UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Game had all the markings of a trap

Georgia was in a real dog fight until scoring the final 28 points to defeat Ole Miss 45-17 Saturday in Athens.

Can’t say I was real surprised. This game had all the markings of a trap, what with Ole Miss coming off an impressive performance against the defending national champions, the Bulldogs coming off their emotional overtime win at Alabama and Georgia at Tennessee next Saturday. That and this being a 1 p.m. kickoff and non-televised game, there was bound to not be the electric atmosphere you usually encounter for a Southeastern Conference contest.

Georgia was very, very, very fortunate not to be down in this game. The game was tied 17-all in the third quarter but the Bulldogs hadn’t really stopped Ole Miss all day at that point.

Thomas Brown ran for 180 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs picked up 328 yards rushing.

Tennessee awaits.

Good Game. It is ok to have a competitive game every so often. Ole Miss played very well.

I do have a problem with Mr. Tripp Chandler. He dropped more passes today. Had he caught the ball on our 2nd drive, we would not had to go for it on 4th down, and Miss would not have driven the length of the field.

He has become a liablity. But CMR has some kind of affection for him, because he continues to play.

When we lose a really important game because of him, CMR will shrug and say “Ah Shucks! He is a really great gut ole Tripp, but sometimes don’t go the way you like em’. We’ll get em’ next time.”

From the point of your post, UGA “won” 28 - 0. Why and How???

Superior depth? Improved play as the game went along? O and D “settling in” to Ole Miss’ tendencies?

Obviously Chip your fears were unfounded. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see it but I did hear it on Ole Miss radio. I was very impressed with T Brown and the running game overall. From what I could tell it seemed to be the Dawgs depth and talent that helped push over Ole Miss. I continue to be impressed by this young team. Stafford is probably still a few games away from directing a prolific offense but that second half was mighty impressive. Bring on the Great Tennessee pumpkin.

Kudos to T Chandler. I’m glad he got the drop monkey off his back.

1.Caleb King is offically red-shirted. (Walk-on running back gets playing time in 4th quarter) 2.Bend but don’t break defense will come back to bit against the upper tier teams. Why recruit blue-chip players only to harness their ability by playing a passive scheme. 3.Georgia needs to practice throwing downfield. Stafford throws hard darts with poor timing and touch.

Things I learned today:

Our O-Line is weak.

Our D-line is weaker.

Ole Miss didn’t punt one time (i think).

Knowshon Moreno is this team’s emotional leader (sorry kelin).

Whoever’s idea it was to play “Soulja Boy” should get a big raise-watching all the players dance and have a good time on the field was awesome.

Thomas Brown tore his ACL?

Brannan Southerland needs to either play defense or special teams-as well as offense.

Good use of timeouts (quick turn around Matthew)…in other words we didn’t use them as toilet paper

This is all…time to get drunk

I’m still reeling that this game wasn’t televised (even on PPV)…thank god they televised the S.C. vs. MSU game…I’d rather watch my toilet flush.

Glad to see Brown come out with a heeluva game…we’ll have plenty of time to see Moreno’s highlights, but Brown is the definition of a Dawg.

I find it hard to believe that their isn’t anyone else on this team that can compete for the tight end job. UGA has a tradition (as recent as it may be) of great tight ends. I feel for Tripp, but every team needs a backup and I think it’s time for Tripp to see how it feels watching the game. I’ve seen some brilliant plays from him and sitting down may light a fire under his @ss to work on his consistency…I’m behind you buddy, but it is a privilege to play on that team and you gotta appreciate it. Go Dogs, Sic TN

Man did they finish the drill today.Great game by T Brown, congratulations to him.The defense looked real shakey thru two and a half quarters then they shut the gates tight.Looking ahead, if the team gets past Tenn I don’t see a game that’s not winnable, including Florida.W Virginia lost,as did Oklahoma,Texas is 10 back,Cal is playing Oregon so one of them will lose.Wisconsin and Rutgers are both in tough games. All of these teams are ranked ahead of us so we’ll move higher than 15th come monday and could crack the top 10 if things fall into place. With our schedule, just win and the ranking will continue to rise.

