UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Where is the love?

Wow, what a game between Kentucky and Mississippi State. If these conference tournaments across the country this week are any indication, we’re in for more madness than usual this March.

On that note, I have to admit that, as the guy that covers Georgia, I thought it probably had to be a little discouraging for the Bulldogs to look up into the stands at the Georgia Dome last night and see such a small gathering to support them. I mean, there were a lot of people at the game, 14,000 or so I think. But most of them were Florida and Kentucky and Tennessee fans. Georgia, which has more than 100,000 alumni living in the metro Atlanta area, had one of the smallest fan representations. Only Auburn, which has the second-most alumni in the area (I think), had fewer fans.

I know you can’t change the culture over night, but that’s still hard for me to fathom. I’ve talked to a few Georgia supporters lately, some who post on this board, and they say it’s merely a protective reaction. That is, they’ve been disappointed by the Bulldogs’ basketball team so many times over the years that they’re afraid to invest any energy or enthusiasm into them for fear of just having their heartbroken. Therefore, it’s easier to lay there on your couch and watch it on TV rather than getting all dressed up and lathered up only to see them go down and get taunted by a bunch of obnoxious Gator fans.

Is that the thinking?

Either way, Georgia could come out looking bad tonight because, I’m here to tell you, there are tons of Florida fans here at the Georgia Dome. How might it look if the Gators show up with three times as many fans as the Bulldogs in a building named after the state they play in?

Yes, Florida’s had considerable more success than the Dogs in basketball. But the Gators are also the perfect example that you can have success in both sports at a supposed football school.

By the way, in case you’re interested, tickets can be obtained fairly cheaply ($20-$50) outside the Georgia Dome.

I love the Women’s basketball team. Those girls are hot! I love to be trapped on an elevator with those girls.

All I need is a couple of bottles of Boonesfarm, some marlboro lights, and some fried-chicken and I will be In there!

I think Chip, that

1 it was on a Thursday, and while I know it was at night, Dawg fans are still not trained to be as loyal as - say, UK fans 2 Every time Georgia makes a big ripple in the water, they start to sink again. It IS a protective reaction. All the press basically said the UT loss ended our chances - thus ending the excitement. It’s like trying to get jacked about a dollar raise, when you just got passed up for the big promotion 3 The UGA basketball fans that packed the Steg this year were NOT Atlanta commuters for the most part. I went to 5 games, and travelled halfway across the state to get there, but its the UGA students and the Athens community who made the numbers rise at home this year 4 We ot put in the Florida bracket, and anyone who followed the dogs knows that we could beat ANY team in the conference on any given day… except for the Gators. I think most people are essentially saying “Good improvement, fun team - see ya next year”.

The UK/State game WAS amazing… now that the Cats are gone, don’t you think the UK fans that stay today will root against the Gators - helping us out in the process?

By the way, Kentucky’s loss — or more accurately, Mississippi State’s win — did Georgia no favors as far as it’s NCAA tournament aspirations. UGA needed those maroon doggies to go down and get out of the conversation.

Watch it on TV? The only way you could watch the SEC Tournament games yesterday was on pay per view. They’ve had every conference tournament on television except the SEC.

Uhhhh Mr. Towers - your point about the lack of interest in UGA basketball is noted and well documented. But the only school with a large number of fans at the night session was Kentucky. Same story, different year.

Maybe with Kentucky now out of the tournament and with the onset of the weekend, perhaps we’ll see more UGA and Florida fans there than on Thursday. But one thing is for sure. We won’t be seeing any more Tennessee fans. They’re out too.

Definitely protective reaction. Most fans I know feel that until the BB program at UGA is assured complete institutional support, there will be brief periods of success, but nothing sustained. And Chip, you KNOW institutional support has been sorely lacking in the past. Things appeared to be on the upswing in 2002 & 2003. Then comes the Harrick fiasco, and the team is not playing post-season before the full extent of the violations are known. That left a LOT fans cold. Generating a fan base is gonna take time. As a youngster growing up in Athens, I spent many nights going to see the BB ‘Dogs play. Generally, there’d be about 1,500 fans in attendance to see the ‘Dogs get beat by what was then pretty mediocre SEC teams. After moving back to Athens from Virginia, I feel that until I see a real institutional backing and long-term progress made, I will watch from afar, but not make the emotional investment. Trust me, most people I know feel pretty much the same way. It IS up to the Athletic Assoc. and university to show support, and continue the program in the positive way it appears to be going. But then, it has APPEARED to be going in the right direction many times. It’s time to stop “appearing” to be going in the right direction, and as the expression goes, “show me the money.”

