isn’t left to be taken. Would the Sugar Bowl consider that match-up?

FLADAWG
If ’ backing in ’ means winning the ones you gotta win to get in the SECCG, well, that’s a new one on me and I’ve followed this game for years…You see FLADAWG, our season in the SEC is a season of playoff games..Only two get a shot at the brass ring in the end. Those are the two that win the ones you gotta have to get there. With UGA playing great ball down the stretch and in our rearview mirror, we didn’t falter…Score that one for the Big Orange…
et al To paraphrase John Chavis, DC of the Tennessee Vols, ” I’ve never been a part of an ugly win. “…We have an OL that has allowed but THREE sacks in 12 games…THREE…If UT’s offense doesn’t burp, it’s a machine that can control the flow…Now the defense has been a question mark all year. But this same defense that has that huge question mark also stood up to the SC comeback ( and won ) and the Lexington Shootout ( and won ) Didn’t LSU lose at Lexington..?
UT’s 2007 defense won’t be remembered for it’s dominance in controlling their side of the ball. But to me, your humble Pumpkin Watchdog, they are good enough to have earned this opportunity…Win or lose, they made it.
AND I agree with the masses, like LSU of 2006, UGA played the best ball in the SEC down the stretch… They blinked once and that’s all it took…GO VOLS

Relax. Georgia is going BCS, even if LSU wins and leapfrogs it… . The only way the Dogs go to Sugar is if LSU catapults back into the BCS title game, which I don’t see happening. In my opinion the loser of the SEC championship will have three losses and be out of the BCS, simple as that. If Tennessee wins, then its in Sugar and LSU in Capital One or Cotton or Outback, depnding on how SEC decides it wants it to fall. If LSU wins and doesn’t get back into title game, then its in Sugar, period. Dogs would go Orange, Fiesta or Rose depending on shakeout… . I’m one of the few that does believes the Rose will NOT take Illinois over the many other higher ranked opponents… . All this just my humble opinion… .
FLA DAWG: Florida is NOT my No. 1 pick. I wouldn’t hazard to guess until right before next season starts… . What I said ONE time was to someone predicting on this blogs that the Dogs would be preseason No. 1 next season. I said, “don’t be surprised if Gators are preseason No. 1.” That’s all I said. That’s no proclamation.

Chip——No confusion here. I’m going to watch a good SEC championship game this weekend in person, even if the Gators aren’t in it. As for the BCS bowl games, I believe that the two teams from the same conference rule still applies, and I don’t see a realistic scenario how the Gators suddenly become the second SEC pick; two of LSU, UT and UGA will still be ahead of UF after this weekend. I suppose it’s possible that the Orange Bowl could pick Florida over Georgia, but it’s not terribly likely. Looks like the Capital One Bowl for the Gators and the selection committee’s all-orange-and-blue dream match-up of the Illini vs. the Gators.
Afterall, your team can’t be national champions EVERY year. In the memorable words of my Dawg friends, just wait ‘til next season! LOL

Tennessee wins this game in a very close one. Dogs need to stop crying and makeing excuses. There are no do overs in football reguardless of how much better you think you are nw than when you played Tennessee, Im sure Florida would like to have a do over as well. For all that is worth Im sure Tennessee would like to play Cal now and with that victory that would be ranked above Georgia due to strength of schedule. Face it georgia Tennessee has whipped you 2 years running and they earned the right to be where they are. Go Vols !

Don’t count out Tennessee, but I think LSU takes this one. While UT is “hot”, remember they almost (and some will say should have) lost to the doormats of the SEC East in their past two games. Granted Vandy & UK are better than they have been, but still…
This is the downside to having the SEC championship game in Atlanta. Its like a huge party held at your house and you aren’t invited. So you sit in your room and listen to everyone else having a festive time.

VolMBAer, you guys will probably take this one. Ainge is taking care of business. Without Flynn LSU will struggle that is just the facts of starting as QB in the SEC championship game w/o a lot of game time this season (Perriloux). The game will be too fast and your defense will eat him up. One stat I didn’t know that was mentioned during the KY game was that Ainge had only been sacked liked 3 times ? the entire season. Is that correct? Awesome stat. No wonder Ainge is tearing it up.

