UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Everything is still possible for Dogs

TGIF and hope you guys have a great weekend planned. You might want to start with coming to Athens for the Georgia-Troy game because it won’t be on TV and it promises to be a doosie. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Georgia won 24-23 or lost by a similar score. I’m not saying the Bulldogs’ level or vice-versa. It’s just that where the game falls and in the grand scheme of things I think it’s going to be hard for Georgia to come out and play real well and, conversely, I think the Trojans will be motivated like it’s their national championship game. All that said I still think the Dogs will take care of business but I wouldn’t show up expecting a blowout.

Sorry about no blog yesterday. I actually did one but, in my slammed state yesterday I forgot to notify our online folks to post it. Consequently it never saw the light of day. It was short and lame anyway. I was trying to come up with a cool nickname for Knowshon Moreno. I’ve seen “Special K” and “No-Mo” among others so I thought it’d be fun to see if we could come up with something better. Feel free to weigh in on that if you must.

Today I wanted to do the very thing that coaches absolutely hate for people to do and that is to look ahead. The Bulldogs have four games left and, believe it or not, every goal they had in the preseason is still possible. That’s amazing to me considering how badly they playeed against South Carolina and Tennessee. Losing to the Gamecocks at home — and I still think the Dogs were the better team — at this point will prove to be the bothersome splinter Georgia just can’t get rid of.

But, looking forward, the Dogs could very realistically run the table (acknowledging that Auburn will be a war as usual). Of course they would still need Tennessee to lose to either Arkansas, Vanderbilt or Kentucky in order to make it to the SEC Championship Game. But not making it to the Dome might not be the worst scenario for Georgia.

Think about it: Should LSU handle Alabama Saturday, run the table and represent the West in Atlanta, the Tigers would remain the highest-rated team in the SEC and a favorite to win the SEC title. I don’t think LSU would be a good matchup for Georgia or any other East team for that matter.

So maybe the best scenario is for Georgia and Tennessee to tie for the Eastern Division title and then for the Vols go to Atlanta and get their butts kicked by LSU. The Dogs already are the second-highest rated team in the league. If LSU somehow gets a berth in the BCS championship game, it’s not unrealistic that Georgia would also get a BCS bid and land in a very good bowl.

Granted, a lot has to happen between now and then, not the least of which is Georgia taking care of business against Troy this weekend. I’m not being delusional here. I still see the Bulldogs as a very flawed team and one that’s extremely fortunate to be where they are at the moment. But they are where they are and crazy things happen in this game, especially this season.

What do y’all think?

Very interesting scenario chip. I really think the Dawgs are going on a roll that will carry over to next year. Auburn is the big road block… they play much better defense than anyone we have played thus far. I also think that the Vols could easily lose one of their games. If the stars align and we somehow get by Auburn, this could be quite a year. I think Stafford is going to light it up as the year comes to a close, because everyone is keying on the running game now. This offense has the potential to be as good as any in the country.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the Dawgs are likely to lose one more game during the regular season, either to Auburn, Kentucky, or Tech (I doubt we lose to Troy, although they’ll beat the spread). We are just too streaky to put it all together and win out.

Personally, I’d rather win out and have the opportunity to play LSU for the championship.

It’s what competition all about. Sure, the Dawgs could get creamed by the Tigers - but wouldn’t you rather have the chance to prove it?

I would, anytime.

Think about the two times they’ve face LSU in the Dome - the Dawgs got whipped the first time in what was thought of as a even game, and the Dawgs whipped them the second time when the Dawgs were though to be an underDawg.

Aren’t you glad they played in the second game - or are you disappointed that LSU didn’t have the chance to destroy UT/UF/USC/UK/VANDY??

Ask Kentucky if they thought LSU was a good matchup =)

Wins over Kentucky and Auburn are anything but a given, but I think it is more likely that the Dawgs will win those two than it is that Tennessee will win all three of their remaining games. The Vols are even more prone to showing up flat and laying an egg than Georgia.

I disagree with those who say the East winner will probably be mismatched against LSU. LSU lost to Kentucky, and came within inches of losing to Florida at home. One more good break and Auburn could have easily won its game at Tiger Stadium. LSU is very good, but overrated. I think Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Florida are all very capable of winning the title game, and I would love to see the Dawgs get the opportunity. It could well be a rematch with Alabama.