Hey guys, it’s my stalker, the Single White Blogger. You know him, he’s the racist idiot redneck. Isn’t it cool? I have an online stalker because he doesn’t agree with my opinions. So the poor wittle baby has to throw a hissy fit and stalk me online. Wow. It’s nice that I can get under someone’s skin like that. I keep telling him that I’ve been here long enough that people know I’d never say racist things (or even think them), but bless him, he keeps on persisting. So what are you gonna do? He’s like the crazy idiot redneck neighbor in a sitcom.

And Chip, I know for a fact that that is exactly what alumni are feeling right now. Or at least the few I know. I don’t understand why the University, with a 26 MILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS, can’t rent like 10 buses and get 1000 students down to Atlanta tonight. Well, I already know the answer to that question, and the unfortunate answer works at the UGA president’s office. Here’s the thing I’ll never, ever understand. How is Chip, that Michael Adams was not raked over the coals by the Regents for going behind his AD’s back and hiring that slimy Jim Harrick? How is it, in all of this, Michael Adams lost nothing? University Presidents resign over less than what Michael Adams brought on our school. I remember the Auburn president and AD resigned for taking a plane ride to Louisville. How is it that those guys resigned (really, were fired) for that, yet Michael Adams, the snake, gets off scott free for the Harrick debacle.

I don’t get it.

Matthew: to which one of your mulitple personalitites answers…

Are you bitter because President Adams has turned UGA around academically with the new changes in academic rigor? It sounds to me as if you are one of the whinners who constantly complains about the state of affairs with the administration. And from your posts, you have issues, deep issues about lusting after the girls on the basketball team. You would think that you could do better than those hags. But it appears tht you are sitting in front of a computer while your peers are loading up to party for the week. You must be the loser that stay behind to catch up on your studying.

UGA4life

Are you my stalker, dude? Because he’s the one with the fetish issues. As for staying behind, I’m heading down to Florida after the weekend. But thank you very much for worrying about my ability to party. In my time, I’ve done my fair share. Too bad you sound as if your days of enjoyment are far gone. I’m sorry that you’re too far gone from UGA to be able to see what’s going on. Dude, if you don’t think Adams is a problem, you’re obviously one of the idiot Regents in his back pocket. The Faculty hate him. You talk about academics? We saw just how important academics were to him, and for just how little he’d be willing to sell out academics when he hired Harrick and refused to accept responsibility for doing so when the time came to accept responsibility. Also, he’s turned student grades into a laughingstock by instituting the plus / minus system. A system at use at only ONE other university in the country. One, out of literally hundreds. A system the faculty and the students oppose. He also hires faculty and administration positions without consulting his faculty. He’s a little dictator. He does what he wants, when he wants with no input from faculty or students, and the Regents let him get away with it. It’s pathetic, because these are the men and women who are supposed to stop Adams’ abuses of power. He’s as oily as Bill Clinton trying to define what “it” means. And UGA4life, if you don’t understand that, or see that… you’re deaf, blind, and stupid.

As it is, I think you’re just my idiot redneck stalker. So good on ya. Keep it up. One of these days you’ll be a real boy and have a life of your own.

Just hang in there everyone. They will come back. I predict the Bulldogs will unleash a firestorm from 3-point land and bury the Gators!

If not, they have played there hearts out and I am so proud of them. They are a special group of guys. I think this might be the best all around team Georgia has ever had. We were robbed of a few bad calls early in the season.

Next year will be better. I can’t wait to go to every game. I am a 6th year senior and I stay in school so I can my student tickets. I never want to leave.

Just to reiterate: we live and die by that 3. Takais played with absolutely no aggression that was really disappointing. Butler proved he deserved to be out on that court and was the only one carrying the intensity out on that court.

