UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Dogs’ seniors call for ‘blackout’ on Saturday

Move over Penn State. The Georgia Bulldogs want a “blackout” for Saturday’s game against Auburn.

Penn State fans are famous for the “whiteouts” of the Nittany Lions’ home games. In other words, every fan in attendance wears white shirts and tops. Consequently the stands at Beaver Stadium are completely awash in white.

Well Georgia’s senior players have requested that the Bulldogs’ fans do the same thing except by wearing black. Head coach Mark Richt brought their wishes to the media gathered for his weekly news conference Tuesday at Stegeman Coliseum.

“The seniors are encouraging the Bulldog Nation to wear black on Saturday,” Richt said dutifully. “I asked them why and they said they thought it would be cool and it would show some unity between the team and the fans.”

Richt said a group of seniors brought the idea to him after practice on Monday. He said he asked them, “what do I tell everybody?” They said, “tell them it’s a sign of unity in the Bulldog Nation.”

“That’s why I’m wearing black today,” Richt quipped, “to get into the spirit.”

The trouble is, there’s not much time to get the word out. Traditionally Georgia fans wear red to games and, if they don’t have black Bulldog garb, will they be able to find it? So time is of the essence.

“It’s a quick turnaround but I hope all the fans get excited about it and do it,” Richt said.

Clearly there is some concern it won’t be pulled of properly:

Said senior tight end Tripp Chandler: “If it’s done right it can be pretty good but everybody’s got to commit to it. Everybody’s got to make sure whatever they bring is black. We can definitely pull it off. We’ve just got to get the word out.”

So there you go. I’m doing my part. What about you?

Are you gonna wear black to the game Saturday? Do you have something black to wear to the game? And do you see the whole movement as a distraction to what is obviously a huge game for both teams?

I love the idea. Problem is - the “blackout” is most effective at night, and this game starts at 3:30. Either way, I’ll but on my black and be ready to roll. Good for the Seniors to come up with some interaction with the bulldog nation!

I think black pants or jerseys would be a good idea. Something different and if it fires up the team then why not? I will be wearing black. To the Auburn fan who posted on here. Wear your orange so it blends with your red neck to the cow college that you support. Another reason for Dawg fans to hate orange. Auburn is the inbred capital of the world.

Black is what they want, black is what they get. I begged for this team to beat Florida. They did so and in fine fashion. If the Sr.s want a black out, then we should support them. If you don’t have black go out there and purchase yourself something in black. I have several to choose from including a black UGA polo so not an issue for me. Think of it as a little extra expense for the chance at ANOTHER trip to Atlanta the first of December. A trip that never gets old.

Sure seems like THUGA has to have a lot of “gimmicks” this year to get up for ball games and get excited.

I suspect that at 3:30 in the afternoon, Auburn’s players will be laughing at the site of a bunch of THUGA fans wearing all black in the heat of the day.

We’ll come in our usual mutt-beating white road uni’s. We’ll leave to THUGA to “accesorize”.

At 62F at kickoff and temps dropping through the night, I doubt that anyone is going to be suffering in the “heat” of the day.

I am for the black out by the fans, and I will be there in black, BUT don’t screw with the unis. They are traditional and good teams don’t need gimmicks like that…see Auburn’s Orange in 80 and NDs frequent ill advised use of green.

This reminds me of when South Carolina did the same thing for a game against Florida back in the 90s. Spurrier (coaching Florida then) commented after the game that the USC fans really helped the Gators out, because the black background made it really easy for the receivers to track the ball. This plan will backfire on the Dawgs the same way it backfired on the Gamecocks all those years ago.

Fire up the Johnny Cash (the Man in Black). Get your Men in Black DVD out. Black caps, black shirts, black jackets, black pants, black socks (permissible Saturday only), and black shoes, if available. You might want to get some dark sunglasses as well. We did it for Dooley and we’ll do it for the Dawgs. If the Dawgs come out jacked and win then it’s a great idea. If we lose, then we won’t have this discussion for another five - ten years. Of course, wasn’t it AC-DC, “Back in Black”. Make sure you have a clear poncho in case it rains. Where can we get some of those mega-afro wigs - maybe half-price after Halloween?

