UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Believe it or not, national title within reach

Well, here we are in Week 13 of the college football season and, remarkably, Georgia is sitting at No. 7 in the BCS rankings and No. 6 in the AP poll. Now let’s hear it, who among you saw that coming?

I didn’t. I thought it was possible the Bulldogs could lose as few as two games (I thought three was more realistic) but I never dreamed they would be in this position — Eastern Division champions with SEC and national championships still within their reach.

That’s right; I said national championship. Now let me preface this with, I don’t expect Georgia to either play for and certainly not win the national title. Heck, I don’t even think it’s going to make it to the SEC title game. But, the point it, it IS a possibility.

Don’t think so? Here’s how:

— Kentucky beats Tennessee Saturday to put Georgia in the SEC championship game, and the Dogs beat Georgia Tech to finish the regular season 10-2.

— No. 2 Kansas loses to Missouri this weekend, then Missouri loses to Texas or Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game.

— No. 3 West Virginia (9-1) loses to Connecticut (9-2) in Morgantown on Saturday (I know, this one is a real stretch). The Mountaineers still have Pittsburgh (4-6), too.

— No. 6 Arizona State loses to Southern Cal or Arizona in the next two weeks.

— Georgia beats No. 1 LSU in the Dome to earn the right to meet Ohio State for the BCS national championship.

Crazy as it sounds it’s definitely not beyond the realm of possibility. Here’s the kicker: Just think, if the Dogs take care of business against South Carolina in Week Two then they’re probably already in the think of the national championship hunt.

You can bet that has crossed Mark Richt’s mind. In fact he admitted as much after this past Saturday’s win over Kentucky. He said he pulled out the game tape from the South Carolina the other day and scrolled through it again, “I guess because wanted to see all the plays we missed.”

But there’s nothing the Dogs can do about that now. All they can do is control what’s in front of them and, all of the sudden, all of those possibilities are pretty good. Even if Tennessee wins and they don’t get to the SEC championship, Georgia will be part of the BCS bowl package if it handles Tech on Saturday (that’s another story altogether). And don’t automatically pencil in the Dogs for the Sugar Bowl. President Adams himself was telling me this past Saturday that the Orange Bowl has a great interest in bringing the Georgia folks down to Miami. How would you like that?

OK, what would you say the odds are of the Dogs playing for the national championship? Should they get by Tech would you rather see them take on LSU in the SEC title game or cruise on into a BCS bowl (provided of course the Tigers beat Tennessee)? And if it came down to any of the BCS bowls, would you rather see Georgia in the SEC traditional Sugar Bowl or maybe the Orange or one of the others?

I would say all of those things can happen, except for West Virginia losing… they are playing good football right know… with that said, if somehow we do make it to the title game, I think we would match up extremly well with osu

In your dreams, pal. Tennessee is not going to lose to Kentucky. Every year you come out with this if someone beats someone, then someone beats someone else. Georgia is not that good a team. They beat Florida when Florida’s QB was hurt but Tennessee beat the everloving crap out of you. Even South Carolina beat you. Gear yourself up for next year, but then you’ll lose to someone insignificant.

What difference does it make anyhow? Georgia fans stink of cheap beer.

Chip, how about the Rose Bowl? If Ohio State gets bumped up to the championship game then the Big Ten slot for the Rose will be open. It has been awhile since UGA played there. Against Pac-10 champ. That would be a nice matchup. Orange would be nice too. As long as we get to play top ranked team any BCS bowl will be a showcase. Just beat TECH. Exterminate the Bess or all this is for naught. Bet Bobo is kicking his own a$$ for that SC game. Run the ball is all you had to do Mike, not throw it 45 times. But hey, we are where we are and this is one happy Bulldog.

I have been looking at the same scenario for a couple of weeks. Oregon and Oklahoma really helped us out this past week. I didn’t see those coming. We have to finish the drill and stomp the buggs Saturday and hope for the best with what we can’t control. Like every other Dawg, I can’t wait until next year. We will start the year in the top 5 and finish it #1. It’s great to be a Dawg!

It’d be nice to see UGA in the national championship but their opponent would be Ohio State. OSU versus anyone would be a bad title game. What I’d like to see is a rematch of UGA (the hottest team in the SEC) vs. West Virginia (the *horrible Big East conference’s winner). The game would be a lot closer than 2005’s Sugar Bowl but I doubt there would be a difference in outcome. Either way, I’m really praying for this to be the matchup. At the same time, not only could WVU beat LSU but Kansas and Missouri could, too. Either way you look at, the SEC will not have a team win the national title this year (unless they play Ohio State). It will be interesting to hear what the excuses are for this one (they were beat up, they had a down game, etc.) I am really praying that an SEC team is in the championship vs. either WVU, Missouri, or Kansas…

I would love to see the Dawgs in another SEC title game. Secondly, I think Georgia has more than a punchers chance in beating LSU. Miami or New Orleans will be great for the Dawg nation, because after the Tenn. game we thought we were going the the toliet bowl. Thank our lucky stars we have a great coach in CMR and No-No running the ball. Go Dawgs!!!!!

The possibilites are limitless in this crazy football season…but a more likely prediction is Georgia getting an “at large” BCS bid. What scares me about playing a Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, is that they have NOTHING to lose but we would have EVERYTHING to lose…. By the way- since we’re in the futuristic mode- have anyone looked at next years schedule?? Wow…At USC, AT a surprisingly good ASU, ‘Bama and UT at home and then AT LSU, AT UF in Jax, AT Kentucky and AT Auburn. WHOA!!??!! Let’s dream about the possibilities of running the table with THAT schedule!