Interesting scenario w/ UT playing LSU and Georgia getting an at large BCS bid. I see your point there Chip, but I’d still rather play LSU. We aint scared! LSU is a good team, but they are the most overated in the nation right now in my opinion. Which may be realized come Sat night… I think the Dawgs play better against Troy then they normaly would. They tasted great victory and heart last week, and it tastes good. Lets have seconds.

Well Chip… don’t sell the dawgs too short. If the dawgs make it to the Dome it would pay big dividends for the program in the long run, particularly in recruiting. The dawgs would have another SEC East title and who really knows what the outcome would be if the dawgs were pitted against LSU for the SEC championship. That is why the games are played. However there is still a LOT of football to be played. It’s still one game at a time starting with Troy. Go Dawgs

Would somebody tell me what in hell Jim Rome’s (ESPN JR’s Burning) problem is with CMR and the University of Georgia? First it was his take on the show of enthusiasm following the Vandy game…he went out of his way to rub our noses in the fact that we were celebrating beating the Commodores. Today it was yet another take on the celebration at the GA/FLA game. He laid into Richt and featured Superior’s comment that if he had been the opposing coach he’d have sent a scrub into the fray to start a fight thus getting all the UGA players on the field suspended for subsequent games. Rome went on to talk about how stupid CMR is and how brilliant his boy (OBC, or HBC, or SOBBC, whatever) is. Of course no mention that actually starting a fight would seem to be more along the lines of Darwin Holt and Alabama - and probably against more rules and is more reprehensible than ‘excessive celebration’. Appears that this Rome guy’s got his nose firmly up Superior’s butt.

By the way you can reach Rome through jimrome@espn.com

Your scenario highlights one of my pet peeves about college football and the media. College football is a regional sport, something media-types tend to ignore. The passion is stoked by working alongside alums of rival schools. In no way shape or manner would I trade a ‘better’ bowl for an SEC championship. That is the goal and that’s what I care about.

By Lowcountry Bulldawg

November 2, 2007 6:39 PM | Link to this

You want to play for the Championship if you can. I think the odds are long but UGA has a strong hsot at doing it. We proved last year pop Cox a few times and he’ll throw the ball all over the place. Tech…cake walk after watching that game last night. Kentucky? Well again pop Woodson and those running backs a few times and they’ll lose that reckless edge that they had early in the season.

UT loses to Arkansas and we run the table. Didn’t think it would happen after the UT game, but its been a strange season and I’ll take it.

Rome’s job is negative journalism. Rome’s job is to stir the pot. Ignore that fool, SOS, and all the jealous bugs you’ll hear from trying to bash it. The rest of the country all knows that was one of the most brilliant motivational moves by a coach ever. Dont hate the player, hate the game.

DirtyDawg, Who cares what Jim Rome says or believes? The guy is a jerk to begin with. He has a right to his opinion anyway. Guys like Herbstreit loved the Florida celebration. In fact, I have been surprise by how so many in the media have actually supported it or at least understood the reasoning for it. I wouldn’t get too worried about what Rome is upset about…the guy wouldn’t know college football if it stared him in the face.

The Chapel Bell story reminds me of a hilarious Far Side cartoon. There’s this patriot at a bell store and every single bell in the store is cracked as are the glasses of the nerdy store owner. The patriot is telling the store owner something like “Now, remember this is going to be THE Liberty Bell so we expect you to take extra special care with it.”

Spurrier is just another Gator eating sour grapes this week. His ploy wouldn’t work, because as soon as the “scrub” started a fight and several Georgia players engaged him, both benches would be emptied and there would be multiple ejections on both sides, starters and scrubs alike. Spurrier had a rough week - his team lost a heartbreaker to Tennessee, right after his beloved Gators got their butts handed to them by the hated Bulldogs.

I don’t usually do prognostications but I don’t think this one will be that close.I’m guessing 10 points or so is more like it.Tenn threw Lamarcus Coker off the team, that could make a difference,or not.If there was any doubt about Steve Spurrier’s hate for UGA (I don’t doubt it at all).He said if he was in Meyer’s position with the celebration after the td he’d send a third stringer to start a fight. It’s logical to sacrifice one guy to get some of our starters suspended but who thinks that’s all he was thinking ? the man is near obsessive in his hate for our school.

A-ville Ranger,

Ole SOS has never forgiven Dooley and his Dawgs for ripping him and his Gators 27-10 in his Heisman winning season 1966. The Lizards had the opportunity to win the SEC that year and Stevie had to settle for the Heisman. He has never gotten over that. To rub his face in it, Georgia went on to be co-champs with Bama, run SMU out of the Cotton Bowl and finish #4 in the country.