Im a big fan of the blackout, however I am not a big fan of changing the jersey. I like what Rhict said a while back about he wants people to know who they are watching on T.V. Georgia wears Red/Silver and White/Silver and they look good doing it. If they want us to wear black then we do it. The people who are saying they don’t want to wear black to the game are probably the same people who said going into Bama we would only win 3 games all year and that Stafford should be benched. Funny how the offense has put up big number the last couple of weeks with the increased snaps of Massaquoi, Bailey, and Moreno. I guess chemistry, timing, and knowing who is on the field is important after all go figure. The young line looks great and that is a good sign of things to come. Wow… where have all you Tiger losers been all year?

I remember you being persky sometime last year when your team was punching it’s ticket for the SEC Championship Game.

What happened? You disapeared about this time last year. What happened? And why are you back?

War Eagle, you better get a handle on your kinfolk, because they’re acting like a bunch of flaming fools on our board. Teach your plainsbilly realtives some manners, like you possess, War Eagle. Please. Because you know, they’re embarrassing you and reflecting poorly on your usual good taste and comradarie.

Can’t wait to see it and then see the stands half empty by halftime (though our orange and blue won’t show up as well then on TV).

P.S. Is there ANY idea that THUGA has ever come up with that was actually their OWN?????

You took Tiger Walk and tried to rip that off, and what you guys call doggy walk is atrocious and should be halted immediately.

Now you’re ripping off about half a dozen other schools’ tradition.

Good grief!!

Next thing you now you’re cheerleaders will be trying to throw uga off the upper deck of Samford and Son Stadium so he can fly around like Auburn’s NOVA does.

Auburn has so many great, original ideas like tiolet papering their own tree. I never understood why you deface your own property. Shouldn’t you roll Alabama’s tree instead of your own. Howdy, It is your beloved coach Tubaville hear bringing yall words of wisdom and vote of confeeidence. 1) Wear ya warm clothes cause it is gonna be a chill in the air. I have had special ear muffs made from frisbees lined in wool to keep my ears warm. I hope I do not look like deformed satelite dish on the sideline. I know I got big earers but I can not help it. 2) Awlburn fans wear ya blue and not orange. If yall wear orange the stadium is gonna look like halloween mixed with all that black. Matt Stafford done took us trick or treating last year if you have not forgotten. 3) Dont youins worry about that moving fan in front of my house with Texas plates on it. If Bobby Louder reads this, then he can kiss my ya know what. 4( Forgive my grammar and spellings. My wife usually proof reads but she is out house shopping in Texas. Shhhhh, keep that quiet and don’t tell Bobby Petrino about it. 5) My boys will be ready this week. I gave em all week to practice with no schooling and rithmatec. My boys graduate all the time. Just takes em a little longer taking remedial studies for 4 years before they get to the main schooling part. 5( Tray Blackom is out of jail and ready to put the hurting on somebody. 6) Brad Lester has been to school and taking writing lessons from Jeff Burger. They should have never suspended him. We lost to Miss State and South Fla for goodness sake. 7)Two thumbs up to all the Bama fans. Ooooweeee they got em a high price coach and I am gonna get me a raise. Why yall call me names and say I look like Dumbo? I got my momma’s earerss ya know. 8) What wears number 24 and runs over ya, around ya and looks back at ya after he is 20 yards ahead of ya? If I could spell his name I would but I think they call him Special K. Not of the corn flakes kind but of the touchdown kind This is ya fav i rite coach Tommy Tubaville and see yall at College Station.. Oopsss I mean Awlburn.

  2. Yes other teams have done it and it has “not worked”. No one said it was going to win the game for us. It is meant to fire these kids up and pump them up…get their adrenaline going. Cheering doesn’t win a game either, but it fires up the team and gets them motivated.