well, i haven’t posted this year until now… but I couldn’t help but think about the 3rd and 19 run play we scored on in the first half…. I was thinking about our embarrassing “fans” that would have blasted Coach Richt/Bobo if that hadn’t have worked (win or lose). I’m sure now our fans will be somewhat pleased but they’ll always find something negative to say about our Dawgs and coaching decisions… I’m waiting for the negativity to begin with picky observations on 19-22 year-olds that are supposed to be perfect and blow-out every SEC opponent along with coaches that are some of the best in the country and study film and opponents ALL WEEK (unlike you that work a regular job all week and just read biased opinions in the paper). I love these Dawgs as I do EVERY year and I love our coach probably more than any other coach UGA has ever had (that’s right, I said it… and I don’t think I’ll go to Hell for it either). You can blast him all you want for this-and-that, but the game is different now - limited scholarships, limited cheating (Bama has succumbed to paying for a national championship now that people watch them on breaking the rules like they did with the Bear). I still think we have a great chance to finish strong this year. I also know everyone is looking for next year to be “the year” but so is UF, UA, LSU… and our schedule is extremely tough next year. So don’t hang anyone if it doesn’t happen all of you embarrassing people who call themselves UGA fans (enjoy cheering for your team regardless - it’s a priviledge). Remember, you wouldn’t be this spoiled in our modern era if it wasn’t for Coach Richt. Go Dawgs!

Great job by the offense. I am seriously concerned about our defense, I don’t think that we could have stopped the three blind mice today until the 4th quarter. We were significantly outplayed on the lines (both sides) and I hope that this doesn’t have a carryover effect for the next few weeks. I have to admit that I was one of the many calling for Knowshon to be the starter, but TB looked really good today, we just have to carry this over next week. Undefeated at Neylan under CMR, so lets keep this streak alive.

I have had to defend T BROWN more than a few times on this blog- Well today you can kiss my Bulldog rump! 11 yards everytime he touched the ball!

Now, I must say that on at least two plays (if I had not seen the jersey number) I would have sworn it was Moreno. I think this “old dog” has learned some new tricks!

When Moreno went down hard and came up slow I was very concerned. What an awesome guy to hop up and run back to the sideline- What a crowd pleaser.

embarrassed, I have a company that handles over 3000 customers per day. We screw up probably about 20 per day. I get those phone calls. I don’t take it personally and I remind myself that the other 2980 customers were taken care of very well. And oh by the way, none of them called to tell me what a great job my guys were doing. Complainers will always outnumber the high-fivers. That is the way of life. If you think Bulldawg Nation is a bunch of complainers, you are more wrong than you could ever realize. The whiners are the ones that write or otherwise vocalize their complaints. Pay them no heed. The coaches don’t and neither do I.

Great game! I just hope the Dawgs wake up in the FIRST QUARTER for the rest of our games.

Having only listened to the game, it seems to me that our D-Line could not get a hand on their QB. Especially on that 9+ minute scoring drive they had in the 3rd. Did we even record a sack?

If we give Ainge that kind of time, I’m sure he’ll do even more damage to us.

embarrassed:

Well written and I agree with your post. As I mentioned on the last blog: Who would have thought that we’d be running a walk-on RB at the end of an SEC tilt that was tied midway through the third quarter? Then a heartwarming story on the postgame show about the kid from Lyons who got in on a tackle after begging to just get in the game.

Such actions define Mark Richt. Many of these fairweather ‘fans’ would rather have a hardcore coach with a killer instinct, who piles on the points while leaving the starters in after the game is well out of reach.

Then there are the dilusionists who blame our offensive woes on the defense, and vice-versa. If we don’t win it all every year we need a new coaching staff. Blah, blah, freaking blah.

Several other ranked teams had similar toughies this weekend. From #4 on down to us all struggled mightily. Charlie Weis, the Catholic savior, is 0-5 at ND. WE HAVE A GREAT COACHING STAFF HERE IN ATHENS! Like Cuz says, get a drink and enjoy the ride. Things could be a LOT worse.

UGA has the best SEC record in the CMR era. If you can’t accept that then you need to “exit the program” now. Good follow-up Cuz. I’ll drink to that! GO DAWGS!!

Thanks Merf, great blog about me, uh I mean the Dawgs. Us regulars know that most of the negative comments come from the posers, the Tech, Gator, and Lamecock fans that pretend to be Dawgs to try and upset us. At least White and Gold has the courage to admit he is a Tech fan. Sure he hurls mostly insults, but I breeze by them. He did say some nice things about my daughter last week and I appreciated it. Sure this was fun, but folks, it is only a game designed to keep us from dwelling on the really tough situations that we find ourselves in on a daily basis. Enjoy the win, but stay grounded and yes it is more fun to win than lose.

Now Go Dawgs!!!!