The last ESPN.com bowl prediction had UGA in either the Sugar (versus Hawaii) or the Fiesta (versus Oklahoma). If the Dawgs can keep playing a la Florida they can take anyone. I don’t think they can as I don’t think any team can. These are college kids with 12 regular season games and for a few a championship game and for some a bowl game. As someone once said, you’re a college kid and you flunk a test or your girlfriend dumps you or grandma dies and then you can have an awful game.

We will be favored in all four remaining games. Auburn will be (should be) the toughest but they lost to Miss State. Troy, Auburn & UK are home games. Tech will be in Atlanta but UGA fans will show up disproportionately. Shame the Auburn game isn’t at night …

Tech should have their better runners back and they generally play their best against UGA so that game will not be easy. UGA may have one of the best chances to go 4-0 than we’ve had in a long time. I think it’s just as likely we go 3-1 as 4-0. That would put us at 9-3 or 10-2 (which I though was impossible after imploding at Tennessee). All that assumes no UGA injuries - esp. for Stafford, Moreno, and the O-line. I don’t see us beating LSU (but the same went for UK this year and UGA 2 years ago). If we went 10-2 missed the SECCG and beat someone in a BCS bowl to finish Top 5 then that would be a WAY better finish that anyone rooted in reality saw coming at the beginning of the year. A strong finish now, combined with an exceptional recruiting class for 2008, has the potential to make next year special (although back-to-back LSU and Florida games plus the usual meatgrinder SEC makes looking ahead generally unfruitful.

Throw to Massaquoi more. Toss sweep to Moreno. I can’t wait for AJ Green to get to Athens.

Guys I think next year shapes up as potentially a very good one. The biggest challenge will be what maybe the toughest schedule I can recall. Carolina, Arizona State, LSU, Auburn, Kentucky and Florida all away from Sanford Stadium. Throw in Bama, Tennessee and Tech Between the Hedges and that is out and out brutal.

I agree that if given the opportunity, I would rather play in Atlanta against the Bengals. Getting to the title game assures us that Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee don’t and that in itself is a great accomplishment. Plus, 4 title games in 6 years ain’t bad after nothing for 20.

By Finchdawg

November 2, 2007 7:49 PM | Link to this

I would love for us to beat both Auburn and Kentucky, but I just don’t see it happening. This year has been too crazy, and I don’t think UGA has beaten both Auburn and Florida since the Dooley Era. I see us finishing 3-1, with the loss probably coming to Auburn. Tomorrow, 34-24 Dawgs, but yeah, it could be closer. Special K sounds a little better than Kno Mo (sounds like a defensive nickname, like “no more of that”). Go Dawgs!

Bob You’re right as you can be about Spurrier holding a grudge. If you look at what UF has been to us since Stevie sunshine took over, before that we were to them. It’s been awhile since I read this so if I’m off a little…sorry. As I remember it UGA knocked UF out of contention in the sec at least six times in the 60s,70s and 80s.I really think that after failing in DC part of why he took a job in the sec east was to beat UGA.

A-ville Ranger,

Yeah it used to be if the game was critical to Georgia or to Florida the Dawgs would win. If neither team was in contention the Gators would occaisionally get a W. The 66 Gators were undefeated just like Bama was. The Dawgs had lost by 1 point in the Orange Bowl to the Canes. Spurrier was clearly the favorite to win the Heisman but a couple of guys named Stanfill and Scott were in his face all day long. Spurrier later apologized to his team for letting them down, but in reality Georgia was a much more physical team and dominated the game. Spurrier got the trophy and deservedly so, but UGA and Bama were co champs and finished 3d and 4th nationally. Mich State and Notre Dame played the infamous 10-10 tie and the Irish won the NC.

Give me a break. Spurrier was thinking about the $$$ and the possibility of bringing USC out of the cellar and making a name for himself again after a pitiful performance in the pros. UGA may have been in the back of his mind, but he would not have made a decision like this based on an old grudge.

Go Dawgs!!!

UGA86,

I agree. I think the $$, bringing up a team that had never won a championship and a bit of a slap at Jeremy Foley were the main reasons for going to Columbia. Still, there is no school that he hates as much as UGA. He doesn’t like the Vols but a lot of that is talk only. His real venom is still aimed at his playing days tormenters.