How big was that 17-0 run to start the game for UF as they go on to win by 17?! They got a head by a few more but UGA was pretty much able to stay with it after that. Here’s to a good run in the NIT!

As always, Once a Dawg, always a Dawg! How sweet it is! Its still great to be a Georgia Bulldog no matter what!

I have to agree with bigdawg about the 3s, if at 1st you don’t succeed: try, try again. But honestly, if at 21st you still don’t succeed: try, try to find something that works. And yes, it is great to be a diehard dawg!

I also agree with one of the Matthews about Adam$. He’s playing an instrumental role in holding down the athletic department, so much so he has his thumb on top of D. Evans’ head.

CMR has been trying to knock the proverbial lid off the program for years, but unfortunately the lid (Adam$) seems untouchable. Sad, it really is.

I would love to see someone knock the lid off, MAFIA style!

What’s amazing to me is that I don’t know many people who like Adams, so how does he keep his job?! By his “commitment to academics” which seems to satisfy the Board of Regents. But seriously, are there not enough UGA alumni out there with money to pay these guys to get that guy out of our school?! I’m a student and anytime anyone hears that name on campus we cringe. He gets Booed EVERY YEAR at football games. Any president can come in and do the exact same thing he is and probably get along with everyone a lot better.

By MadMerf

March 10, 2007 1:08 AM | Link to this

Most people in Dawg Nation put Adam$ in the same category as Spurrier when it comes to popularity on campus, and that is not a joke.

The one thing that makes me envious of Auburn is the fact that their administration actually did something about their “problem”, and look how quickly they recovered.

It boggles the mind to wonder how in the world the man can hold his job when the ‘nation is in a furor over his devilish blatancy.

TRUE STORY: My daughter roomed in a house next door to the President’s Mansion in ‘05 and ‘06. Before I helped her move in, I jokingly told her I was bringing a bazooka to give the neighbor a good ol’ fashioned housewarming. She then informed me that Adam$ did not stay there for obvious reasons, and I was disappointed.

Truth is, he probably has built a tunnel from wherever he lives to where he works. He kind of reminds me of a spineless terrorist. Maybe he stays at the “jungle paradise” he’s now famous for.

If the Board Of Regents can’t get rid of him, then maybe we should get rid of the BOR, because it’s painfully obvious he has them under his thumb as well!

Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Mike Bobo on what he wants quarterback Matthew Stafford to accomplish during the spring:

“The number one thing for Matthew Stafford is having better respect for the football. He has to learn to take care of the football. It is evident in programs across country that when you do not turn over the football, you win more games. So we have to respect the football and understand that sometimes you’ve got to punt it or throw it away.”

13 Interceptions 7 Touchdown Passes and 10 Fumbles 6 Lost to only 3 Touchdown Runs.

It was a horrid season for Matthew Stafford.

Sean Baily has caught a few deep balls and that’s nice to see. (Fernando) Velasco and (Chester Adams) Cheese are doing a pretty good job. Paul Oliver and (Jeff) Owens and (Kade) Weston are doing a nice job,” Richt said.

Richt also said redshirt freshman linebacker Darryl Gamble broke a bone in his foot and will miss the remainder of the spring. His timetable for recovery is six weeks.

The Bulldogs now break camp for one week as the University’s spring break begins Saturday. Practice resumes on Mon., March 19 and Georgia’s annual G-Day game is set for April 7 in Sanford Stadium.

For Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball, it was the two (2) HORRID LOSSES TO WEAK FOREST that in the end, did them in. I am not sure if Tech fans are hoping Duke, also with a LOSING CONFERENCE RECORD like Georgia Tech as well, gets in, or whether that makes it more unlikely the ACC would send more than the just five (5) teams who have a Winning Conference Record, specifically always a bellwether measure of whether a team does Dance, or does NOT.

Of course, Georgia Tech’s EASY STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, OFFICIALLY NUMBER 37 SOS TODAY puts Tech as the odd man out, looking in on this day for certain.

For example, not only the two losses to Weak Forest, but Losses such as to Miami of Florida, the Number 157 Team in NCAA Men’s Basketball RPI, are incredibly difficult to overcome when Tech played such a weak schedule strength.