Each time I doubt Coach Richt, I’m shown why he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to UGA. I was one of those that said Coach Richt was too conservative against Alabama. I will remain HumbleDawg to remind me that there is more to Coach Richt than that. His decision to stick with Thomas Brown was masterful and his point about wanting your leaders to be starters makes perfect sense.

Win or lose I will remember that Coach Richt has demonstrated over and over that his decision making is sound and makes sense. One thing that was never an issue and is Coach Richt’s greatest asset is these kids know he truly cares about each one of them and because of that, I think they would run through walls for him. Congratulations Dawgs on a great win and best of luck against those nasty Vols next week. Win or lose…we’re proud of you and proud of this coaching staff.

Can anybody tell us more about Kalvin Daniels?

UGA roster on UGA.edu site says he was all-state and a highly ranked PUNTER and also says he is a 180 pound offensive lineman, which seems impossible even at the high school level. Anybody got the scoop?

Is brother Jason Johnson hurt?

By Joey

September 29, 2007 8:01 PM | Link to this

Kalvin was an all state running back at Dodge County and a very good student. He turned down a scholarship at GA Southern to come to UGA as a preferred walkon. Injuries to Lump and Johnson have allowed for some early PT in mop up time.

4-1 and ranked in the top 10 or #11 at worst… that is not a bad place to be for this team… not bad at all.

Where are all the UGA bashers that were predicting 0-2 and 7 losses? Are any of them man enough to say they were wrong?

Changing gears. The biggest story in college football is how four mighty programs have fallen so far in the last five years.

Miami, Fl State, Nebraska, and Notre Dame are shells of their former selves. Can anyone name the last time any of these schools have beaten a ranked opponent? Have any of them gotten a bowl win in the last four years?

These once proud programs used to live in the top 10 and struck fear into opponents on their schedule. Now opposing teams look at the game as a pretty easy “W”. Have any of them finished a season ranked in the top 25 in the last four years?

You don’t really read any newspaper or magazine articles about just how far these four formerly great programs have fallen, and you don’t hear it discussed by talking heads at ESPN, but it is the biggest story in college football over the last five years.

Chip, the blog needs to be updated. I think you should have waited just a bit longer before hitting “send.” In any case, Dawgs kick them around, and our running game shines. This would be a perfect time to pull out a few surprise passing plays since the DC for fat-boy Fulmer will be all focused on our backs.

By the way, Notre Dame sucks. If any other 0-4 team were playing today, they would not have been on a prime TV game. Lame, lame, lame. They will probably be 0-11 and be in the running for a Jan 1 bowl game.

Notre Dame, rhymes with shame. This is not, nor has not for a long time, been the team I watched in 1980. We were ranked #1 they because of a loss to USC after bowl bids went out were somewhere around five, maybe as far back as ten. We were undefeated, they had one loss, one tie to GT. Most prolific pundits picked them to wax our rear ends. No running back that year had even made it to the century mark against their defence. On the second play of the game Herschel seperated his shoulder. He went to the trainer and said, put it back in. The trainer popped it, Herschel went back in and gained 150 yards against the best rush defence in the country that year.

Now, oh please can we schedule a home and away. Times have changed…

I had to entertain clients today. Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing to unretire, but it has been a great year. Like anything else work can’t be a success if it is done half way.

Georgia wins when we run the ball more than 50%. We lose when we don’t.

We have the most success when we run 60% or more.

These statistics are empirical. It has been true without exception during the Richt era. I believe we would have won against South Carolina if we had not abandoned the run. It was working.

I am not in love with statistics per se, but sometimes they reveal fundamental truths. We have very talented running backs and by using them it makes the passing game more effective. Plus, we have fewer turnovers.

I’m not suggesting in the least we abandon the passing game, but run the ball 60% or more! Especially with Tennessee’s problems with the running game.

buck,i was at the game and depth was a factor.ole miss took it to us in the first half with the run,big tough back, and short passes.we pounded them with the run.thomas brown broke it open in the second half with a 41 yd td run.that seemed to take the starch out of ole miss and we poured it on them,it was sunny and hot and the old miss guys just wore down.moreno had a couple of nice runs and receptions, but it was brown’s day.i am proud for him,he sure earned it.henderson and momass had some nice catches, they had bailey covered pretty well.i thought allen played well for the d,miller had a key int,lbs played well, and howard.our d is going to be a great one,as is our o line.moreno,it goes without saying.stafford didn’t do anything really great, but managed the game well, and didn’t have any screw ups.beautiful day, stadium packed with red, pretty greek girls all in black dresses, crowd loud and having fun,big dawgs win,i wish you could have been there with us.there was a couple from miss sitting behind us.they were yelling and pulling hard for their team, but were very polite to my friend and i.well raised southern young people.it was a pleasure to watch a football game with them.my compliments to the magnolia state for teaching young people to say sir and maam and to hold a lady’s drink and food for her to sit down.