I HOPE for a UT win. We can toss the 20-6-1 ( I think ) record UT holds over LSU this coming Saturday. LSU is good. Scary good. Beat up, but so is Tennessee. By all accounts, I had LSU at 13 1/2 favorites before Vegas put up the 7 1/2…
Will LSU go after Erik Ainge’s pinky..? Will LSU have Dorsey pumped with painkillers..? Will I have enough cold beer..? One other point of interest then I’ll suit up for my Friday 4 miler…I’ve been led to believe LSU is the most penalized team in the SEC this year. A real lack of discipline has been their bane…BUT, so was the case for UF last year and they played practically flawless ball against Ohio State…I’m looking for the Tigers to see the yellow flag thrown at them all night long, but watch the late hits to Ainge, please…

Gen, you are correct, TN in NO WAY backed in. To say such just means you have no idea what that term actually means. (hard to imagine somebody using a term in here out of context). TN in the classic case of winning in.
I can see TN finally playing an entire great game, or everything that could go wrong, finally catches up. Suffice it to say, I will not be betting on the game.
Still, its hard to imagine any Dawg fan not pulling for TN in this one.
BTW “dawg-gone-truth”, I have no idea what comments you are refering to. 99% of any serious UGA fan posting in here is far from demanding we go to NC game. The only reason anyone even comments on it, is that the remote possibility has been pointed out repeatedly in the media. And we are damn appreciative of being in the conversation. I’m sure the fans of your fine school would never stoop to expressing glee for a football season that ended much better than any (others) expected.

As lucky as Tennessee has been this year, I think they will luck out another, especially with all the distractions and injuries at LSU. As a Florida fan, we don’t want Phil Fullmer to lose his job. At least, with Fullmer at the helm, that’s one sure win for us each year.

Les Miles stinketh up the playing field. He was ranked number one twice and could not hang on to it either time. Phat Phil on the other hand had to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous insults, a couple of embarassing losses and still got the job done. I am not nor have I ever been, warm and fuzzy for the guy, but he has comeback this year and never let anything stop him, my hat is off to him, now I gotta put it back on because it is chilly and I am bald.

I guess everyone is forgetting the whipping that LSU put on VT earlier this season. When LSU beats UT and everyone else loses what will the pollsters say then. Obviously the 1 - 4 ranked teams don’t hold a candle to the talent of LSU. LSU has never lost a game in regulation and it took 6 overtimes to beat them twice. We all know who the real #1 team is. I say forget the BCS and let’s move on to a play off system and let the teams prove it on the field.

I think Georgia will go to the rose bowl that if ohio state play in the NC game. the BCS officials know that the system has major flaws and they dont want to make it even worse by picking 13 ranked Illinois over 4th ranked hot Georgia team! and for Florida, I can understand why we get intimidated by the gators, But not any more, Screw Florida! they are overrated. and next season we will punch them on the mouth again! I’ve watched sports nite on CSS,they say LSU should jump UGA if they win tomorrow and if WV and Missouri lose then play in the championship game. It’s hard to say who should get a chance between us and LSU in that scenario. What makes no sense what so ever is LSU jumping VT if they both win tomorrow.Tony Barnhard joined the brain dead chorus saying they will get the call ahead of VT.If both VT and LSU win tomorrow and LSU passes VT this process loses what little credibility it has with me which is not much as it is. I know LSU beat VT early in the season but that should have been factored into the rankings long before now.VT is higher ranked in the BCS and they play the #11 BCS team while LSU plays the #14 BSC team. There is simply no reasonable case that allows the Tigers to pass the Hokies if they both win….none.