Compared to the Number 37 SOS of Georgia Tech, Georgia for example ends the season at Number 15 NCAA Official strength of schedule for tomorrow’s seedings of NCAA and NIT teams.

Going 1-3 against the cupcakes of cupcake city Weak Forest RPI Number 123 and Miami of Florida RPI Number 157, is undeniably why Tech should play in the NIT.

In fact, Tech other than at home, never can win any men’s basketball game, ever.

Tech won one game all entire season long, in fact 1 in the last 3 years now, on the road and that was against a Losing Record Opponent who has zero hope of an NCAA bid : Florida State.

Georgia Tech’s Weak Number 37 Strength of Schedule this season :

.

Number 298 RPI Elon.

.

Number 179 RPI Jackson State.

.

Number 231 RPI Georgia State.

.

Number 198 RPI Pennsylvania State College.

.

Number 157 RPI Miami of Florida, who BEAT TECH.

.

Number 293 RPI Centenary, what ever that is.

.

Number 219 RPI Troy, Good Lord Above there is no end to cupcakes.

.

Number 322 RPI St. Francis of Pennsylvania again.

.

Number 305 RPI Winston Salem School of Girls. Winston Salem ?

.

Number 123 RPI Weak Forest, who BEAT TECH.

.

Number 100 RPI N.C. State.

.

Number 114 RPI Connecticut College.

.

Number 123 RPI Weak Forest again.

.

Number 123 RPI Weak Forest a third time, who BEAT TECH AGAIN.

http://realtimerpi.com/rpi125Men.html

14 GAMES of RPI 2,785 for an Average RPI of 14 Georgia Tech Opponents of Number 200.

For THAT Georgia Tech is in ?

What in the hell are you smoking ?

Something Reuben Houston sold you of his 192 lbs. of drugs on Georgia Tech’s campus just before The Georgia Institute of Technology was put on its Second (2nd) NCAA Major Infractions PROBATION ?

Tech remains on Probation, all this year too.

Not that we could expect the AJ-C to write that once this year, as they would have printed daily were it UGA instead on Probation March 10, 2007.

There will be MORE SEC NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAMS than ACC.

Felton’s best wins this year ?

Number 11 RPI Kentucky.

Number 62 RPI Mississippi State.

One would expect all six (6) of those teams to be in the NCAA Tournament.

.

.

.

.

Last season Felton beat Number 64 RPI South Carolina, who won the NIT Championship.

RPI Number 44 Kentucky, Felton beat and Kentucky played in the NCAA Tournament.

RPI Number 54 Alabama, Felton beat and Alabama too was in the NCAA Tournament.

3 years ago now, Felton BEAT Number 7 RPI Georgia Tech.

.

He beat Number 4 RPI Kentucky right after beating Tech.

.

In fact, he beat Number 4 RPI Kentucky twice that season, both home at Rupp Arena.

.

He beat that year also Number 19 RPI Florida Gators.

And, then followed that win with a win over Number 24 RPI Vandie.

And, all of those teams made the NCAA Tournament, but Georgia did not with a Losing Conference Record. But, then again, those were NOT FELTON’S RECRUITS that season.

http://realtimerpi.com/2003-2004/rpi356Men.html

Felton was 8-10 in the SEC that 1st year here as our coach.

Dennis Felton does NOT have a Losing Record to Georgia Tech.

Chip, if the product stinks no one will show up. Protective reaction? are we talking about UGA BB or about the Braves when they make the playoffs? Sadly, that mentality has found its way to Athens. Felton’s a good coach but he’s got a LONG way to go if the Dawgs want to compete in BB.

Corliss, UGA is competitive right now. Being on the NCAA bubble isn’t exactly being road kill. They just got beat by a team that just so happens to be better than the Hawks right now.

Besides either you are a fan or you are not. Good times, lean times, or times of building something. More UGA “fans” should have been there this week. The fact that they weren’t doesn’t say much for them.

It it hard for me to support the Dawgs because my patience is running out! This is Felton’s 4th year and we still havent made the tournament yet!! How long does it take Chip?? Are we on a 10 year rebuilding program or something!!! Huggins just recently took over the Kansas State program and it looks like they might make the tournament this year. It shouldnt take Felton more than 4 years to simply be one of the top 65 teams!! He needs to start producing!!