Can’t ask for much more and we know the pass is there if needed……..Reptiles down!!!…..Now, one game at a time so it’s Vol time. I have no idea what the problem is on “D” but this is two in a row where the other team has driven the field, held the ball and we couldn’t make a stop until the 4th qt. Don’t know what we changed but we must stop messing up. A break is lucky only if you’re prepared to take advantage of it. I think a 96 yd. falls into the “take advantage of” class.

Urban Meyer showed what kind of “man” he is when he waited to call a timeout until the ball was being snapped for the winning field goal. Talk about trying to “ice” the freshman kicker. It’s one thing to call the T.O. as the teams line up, but to wait until the snap? Dirty, filthy b*******! You got what you deserved.

And now the mighty Gators travel to LSU next. As young as we are, there is no reason we should lose to these guys, especially after having the week off before the “party”.

I just hope our young guys can see that any ranked team can lose on any given Saturday, and that UT will be ready and rested after this (bye) week.

buck, actually the d played pretty well, got ole miss in third and long several times in the first quater,BUT,didn’t capitilize on the situation, ole miss had something to do with that, they executed.however, our d needs to learn when and how to stick in the knife.it seems they work their tails off to put a team in a low% situation, then give up a first down.i DO see improvment every week though, and one day things will come together for them.i think i saw a turning point reached in that second half,a couple of guys made plays and fired up the whole d and they shut’em down!that’s what it will take, just somebody stepping up and making plays.WAR EAGLE,congrats, and thanks,i did not think au was going to pull it out.i hadn’t given au much love this year,i thought they would challenge lsu, then the stretch of sub-par play.well you may have a chance now.great win!

Excited about the upcoming game in Knoxville. From watching the game today, the defense needs to put pressure on the QB (could be that Ole Miss line averages 335 lbs per lineman..thats huge). If Ainge has that much time in the pocket, he will pick apart our suspect zone defense. By the way, what a day in college football. Look to see the dogs in the top 10 after Shake-up Saturday.

Ode to the Auburn Tigers (by a Georgia fan).

Oh Auburn fans, Oh Auburn fans, How lovely are your orange and blue. So much lovelier than Florida’s shades, Of those same colors, yes, it’s true.

We Dog fans stand a bit in awe, How did you do it yet again? We never thought you would escape from Florida with the win.

Your kicker had to kick it twice, but straight and strong it flew, We so loved how he did the chomp After he nailed it through.

Could you give us a few tips Before we take on Meyer? As I’m quite sure you know, Our need to win is dire.

If you will this kindness show, We promise we’ll come through, And return the favor when you come to town… …Just beat you by a few.

Dog44,

Awesome guy. Great day. With all the upsets today, can’t complain at all about the game between the hedges. Ole Miss showed what they could do last week and that damn offensive line looked like a platoon of Tiger Tanks.

Great win War Eagle. And I loved the Gator Chomp by the young kicker. What’s with LSU and the White Helmets and white pants today in the Super Dome? Looked strange.

shane, Granny is caring on about Colt McCoy and int’s. I wonder what people are going to jump Stafford about this week? Reptiles are hurting because they don’t have a RB so AU was able to put a lot of guys on Tebow and the results showed. BTW, I don’t understand why Meyer is some kind of bad guy for waiting until the last nanosecond to call that last TO. I thought it was smart coaching if you’re trying to “ICE” the kicker and wasn’t it great the Kid gave Reptile fans the Reptile chant in their face. That IMO was the play of the day.

Congrats War Eagle, that was a heck of a game.

Too many top teams went down this week. That goes to show ya, anybody can be beaten on any given day. We can’t take any team lightly at all.

I’m a little concerned about our D on third down conversions. Ole Miss killed us on 3rd downs. We have to straightened this major issue before Tenn. We’ve got to pressure Ainge consistently and shut down their running game first.

Our o-line held up pretty good. Nice to see those big yards on the ground.

I hope Kelin Johnson will play.