Too many variables to worry about other than beating Tech. LEt’s focus on that and maybe we’ll get lucky down the road, but that requires a lot of help from a a lot of other teams.

The Dogs might not even need West Virginia to lose. If the Dogs get to the SEC title game and knock off a number one L.S.U., Georgia could leap Ohio State (who has finished playing). Voters might also be influenced by the Buckeyes horrible performance in last year’s national title game. Following your assumptions, Chip, if ASU loses, and the Big 12 round robin plays in Georgia’s favor, it could be a UGA, West Virgina national title game..a rematch of the Sugar Bowl (the one that was played at the Georgia Dome because of Katrina).

Haha. This is great. I love the delusion. If this, if that. If Vandy hadn’t fumbled on the 10 yard line you would be in the Independence bowl. Congrats on your nice little roll, but come on. WV is not exactly playing good ball. They squeaked by a bad Lville team and didn’t exactly look great in beatinbg Cincy. This does not mean they won’t beat UConn but anything is possible. I don’t think there were many who saw the OR of OK loss.

Our biggest issue is getting UK to step up. If that happens, who knows.

Our best hope for the national title game was dashed saturday when michigan failed to knock off ohio state. However, I do think Kentucky has a great chance to beat tennesee and put us in the sec championship game. But even if that doesn’t happen we get a bcs bowl which is going to be a nice consolation prize. After getting crushed by Tennessee I will admit that I was one who thought our season was down the drain. If this team wins out it will be one of my all time favorites for circling the wagons the way they did after the tennessee game. As far as which bowl game I prefer it will always be the sugar bowl over all unless we play for the national championship.

There’s nothing worse than seeing a bunch of Tennessee fans on a message board gloating their charity W against the DAWGS after TN was coming off their “vacation” bye week when they were at home getting rested and sitting around with their “a little more than chubby” coach eating Doritos and waiting for that mid-October weekend when the greatest reason that those 107,000 fans have to scream is the same reason why they wear those horrid outfits to Neyland….and yes, you guessed it - Hunting season is officially opened!!!

Hey Smelly Dawg and Krappy… Your Vols may BACK into the SEC Championship but they will and I repeat they will get beat by LSU. You know it and the whole world knows it. Besides I know the Vols took us to the woodshed back on October 6th but we have are alot better now. Not to mention we did beat FLA and Alabama. Hmmm… I don’t think the Vols did that! And who the hell cares if Tebag was hurt or not. What does that manner? Last time I checked Tebag does not play on Defense. After you lose to LSU make sure you get your hotel reservations back in the ATL for the Chicken Bowl. We will be in the BCS at the Sugar Bowl! See ya next year Rocky Flop!!!!

This year … ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is possible!!! I’ve been thinking this for a couple of weeks now, and who would have thought Oklahoma and Oregon would have lost last week (both QBs go down). Kentucky, At Home, beat LSU, and played Florida tough. Tenneessee should have lost to Vandy this past weekend. Anything can happen. Arizona State WILL lose to USC. I think I prefer Missouri losing to Kansas this week, then we’ll move up to #5 this week (over Arizona St and Missouri), then after we beat #1 LSU and Kansas loses to Oklahoma or Texas … we’ll jump over both of them, and pray that (a) West Virginia loses or (b) Georgia somehow overtakes Ohio State in the polls (who has Ohio State played that is good this year, outside of Illinois … maybe Michigan … Wisconsin is SOOOO over-rated). Georgia will have beat #1 LSU and another top ten team … Florida.

A guy can dream, right?

Please God, let us go out to Tempe, AZ, where the best looking females on the western side of the Mississippi River reside (we all know where they live on the eastern side… ATHENS!)!

Can you imagine it, fellow Bulldog Nationers? A week of fun, sun, golf, and some of the most beautiful co-eds this side of Athens, GA?

I think I call that heaven!

Who’s with me? I love Nawlins, and I love to see the sUGAr falling from the sky, but I think this year, it would be nice to see some tortilla chips falling from the sky! And, why not throw in a day at Vegas just for the hell of it?

Come on Dawgs, we should want to be Fiesta Bowl bound.

And Chip, it doesn’t matter what the Orange wants. If LSU goes to the BS Championship Game, then the Sugar gets the first pick, and who do you think they’re going to pick? They will pick the hottest team in all the land, the team playing the best football regardless of won-loss records, the team from the S-E-C!

So, while I have dreams of beautiful, tanned, blonde senioritas in Arizona, I know I am headed towards some exotic, voodoo woman named Phyllis in Nawlins.

The odds? Not too good, but it’s fun to play the “what if” game. Personally, I think UK has a very good chance to knock off UT, and I think the ‘Dogs will be able to handle Tech in fine fashion. I hope UGA can make it to the SECCG - that’s a realistic hope. Can Georgia beat LSU? Yes. Will they? Your guess is as good as mine.

At the UK game on Saturday, I spotted a well-dressed gentleman wearing a “Sugar Bowl” blazer with special stadium credentials, so I assume he’s a Sugar Bowl official.

Seeing UGA play in the Sugar Bowl will be quite satisfying to me. If the ‘Dogs rise to bigger and better things in the fashion illustrated by Chip in this article, I’ll be ecstatic.

Go Wildcats! Go Dawgs! Go Tigers (Missouri, that is)! Go Longhorns! Go Sooners! Go Huskies! Go Panthers! Go Trojans! Go Wildcats (Arizona)!

This has truly been the season of upsets. Anything’s possible.

First and foremost - BEAT TECH SILLY!!!