Greetings gentlemen and ladies,

I know it was difficult to watch that game last night, but don’t let your emotions get the best of you. That was probably the best team in the country and Georgia played the first 13 minutes as if concussed.

gdawgs77, not to seem an apologist for Felton, but considering from whence the program was to where it is now, making the NCAA tournament THIS year I don’t think was a do-or-die thing. That said, I think it’s clear that next year, in Year Five, there will be no more time for excuses. So be impatient next year.

NO QUESTION, Stafford took his hits and made his mistakes but in spite of people lioke you riding him harded than a West Tezas herd horse he still got it to gether and came through. Now if you want to start the ‘07 season dewlling on the negatives and not the positive way he finished the year be my guess but that’s a strange way to start a season when we have a tom of talent and will be in thr fight for the SEC title dpending on one man to lead the team, Matther Stafford.

i agree gdawgs77. for all this talk about how much discipline felton brings to the program, we sure as heck dont play like it. throwing up long range 3s, not even looking to drive to the basket, standing around on offense looking shellshocked…the list could go on and on. and no chip year five isnt not the year to be impatient. i think we have good reason to be impatient right now. there is no reason why we shouldnt be one of the best 65 teams in the country. whats the deal with felton not giving albert jackson any playing time? i mean c’mon it does not take a rocket science to see that rashad singleton just doesnt play with the strength and aggression that a 7 footer should play with.

Hey Chip thanks for the response back! Its just that basketball is much easier to rebuild than a football team so I could understand giving a football team 5 years or so but 3 or 4 is enough for basketball I believe. Kansas State is just one of several schools where I could give an example of a coach making an instant impact in basketball. So as you say there should be absolutely NO excuses for next year’s team! Hey Chip do you think T. Brown will be back next year. I know Felton held him out in October b/c he didnt have the proper focus on his schoolwork. So what do you do think about his chances for coming back? He will be the key to next year’s team.

I wonder if “gdawgs” bothered to show up for either of Georgia’s 2 SEC tourney games, or even any home games fo that matter. Seems like we have a lot of basketball “experts” that love to pass opinions but will not buy a ticket to save their life.

Yeah, it’s been 4 years and yes it is easier to rebuild in basketball than football. But programs like Kansas St. were not where Georgia was 4 years ago. Which was being left on the dung heap of college athletics. Remember SMU in football? Our image to high school coaches, players, the media, and anyone else paying attention was almost as bad. So if you really care about Georgia basketball, buy some tickets and shut up.

Hey BuLLdawg, You forgot to mention only UCLA and UNC beat more top 50 RPI teams than Tech. Why don’t you get the UGA bball team that lost without heart against UF to join you on the couch and watch Tech in the Big Dance. Maybe the mighty Kennesaw State team that gave UGA a run could also join you.

Plus he wasnt able to recruit but about 2 years now. I have a feeling the impatience of some folks in here isn’t limited to thier basketball teams. Going from hoping to just win a conference game to upper tier is pretty steady improvement I’d say. You know, even knowing they were sunk, I still watched, till the end. Just my love of the alma mater I suppose. Just love to watch any red and black team, even when the other team is better or even when they are beat out by a crime drama TV.

How is basketball easier to rebuild than football which recruits 20-25 new players per year?

And listen, don’t forget there are going to be quite a few teams in the NCAA this year that could not beat UGA. Felton is expected to do it in a conference in which most sport analyst were impressed with and consider a .500 record pretty difficult. He was what, 2 games short this year, prabably more like 4/5 baskets. (and only won 2 sec games how many years ago?)

If there is any consolation to all of this, it’s that BuLL was wrong on just about everything. By the way, another team really got jobbed tonight. The Akron Zips got beat by a miracle and bad clock officiating combo, and then they didn’t even make the NIT. I’m telling you, I’ve seen them play many times and they would beat UGA 7-8 times out of 10 post-Mercer injury and at least 5-6 with him in. I had to check the NIT bracket three times because I was checking to see where they were, not if they were in.

From where the basketball team has been the last few years, the NIT is definitely a step up and a step in the right direction. I like the nucleus of the team, however I would like to see more depth, more of an inside presence and an improved half court offense.