I don’t care about the teams ranked worse than UGA in the polls. Why would I ? LSU Coach Less Miles was asked again today about his Starting Quarterback Senior Matt Flynn’s injury and if he is expected to play or Ryan Perrilloux, a Sophomore. We all watched that Heisman Trophy Hopeful Defensive Tackle Senior Glenn Dorsey could not even sit down in the last game LSU lost for fear that he would not be able to even walk. Of course, Less Miles has been largely ineffective in quelling the rumors that his former alma mater would interview him directly following The SEC Championship Game about becoming Michigan’s Head Coach, where he also was on the coaching staff at Michigan.
The vols, haven’t won an SEC Championship in a decade in a row now and counting. Several of the past 5 years, Phillip Fulmer has gone totally unranked as a team. He has 3 losses this season, including both to a 6-5 lousy California team, and to a 6-6 lousy beyond belief Alabama team.
LSU beating a Number 14 now, surely to drop well beyond Number 14 with their 4th loss of the season before the vols add to their all-time bowl losingest record in bowl games - especially under Phillip Fulmer, will not help LSU for LSU’s 2 of their last 6 games they have already lost now.
Clearly, LSU does not have the type of balance UGA has with Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno and Thomas Brown, and our Defense which is the Number 19 NCAA Total Defense again this season, along with our solid Special Team play.
Clearly, the vols are a weird football team, especially on defense. They have only 1 guy to stop on the ground, and like Arkansas did losing 5 games and playing for The SEC Championship and losing, stands a very good chance if they also lose their bowl game like Arkansas did, would drop out of the Top 25 altogether.
If the vols beat No. 7 LSU who is just right directly behind No. 6 Kansas but a long way from Kansas up to Georgia in the polls, the vols would not expect to move up that far.
If LSU were to beat a Number 14 team, that hardly does anything to delay the rumors surrounding this distracted, injured, stars recruited by Nick Saban team who has not matched the success of Nick Saban with Less Miles.
Less is a very poor game-time decision-maker. His results in Wins in games of his weirdo choices of his in game decisions, followed by the interviews of him on the sidelines afterwards leaves everyone wondering if he really can recruit given his comparisons there so poorly compared to Nick Saban and his game decisions.
By BuLLdawg

Fulmer, well he hasn’t done squat in over a decade, and neither are the team ranked Number 4 way ahead of Number 5, Kansas and way ahead then of Number 6 Virginia Tech, whom LSU also would have to jump to get ahead of even UGA – let alone into a Mythical Pick Two (2) National Championship BCS Game. It is true that LSU, Virginia Tech and Kansas are all 3 very close in the Polls with LSU dead last of those 3 lumped together.
But, there is a
.
.8274 BCS Rating Georgia.
.
.7918 BCS Rating Kansas.
.
Which is a big jump back from UGA.
Forgotten in this LSU scenario for a coach who has done nothing in SEC Championships at LSU with all the Nick Saban talent he recruited to LSU, is that Virginia Tech is playing the Number 11 BCS Ranked team, Boston College.
Boston College is a lot better football team and program than Phillip Fulmer fields up their in ObKnoxiousville.
How much is it going to help LSU to beat a Number 14 team compared to the team ahead of LSU, Virginia Tech, playing the Number 11 team ?
Clearly, Virginia Tech stands with more to gain than LSU.
And, VT is already ahead of LSU.
I don’t think anyone liked or likes today Nick Saban, and Less Miles is no different that no one cares for him either.
Only Phillip Fulmer would come up even worse on that point, of being a well-respected football coach.
I said that both UGA and the vols would beat distracted LSU. I don’t feel any differently today, game day.
We’ll go down there, but if you expect to see me pull for LSU 62-15 in The Coach Richt Era compared to Coach Richt at 63-15 or the vols, who under Phillip Fulmer might end up barely inside the Top 25, or maybe not for the 3rd time in the last 6 years – there is no reason to ask. I want them both to lose, for obvious reasons.
So, which one am I pulling for to win ? I am pulling for both to lose.
I hope that answers your questions Chipper ?

I by no means am pulling for LSU…but I have to wonder why all the glory is being given to VT by some posters here. They were absolutely clobbered by LSU earlier this year, and yet, they are ranked higher in the polls and play in a weaker conference. I just don’t get that at all. If LSU and VT both win…VT should be BEHIND LSU.
I’m grateful that UGA is going to a BCS game most likely, but…it would SUK if UGA plays VT/BC in the Orange Bowl. UGA beat VT last year and with LSUs demolition of them earlier this year…UGA will prove NOTHING by beating them again. It ain’t gonna happen, but USC/UGA or OU/UGA would be much more appealing. Heck, I’d rather see them play an undefeated Hawaii team in the Sugar Bowl.

Is this the first time a SEC East champion is ranked behind the second and third placed teams?
College football really needs a playoff system so that teams like UT and LSU could still have a shot. I think both teams could take out Ohio State or Mizzu.

Now that VT and LSU have won, I will not be surprised if one or both teams jump ahead of UGA because that is all we hear about from the “talking heads.”

