UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Richt rates the Dawgs

Georgia coach Mark Richt was the first speaker Friday morning on the final day of SEC media days outside of Birmingham.

Among his assessments of this year’s squad:

• “I can see why people aren’t picking us,” after the team’s 1-4 finish in the division last year.

• “I think we’ll be OK,” in the secondary despite the loss of Paul Oliver to academics.

• “We’re going to have to be careful with this bunch until they get their feet wet,” concerning the youthful offensive line.

Let us know what you think of Richt’s comments and also let us know what you think about the team’s chances this season.

(Editor’s note: Commenting is now closed on this blog. We invite you to join the discussion on Chip Tower’s UGA blog.)

I love that most people aren’t picking us to perform well in 2007. Anyone remember 2005?

Have lost count of the number of Georgia football squad members picked up for alcohol offenses and other misdemeanors. Until such time as Richt instills some discipline in those youngsters, they are not going to be picked for greatness ……. and they won’t be winning championships! Blew my mind when we saw photos of the QB hoisting a keg of beer — was he of legal age?? Candidly, not all that impressed with Richt. He is NO VINCE DOOLEY!!!!

Hey DumbDawgNation…you forgot about the butt-whooping you are going to get in Knoxville so you might want to change your idiot prediction. We will try not to lay another 51 points on the Dogs this year so we will play the 2nd and 3rd stringers most of the game…woof..woof…hahahahahaha!

Hey Phat Phil,

Your program is headed down the tubes. The serious noise starts this year when you begin the season 0 and 2. The ONLY reason UT won last year is UGA was uncertain at QB. No the case this year. Dogs make it 4 in a row in the dump by the river.

Jack,

These kids are in college! Underage men at every college, on every college sports team, drink beer and celebrate a right of passage. If you didn’t, then good for you, but keep the focus on the big picture and not your dislikes. Do your homework, far worse things than open container charges and driving mopeds on a suspended license are happening at other schools in the SEC. BTW, Richt has won 2 championships in the last 5 years, evidently he is doing something right.

No Vince Dooley? Thank God he’s no Vince Dooley. Dooley should have won the national championship every year he had Herschel, especially since the SEC East was mediocre then. Richt has taken us to three SEC championships in a very short time, his “down” year in a powerhouse conference was a 9-win season and a bowl victory, and you are not impressed? Dooley’s down years need no quotation marks.

And as for your keg observation, do you honestly not think Dooley’s players ever hoisted a keg? The only difference between player behavior then and now is that we have digital cameras and the internet.

Join reality. Richt is twice the coach Dooley ever was.

Our Defense actually has more play makers in the secondary then last year…although they are young they are very talented as last year Tra was the playmaker….i think this year our D will be faster and our Offense should bode well with so many talented running backs and Stafford should the line perform well should be a fine QB and hopefully Mass and Bailey and the rest of WR gang can make some plays…i look forward to a TOUGH season hope we win SEC though.