The game this coming Saturday should be a very intense battle. Coach Tommy T. and DC Will Muschamp will have the Tigers ready to prove that they will be able to notch another victory Between the Hedge’s. I feel confident that the Auburn Tigers will come away with the Victory in a hard fought spirited game. RB Moreno is an excellent player for the Dawgs but can carry Uga only so far. The QB Stafford is a good QB but not great and has only good receivers to compliment him as well. The offensive line seems to be improving but still lacks cohesiveness. QB and Receiver play just hasn’t lived up to its expectations but is good at times. The Tigers should be able to keep Uga in check in those two areas. Uga’s defense is an area in which has been plagued with problems of inconsistency. The defensive schemes Uga employs is suspect by players not being disciplined and not being well coached. Auburn exposed these problems two years ago in Athens and was able to win that game in the wainning moments. Teams were able to follow suit as did WVU, Vandy, Kentucky,Tenn, and SC. Even in some of UGA’s win’s , teams were able to take advantage of uga’s inconsistency during the past three years. Granted the dawgs are a well coached team but are a little overrated. Uga will have problems with their up coming game with Kentucky as well, because the Wildcats match up very well with the dawgs simply because of the defensive issues. IMO Uga isn’t a top 10 team but a good team. Coach Tommy T simply prepares for away games better than CMR who BTW does an excellent job himself. This game should be another competitive classic with the Tigers prevailing. I know Dawg nation is very excited as all of us in War Eagle nation. Wow. And I thought that the UF-UGA game generated some serious smack talk——not even. LOL

As for the so-called “black out,” these recent UGA motivational ploys have the potential to become a bit like Notre Dame pulling out the green jerseys whenever they believe they need some extra luck and motivation. How many times can you trick your kids into playing up to their potential? At some point, repeated motivational gestures seem a bit contrived; you want your players fired up, not laughing at the gesture.

Maybe Coach Richt needs to learn to give Bear’s “mamas and papas” speech instead. LOL

Phillip Sturgis- S. Florida - a team that “has been” ranked higer than Uga this year. “Has been” are the keywords in this sentence. Michigan was also ranked #4 in the nation at one point this year. USF isn’t ranked now nor is Miss. St. But nice try!

By Big Dawg

November 6, 2007 6:33 PM | Link to this

OK Phil, let’s see if we follow, you say that Auburn is better than UGA because AU lost to Miss St who beat KY who might beat the dawgs in two weeks! Ridiculous logic even for an Auburn fan. BTW, S Fla just plain sucks-give it up.

Phillip,

Is that the same S.Florida team that has lost 3 straight? Where are they ranked right now? And last time I checked, Carolina WAS ranked higher than Auburn has been this year too. What does that have to do with anything? I would worry about your team beating the Dawgs this week before theorizing about UKs chances next week.

Bob: The only thing Auburn owns, is a second rate diploma. You “own” a four game lead in 105 year old series because of Ray Goff & Jim Donnan. You “own” half the SEC titles as UGA. You “own” half the MNC’s as UGA. You “own” less wins, less bowl appearances, less bowl wins, less all americans, and are generally less accomplished in every form or fashion. You own a 37-15 loss in your stadium last year. Get over yourself.

You know up until reading some of these comments from Auburn fans I thought much respect was given between the 2 fan bases. I guess I was wrong.

So I guess I can say Auburn sucks. Tuberville sucks. Terry Bowden was great and Pat Dye was a loser. Bo Jackson was a second rate SEC player who couldn’t read or spell and Eric Ramsey is a hero.

Does that make anyone feel better? Me? No? I am actually a huge Bo Fan and up until reading some of theses fans comments considered Auburn my next favorite SEC team. I guess not now thanks to degenerate Auburn fans.

Hope they don’t go all black, but for sure I hope they don’t pull the stunt they did in J’ville one year under Donnan, when they wore red jerseys and black pants - they looked like the Red Coat Band and played like it.

Sounds like the team is trying to light a fire under the fans - hell, black is my usual color for games at home or in person, so I’m right there - but face it, our fans are typically so laid-back that they need something to remind them they’ve got a role in this thing. Wear black and beat ‘em black and blue.

The Dawg fans are building this one way out of proportion. AU’s season was over with Miss. St. The coffin was nailed shut with LSU. That was the “GAME”! Maybe it is appropriate that the DAWGS wear all Black to the “funeral”.

This weekend will be a 3 hour opportunity to get some of the Underclassmen experience in hostile territory. In other words, UGA is nothing more than Tennessee Tech* this year for AU! Who’d ever think that.