The Dawgs are Miami bound, unless the Rose Bowl gets their head out of their azz and realizes they would have the highest rated, most competative game (even better than the National Championship Game) of the year between Georgia and USC.

Hey there, NASCARfan. Look forward to seeing you down on Collins Avenue. Don’t count on seeing too many chicas down there. But that’s not what you Doggy style types were looking for anyway. Hard to believe nobody brings up that Vols beat sorry Doggies and LSU beat sorry Vols, so Doggy strength of schedule is in the toilet. If it’s brown, flush it down!

Help me understand something? Besides UT, the teams LSU barely beat, we (UGA) handled w/ ease. Why shouldn’t we go to the big game?

Could ESPN/ABC lobby any harder for LSU? How can you just say that “No, UGA is now not worthy up that ranking—No, LSU must jump over UGA. Heck, they are even talking about VT and possibly Arizona St. jumping UGA. What is it with the anti-DAWG atmosphere at ESPN?

If LSU or VaTech were better 2 loss teams than Georgia, then they should have been ranked ahead of us LAST WEEK!!!!

Andy in Warner Robins,
“Could ESPN/ABC lobby any harder for LSU?”
I agree…Kirk Herbstreit HATES the Dawgs…he never picks them to win in the big games, and it was blatantly obvious he would rather see LSU or USC get in there instead of UGA…FU Kirk!!

I can see VT going but if LSU jumps us and VT I’ll be p**.It would make no sense for them to pass a higher rated VT team that beat a higher rated team than LSU did today.CMR made a mistake by not making our case earlier in the week.People are like parrots, they hear Less Miles spew his bs all week and we hear the talking heads quoting him nearly word for word.Keep those fingers crossed fellow Dawg fans….this could be our dream come true.

It is so freakin’ obvious that UGA gets no love from anyone. The powers that be make it seem like a team that was kept out of their conference title game has never been to the big dance. If the DAWGS get jumped it will be a clear sign that there is some serious bias going on!!

To have the cards fall just right…only to get jumped by a team that is not any better than UGA…is gonna sting. A-ville, you are right that CMR didn’t lobby enough…but it’s hard to argue when your team is not playing in the SECCG and the other is. You have to wonder what happens if Vandy makes the final FG, or if UK makes the FG in 2OT against UT. I think UGA would have given LSU all they can handle and then some.

Regardless of who gets there…with OSU and a 2-loss team in there, this will be one of most weightless NC games ever played. If UGA and USC somehow end up playing in the Rose Bowl…I’d just as soon call that the NC game. The system is a failure.

It feels like the night before Christmas in a bad dream when you’re a little kid. You started out the first half of the year on not too good footing, but the second half you were good. Check that, you were great. You did everything you were supposed to and then did chores that weren’t even yours to begin with and you did a great job. All along the way your parents complimented you on how great you had recently become and excited you with the great presents that would surely follow. Here is where the nightmare part begins. Just before it’s time to unwrap presents, your fat cousin in his stupid orange jumpsuit comes in and sets fire to half of your presents. Then you find out your parents aren’t your parents at all. They’re crazy people who kidnapped you and have made it their mission in life to set you up only to kick your feet out from under you. Then to add insult to injury, they tell you that it doesn’t matter because the best half of the presents are still available…..What’s that? A knock at the door! It’s your illegitimate second cousin from the swamp on the delta. (His daddy is a foul mouthed money grubbin yankee). Your imposter parents then decide to give the rest of your presents to lil swamp donkey and you get a swift kick to the nethers and are sent to bed so Ma and Pa fakey fake can stay up late and have a spirit reading with little cajun gumbo breath’s dead great great great grampy Gen Sherman. Well that’s pretty much the end of the dream folks and if you think there is no bias against teams from the South, well then you don’t know your history. Good night to all. I hope when I wake up it really is just a bad dream. Go Dawgs forever. Many of us still believe in you and are prouder of you for this season than you will ever know.

Coach Richt made a huge tactical error by not working the media earlier in the week. The voters are scattered all over the country, the only way to reach them is by mass media.Add the fact voting is just hours after the last games are played so most voters have already considered how they’d vote given various outcomes in saturday’s games. That means while they were pondering who should go Less Miles was in their ears while coach Richt was silent.