Dadgumit, I wish our fans would quit booing our players. C’mon, these are just kids playing the “game”. Some of you don’t realize booing the players could hurt our recruiting.

we are watching replays in our room, they were showing cal-ore,my lady friend’s comment on oregon’s ugly uniforms,”they look like ninja turtles”. i said last week that uf’s problem is their rbs,the best two are a qb and a wr. a team has to stop tim and percy, not easy, but it can be done with a good d.ole miss has a good d,just not deep.auburn has a good d,and our d is getting there,uf is definately beatable.how about the beastly east, first wv and louisville, then wv and rutgers, who will be the beast in the east now?

After further review of video, props to the big boys. The O-line blocked better than I’ve seen them do in a long while. The run blocking down field by Clint Boling,Ben Harden,Chris Davis and Trenton Strudivant was pretty impressive. The word that came to mind watching Brown was liberated. He was running loose and determined. It’s uncanny with his build how much he looked like Moreno.I think(hope) this could be a watershed game that raises the running game to being a true force going forward.

War Tigers and Yellerbackets back on a Dawg blog? Gees! I guess they found a way to win. I’ll give the War Tigers their due. I thought Ole Miss made the Lizards look pretty vulnerable. Up till last night, I thought Auburn looked fairly clueless out on the field. As it turned out, the War Tigers made the Lizards look clueless. Go figure! Guess losing to USF wasn’t so bad! Earth to GT (ESP WHITEANDGOLD)! Have not the Yellerbackets lost two games already? Didn’t they lose to a team that might lose six games? You got Reggie Ball in white-face at QB and you think you’re top 10 worthy? Come the November date in ATL, the Dawgs will not have 4 losses! They’re consider it disgraceful to have 2 losses! Guess it’s hard for the Dawg Nation to consider 9-4 a great season!

I’ll take the win and huge rush yards. But guys, I’m a little concerned about the D. Rebels annihilated our D on 3rd downs. The D spent too much time on the field. Tenn are capable of moving the ball pretty well. We’ve got to get it together.

Lets make it 4 in a row in K-town.

Chandler will be ok. He had the best hands on the team the first three games. Tight ends do much more than catch the ball. The running game wouldn’t be nearly as successful without your best blocking tight end playing. If fans get off his back, he’ll be fine. He’s just a kid

The DAWGS are progressively maturing each week and this is critical going into the meat of our schedule. Tenn and Phat Fhulmer must be wondering are we gonna pass or run with the new formations we run. Bobo has done a BRILLIANT job disguising our formations whereby the DC on the opposing hasn’t a clue to what we are running. Last several years it seemed we were very predictable as to what we were going to do. I know Tenn is coming off a by-week and has plenty of time to prepare, but you gotta love our chances as their defense has more holes than a good bar of swiss cheese.

Speaking of by-weeks, why the hell does UGA always get the shaft of by-weeks with both Tenn and Fla. It seems they (FLA & Tenn) always have a by-week leading up to our game and I’m wondering who (SEC or AD) in the heck allows this to happen on such big intra-division games? Anybody out there have an answer or could shed a little light on that one?

Lastly, I’m a DAWG stuck in Jacksonville and have to endure all of these OBNOXIOUS GAYTOR fans and must give a huge shout out to the Auburn Tigers for finally laying some wood on the beloved Gaytors. I can deal with the fact UFL actually does have a very good (almost great) football team with a very good coach, because they do, but its absolutely disgusting the way these fans act and carry their Mullet-head, trash talking, sister kissing a*******e$ around and need to be brought down a few notches. Thanks to the AUBURN TIGERS (2nd fav team in SEC)and hopefully LSU, SC, and UGA will oblige the Gaytors with the same. GO DAWGS and keep the Knoxville trend going and send the 105K back to their Jed Clampett sheds!

I’m a little scared now. Tebow and the Crier are MAD. Tebow may decide to run right through LSU’s entire D next week. Right up the middle for 10 yards a pop. If an All American Senior LB approaches, Tebow will simply lower his head and proceed to run him over. I predict that just to punish LSU and hush the crowd next week, the Crier will run Tebow right between the guard and center 30 times for 250 yards.

Does anyone remember Senior ALL-American LaRon Landry (now in the NFL) last year and his feeble attempt to take down Mad Timmy, the freshman, at the goal line?

That Spread is genius. Let’s hope Tebow and the Crier cool down after this embarrassing loss to AU and take it easy on the rest of the conference. Remember, this is an extremely young Gaytor team, starting 66% under classmen. This may be a rebuilding year. 10-2 is possible. Let’s hope the Dawgs can figure out how to stop that tricky play with Tebow. I think the Crier calls it “Timmy up the gut for 12.” Auburn did a great job against it last night. What did Tebow wind up with, 90 yds?