Hey, geniuses. The high Saturday is going to be mid 60s. I don’t think the black will make me too warm to enjoy the game. We happily sat through 90+ to watch the DAWGS spank OK State. 65 in a black polo will be just fine.

Georgia Seniors Ask Fans To Wear Black for Auburn Game

By SECGirl

November 6, 2007 9:27 PM | Link to this

Seriously…I am an AU fan, but the idea is cool. Why do some UGA fans have to get sooooo nasty about Auburn? I like it that two classy teams are playing—unlike LSU or Bama…who are coached to play dirty. Be proud, but don’t be nasty about Auburn. It’s a great school and UGA has it’s share of “kuntry” folks too.

By Auburn13

Ummm….yeah…..so Auburn has had this tradition for a few years now. We were more creative with our name though. ALL AUBURN ALL ORANGE. Way to be original yet again UGA.

OK. This is not really about the game on Saturday or the blackout. Can somebody please tell me why Auburn has two mascots: Tiger and War Eagle? Maybe I am just ignorant, but I have never really cared enough about Auburn to look it up. It’s just something that sometimes makes me go “Hmmmm…”

For those of you who keep complaining about wearing black in the “heat of the day” the forecast for Saturday is a high of 68 degrees and by the second half, it will be dark and in the low to mid 50’s. Heat will not be a problem. I prefer red myself but if the team wants black, I’ll gladly oblige.

By SECGirl

Enough about the mascot thing…what the ???? It is a tired old barb and seriously if that’s all you’ve got, it’s pretty sad. Try to be educated and learn the reason for War Eagle…it’s a battle cry fool. I bet if GA had won the game the year that the majestic proud symbol of our nation died on the field, you’d be cryin’ War Eagle too.

They want a blackout? Maybe they should talk to the Falcons. They had one just a couple of days ago.

By Goobers are Drawn to Blogs

November 6, 2007 9:52 PM | Link to this

The general tone of these blogs is pretty funny.

Auburn leads the series by 4 games, Georgia is a more accomplished program. Auburn had been very successful in Athens, Georgia has been very successful in Auburn. Anybody who really thinks they know what’s going to happen in this game is kidding themselves. This game is a coinflip the way it has been for 100+ years regardless of who has the better team.

If the kids want UGA fans to wear black, then UGA fans should wear black. Lost in all this smack talking blather, is the fact that this game is still about the KIDS that play for each school. Best of luck to all the young men who step onto the field Saturday night, whatever coler they may don.

Those going to the game: hit several Walmarts and Targets on the way, raid the black shirts, and setup ad-hock vending for those too lame/timid to join in, but who might regret it once they get into town. Charge enough for the 1st few, so that when a cop shuts you down for no business license, you can start giving them away, and still have made money. I won’t be in the stadium, but I’ll be on Lumpkin St., black from my hoodie to my combat boots. While you’re at it, play your AC/DC, Will Smith, or Stones songs at your tailgates.

To Brad: Georgia has the most obnoxious fans? Please! The two times I went to Auburn for a game, the fire hoses came out after Georgia won, and the other time an Auburn fan hurled a liquor bottle off the top deck after a big Georgia gain. I’m sorry but rolling trees with toilet paper? I might have done that when I was 12. Maybe you need to take a long look in the mirror to define obnoxious. Maybe you were the fan with the liquor bottle.

Apparently Auburn people have a truly boring like since they love to blog on a UGA page. You people are absolutely pathetic. The comment that Auburn owns UGA is amusing - 4 games does not really constitute ownership. Also, it would be hard to decipher just what about Auburn is orignal. The tiger paws are from CLemson, - tigers themselves from LSU and CLemson, wearing orange comes from UT, and the playing of GLory, Glory comes from Georgia. Should I go further with the stupidity displayed by your dysfunctional university - tigers, eagles, plainsmen?????

The team that we all love wants us to come out and wear black? 10-4. Will do. This campus lives and dies with our Dogs. How ‘bout that we broke the bell after we beat Florida? Rang it right off the holder.

NOW FOR THE REAL CHALLENGE:

Can our ALUMNI get up and match the noise level coming from the NE corner and the West endzone? If we REALLY want this to work the colors won’t matter. What we really need is all of ya’ll to get CRAZY LOUD.