In the What Have You Done For Me Lately category, we evaluate each top team’s performance in the season’s second half, including the conference title games. This is what we refer to as the “hot” teams.
Georgia 6-0
West Virginia 6-1
Oklahoma 6-1
Virginia Tech 6-1
Missouri 6-1
Ohio State 5-1
Southern Cal 5-1
Kansas 5-1
Louisiana State 5-2
.
So who appears to be the nation’s “hottest” team? The records don’t lie. Only Hawaii has a longer winning streak (they are losing to Washington 28-14 at this time), but who have they played? Oh sure, these young Dawgs suffered through some growing pains earlier in the year, but rest assured, this group has grown up in a hurry!
The way this season has unfolded (unravelled is a better word), who cares what happened two months ago? This is not the same Georgia squad. The streak is no fluke: We handled Florida in Jax. We hung 45 on Auburn’s top SEC defense. We held Kentucky’s offense 24 points below their average.
Do the Dawgs deserve a shot? I say OH, HELL YES!!!!!!!!!

Total BS if LSU jumps from #7 to #2. They barely beat Tennessee and that “nobody beat us in regulation” argument is stupid; they weren’t winning or losing when time expired—they were tied, hence the need for over-time.
This BCS crap is all about ratings not quality match-ups. All the analysts were falling all over themselves to move LSU to the national championship after the referees failed to deliver victory to West Virginia.

Well… the best team won. I was suprised that UT played as well as they did against an athletically superior team.
Too bad for Ainge, he just tried to thread the needle too many times and got burned.
I don’t blame him for the loss. I blame the coaches. UT had great field position several times and had to punt. The play calling was not up to par. UT should have run the G-package and simulated McFadden more often. That would have thrown LSU’s defense off balance enough to allow Ainge to thread those passes in there.
I miss the days when UT coaches would make great calls.
The Vol Nation should be very proud of itself. Once again, we filled the stadium. It looked like we outnumbered LSU fans 4 to 1. No wonder no one wants to stay at LSU, their fans are not supportive. How many times did LSU false start? 6 or 7 times? The Vols should play in the Ga Dome all the time!!
As for bowls. Who cares? They are meaningless. Give us a playoff system please. Then we will be able to crown a real National Champion.
Georgia should go to the National championship and play against Ohio State. They are the number 4 team in the land, and both number 1 and 2 lost. So, the number 3 and number 4 teams should play each other.
Bowls suck.

Eric C., you’re right. Tennessee screwed Georgia again.
How many times has UT put the screws to UGA? Three by my count. I guess that’s what happens when you are having to rely on a bitter SEC East rival to get the job done for the ‘Dogs. God, I wish Georgia could take back those 2 losses and play Carolina and Tennessee today. G

AP and Coaches polls just leapfrogged LSU and Oklahoma over Georgia to keep the ‘Dogs at 4th. No word yet on Harris or BCS.
That’s not right. Peter Schrager has an excellent article on MSN FoxSports in support of Georgia getting a title shot. He writes, “If the system settles these arguments on paper as opposed to on the field, then the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs should move to No. 2 when the previous 1 and 2 ranked teams go down. In a world clouded in grey, UGA’s the black and white (or red) option for the No. 2 slot. Want to settle this with numbers, math and science? With reason and objectivity? Then UGA’s the only way to go.”
Well said. I hope the BCS system is friendlier to Georgia than the AP and Coaches were.

Rivals has an ongoing online poll at their site asking who should play Ohio St (funny that’s a given before the vote)for the very flawed, very mythical, national title.UGA is way out front of second place LSU 48% TO 29%.I think in the end it won’t matter. This will be decided by parrotting group think numb nutts influenced by Less Miles shameless lobbying all last week.I’ve heard too many talking heads repeat word for word Miles arguement, lazy, unoriginal b*******.

I see all you Georgia fans crying about you deserve a shot at the national title. Every season you always drop a game or two that, on paper, you should win. Handle your business during the regular season, stop talking about that national championship 27 years ago, and maybe you’ll be in contention someday for a national championship. Georgia, you always have a good team, but when are you ever going to be a great team. No more excuses!

The AP poll is out LSU is 2nd UGA 4rd behind Oklahoma. The media clowns have spoken, this is how the BCS will look tonight.I have very little doubt the highest we can finish after the bowls, regardless of how we or any other team plays is where we were coming into this weekend.