Well heck Chip, if we’re doing this for fun, how ‘bout this scenario:

UGA wins out, but so does UT. LSU beats UT in the SECCG. Along the way, teams 2 through 9 in the BCS poll lose a game and UGA moves their way up the poll. National Championship game, LSU and UGA! Woohoo!

Now how’s that for fun!!!

By NASCARfan

November 2, 2007 8:48 PM | Link to this

Chip, you aren’t the first person to float this likely scenerio.

What do y’all think LSU from last year would have wanted? Lose to Florida in the SEC Title Game and then play the Capitol One Bowl or maybe the Cotton or Outback Bowl, or sit out, let Arkansas take those lumps, and play in the sUGAr Bowl?

I don’t know about y’all, but if we win out and Tennessee wins out, I’m not going to cry. Instead I’ll have fun making plans for New Orleans instead of Orlando or Tampa.

Think about it. Missing out on the East will increase our program’s profile this year because we will get to play in the Sugar Bowl against either Hawaii or UConn/West Virginia. Who wouldn’t rather rematch with those dirty Mountaineers in New Orleans and ram Special K down their throat for four quarters then go to Orlando and play a crappy Michigan team or go to Tampa and play a crappy Wisconsin team?

Also, how awesome would it be for thee SEC to have it’s two best teams play within a week of each other in the same city?

Come on y’all. I had a feeling we would win the 2005 SEC Championship Game. I thought a healthy DJ Shockley would have led the Dawgs to an undefeated season in 2005, but he got hurt and we lost to the Gators (thanks 4-year man JoeTIII for being so inept the coaches couldn’t trust you with a more open gameplan) and a still hurt Shock played great, but hobbled against Auburn. But he was healthy v. LSU, and I knew he would lead us to the win.

This year, as much as I love Special K, I just think this is LSU’s year. Just like next year will be our year. So why want to play LSU now? Let Tennessee be this year’s Arkansas. We’ll be last year’s LSU. We’ll tie for the East, like they did for the West last year. We’ll sit out the Championship Game, like they did last year. And then we’ll play in the sUGAr Bowl like they did last year, giving our young team the experience to come back in ‘08, ready to win the Mythical National Title.

Now, who wouldn’t rather have that scenerio? It’s actually better for this year as well as next year for the Dawgs to miss the SEC Championship Game, but still play in the sUGAr Bowl.

Come on y’all, as Rocky says, it’s simple mathematics.

Oh c’mon. With a name like Knowshon Moreno, why does he need a nickname. If you Knowshon like I Knowshon, get it, poetry in motion.

Just win every game we can, one at a time. I thought we would go 8-4 and truthfully, that can still happen. Repeat after me, one at time, one at a time.

Let’s beat the fighting condoms first. Then go from there. I heard their mascot wears a giant latex suit. He lays on the ground when things are not going there way. But when they start getting some movement in their offence and the tight end gets some plays, he jumps up and stands at attention untill they score. Then he lays back down, smokes a cigarette, takes a nap and has to change into another suit for the next series. Just what I heard.

Chip, I know your purpose in this blog is to start discussion rather than do analysis, but I’d be very interested to know why you think Georgia is a “very flawed” team. As someone who follows the team closely, I think your opinion is a lot more informed than that of your columnist colleagues. (For example, I seem to remember Jeff Schultz predicting a one-loss season for UGA back in August, while your projections were considerably more realistic). Any chance you could give us your unvarnished view of the Dawgs’ strengths and weaknesses at this point in the season?

I have to laugh at these Dawgs, they win 3 games in 18 years and you would think they rule the college football world. Then when your coach publicly disgraces himself and reporters call him out on it you feel the need to defend his actions. It shows the status of your football program. Cheap, fake celebrations. Reminds me of thugs at Miami. As for the above writer who said Georgia handed Florida it’s butt, think before you show your ignorance. In no way was this game the rout you seem to think it was and when Auburn hands you your loss and Tennessee loses one of it’s games it sure is going to be UGALY around here. (Sort of like your cheerleaders)IMAGINE the team you “HANDED THEM THEIR BUTT” going to the SEC Championship game while you sit home doing what dawgs always do “Licking your butt”.

Lowcountry, I have to disagree with you. 24 is overhyped and overrated. The Office is good though. For best show on television I’d have to say it’s a tie between Law and Order: SVU and Friday Night Lights. FNL: great book, great movie, even better television show. And L&O:SVU is heads and shoulders the best L&O on TV.