That said, let’s all dress in our Black to support our Dogs and be the loudest anyone can remember Sanford being in a VERY long time.

Air Force’s Chad Hall, seen here running away from the Army defense during the Falcons’ 30-10 win Saturday, leads his team in rushing, receiving and all-purpose yards.

o Digg o del.icio.us o Newsvine o Reddit o Facebook o What’s this? By Andy Gardiner, USA TODAY Notre Dame’s top defensive priority Saturday against Air Force will be to corral Falcon Chad Hall. But the Irish will have to find him first. The senior jack-of-all trades could line up at wide receiver, slot receiver, tailback or quarterback. He handles reverses, options, slant patterns and returns with ease. Hall is the only Division I-A player leading his team in rushing, receiving and all-purpose yards and is a major reason Air Force brings a 7-3 record into South Bend, Ind. “He’s a kid who certainly isn’t tall (5-8), isn’t a big kid weight-wise (180 pounds) and doesn’t have breakaway speed,” says first-year Falcons coach Troy Calhoun. “But he has quickness and good hands and gives us someone with a little electricity, someone who can make the other guys miss in the open field.” Hall is averaging 112 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns in an offense that ranks fourth in rushing at 273 yards a game. He has 426 receiving yards and another score and averages 13.5 yards on punt returns and 21.4 yards on kickoffs. FIND MORE STORIES IN: Division I | Air Force | Falcons | Hall | SOUTH BEND | Troy Calhoun The former choir boy was at his most dangerous last week in the Falcons’ 30-10 win against Army. He broke his own academy record by running for 275 yards, and his 333 all-purpose yards broke a 39-year old Air Force mark. “I love having the ball in my hands and having the opportunity to make plays,” Hall says. “Converting a big third down, changing the momentum of a game, those are the best feelings.” Calhoun, an Air Force graduate and former assistant coach, did not know what he had when he took over from Fisher DeBerry. A minor knee injury forced Hall to miss spring drills, and it wasn’t until a month into the season that the coaching staff saw the light. “We had gone 3-1 against some pretty good competition, but after playing four games it became very evident we needed to get him much more involved in what we were doing,” Calhoun says. “We began to line him up all over. The more he touched the ball, the more good things happened for us.” Hall was also a point guard and shortstop in high school in Atlanta, but football was his first love. Four of his uncles went to Division I-AA Furman, and the Paladins were very interested in bringing in a fifth member of the family. “But I really wanted to see if I could play at the Division I-A level,” Hall says. “Air Force recruited me as a quarterback but switched me to running back after my freshman year. That was fine. I just wanted to get on the field as fast as I could.” Calhoun returned to the Academy after three years as an assistant with the Denver Broncos and a year as the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator. He tabled the Falcons’ option offense and went to a spread attack with the flexibility to move the “z-back” at will. That was fine with Hall. “It’s a great position. I line up in the slot and get to do a ton of different things,” he says. “It gives me a lot of opportunities to get the ball in open space.” Although Notre Dame is 1-8 and just lost to Navy for the first time in 43 years, Calhoun considers the Irish a team loaded with future NFL players who will be in a foul mood come Saturday. Hall is looking forward to the challenge. “We’ve tried to make it a normal week, doing the same stuff, but I’ve never been to South Bend,” Hall says. “This game is one we’ve all been looking forward to.” Share this story:

Anybody think maybe color of jerseys and what the fans wear has as much to do w/ the outcome as somebody sprinkling pixie dust, pushing a pin in a Stafford bobblehead, and/or counting up the Christians on each side and figuring the team w/ the most God-fearers wins?

In other words, it’s football; it’s fun; do it or not, the team that shows up and plays the best game should probably win.

Well, on second thought, this is college football. God knows how the emotions of doing something ‘special’ might affect the game.

After spending about 10 minutes reading some of these posts, I couldn’t believe some of the ignorance spewed on here. Both teams are talented & capable of winning on Saturday. Both fan bases are passionate in supporting their teams. So if UGA seniors want their fans to wear black in support of the team then why is that considered lame by some of you? Name calling, especially talking negatively & vulgarities about women, is disrespectful & childish. Would you like anyone to call your wife, daughter, sister or mother such names? Women should be treated with respect, they certainly deserve it considering what they endure these days. Please, can we just limit these posts to good natured rivalry smacktalk?! GO DAWGS!