That being said, can’t wait to see how many of you vol fans are still yappin’ when you lose on Saturday, or when LSU spanks you. I know many LSU fans who are desperately hoping Woodson gets the flu this weekend. They openly admit they want no part of UGA right now.

But back to Chip’s question:

The only thing I’ll say is this - any self-respecting Dawgs fan who is hoping to get in the back door of the BCS, should check his jock strap. Every year, the goal is an SEC title. You can’t get the SEC trophy sittin’ at home watching the great fat pumpkin rome the sideliines of the GA Dome - OUR HOME!! So slap yourself for being so Dumb and root for the Wildcats on Saturday from 1:30 until 3:30. Let’s beat Tech, get to the Dome, beat the #1 team in the nation and then walk through the FRONT door of the BCS!

I do not think it will matter bc I think the homos from Ga tech will beat the pups but even if they dont and even if UGA beats LSU in the SEC championship game it would be the biggest sham in the history of college football if a team with two losses makes it to the national championship game. When UT loses this weekend UGA will have lost to 2 UNRANKED teams, 1 at home and 1 by 21 points. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????????????? A team losing to 2 unranked teams playing in the national championship????????????????????? If this were to happen the BCS would be at the lowest point it could ever be at. Just for everyone’s information. If TN takes care of business this Saturday they go to the SECC to play LSU. The reperesent the SEC East because they have the tie-breaker win over us. But we can claim co-champs of the East because of the same record. Just like the old days before the championship when we would tie with someone else and both would claim the SEC title but only one could go to the Sugar Bowl. I believe in 76 both us and Bama had the same record but we went to the Sugar because of not being there longest, weird rule back then.

It’s so strange to see more “other” fans on this blog. I have never even read a headline for a tech blog or any other school. Why would you want to read about other people’s team? I guess its like playing video games online, you can be big and bad when you don’t have to look at people and say this stuff. I think its a reach for the Dawgs to wind up in the BCS championship but its fun to dream. I know I tried to figure out what would have to happen. We would only have a shot if everyone lost and we played Ohio St. We aren’t going to jump the other teams. I also like the comment about “if vandy wouldnt have fumbled 10 times” from the tennessee fan. Tennessee people should be sending flowers to the guy who bumped their kicker and let them come back from a 24-9 score. Go Dawgs! Beat tech! Actually we dont need West Virgina to lose. If all that stuff happens except WV losing, when we beat LSU in the SECCG that will bump us up over Ohio State who is idle the rest of the way. Out of sight out of mind. If it comes down to it voters will remember the showing OSU put on last year vs an SEC school. UGA vs WV for the National Title!!

GEORGIA FANS,PAY ATTENTION: The black out shows fans, even the older ones, how much fun games are when everyone yells and claps.Against UK,the crowd seemed louder than usual,-excluding the blackout-even section 106 started to yell more[except me I always yell as loud as I can].I think UGA should do six things differently next year though to create a better home field advantage: 1]Give all students, who want tix, tix,and let them fill up each endzone, I think that would give all students the will to be really early to games also they could be LOUD.Do not cram students who pay tons of tuition money in the upper decks,at Alabama, I went to that game, the students filled a big area of the lower deck and they were very loud. [2]Keep the “It’s Saturday” thing, it is awesome, but bring back “I’m Georgia”-Ben Watson got me super crunk on the big screen! [3]Every away time-out,play review, and some commercial time-outs,the cheerleaders should start the GEORGIA—-BULLDAWGS stadium cheer.During away time-outs,this would distract the away team’s focus during the time-out,and get UGA some momentum. [3]I love the fourth quarter video, but instead of “Here comes the boom”, the PA should play “Who let the dogs out”.I think this would be crazy, the whole stadium could join in the barking parts of the song. [4]Crank the Soulja Boy at least twice during the games, even though next year the song’s popularity will not be as high, it will still get people crunk. [5]When the band plays before and DURING game, the crowd should all join in the cheers,we all know them, so join in.The stadium did respond to the band pretty well the last two games, but next year, let’s up the response! [6]Fans should strive to make kick-off,and DAWG FANS SHOULD NEVER LEAVE EARLY!! Also, let’s start a new tradition of blacking out at least one game a year.No other school consistantly does a blackout, and no dawg fan can diagree that the electricity was extra high and that the black uni’s were sweet! These six things are fairly simple to do,and if UGA can do these six things, Between the Hedges can be up there with Death Valley at LSU.What Dawg fan does not want Sanford Stadium to be considered one of the loudest venues in college football?!

gdawginkalamazoo

The final score and yardage do not tell the story and I can’t even commend your effort because the stats you pulled are weak. In case you don’t remember, this was the storyline:

UGA = SEC Champion (i.e., the most superior conference; bottom feeder SEC schools such as Vandy & Ole Miss would win any other conference; the SEC champ should be given a first round bye in the NFL playoffs, etc.)

West Virginia = Big East Champion (reading Big East Champion still makes you laugh, huh?)

You know exactly what I’m referencing. Nobody in Dawg Nation gave WVU a chance in h3ll to beat them, correct? If there were a rematch, I doubt WVU would jump out to a lead like that again. The game would be more back & forth throughout its entirety. I still believe that WVU would win but theres only one way to find out. Your points and yardage argument would only be relevant if UGA played the Patriots. They did not. They played an “inferior” West Virginia team and again, I hope they meet again…I hope they meet again.

By dig003

November 19, 2007 3:54 PM | Link to this

Only in a season like this could a team like UGA make the title game.. definitely a possibility tho as WVU is definitely flawed and the big12 teams are untested and could beat each other up. Tennessee is mediocre and certainly could lose to Kentucky, and USC is still USC so ASU will probably be the underdog.