And there are other great shows with great writing on television that like Friday Night Lights, aren’t getting their just dues. Rescue Me. Scrubs. Battlestar Galactica (don’t laugh, it’s true).

First, I hope the players are thinking about Troy. I know they’re in the sunbelt conf. but they are 6-2. And despite the 6 sacks last week UGA did give up almost 350 in total yards last week. And a hiccup this week would make everything that happened in Jacksonville absolutely pointless.

As far as the question of the day, if you get a shot to win a conference chamionship why wouldn’t you want to take it? LSU is good but they are far from being an unstoppable juggernaut. Besides, how can you know how good you are if you don’t take every opportunity to measure yourself against the best?

r or randy or whatever you are,

Get a life. You obviously haven’t been paying attention. Most of the nation has been voting heavily in favor of the “celebration”…check out the ESPN poll. Herbstreit and lots of coaches and retired coaches have praised it. We celebrated in the Georgia endzone. We also didn’t take a cheap shot at your Quarterback despite having multiple opportunities. Our reputation is not in ruins guy, but your defense is.

You guys always complain about the history of the series which we lead by 10 games despite your recent success. Well, that is also history and the most relevant number right now is 42-30. Another pretty good number is 188…as in yards by a freshman running back. How about 6, like number of sacks. Heck, even 3 is a pretty good one…take your choice on this one a). Number of Touchdowns scored by Knowshon b). Number of TD passes thrown by Matthew Stafford c). Number of offensive touchdowns scored by that prolific Gator Offense d). All of the above.

You guys better take care of business and hope that Vandy doesn’t “remember” being screwed at the Swamp two years ago on that bogus celebration penalty. They surely haven’t forgotten that.

Hey, R, your current graduating class, just like our current graduating class split their 4 games.

And why oh why, Randy, does Florida think that their football history didn’t start until 1990?

Is it because it didn’t?

No SEC Championships before the 1990’s. No National Championships before the 1990’s. No history or tradition to speak of before the 1990’s, except as underachieving losers.

Guess, what, Gators? You may have won the last decade in a half more than you lost to us, but it’s okay. We owned you for the previous 90 years before that.

I guess if I were you Randy, I wouldn’t want to remember that either.

Everything is in Georgia’s hands. If they can play the rest of the season the way they played last weekend, I think they win out in the regular season. I don’t think Auburn has enough offense for them and I don’t thinkd Kentucky has enough defense. But it all depends on keeping up their level of play.

Tenn. can’t win all of their final three in the sec, I don’t believe. And as far as the sec champ. game is concerned, I think uga can win that too. LSU only played one team with the passing ability that uga potentially can have and that was Kentucky and they lit em up.

One other thing about these UF fans still talking trash. Granted uga still has a long way to go before completely putting this series back in the right direction but I sense a little fear and denial from your comments.

Last saturday you got to see what your offense looks like without Tebow running it 25 times a game. And I think you’re starting to realize your offensive “genius” might have brought a finesse offense into the south eastern conference. You should take great pleasure in that nat’l championship from last year because I think Urban Legend has brought a knife to a gunfight.

I have always wanted the Dawgs to be a team in the mix and a national power. In a year when we have such youth, and during a time when we have so many challenges, it is a testimony to these group of players and coaches that we sit in a great spot. Think about it - we are in the top 10 and we have had a lot of games in prime time on CBS and ESPN. Our recruiting looks to be top three, and we just spanked Florida. Dang - it is like Christmas already!

I’ve always used No-Mo. Just sounds right. What does HE think about a nickname? (remember when Mooooo-sa’s mom got upset about us using that nickname?) What has been the greatest nickname for a Dawg?

I agree with Chip, we would lose to LSU. Do you thing our offensive line could handle LSU’s front four defensive line, with Dorsey. I’ll take Tennessee getting their butts kicked by LSU and us getting a BCS bowl bid. Of course, thats with us winning out.

Oh - about possibly losing to LSU. So what - you play to get in the SEC Championship game and sometimes you lose. But we cannot be afraid of losing. Said another way - you can’t win if you dont play in the game. Bring on LSU and see what happens. Even if our younger players do lose, aren’t they the better for having played in a championship game and getting that experience? Don’t ever be afraid of losing… that is not how a top tier program thinks!