To those of you whom insist on wearing red: don’t forget that our colors are red and BLACK. I’ve seen way too many people wearing WHITE on game day. Now THAT’s weird. My friends and I are all gonna wear black, which I do on occasion anyway. It’s a fun thing to do, but don’t expect it to affect the game. (They tend to lose if I’m not wearing my G hat. I put it on and they do well. I forget to wear it and they do badly.) It’s time we beat those ‘confused-awbun-wareagle-plainsmen-tigers’ in our house. Gooooo Dawgs! Sic em! Woof, woof, woof, woof!

When Lou Holtz tried this ploy once against the Gators, Spurrier’s receivers loved it — they said the black backdrop made the ball much easier to see and catch in the stadium. I believe they hung a 50 on ‘em. (Sound familiar?) Good luck to the Dawgs, who apparently need some sort of extra motivation against all of their key opponents.

Looking forward to the ploy planned for KY….

November 7, 2007 2:09 PM | Link to this

It has been explained to THUGA fans for generations. It is a tired, unoriginal, and ultimately annoying question. Auburn has always only had one mascot. Auburn’s mascot is a TIGER. “WAR EAGLE” is a war cry, like “GO DAWGS”, except Auburn opted to forgo the phonetic spelling “WORE EEGULL” and spell it correctly. Auburn fans also use the equally acceptable “GO TIGERS”; however, “WAR EAGLE” has a nicer ring to it. We are not the War Eagles, the Eagles, or any type of predatory fowl. It only goes to further expose one’s ignorance to continue to repeatedly ask the same stupid questions year after year.

Can someone tell me what a DAWG is anyway? UGA should be more interested in correctly spelling your mascot than ribbing us about choosing one. And furthermore, Auburn fans don’t bark or make any other animal noises. There is nothing more redneck in college football than a bunch of barking women.

I wouldn’t call this black saturday thing bush but I’d rather the focus be on preparation. It seems like we’re getting into a gimmick a game cycle. Also black seems like a lousy shade for a game. It’s not one of the best colors (shades) to fire people up…but red is.

I agreet with you A-ville. I think that the blackout may not be the greatest idea, but given a chance to provide a spark for our players, we should take it. Personally, if the players asked for a “shirtless Saturday” in the middle of December I would do it. We should support the team and their wishes, regardless of whether we agree with it or not. All I know is that Sanford is gonna get loud this Saturday, black jerseys or not.

UGA has been so successful under Richt that the Georgia Bashers need to resort to bashing what color clothes the fans wear to the game and a team celebration in the end zone after scoring a touchdown.

Another one made a statement that most UGA fans did not attend UGA or any other college. Is this the best you have? Do you have any statistics or ducumentation that support that? I happened to have gone to UGA, but even if there are a lot of fans who did not go to UGA or another college, Nobody cares.

I’m sure there are some folks in the Chicago area that are big fans of Notre Dame that never went to college (wasn’t the movie Rudy kind of based on that?). It doesn’t make them less of a fan. I’ll take fans that support the team win or lose and cheer loudly and fill a 92,000 person stadium EVERY week as opposed to a stadium that had to have seats taken out because their “fans” couldn’t fill it.

As an Auburn undergrad graduate(‘99) and UGA Law School Grad (‘03) the upcoming outing on Saturday is very difficult to watch.

I love both teams. I think what frustrates me the most is the way people take shots at each other here. I respect both football programs and both universities in equal fashion. UGA offered me a scholarship to go to undergrad but I felt like Auburn was the best place for me. I am so grateful I made that decision and then had the opportunity to later land in Athens.

The shocking thing you may not get is how much respect the players and coaches have for their opposition. These Georgia fans on here mock Auburn, yet it was the Auburn home crowd back in 2004 that brought tears to my eyes by repeatedly yelling “Reggie, Reggie” at Bulldog receiver Reggie Brown when he was down on the ground after a tough hit.