You say “what if” UGA beat the Cocks but the dags were lucky beat Vandy & Bama [and the Tebow/UF D-line injuries], so that road goes both ways. Be happy that that UGA is in the position they’re in because they’ve gotten a lot of help, and will probably get some more…

I worked through the permutations as soon as UGA beat UK. Possible, but not probable. The real nightmare scenario is that OSU might get another chance to get the s* kicked out of them (again) by an SEC team after waltzing through another pansy season. Why don’t those guys get punished for their tepid strength of schedule? And what is up with the childish “first!” crap on this blawg? Grow up guys. GO DAWGS!

I’ll give Tennessee its due because they did beat us up pretty good, but when did they get so good? They should have lost to Vandy, could have lost to South Carolina, and got blown out by Cal (who has lossed at least 4 games), Florida, and Alabama (which is 6-5 and lost to Louisiana-Monroe). I’m not a lunatic Georgia fan, I think we have a good team that plays with lots of emotion, which hurts us too. This is also not the same team that lossed to Tennessee.

You guys are so full of crap your eyes are brown or is it yellow from the beer you are so full of. Who won between UGA and South Carolina? Wh won between UGA and Tennessee? Tennessee beat the ever loving crap out of you. That’s all that matters. Don’t say that one team beat another and we beat the one that won so we are better. Any given Saturday most any team, except Duke, can beat another. Tennessee beat Georgia, and Georgia beat Florida and Alabama so therefore Tennessee should have beat both Florida and Alabama. Doesn’t work like that. I hope Georgia enjoys the Toilet Bowl in Atlanta.

Anyone who thinks UGA is going to the SEC Championship Game must have never seen a Tennessee football game. There is no way they lose to Kentucky. I mean in the final 8 minutes alone there was a non-call on a block in the back on a punt return that set up the go ahead field goal and a non call on pass interference that left Vandy trying to win on a 49 yard field goal. Tennessee is the luckiest freaking team in the country.

The bottom line is….. if LSU goes to BCS title game THEY (Sugar bowl) will have first pick and I feel certain they will pick UGA. Our only chance at another- better bowl is if Tennessee wins SEC and goes to Sugar or LSU loses o Arkansas and wins SEC and goes to Sugar. The worst part about sugar is, after LSU replacement pick, they pick DEAD last of all bowls.

For everyone who would rather UT go to SEC game instead of us (solidifying a BCS for us…assuming a win over GT) I propose we just leave the SEC and go to ACC so we can play in BCS annually.

I don’t think I’ll be talking about the NC, but more about the fact that UK could beat UT and put us in the SECCG. UK has the balance on offense to move the ball and their D is improved. Hopefully they will break the 22 year drought. I will not be talking about the GT game either because everyone (including Tech fans) knows the Dawgs are going to smack the sh&t out of them. However things turn out, this is going to be an exciting College Football weekend. One of the best weekends of football in a long time. So many teams have so much to gain and lose. First, I think Tennessee some how pulls out a win against KY. They have simply too much riding on this game to lose. I like Kentucky’s chances because they are at home and they would love to end the drought against TN but I don’t think it’s going to happen. But who cares. Would love to be in the SEC Championship but Georgia needs to take care of Tech to open other BCS Bowls possibilties such as the Orange Bowl. I hear there is some interest for the Dogs. It would be nice to see the Dogs down in Miami against say West Virginia. A chance the avenge the lost in the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta a few year back. Plus, it would be a great matchup. Two teams who are really playing well right now.

But I believe that if Georgia takes care of Tech and TN loses and Georgia gets to the SEC title game and beat LSU with them still #1. They’re may be a chance that Georgia could jump some teams even with 2 loses because of the impact of the title game and the fact they beat the #1 team in the nation to do it. That has to carry some weight with BCS committee.

Gavin, we gave them a chance in hell to beat us. Still don’t know where you are coming from regarding the game, let me guess, left field. So say they beat us 10-7 instead of 38-35. Or say 58-55? You evidently remember only the first 18 minutes of the game and not the rest of it. Fact of the matter is that WVU blew a 28 point lead, most of it during the second quarter when we put up 21 points. If not for being outcoached on special teams (the fake punt) that game would have, either been lost by WVU or sent into overtime (which of course could have gone either way and probably not ours the way White&Slaton were playing). So to you only the first 18 minutes of a game count? It was just unfortunate for us that we were the one who helped to display the very talented and awesome duo of White and Slaton to the country on a big stage. As everybody has witnessed those two guys and the supporting cast ARE a very good football team as has been indicated by the rankings the last couple of years. I won’t deny that one bit.

I’m with you Chip. There are many possiblities that would put us in the national title mix, and Tennessee is dangling by a thread to put us back in the SEC championship.Over the last two weeks Oklahoma, Oregon and Ohio State have lost games that they should’ve won, so there’s nothing that will surprise me at this point. Actually, if Kentucky loses to Tenessee, I’ll be surprised. Regardless though, if we take care of business and win out, this team has far exceeded my preseason expectations. GO DAWGS!

You need to be concerned about kentucky this weekend or maybe that 37th ranked recruiting class you have coming in next season. On second thought the peach bowl might be aiming to high for what tennessee will encounter in the future.

If TN loses and Georgia beats GT and goes to the SEC title game and beat LSU as the #1 team in the nation. Georgia jumps everyone except Kansas if they win out and Ohio State. doesn’t matter if everyone else wins out.

