UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

AJC > Sports > UGA > Blog > Archives > 2007 > October > 27 > Entry

I saw this coming all along.

Just kidding, but Georgia’s 42-30 win over Florida on Saturday was solid and quite reminiscent of the one’s the Bulldogs used to put on the Gators routinely in the 1970s and 1980s.

Knowshon Moreno had 188 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Matthew Stafford threw two long touchdown passes to Mohamed Massaquoi and Mikey Henderson as the Bulldogs beat Florida for the first time since 2004, only the second time in seven years under Mark Richt and for just the third time in the last 18 meetings.

This was not flukey either. The Dogs were clearly highly motivated for this one. And for good reason. Suddenly they’re back in the thick of the SEC race.

As Larry Munson once said, “there’s going to be some property destroyed tonight!”

What do y’all think about it?

Classless. I’ve never quite seen a team actually ADMIT their head coach ordered them to break game rules. Vince Dooley must be cringing. I think this win for Georgia and their behavior has done far worse for the program than a close hard fought loss ever would have.

An admitted order by a head coach to draw unsportsmanlike fouls? Indeed, the NCAA should review this for possible fine or suspension.

Unbelieveable. Im so tired of everyone waffling on Richt. LEts face it, the only reason Fla has had the kinda of dominance over the past few years has been mental and in no way talent. This was an exorcism for a young team that no looks to turn this thing around. There was no taunting of the Fla fans, players, or coaches during the touchdown celebration. Just a TEAM effort to get psyched up. Not an individual one a team effort. The Vandy V incident was taunting and disrespectful. This was the notice to Fla and its fans that the streak ends here.

By MustangPaul

October 29, 2007 8:10 AM | Link to this

G8TRone,

You’re making up facts. Richt did not tell the team to run on the field. He told them to celebrate the TD until they got a flag not intending for the ENTIRE team to leave the bench. He admits his mistake. The players took the celebration too far by taunting the Florida players. That should not have occured.

The fact that he admits this makes him a much classier act than Urban Crier. CUM did a great job of looking like a complete idiot by calling out his players on the sideline and losing it. It was obvious CUM lost his composure and didn’t know how to handle being outplayed. He probably took “Superman’s” cape away to put back with his pajama collection after this one.

It gave the players the emotion and energy they need to hit the Gators in the mouth all afternoon long. Even if they went down, they let the Gators know from the get go that they were in for a fight.

G8TRone…….make sure you wash your jean shorts after you get finished rubbing the tears from your eyes with them. The whole celebration incident was a misinterpretation of a team that had a lot of frustration built up inside of them. It seems to me that you are forgetting that your coach was being classless too when he was trying to justify your defensive lineman when he took a cheap shot at Stafford. Everybody knows that in college football when a player takes a knee the play is dead. Go ahead…. don’t admit it! If you want to talk about classless play talk about that one!

Nice win, good job, but you won “a” game not a National Title, so please take it down a notch. What happened Sat. is the crux of the problem with this dismal program, 3 wins in the last 18 tries against the Gators and all of ao sudden UGA is a “powerhouse,” I do not think so.

This same UGA team allowed the Gators to hang 30 on them, and if not for the Gator’s defensive line getting hurt it could have been different. If you think you are going to beat teams like UK and AU while allowing them to hang 30 or more on you, you are incorrect.

The Gators did break down on defense including their def line and secondary, but not every team you play will be that weak defensively.

Tebow posted better numbers than Stafford and Stafford continues to show his inconsistency with 1 interception for a touchdown and loves to throw while falling back on the right foot.

Nice win, but you have a long ways to go and your chances of even playing for the SEC are slim and none with slim going out the door.

Just remember…”all glory is fleeting.” See you Sat. for another round.

Disrespect? Not a chance! It was brilliant. It fired up the team the likes I haven’t seen in many years. It fired up the fans and showed us that Richt does have a pulse.

Would I have liked it if Florida did it? HELL NO! But I wouldn’t be whining about it. Let’s just hope we don’t make another video (Finally!). That was embarrassing.