In honor of my friend Buck in the Northwest, I started writing Cuz in the Midwest during our stay. To let others that might have missed us getting back I started posting as Cuz on the Savannah. I have a UN observation post here in Augusta where I can keep an eye on the hencoop. I don’t actually live on the banks of the Savannah. A great Saturday in Athens. Some observations: 1. The 1 pm kickoff time was a nice change, like the old days. The crowd is definitely better behaved. 2. Thomas Brown showed he deserves to start. What a game. And to have a back like Moreno to rotate in has to be wearing on the other team. 3. To boo our players shows NO class. What a shame, and what do recruits in attendance think? 4. The left side of our defense has some major problems stopping the run. Too light at defensive end?

Very happy for Auburn and love seeing the jean-short, gold chains, wife beater t-shirt wearing gators get smacked around AT HOME! We beat Bama, and you beat Florida. I will take that deal any day!

Can’t wait for this Saturday. Tennessee has had a rough year so far and a week off. I expect them to come in with something to prove, so I hope our team remembers them running up the score last year and lays the wood on them.

Finally, I don’t know many people who have been down on Brown. If they have, then screw them. The Sho-Bro combo is potent, and I think Brown (as a senior and GA boy) is welcome to the starting job. Whoever earns it, and he earned it this week in a big way. I think true Dawg fans are thrilled to have as many RBs with 100+ yards / game as want in the game. Go Dawgs!

Has anyone seen the rankings yet?? What a joke…UGA only moved up 4 spots when 7 teams ahead of them lost. UF and OU get beat by unranked teams and don’t fall out of the top 10. And the worst is that S.C. jumped us in the AP yet we had a larger margin of victory. Makes no sense to me.

Booing. Look, these guys aren’t playing in your local Little League. Chandler isn’t a freshman trying to earn playing time. He’s dropped pass after pass and like CMR said, he doesn’t like it but he understands a fans frustration as long as it’s not something personal. Didn’t that same crowd give Chandler a standing ovation when he came off the field? I think we should make a game out of the booing, you know like when a player gets a standing “O” play some shaking and baking music, make the whole thing fun. The fans grew up some IMO by giving him the standing “O”. If a player’s ego is so fragile at this level of play then he’ll let a whole lot of thing break his concentration. If Chandler can laugh about the whole thing I can also.

What a break! All we have to do is take care of business (with a much more mature team) the rest of the way and paradise awaits. The Gamecocks can easily lose (Fla. KY) and I like our chances against Kentucky. We are better against a pass happy team than one with a power running game. That is why we will beat the reptiles. Florida is going down in Jacksonville… “as God is my witness we will never be hungry again…” Are the Dogs likely to win out and beat LSU in the dome… no. But they could… and that is hope. It is, however, likely that we can beat the Vols and Gators in the same year. That has not happened in a long time. Praise the Lord and pass the bourbon… it is going to be a fun ride.

I’m stopping by the old UGA Blog to take my lumps in the aftermath of Gators’ loss to Auburn last. For those of you who know me, I say “congratulations to the Tigers; your kids were the better team on the field for the second year in a row.”

To those among us who seek vicarious pleasure in the Tigers’ win over the Gators, I will simply note that there remains a great deal of SEC football still to play, and that such comments are of the some character as the Jacket bloggers’ delight in other teams’ wins over the Dawgs.

As for commentary about the Tigers’ win and the Gators’ loss, I note that in a closely fought SEC game against a traditionally strong rival, several young players’ lack of discipline probably did the Gators in more than anything else. While the penalty totals were not shocking, there were two personal fouls committed for 15-yard penalties; one stopped a key drive by the Gators, and the other sustained scoring drive by the Tigers. Stupid, rookie mistakes. This takes nothing away from the Tigers’ worthy effort and victory, but detracts a great deal from the Gators’ overall team effort that could have made the difference. The Gators’ on-the-field discipline needs to be addressed by Coach Meyer.

Kudos to CTT and the AU Tigers. They did what they had to do to win a tough one on the road.

Atalanta Gator I kind of agree with you about the vicarious cheering against UF.My concern is whether our guys can get the job done in Jacksonville. There’s way too much business ahead to be looking at that game at all right now though. The lesson the Dawgs need to take away from Auburn’s win is UF is just a team and if we can get over the psychological baggage and just play the game to win, there’s no reason we can’t have a real shot at winning.