Georgia will be at number 5 in the BCS by the time they get to SEC title game if all the scenarios plays out. Big East and PAC Ten, you need to get some more teams and get a league championship game. Winning Champoinships in League play especially in the SEC carries some weight when you beat the #1 team in the nation that plays in the same conference. Don’t start complaining WV and ASU if GA jumps you in the polls. But I think Ohio St. sticks though.

Is it just me, or does the thought of going to New Orleans not really get you as excited as it did 20 or 30 years ago? That city is a dump.

I think the interesting thing about the TN v. KY game is that it is all depending upon who screws up less. Both teams have the talent and capability to smash the other, but both teams seem to lack the desire to win at times. The Dawgs have proven that desire is more than half of it.

I also would like to see what all has to happen for Tech to make it to the Boise State Bowl again. Maybe about ten to fifteen teams need to lose ahead of Tech, and perhaps Tech could get lucky and keep it within 21 against the Dawgs. I think it is a stretch, but this has been a crazy year in college FB.

Hey Dawgs and non Dawgs, chill out. It’s a game for goodness sake. Ky won’t beat Tenn because the Cats are used up and Tenn is healthy and has something real to play for, but the Vols don’t have the goods to match up with the Tigers. Also, GA has the best weapons to go against LSU, but we are short in size, strength, and experience. Besides, be honest, we all expected 7 and 5 this year, so lets go to a BCS bowl, and to hell with what everyone else thinks or does. As a side, we have the best coaching staff in the NCAA, and this team is their best work. Go Dawgs, Beat Tech.

First…..Beat the hell outta Tech and lets go for style points.

Second….Should we get to play LSU and win…that alone might kick us up to numero 2.

Third…..Its like most anyother top SEC team…put us in national championship vs OSU and we beat hell outta them just like FL did last year. They are the ones who suck!!!

Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat Tech,Beat the crap out of Tech

and let the football gods sort the rest out.If we are in the SECCG great. If we are in the Sugar Bowl,Great. The Orange Bowl great.Tempe or Pasadena, great.

As for you Tenn fans, you need to shut the hell up.Georgia was suppose to be in a rebuilding year. This was “suppose” to be Tenn year with Ainge a sr. and all the so called talent and you guys get blown out in three games.Even by Alabama. If not for “two missed field goals” you would be 6-5 right now.Bottom line this has to be one of the most disappointing years for the Vols in some time. But Crisco Fulmer will be back to lead you to a 6-6 season next year.Still I predict you will beat Kentucky when they miss a last second field goal, you will be hammered by LSU, and get hammered in your Bowl game to end at 9-5.Congrats on such a “successful” season.

But we will have beaten the scuz from North Avenue 7 years in a row.And that is just damn sweet.Since Richt has been out of character this year…Mark continue the trend, and run the damn score up on them.Hang half a hundred!

Go Dawgs! And to Hell with you know who!

I can’t quite understand this let Tennessee win crap. What a bunch of BS.

First, we need to focus totally on Tech. We should definitely beat them but in this year anything can happen. People who don’t think so need to look at what has happened.

Second, we need to hope UK can beat the Vols because OUR FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT goal should be getting to the SEC title game. If the Vols win, then fine, we can probably go to a BCS game. But that should not be our preference. Sure we would be a significant underdog to the Tigers, but then again, we were in 2005. I for one do not want to see Phil in Atlanta until the Chick Filet Bowl.

If we make it to the title game and lose to LSU, so be it. Then we can go to Orlando and take on the Illini, but we should never avoid the challenge of the SEC title game.

Nascar fan you are a complete MORON. Let me fill you in on your question. LSU’s two losses last year were to 2 top ten teams one of which won the national championship. Both were on the Road as well. Who have the pups lost to this year. Lets look at USC first. 6-5 and 3-5 in the SEC. In fact if they do not beat Clemson this weekend they might not even make a bowl game. That game was lost AT HOME and obviously the cocks are not ranked. Next lets look at UT. 8-3 with a 2 toucdown loss, a 39 point loss, and a 24 point loss. How did the pups fair against this team you ask???? Oh yea a abosulte beatdown blowout of 21 points. After they lose to Kentucky this weekend they too will be unranked and will have 4 losses. That means Uga will have lost to 2 unranked teams , one of them at home, and one of them by 3 touchdowns. To compare that with LSU’s losses last year is just utterly absurd my friend.

Chip, there is waaaaaay to much what if scenarios on your blog lately. One game at a time, please. We just need to focus on beating Tech…that is the only thing we can control. Let’s just be thankful we are not ranked #2 right now…because that’s a death trap.

Chip ‘Research’ Towers: Your insults aside, Georgia HAS on the SEC East title. With its win over Kentucky it is assured at least a tie with Tennessee. Should the Vols win Saturday, which you clearly expect them to do, then the Bulldogs would SHARE the SEC East championship with the Vols. The Vols then would REPRESENT the East in the SEC Championship Game based on their head-to-head win over Georgia. But the East title is and always be SHARED. Both teams even get a trophy… . Got it smart man?

Who says that if all these things happen that we wouldn’ JUMP Ohio State in the polls?! Ohio State can’t gain points when they’re idol and if the Dawgs take care of business by swatting Tech and beat #1 LSwho in the championship game then they would leap past the Bucks to possibly play West VA. A rematch to avenge our sleep walk 2 years ago.

Vols, you are in a fortunate position but everyone in the nation knows what matchup they want to see come December 2. Search your mindless cavities and you may find the truth. If you guys would’ve faced us any other Saturday you would be exposed for your mediocrity.

Let’s talk blowouts. Try the two hapless teams that destroyed you like Alabama and Cal hanging 40+ on your coon skins. Our Florida putting 60… that’s right 60 on you!!