To MustangPaul,

Sorry, but I do not buy that they were not told to run onto the field en masse. They were supposedly told to celebrate excessively. However, since seeing a team run as a large group onto the field, all the way to the goal line, to celebrate a touchdown is something I do not think I have ever seen, especially not at the start of a game, what are the odds that every member of that tem had the same out-of-left-field idea? Slim I would say. Someone, perhaps not Richt - an assistant or a team captaion - put that idea in their heads.

As for this firing up the team and the reason they won, please. What it caused was firing Florida up, who answered immediately. This would have negated any early advantage from the emotion of this gimmicky move. To suggest that this move was what it took to get your team fired up to win a game does two things IMO:

  1. It says that your coaching staff is incapable of sufficiently motivating your team.

  2. It takes away from what as obviously a better prepared UGA team with a week off. As bad as I hate to admit it, UGA outplayed UF because and I attribute this to the week off to rest and prepare while UF was playing its third tough game in a row.

I respect Mark Richt the person, but I find this move to be quite cheesy. Something like this could have ultimately wound up creating a brawl in such an emotional game and was not a wise move. I do not think Richt should be suspended, fined, etc. but he should be officially reprimanded by the league, if not the NCAA, and be given a stern talking to by the commissioner.

And no, do not say that I would be seeing this differently if Tech did this against since our position in that series is similar to UGA’s against UF. I would be embarassed and upset with Chan if our team were told to act in that manner.

By JV

October 29, 2007 9:20 AM | Link to this

Disrespect and classiness issues aside, if you need to encourage your team to take a fifteen yard (at least) penalty to insure that they will be fired up, something ain’t right. And it is strategically unsound, too. What good is the touchdown you just got if you practically hand them another? Bad move, coach.

Quit hanging up you cleats whenever you win a big game. Win week in and week out, but show some maturity and knowledge for the game vs. acting like bunch of kids who just won a sandlot baseball game.

Do Flordia fans really think that Florida isn’t going to be just as banged up next year this time? Tebow will still be running as much as he did this year as long as Florida doesn’t have a decent RB (and I don’t see one emerging). There were some defensive injuries but all teams are banged up at this point in the year. Florida just didn’t have the depth to overcome the injuries and Georgia’s game plan did a good job of targeting those injuries.

The most important stat in the GA vs. FLA rivalry? UGA is 1-0 in the rivalry in the only year that currently matters.

Afterall that is why you hired him???..I guarantee he will go back to his boring style of play once again. Mark this win on your calender it won’t happen often..Look at it. What all this boils down to is it looks like the the Thugs that call themselves class acts(jean shorts, mullets, trailor trash, jealous that they didnt come up with it first) have alot of work to do, if they can find time away from dateing their cousins.

Hey GatorGal and every other “Tebow was hurt” fans… Tebow will be hurt in the game again next year! And the year after that! If he even stays that long!

It’s NOT our fault that that fullback for a QB with a decent arm is 80% of your offense! Meyer’s offense does NOT work in the SEC, it’s getting Teablow killed already, as a sophomore!

As for hurt defensive players, thats because we beat the CRAP out of them, that’s football, you pansies!!! For the last decade plus, not only have you had the week prior off, but also, WE were the ones with the injuries and bad bounces, and we ate it for a decade, so you can for a year! You may have won 15 of the last 18, but we are 1-0 against you suckers this year, and have won 47 of 82, so eat it!

Also, our defense gave up 23 against you losers, not 30. Without Stafford’s ONE mistake, we whip you losers by 20.

Gatorgal,, sounds like you are worried about that other week team in your state. Plus I bet if you think back before your first defeat this yr oh how great you guys thought you were. What happen? About your hurt QB, I was there and i saw #15 playing the whole game and that tells me that he wasent hurt. If so why was he on the field? I also see that your not happy now with your defence. ????? WOW. Oh one more thing, how many of your thugs(class act) was arested just this yr?