I don’t see this team as flawed, extremely or otherwise.I see them as very talented but young. They have top notch talent in most areas. The one thing they may lack is a shut-down corner (Paul Oliver would have worked).I think they should win three of four and could beat Auburn as well.Next year looks like their best shot at being championship caliber since the 04 team, maybe even better.

Just 3 weeks ago you “Homers ” were crying and saying Fire Willie ! Now with a win over Florida you feel you dominate the World ! As far as the homer comment about LSU being overrated, look at Georgia ! Always over rated, Is UGA a top 10 team ? Hell No ! Even today , Tennessee are 2 touchdowns better. What happened to Matthew Stafford talk about over passing etc? 1 win and you fel you dominate the world. So many of you Georgia homers comment and love uga , yet the only time you have ever been to a college campus was and is to watch a football game. Go Auburn, Go Tech, Go Kentucky and Go Troy ! “Homers”

Steve Spurrier owns UGA !

By heeldawg

November 3, 2007 7:23 AM | Link to this

Comments on the above:

  1. Troy game will be close—two good teams duking it out, one with something to prove and another trying to escape the post-Gators hangover. Hopefully, the Dawgs will run the ball 75% of the time, run the clock and keep the ball away from Troy’s offense, which can score. Throwing into the teeth of their good pass defense would not be wise. The Dawgs’ depth will win out in the second half as the team pulls away late, winning 38-28.

  2. Spurrier’s a washed-up has-been, and he knows it. His offense scares no one anymore. Georgia beat itself in the SC game this season, but that won’t happen again for another decade. Spurrier’s strong suit in Columbia has been his defensive unit. Credit is due to Tyrone Nix for keeping the ‘Cocks marginally competitive. SOS, by contrast, is old and running out of time. Pretty soon, he’ll be sitting next to “granny” Holtz in the broadcast booth, ranting about how the Bulldogs ruined his college career and reinforcing his well-deserved reputation as a petty a-hole.

  3. Georgia’s doing about what I expected—being inconsistent, like most young teams are, but improving weekly on the OL as the young, talented players there learn how to play SEC football. Stacy Searels has done a marvelous job in getting these pups ready to play. They’ll be back for another three years, as will Moreno, Caleb King and most of the defense. Stafford’s got two years left, with Logan Gray waiting in the wings. And the incoming recruits are outstanding. If the Dawgs win 10 games and go to a good bowl in a rebuilding year, everything else is gravy.

  4. The Gators will be better next season, but so will Georgia. Had it not been for an injury to DJ Shockley in 2005, Georgia would have beaten Florida three out of the last four years. I think the Gator hex is over. The Dawgs should beat the Gators the next two years, and the Mark Richt critics may well be forced to eat some crow as this year’s “celebration” turns out to be the turning point of that series’ recent history.

  5. Urban Meyer may yet take that Notre Dame job. It will be a long time before the Domers are winners again, and Weiss may well get the axe after his third consecutive losing season. By then, Meyer’s finesse offense will have been deciphered by the SEC DC’s, and he’ll be thinking about taking his traveling calvacade of gimmickry elsewhere.

Chip, I agree with the BCS scenario too. It would be great to have two SEC teams in the BCS again. But I also would love to play in the SECCG game. Nascar,

Have watched 24 since the beginning and a couple of seasons have lagged but overall it is great. The concept of the show was completely original and the intense action scenes are very gripping. Plus it gave us the real President, David Palmer up until his assasination( you know whats bad is if he really ran, I woulda voted for him. LOL/J/K)

I will give you FNL, very underated show. Kyle Chandler as the coach is very believable and until the murder story line this season was very griping as far as reality. And whats not to like about FNL with Lila Garrity as the beautiful cheerleader. She definetly makes my top 10 list, but I digress completely here!

A vote also goes to The Family Guy. When I need a good laugh at something off color flip in on to that and you are guaranteed within 3 minutes to laugh at something that is going to offend 50% of America. Brian and Stewy are great!

You call UGA classless, what a riot. I am not saying we may not have our moments but this pot aint calling the kettle black. And your definition of a butt whipping just means that they do not teach Mathmatics at UF. UT put a but whipping on UGA. 42 offensive points versus 24 offensive points is defined as a but whipping by UGA over UF. The best part is the fact that you Gator fans just cannot get over the fact that your team lost. It makes you look even more pathetic. I just admit a loss and move on. The inability of Gator fans to do that borders on insanity, but it is surely entertaining.