Wow! This is quite some dialog! First the UGA fans were about to give up on the season after the beatdown by the Vols. Last year 2 good sec teams lost to 2 Big ten teams. UGA fans and Vols fans your team would get beat by at least 10 to 20 teams this year. UGA fans should count their blessing you have a RB from New Jersey who has brought some fire to this college who has not won or been in the NC game in 27 years. You would think with all this talent you would at least go to the championship every 3 to 5 years.

I don’t realistically see us in the NC game. Too much alignment in the heavens has to happen. Good shot at the SEC championship game however. The DAWGS are the best team in the east right now and gives the East the best shot to beat LSU. Tennessee is deserving to go however as they waxed us pretty good in Knoxville.

I think the final polls will decide who the better team is. I like where we sit.

For the poster who fears Hawaii, there are probably 5 SEC teams that could beat Hawaii. Watch them fall against Boise State next weekend.

Nice post Chip on sharing the East Title with Tennessee. Unfortunatly, one has to appear in the championship game to win the overall title.

By Ohiostatebuckeye

November 19, 2007 6:28 PM | Link to this

I actually like the UGA but I hope someday you will play for a NC game. SEC schools do not play any teams outside of the SEC. Auburn played USC 2 yrs in a row and lost and they were the best SEC team during those years. LSU got a co-championship because they did not play a top team in their bowl game. When are the SEC teams going to get a major bowl victory. Trust me if Ohio State can compete in the SEC! You only have 1 very good team and 2 good teams. Tenn,Auburn,Vandy,Kentucky is average at best!

By jason

You forget that if we make it to the SEC championship game and win, that win would push us in front of Ohio State. ASU will lose to USC, Texas or OU will beat whoever comes out of the BIG 12 North. So it would be West Virginia and UGA, not a bad matchup.

About if the dawgs played in the ACC (“they’d be in BCS every year”)

Enjoy Blacksburg. It’s beautiful country up there.

The U down in South Florida isn’t going to be lousy every year.

There’s a crowd down at FSU that would just love to see the dawgs.

I think Death Valley would enjoy hosting a doggie BBQ.

And then there’s still the Jackets. Unless I’ve lost count, I believe that the most recent Nat’l Championship in the State of Georgia came courtesy of GA Tech.

Try it.

Tybee we did beat them 21-0. But back then if you tied the one that had not been there the longest went to the championship. The funny thing is they changed that to the committee could pick the top ranked team when in 1979 we lost about all out of conference games but won all in conference except for Auburn at Auburn I think, lotta dead brain cells. We were a 6-5 team, if we would have won, a 7-4 team would have been in the Sugar.

I do have a serious question however to you “When are SEC teams going to get a major bowl victory.” We have a lot of animosity toward our Gator bretheren, but I do believe they hung a pretty good one on you guys in the NC game last year. I wasn’t aware that the NC game has been demoted to a minor bowl.

The SEC does pretty good in major bowls. We win some and we lose some. But we’ve had our fair share of national championships spread among several very good SEC schools, including Tennessee. And as far as Vandy, Kentucky, etc, they can beat anyone on a given day.

Check your conference top to bottom and see if you see as much depth as the SEC.

To the Georgia Football Team, Coach Richt and Staff;

Please put away all of this premature nonsense of who will go where, and what ifs, and if only this and that. You are playing a football game Saturday against your most bitter rival. Their coach is on the ropes and his players know it. Their Seniors are tired of having their faces rubbed in criticisms of their mediocrity. They will be ready to play.

The last time we faced an opponent where the context was similar, they undressed our butts on National Television. (see UT 2007)

The last time we played a game under reversed circumstances, we ended a teams BCS hopes (see Auburn 2006).

You had damn well better take these guys seriously right now or you can add yourselves to the growing roster of top 10 teams beaten by an unranked opponent.

I’m rootin hard for you but get ready to play. Remember, nothing puts the fire back into a rivalry like the underdog sucker punching the favorite and binging him back to reality. Or has everyone forgotten the Florida game?

LSU beat more higher ranked teams last year than have the pups this year. They beat #5 Arkansas, # 8 UT, and #11 ND in the Sugar bowl. You are right the pups did beat Auburn and Florida for the first time in a billion years this year. You UGA fans sure do brag a lot about a win over a team that is not even ranked in the top 25. And for Florida. They are an average football team when they have Tim Tebow who accounts for 75 % of their offense and yet when yall played them he was playing at less than 75 %. So yalll beat an average team without 75% of its offense playing at full speed. CONGRATS. You are right the pups have just had many huge great wins this year. IDIOT. I guess I am jealous that the pups can beat teams that are not even ranked. I guess I am just jealous of the pups being able to beat mediocre football teams and their players and fans acting like they have won the national championship after every win. UGA=the new Miami. Hey General, I like you and have your back, but man, you guys are 3 1/2 point underdogs to Kentucky.

So far, yeah, you beat us. But we beat the teams that smoked you, which I think is a better barometer for how Georgia is now as a football team.

You better stop counting your chickens, because even if you do happen to luck out against Kentucky, we will got the sUGAr Bowl, while you will get killed by LSU and wind up in the Outback or Peach Bowls.

No matter what, General, we’re going to a better Bowl than you are, and you know what, that’s all that really matters.

Also, next year we’ll be ranked in the top-5 if not top-3.

Think about it, it should be us, Florida, Ohio State, WVU, and Oklahoma in the top-5. Where will Tennessee be? Not even ranked, because you are losing everything and everyone.

And this was supposed to be yet another rebuilding year for us, and we’re more than likely headed to a BCS Bowl with a shot to win the SEC.