Response to Mayretta_Dawg:

I just enjoy bantering and watching a group of classless football redneck idiots talk about how they think they won a national title, do could not even polish the shoes of programs like OU, Alabama, or Miami.

Athens has no clue, and hangs up their cleats after squeaking one out over Florida.

  1. Not one Bulldog blogger shows any reasoning or concerns why UF will still able to post 30 on them, or why Tebow had better stats and no interceptions.

  2. Not one Bulldog blogger showing any humility or professional approach to thi win, only classless trailer trash PBR talk.

This is exactly the reason UGA will never be Championship Caliber Material ever again…so enjoy last Sat. as much as you can, because all the Dogbashers are reloading when you lost to AU or KY or both.

It is not over, and plenty of season left to play, so enjoy this week, because it starts over again every Saturday afternoon or evening and the slate is wiped clean.

Just remember Dog Nation: “What goes around, comes around.”

If If’s and Buts were candy and nuts we would all have a great Christmas, but fact of the matter your boy Stafford gave up the interception, thus 6 points.

Gators could say the same thing about being banged up, but they aren’t.

You are the most arrogant, cocky, ignorant group of fans and football program I have ever know. 1 win (3 of 18) and now you are hanging up your cleats after a win over the Gators.

Must I remind you Spurrer hung 52 on you between the hedges, and Fulmer could have hung more on you this year, but you see Tennessee is a respectable program, unlikes UGA who gets a win over a decent program and lights off on everyone and their brother like they won a National Title.

Your program is still in the tank, and CMR will be gone back to Miami in 4 or less to a much better program, and nobody will blame him for leavning.

Arrogant in victory arrogant in defeat. I understand that the Gators don’t like what Richt did, but frankly I don’t care!!!! Listening to all of the ‘we still own you’ we’re going to win the next 10, bla bla bla, reminds me how arrogant your fan base is. CUM is the perfect coach for you. He cusses his players and will play thugs, drug dealers, car thieves, anyone if he thinks he can get the win.

Take this defeat with grace and style then come back next year and prove it on the field. I have a good friend and co-worker who is a UT fan. Before every game his is respectful and we have some friendly back and forth. If we win, he’s a gracious loser. If they win he’s a gracious winner. We won. You lost. Richt broke character one time to change the tone in a series that has been one sided for too many years. You don’t like what he did, come back next year and win the game. Otherwise SHUT UP AND GO HOME!!!

BOBO:

You consider ALL “Dawgfans” to be redneck, “classless trailer trash”…correct? Where did you go to school, and what makes you an expert on all those that actually got a college education? The fact of the matter is that Florida lost the game. Yes they got 30 points in the game. We have never claimed to have the top defense in the nation or the top offense for that matter. We came to win and that is exactly what we did. As far as all of this national championship talk, what is it for, to see who has the bigger balls? Here you go BOBO in black and white:

OU - Good team, I dont think they are the best in the nation, but a good team overall.

Alabama - Has always been a contender in the SEC. Is a great team this year.

Miami - Was a great team. Had great stats and championship after championship.

So what is your point exactly? College football goes up and down like a roller coaster. Any team with the want to win (and a decent team.) can win. Every team has a bad year or years. There is not one team that has been good EVERY year.

It sounds to me like you have some kind of grudge with the UGA fans, not the team or its coaching staff. There are dumb “redneck”, PBR fans for every team in the nation.

As far as your comment about Gator fans not saying anything about their injuries, you might want to go and read through these blogs again. All I hear on here is how the Gators were injured and Tebow was injured and that is the only reason why UGA won.

Year in and year out all UGA fans hear is how we cry about the loss that we get with Florida. We finally pull it together for a win and Gator fans go into a huge frenzy. I have never once though that Tim Tebow was a horrible Quarterback…He is in the run for the Heismann, but if you look at Stafford and Tebow side by side, Stafford is the better quarterback…statistically.