Sho time sound good Samoan. You got it so far brah.

I think the SEC office would be “tensed” if a team played for the SEC title game who had been beat by 30 points by rivals, Tenn(Bama, Florida). Tenn has no defense, Cal 45, Fl 59, Ark. state 27, etc.Rivals.com predicts if Auburn wins out, Sugar Bowl vs Missouri, LSU- Ohio State NC, UGA Cotton Bowl vs Kansas. The big three slots are definitely in the fade of LSU, Auburn and UGA.

As a “Dawg in Tigerland” (i.e., living in Baton Rouge these past 25 years), I’m up with the idea of a third UGA-LSU championship. Georgia’s has shown real progress in key areas, esp offensive line work, and all it would take would for the balanced attack to cook would be for Matt Stafford to have an “on” night. I see Tennessee losing one more, so UGA has to get it done against Kentucky and Auburn to have their shot. That’s do-able. Let’s do it.

The biggest wall between us and going to the Sugar Bowl is Auburn. Such was the case back in 1982 when Munson begged Georgia to hunker down against Auburn on our way to the Sugar Bowl. Wow, it would be deja vu all over again when Munson calls the GA-Auburn game next week and tells them to hunker down and we wind up in the Sugar Bowl in 2007.

“I know I’m asking a lot you guys, but Hunker Down One More Time!!!” “Auburn floats a high wobbly pass, and they broke it up, the Dawgs broke it up! Clock running, running, and oh look at the Sugar falling out of the sky!!! Look at the Sugar falling out of the sky!!!”

I hope the men in Red and Black are not reading this blog. Forget the other games. Its Troy today men.Hopefully we wont need no stinking Trojan horses ala a fake run with Stafford turning his back on the OLINE).God I hate that lame play.

Anyway if you guys are going to play the what if game then I get to play to.

I picked Tenn to win the East the first of the season. Hard to find myself saying that. I love the dawgs, but Auburn is coming to us and their defense is stellar at the right time.Maybe we can pull the upset I dont know. I agree with previous writer…Georgia has a better chance of win against the War Eagle and the Wildcat then Tenn has of winning against Ark,Vandy, and Ky.

If we do win the two I hope I am wrong and Tenn drops one.I would want to play LSU. Nothing to be scared about. LSU is not almighty as people would want you to think.

Fact is I cannot think of any team this year that week in and week out dominates. Ohio State plays a truly weak schedule. Do you think they would be undefeated in the SEC. NO WAY! Would Arizona State or Kansas be undefeated in the SEC…NO WAY! Would Oklahoma or Mizzo be 8-1 in the SEC….NO WAY!Add WVirginia, add Boston college…et al. Folks those teams have a row of cream puffs every season. OLE Miss is the worse team in the SEC. And they gave Florida fits. God I would love to have teams like Northwestern,Duke,Indiana,Minnesota,Iowa,Mich State,Illi, on the GA schedule every year. And finish the year with GA Tech. UGA would have a chance to play for the National Championship every year. But no that dream schedule is called Ohio State. Now all you Buckeye fans…I am not saying OSU is not goood. I am just saying you aint going 12-0 in the SEC.Too much competition week in and week out.

Okay ENOUGH. Or you going to have to deal with Loveless. Time to storm some Troy.

We just don’t have the D-Line and linebackers that we’ve had in the past. Hopefully we can fill those holes and have the offense bail us out until we right the ship. Looks like we’re not going to cover. Never pick Richts dawgs to cover a big spread. GO DAWGS!

I don’t know if it’s been said here already but Troy put up 31 on Florida early in the year, when Florida’s D was healthy. So I don’t think there offense is something to discount.

The most important thing is that the team has once again found the will to win and has capitalized on mistakes. I say today was a good W. We could have gone out and laid down like so many top 10 teams have this year.

I would be more surprised if Auburn puts up 30 on us next weekend. No disrespect but even their fans would say they’re a defensive team. I’m sure they’re looking to get us back for the whuppin we put on em last year. Go Dawgs!

I’m know this sounds real delusional, but I just hope tennessee takes another loss, and we run the table, play LSU in the SEC Championship game and win. …. Then somehow oklahoma, oregon, west virginia, kansas, and Missouri, take one more loss, and i think it will happen, we could play in the national championship game with two losses. I know, go ahead and say send me some of that stuff I’m smoking, but with the way this college football season has gone, I just can see it happening. GO DAWGS!