I say that’s awesome, but 2008 will be even better! And I love all these morons who come on our boards and say that Georgia won’t be any better than 3rd or 4th in the East from here on out.

JEALOUSY or STUPIDITY I don’t know. But statements like that just prove those people’s IGNORANCE, and provide gales of laughter for those of us who actually know anything about football.

First of all NASCARFan I’m not a jealous fan of another team. I’m rooting for Georgia to make it to a BCS game (maybe championship game). I just want it to come the ‘honest way’. Here is the main difference I see between this UGA team and 2006 LSU, 1999 Tennessee, and 2001 Florida teams (all three went to a BCS bowl without appearing in the SEC champ. game)

First, I think the SEC is down this year which can’t be overlooked. Second, in those other teams cases they actually beat one of the teams playing in the game. Now many will argue that Georgia COULD beat either of those teams if given a chance and I wouldn’t argue but the fact remains that UGA got pasted by Tennessee and won’t have a chance to prove themselves against LSU if Kentucky doesn’t win this week.

Think of it in these terms if UGA beats Tech (a done deal!) and Tennessee beats Kentucky (almost certain) UGA will be 10-2 but will not have done enough to go to the Sugar Bowl. Why? Because if Tenn. wins SEC Champ. They go to Sugar Bowl and most likely bump UGA to a New Years day bowl. It will be as if UGA will be rooting for LSU to do what they couldn’t do for themselves. Whereas those other teams were almost certain to go to a BCS bowl regardless of the outcome in the championship game (LSU may have been questionable had Arkansas won the championship but Florida and Tennessee were pretty solid locks) And I would define that as ‘backing in’

The problem with this scenario is that it requires Georgia to leap past a one-loss team. (Kansas cannot finish with more than one loss in any scenario.) Even if Kansas loses to Missouri, I would be surprised if they fell past Georgia. Only if Missouri absolutely blows their doors off would it be a possibility.

honsestly, how do you tech fans expect to beat uga when just last week your defense gave up almost 300 yards passing to UNC’s mediocre freshman quarterback TJ Yates… Matt Stafford will TORCH Tech’s mediocre secondary…yes, tech has a good defensive coordinator in john tenuta, but the talent is just not there… uga will score close to fifty points on techs defense… i am a little worried about tashard choice, and john nesbitt is also starting to look good, but unless tech can score close to fifty, uga will win comfortably in a game that will be pretty close to a uga home game… it seems that tech fans have already given up on their season and coach… who by the way took yall to the acc championship game last year… i guess won average season for tech requires the firing of a coach… dumbest thing yall ever did was get rid of oleary… ya sure he fudged his resume, but he atleast won games and beat us… GO DAWGS

Once again, JEALOUS George is hanging around our boards, the boards of a team he professes to hate, and he still won’t tell us who his team is.

If it’s the Bugs, he has no room to speak.

If it’s LSU, if I remember correctly, the last two times we played them, we destroyed them, once for an SEC Championship we weren’t supposed to win (history will repeat itself if Tennessee loses).

If it’s Florida, well, we beat the crap out of you. In the last four games, we’re 2-2 (since y’all like to play the short-term memory game and only remember what’s happened since 1990). And if you take into account all of the history and not that since 1990, we still have the all-time wins lead, we still have more SEC Championships, and we still are either tied or have more National Championships if you count our three shared titles, like Tech, the Trojans, and the Tide always do.

If it’s the War Tigles, we’ve smoked you two straight years, and Richt is 4-3 against you.

If it’s the Vols, yeah, you beat us. Congrats. We’re still going to a better, more high profile Bowl than y’all and Richt is still 4-3 against Fat Phil. And your orange is the ugliest of all oranges. Which is really saying something.

Yeah Smelly Dawg! Florida’s quarterback was “hurt” but he doesn’t play defense. Yeah Georgia lost to the Turnipseed Ballinqueers this year but we have beat the pants off everybody else your team wasn’t man enough to beat.

You play to win championships.

It would be better to be playing for the SEC championship, even if we lost.

You don’t worry about the other stuff, you just focus on getting into the spot to play for a championship.

Play LSU or anyone else. I am in favor of a strong schedule. So many small factors, like a bit of luck go into winning a NC, that you can’t predict it. You can lose to Vandy as quickly as Ohio St.,(Note, ask AL about last weekend). I assure you GA would win more than they lose. Remember only 2 teams a yr. can play for the NC. Unfortunately, even with the BCS formula, it is flawed when you lose more than 2 games, so you get some supposed breathers to pad the Win Column.

Like mentioned before, this year was supposed to be a rebuilding year of sorts. What happened was GoSHON made his presence felt and things changed. UGA fans should feel good about this team, this season and the strides they made. They’re peaking at the right time (Troy aside)and still have alot to play for….more then any of us expected realistically.

As for the interloping Tennessee and G-Tech fans here. You clowns can have fun at the San Diego County Retirement Board Poinsettia Bowl So bring your protractors, moonshine and all of your teeth (no doubt in your pockets) and play “tummy sticks ” with each other. The rest of us have a real bowl to look forward to. P.S.I heard at half time the entertainment was going to be provided by GT’s favorite on campus hip-hop star….E=MC-Squared. You guys suck!

I knew a home once named Chip…hmmm, I wonder??? Anyway sorry to bust the bubble of all you knuckle-dragging, mullet-wearing, sister-marrying Jawja fans. Here is the scenario you will see within the next few weeks! 1. UT beats KY 2. UT plays in the SECCG 3. UT upsets LSU 4. LSU gets the “at large” BCS bowl bid. 5. UT plays in the Sugar Bowl and wins. 6. UGA gets to play in the Ga Dome for the Chicken-Fil-A Bowl and probably loses!! LMBOAO!!!