Florida is overrated. There, I said it. Sue me. The teams they’ve played have a record of 12-12 (including a D-1aa team). They’ve played noone, but still have a loss. They still have four top 25 teams to play and a rivalry game against a resurgent FSU. Tebow will get his big numbers because their offense is a one man show, but Auburn cracked the code. Last night was just the first of several losses.

I really don’t feel Florida losing is any vindication of anything for us Dawg fans.If anything it underscores how other teams SC,Auburn,Miss,Tenn,Alabama, etc show up without the assumption of losing to these guys.If it would help shed this bs attitude I’d say bring in a sports psychologist or hypnotist.I’m kidding….sort of,but it does seem there’s an air of inevitability that needs to be purged.Oh, we still have Tenn this week don’t we ?

Florida=overrated We’ll get our shot at Florida. The only team in the country who I’m sure has better talent than us is USC.I just don’t want to get caught up in hoping they’re weak enough to beat.I want our guys to first, win the games on the schedule before UF, then go down there prepared and confident in THEIR ability to play with the best.

Buck,Altamaha,Somoan,Shane all you real football guys….this blog needs your input.Buck I couldn’t agree more about the booing.Chandler sure heard them yesterday,he said so in an interview. He also said it bothered him to hear it in Athens.

Florida=Overrated, I agree with you about Florida. They have more talent in SEC except LSU, but they are not mentally tough yet and young.. They will lose to LSU and UGA. UGA can be nasty if they can maintain their running game and catch the ball. Auburn will improve, but hopefully win 7 or 8 games. We play a very tough schedule, first 5 opponents 15-5 with 6 in top 25. Playing at Ark. UGA and LSU is not a walk in the park.

I pull for all SEC teams as well when they play out-of-conference games.

I’m definitely not looking past Kentucky this week. This game could go either way. I just think that it’s going to go our way. :)

WarEagle, nice game by Cox… He really zipped the ball on the money. D-fence hit TeeBoy low and made him pay for running.. Hope we keep getting better too… GO DAWGS

Congratulations WarEagle,we could use some of that mojo. Some of you have seen this already. It looks like Thomas Brown helped bring another Thomas to Athens. After watching the game Carlton Thomas a running back from Frostproof Florida committed to UGA.The guy is listed at 5’7” 175 with 4.5 speed. He gained 2283 yds with 25 tds his junior season. The kid looks really good on video. To me he looks alot like Thomas did saturday. He looks to me like a very good open field runner, he cuts real sharp and quick without slowing down.

If you like to watch runners you’ve got to download this Thomas kid.He don’t weigh a ton but he’s a ton of fun to watch. He has some of the best feet you’ll ever see.If you have scout or rivals fine but he’s got some good stuff on you tube too. This is WOW stuff.

Wow….funny how I see all kinds of stuff about DAWGS wil lbeat the Gators…..I thought the whole entire season humg on our trip this weekend. I hope we get our pass defense in order. Ainge carved us up last year like a Halloween pumpkin. Great game on Saturday though…..started very very slow. I bet Vols come out running ball though. This GAME IS THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR…..100 TIMES BIGGER THAN BAMA NOW THAT THE GATORS HAVE LOST. Also I thin we are ranked right at where we are supposed to be….maybe a little bit over ranked…I see us at 13-15. But that is why they play. Good Luck to the DAWGS…..Here is to a great week of practice…..getting focused and going on the raod to play a very very togh UT team. Their 2 losses are against TOP 10 Teams. UT is still UT and can score points and play geat SEC football. Good Luck DAWGS!!!!!!!

D.Ellis…I hope you’ll re-post what you just said several times this week because you just,IMO, nailed it. 3 teams have put together time consuming loooog drives against us and if the Dawgs are thinking about anything except the Vols, we’ll be in real trouble…….one game at a time……please re-post.

War Eagle, Congrats on a great another great victory over the reptiles. Do you think Tuberville will sell us UF’s number. Now will somebody tell us who exactly was wearing Cox’s uniforms this weekend? I saw the stats and they were lights out crazy.

Way to go Thomas Brown and the O-line. 329 on the ground? Insane. Doesn’t matter how we get it done, just get it done. Don’t know how carzy this season is going to get. Kentucky in the top 10, congrats to the Wildcats.

The pass defense broke down in the second half of last year’s Tenn game.I don’t see where they’ve been all that susceptible to long pass plays so far this season though. The one long td pass Adams hit to Wallace saturday was very well defended by Asher Allen,it was just a hell of a throw and catch.I may be missing something but I can’t remember another one like it so far.Coming into the game they’d only given up ONE PASSING TD all season so I couldn’t have missed much.No doubt this week is the most important as is every week because it’s the one in front of us.I don’t buy that it’s bigger than the Alabama game though, again accept for being the one up next…..eyes on the prize.