The Auburn players, at the same time, were down on their knees praying for Brown.

I would say Auburn has the greatest tradition in college football, the “War Eagle” flying onto the field before kickoff. A live animal, imagine that? It’s such an overwhelming experience that last year the UGA coaches (who were headed upstairs to the press box)waited and stood still in their tracks. They didn’t want to miss it either.

That’s such a great tradition but why must an Auburn person damage it by suggesting our “UGA” be thrown from the upper deck?

“UGA” is a legend in his own right.

When I think about Auburn, I think about God’s country. I think about beautiful girls, F-16’s flying over Jordan-Hare, a dominating swim team, Toomer’s Corner, the nation’s second best school of design and construction, and how great it is to be an Auburn Tiger!

When I think about Georgia, I think about the outside deck of Mexicali’s on the east side, running on Milledge or at Spec Towns Track, the incredible downtown scene, the GYMDAWGS, our amazing Law School, more gorgeous girls, especially on game day in red and black, my Players Club Apartment, Munson and the bugle, The Arches, a tremendous Christian as our coach, and how great it is to be a Bulldog!

If you realized how people around the country still somehow look down at our conference and still don’t respect the SEC, you would embrace each other and pull for each other, when not facing each other. Don’t try to knock each other. Both schools are inspiring places to live and grow.

Watch the players after the game. Somewhere around midfield, no matter who wins, the players from both teams will be hand-in-hand in prayer.

It’s a great rivalry but it’s only a game.I personally believe UGA will win a tight contest, but win or lose, congratulate each other.

Buck, your boy Stafford has finally showed poise and confidents in his reads. I can see the big difference since the first few games. Of course, a lot of it has to do with our o-line playing well. He’s not quite close to his peak yet. But, I saw a tremendous improvement since the USC game. Back in the Carolina game, he was trying to make big plays when it was not really there. Since the Bama game, he checked down a few times… good sign. IMO, he’s slowly blossoming… maybe ShoTime is rubbing it off on him.

UGA vs. AU is what College football is all about. Its a game I don’t bet on, talk trash about (within the same context of the Jacksonville summit treaty), or miss for the world. It is typically one of the most evenly matched, intense, and classic games you can see all year- every year. This is a game where it could come down to which Coach coaches best, which team turns the ball over at the most crucial time, special teams, or overtime. This game is why I love college football more than any other sport.

I hope no one from either side gets hurt and the best team (for 3 1/2 hours) wins it without controversy.

Buck- I’m praying for you bro- fight man, fight.

The thing you can say about Buck is he is pure Dawg Fan. I haven’t always agreed with his slants, but one thing I never doubted, his comments are never intended to prove how smart he was, or just vent unrealistically, or try to outduel anyone in here. He always posts what he thinks is in the best interest of the University of Georgia, not his own agenda. I can tell you this, there was not a person in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, that endured as much to get there, or deserved that victory any more. Now that I think about it, the things he has most believed in, were the very reasons it all came together. His boy Stafford coming of age, and his man Richt finding ways to transform into a “trueHC”.

A-ville, you got that right, if you could invent the college football game day focusometer, you’d be rich. I can’t beleive the fans choice of color is going to be an issue, once those boys start the collisions. I CAN howerer inmagine a slight bit of disappointment on thier part to come out of that locker room, and nobody made the effort. Heck, I just think its kind of a fun things for the fans to do. If nothing else will be an interesting few moments when the team takes the field and the interation between the player and the fans acknowleging the whole deal. I’m sure they are wise enough to realize they arent going to get every last old fart from Atlanta to do it. I’m sure plenty will not even know what the heck is going on. Whether you like the idea or not, your players and coach have asked you to wear black to the ball game. The last time that I checked, black IS one of our school colors, so it shouldn’t be too hard to come through for them. If a wardrobe change will help our players to come out as fired-up as there were for Florida, then black it is. I would guess that any ‘fans’ wearing red tomorrow are probably the same ‘fans’ who boo their own players leave halfway through the 4th quarter (or earlier) to ‘beat the traffic’. My husband doesn’t own anything with long sleeves that is black….I’ll be purchasing something for him to wear on my way home from work. GO DAWGS!