Yes, it COULD happen, but I think finishing number 3 or 4 is more likely, along with the Dawgs meeting LSU in the Dome. UT has looked like a high school team in big road games this year. No reason for them to stop now

Did you all see those really cute male UGA cheerleaders on TV at the Kentucky game? They have such big muscles and I just love those tight cheerleading pants they wear. Its just too bad they have to stand next to those yucky girl cheerleaders. I get goosebumps just thinking about them!

This season has pretty much been a warmup for what is going to happen next season. The Dawgs are 9-2, no one gets in with 2 losses. The South Carolina that we played in September is definitely not the one that is 6-5 now. It seemed most likely that we could be in the number 2 or 3 position with even a loss to Tennessee, who right now is playing mediocre (but good) football. It’s not to say that this hasn’t been a successful season; #6 is an incredible position.

Stafford with 2 seasons under his belt, Knowshon being 2007-08 Freshman of the Year, Caleb King stepping on the field, 2 young but experienced lines, and the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation with 3 5-star recruits, Georgia is going to be in the national championship game next season. Don’t get your hopes up this season, save it for next season.

But as for this Saturday: Matthew Stafford, Mohammed Massaquoi, Sean Bailey, Knowshon Moreno, and Thomas Brown are going to rip up Tenuta’s defense. Hell even Tripp Chandler is going to tear it up. Then Bennett and Choice are going to come face to face plenty of times with Geno Atkins, Marcus Howard, and Rennie Curran. My prediction: Georgia 42-Tech 24. There is no doubt about a Georgia win.

The rundown: 1) Tennessee 21 Kentucky 24 2) Georgia SEC East Champions 3) #1 LSU vs. #4 Georgia in the SEC Championship. 4) #3 Georgia in the Sugar or Orange Bowl

Looking in my crystal ball, I see the Dawgs getting past Tech handily but with class. I see a clean game in order to pacify those whom would decry a celebration in the end zone. Those whom would believe that UT has a snowball’s chance against LSU are not to be bothered; rather they are to be treated with caution They are delusional and possibly dangerous. I foresee KY whipping the Vols in a thorough manner. I see a very close game between LSU and UGA in the dome with UGA winning by two points. Why two? Because that is what I see.

Sadly, I do not see the dawgs in the BCS. However, I see a gleeful Matt Stafford. Something tells me we’re into something good.

As for which bowl I would like to see us in that would be the BCS National Championship and if that doesn’t happen then I would like to see the Dawgs in the Rose Bowl because we haven’t played there since after the 1942 season when we beat UCLA 9-0.

Georgia is playing better than any team in the country right now and it may work out that they play in the title game, where they could easily beat Kansas, Oklahoma or West Virginia, who play in weak conferences and are way overrated by the media in love with the Big East and Big 12 conferences. UGA blew out florida and auburn and hopefully will get a chance to play for the title that is rightfully theirs.

By dawgsinmacon

The dawgs rule baby—-much better than kansas—-what a joke! UGA would blowout all those weak conference teams. If UGA doesn’t go to the BCS title game, they should be voted #1 anyway based on how they are playing right now. Tech? LOL!!! Ga will beat those losers by 50, easy.

Get Real!!

Tenn. will win the SEC, and you guys as usual will be playing second fiddle. You should be used to your role by now.

Mark Richt will never win a NC at UGA. You can etch that in stone!!

Great blog, Chip! … It’s unbelievable how many people in haven’t watched a lick of college football this year. If you think the Dawgs couldn’t possibly end up in the BCS title game, you’re dumb as a box of Tennessee fans. Stanford over USC? Arizona over Oregon? Illinois over Ohio State? UL-Monroe over Alabama? Texas Tech over Oklahoma? South Florida over Auburn? West Virginia? So, why not?

I doubt it will happen, but it could. If you’ve been paying attention this season, there’s only one thing for sure: Nothing is for sure.

And quit hatin’ on the Dawgs. It makes you jealous fans look like the pathetic losers that you are. Get a life!

Get off the kool-aid, there is NO WAY GA is in the championship game. You can NOT go to the championship game if you can’t even WIN YOUR DIVISION - TN WILL DO THAT, so what it that.

And let’s talk about the mighty SEC - They can’t even keep head coaches at the winning schools SEE Nick Saban and coming soon - Les Miles to 4 loss MICHIGAN. In other words, I’d rather be at MICHIGAN with FOUR L’s than stay at #1 LSU….Go figure…

I hope I don’t see any Gator’s respond to this thread. I think a 2 loss SEC team this year matches up very well with anyone in the country. Given the losses from top teams this year I think UGA has just as good a possibility of events unfolding in our favor as LSU or any other team except prolly WVU

National Championship? By the time we played the Vols I was just hoping that we could somehow come up with an upset of the gators… anything else was gonna be gravy for this year. A NC might be intersesting conversation, but I think we should just finish strong with Tech and the best bowl we can get, that should set us up for a respectable run at it next year, but as an Auburn poster said earlier, we will be in a lot of peoples’ sights next year… probably a pre-season top 5 ranking will make sure of that.

By Mash

First, I would like the chance to play LSU in the SEC Championship because I think that they can be beat.

But if Tenn goes as expected, I would rather go to the Orange or Fiesta this year simply because the Sugar Bowl is last in the pecking order. Meaning whoever is in the Sugar Bowl will get stuck playing Hawaii. Wheras the Orange or Fiesta would be able to provide a more compelling matchup.