Chip. You should probably get something up in print and online about the Dawgs having the #2 recruiting class in the country now. This is a big deal.

DAWGS If you like to check out recruits the kid who commited sat Carlton Thomas has the best feet of any rb I’ve seen at UGA imo and I’ve seen them all since Willie Mclendon in the seventies. There’s a long video of him on you-tube.It’s impossible to know how he’ll handle the big fast defenders at this level (he’s 5’7” 175) but I have no doubt he’s a unique talent.

Guess who mutts? WhiteAndGold is back! So, we got back on track by pummeling that crappy clemson bunch as I said we would. Boy, they suck! Now thats out of the way, I really dont see us losing to anyone else. I cant wait til ya’ll come to the hive. Our defense is so awesome and Tashard is back to kicking major a$$. Ya’ll stand no chance.

Buck, you are correct sir, about the play of the day.

BTW, do you get the Mark Richt Show out there? I used to have to see it at midnight right here in dawg country, so I can imagine when you might. Seems like either Turner, or Fox Sport South starter carrying it at a reasonable time. Interesting what he thought the turning point of our game was.

I thought Larry sounded much better than the previous games too.

Jbo-

That was a good win by Fl State, but it kind of makes my overall point…these four programs used to live in the top 10 and even top 5 and now we are congratulating them for beating #22 at home by one score.

The old FL State would have crushed this Bamma team.

Notre Dame may have finished in the top 25 the last two years, but they have gotten blown out in… is it six straight games? Can you imagine Lou Holtz ND teams getting blown out in two consecutive game let alone 6?

In the 80’s and most of the 90’s, if you had Miami on your schedule, you knew that would be one tough game and they would probably be ranked in the top 10 when you played them…now it isn’t any scarier than a Arizona State or a Maryland.

Altahama, thanks for the kind words. I’m going to see if …georgiadogs.com carries it. I don’t know what time or day the show is on……War Eagle, I thought your guy doing the Reptile Chop in the swamp was a much bigger put down than calling Meyer classless because other coaches do the same thing.

Thanks Gen, UGA is improving, especially running game. Along with Stafford means they could get nasty. There problem is, as you know, drop balls. Tenn game will be an extreme test for dawgs, the game will be less mistakes WINS…close. Florida is 17-2 last 2 years and Auburn is the 2.Buck seems to be coming around, I have infuse 10 chemo`s and hope to remission soon. Please kick Bama A**!!!

Altamaha,

I believe that Coach Richt said that one of the big turning points was stopping them at the 1 or 2 yard line early in the game, because it allowed the big play where CJ Byrd recovered the fumble. He pointed out that if Ole Miss scores instead of being stopped at the 2, the Dawgs are down 14 points.

He also said that Brandon Miller had a heckuva game and is playing very well right now.

What’s the big deal with Meyer’s timeout call? I saw Mike Shanahan call a time seconds before Janakowski nailed a 52 yarder. The second kick doinked off the upright. Denver drove down and kicked the game winner. Meyer is just preparing for the NFL next year.

A-Ville:

That is a good point about Thomas committing after seeing another smaller back in Brown get so many carries and rush for 180 yards and 3 TD’s.

I’m sure he pictured himself doing that same thing and that might have pushed him over the edge to committing to UGA.

Tuberville said he’d have done the same thing as Cryer did on the field goal timeout. Don’t see the controversy.

Actually it was an obscure tackle for a loss, by Owens I beleive, dont quote me. Any way, it was 2nd and 2 and that made it 3 and 5 which they didn’t convert. Game was tied at that point and we went on to score a bunch after that. Not sure I’ve got all the stats right there but it was a stop on TFL and changed the mo’.

Meyers TO was fine. He is the one flirting with not getting it called in time. TT called at least one if not two TO at the last second against UGA in that 05’ brawl that changed the game. I think in his case he was just trying to stop a problem he saw, but it was a split second before the snap, but its not different rule wise. Its no different than a coach with a ref right there trying to run down the game clock. My problem is that the rule exist that allows coaches a way to “play” into the action. I’ve been surprised for a couple of year now that the rules committee doesnt put in a drop dead point at which only a player can call TO, on defense particularly. Maybe not after Oline gets set. I guess maybe that has some complexities.