Did UGA have better stats than UF on Saturday…NO, but did UGA beat UF on Saturday…YES. It was a well matched game that should be expected between teams of this caliber.

Does UGA think that they are invincible now? Hell No! We have AU and KY left in our schedule. No one has ever said that this year was going to be easy for UGA, but they needed some momentum and they got it through the win over UF. Each game is a challenge for any team, and if you walk in to a game and assume you are going to win, you have already lost.

UGA put their heart and soul into the game with UF, and came out victorious. Why must those that are upset about the win take a momentous occasion and turn it to trash? That is for both sides of this.

Any UGA fan should have just said that it was a good game and left it at that, because that is what it was….A GOOD Game. As for UF fans, you should just say the same thing. Why must we all try to make another team feel belittled over a loss?

Great Game Dawgs! You played your hearts out!

Gators, great game as well. UGA was just the better team this year. See you guys again next year! Always a great time in Jacksonville!

Now this is how this “Redneck” PBR drinking Georgia fan tells it like it is. Take or leave it, but with what you have been writing all along on here I am assuming you will try to blast me too….just to get some attention. Have at it…It only means that I am right!

Bobo, if what you say is true, you just have no life. You know nothing about Georgia football…you said earlier that we would open the season next year in Stillwater? Check the schedule, idiot. When you know more about our program, players, and coaches, I may listen to you, but until then, you are nothing more than a p** off mindless bantering lunatic thats just unhappy that we beat a rival on Saturday. Spurrier hung 52 on us because he RAN up the score(speaking of class and arrogance)

The Gator PLAYERS may not be saying anything about being banged up, because who knows a player that would say that? But their FANS are, you idiot, look at what is being said.

Get out of here and stop wasting our time.

Mr. BoBo (AKA…Idiot)

First of all, you only wish you were Mike Bobo but you are merely a shell of the man that he is and the other UGS coaches. It must suck to be you…not having a job and all and no friends….just a lonely computer with which to blog on all day, while the rest of the world works to pay for your food stamps. Your only hope is that surely someone, anyone, will agree with your opinion and that somehow will make you feel complete in your manhood. Truth is…you have to have balls to be a man. Mike Bobo has balls and guts. My friend…you are no Mike Bobo. Obviously you are just another loser and that my friend is the true sign of someone that has NO CLASS. GO DAWGS!

Once again my friends you are getting away from the point. Georgia is Mediocre and always will be. You will win an average of 8 to 9 games a year. That’s defintely something to look forward too. As for us not liking Urban Meyer, we are about business and winning games as long as he is utilizing the talent that he has we have no problem, when we see a problem we take action…Thats why we win…Unfortunately for Georgia, you are content with a mediocre program, coach, and season..Like I said Happy Trails..Georgia will always be a disappoitment to their fans for a mediocre season as you have had consistently with no turnaround. GOOD job u guys…lol! What a joke UGA is…lol!

Dear GatorGal (AKA Blue Jean Shorts, bleached blond, snaggled tooth hussy)

It’s been 4 days since the game and you’re still drunk and delusional. Did you not see the scoreboard Saturday? The superior team (UGA) and coach (Mark Richt) won 42 to 30. You define mediocre as winning 8 or 9 games a year. Your “Mighty” GayTors lost 3 of the 4 games they played in October. I’ll break it down for you. That means they only won 25% of their games in October. That sounds worse than mediocrity to me. Also, if you look at the schedule posted on floridagators.com you’ll notice you’ve played 8 games, 5 wins and 3 loses….on track to be less than mediocre my dear. Hopefully you’ll finish above 500. Even if your “Mighty” GayTors won their remaining scheduled games, which by the way…you can take the SEC Championship game off that posted schedule as well as the National Championship game also posted on your website schedule. It ain’t happening! You ain’t going. You can call the Waffle House and tell them that you no longer need those days off. By the way…of the 83 times Georgia and Florida have played each other in football, Georgia leads Florida 46 to 37. It must suck to be a GayTor this year! GO DAWGS!!! GO DAWGS!!!