I understand it is the NIT and mid-week, so it will be hard for non-students outside of Athens (like myself) to make the game, but it would be great to watch a packed house support the Dawgs against Fresno on ESPN2 Wednesday.

It is another great opportunity for this young team to get some experience in a tournament atmosphere. Also, it is a great chance to show that UGA basketball is headed in the right direction both on the court and in the stands.

I am looking forward to it and I hope the place is rocking.

By the way, if you are already feeling the football itch check out youtube clips of some past highlights, most are fairly recent. Hopefully, people will continue posting…I saw a short clip in one of the Munson montages of T. Browning going 92 yards on a screen against LSU in ‘04. I had forgotten what a sweet play that was because I have tried to block that game from my memory, but it was a potential Lindsay Scott II if things would have turned out differently.

Go Dawgs!

Felton’s teams have made a steady improvement, considering the circumstances:

He inherited a couple of seniors in his first (‘03-‘04) season from Harrick’s squad, still stinging from UGA’s self-imposed tournament withdrawal, along with a handful of walk-ons. That team proceeded to win a respectable 12 games, considering the talent/lack of depth we had at the time.

The following year we completely started over, with Levi Stukes and the rest walk-ons. All of Harrick’s Hounds were gone, and Felton even “relieved” Harrick’s stellar recruiting class the year before, and they all left (except maybe one?). Now that’s adversity folks!

These are the records from the last 3 years:

2004-2005: 8 wins, 20 losses (2-15 conference)

2005-2006: 15 wins, 15 losses (5-12)

2006-2007: 18 wins, 13 losses (9-9) NIT bid

He’s not Tubby, but he’s not Jirsa either. Looks like improvement to me, and remember, the national media buried us not too long ago. Getting recruits to come to UGA is no small feat, given the rep Harrick/Adam$ left us.

The NIT ain’t so bad, things could be alot worse. At least we get to play another game at the Steg. Wednesday’s game gives us a chance to get the taste of the last game out, and also gives the fans a shot to redeem themselves. Pack the house and GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!

Altahama, eggshells? Oh well, I’ll be cheered up if the Dawgs can do some dammage in the NIT. Received 3 calls last night alone after Washington didn’t make the NIT( I think it’s great)asking me how did I think that Ga. deserved to be there and they didn’t. Talk about the arrogaunt falling down, the Huskies are the 3rd best team in the state now. Their school colors are purple and gold(Royalty) and the school fight song starts out with “Bow down to the Huskies.”( I need to check to make sure that it’s Huskies and not Bow down to Washington?). Anyway you get the point.Fresno St. shouldn’t be underestimated but it would be great if the Dawgs win Wed. night and some way Arkcansas could upset USC on Thur. I’ll be wearing my “Dawg Battle Cap” 24/7 for the next couple of weeks.

Mad Merf, you’re right but I also think it’s to early to say he’s not Tubby. May be better. Couple more years and we’ll know a lot more but he’s done good so far. You use facts but the best thing I’ve noticed is that when we post back and forth, you’re not just a blind homer and use objectivity. That’s good.

March 12, 2007 9:44 AM | Link to this

Fresno is absolutely not to be underestimated. But here’s to your good cheer after that game. Also good point about Tubby, not sure why everyone holds him out as such a standard. Not to take anything away fom him, but what he came into UGA with -vs- What Felton did, is not even in the same arena. I think when its all said and done, Felton building any kind of program from 6 feet under at UGA, will be a lot more impressive than simply continuing to oil that machine that is KY basketball.

BTW, I dont think I can recall a single person being blind or unrealistically optimistic about Felton in here.

Buck, hope you’re feeling well. Sounds like you’re going through some tough times. You are a warrior, and I admire your resiliency.

I’ve spoken with Dennis the past 3 years following the local Bulldog Club meetings, and he appears to be extremely optimistic while guarding himself from unrealistic sugarcoating. He has an agenda, and he’s on schedule. We may have even exceeded his expectations this season.

He, like CMR, is a man of God and represents an ideal role model for recruits and their parents. I’m not particularly crazy about his “fish out of the ocean” offense (which you refer to) they heavily rely on, but as I stated before, the cast he is assembling should take care of that in the future.

Thanks for the comments, Altamaha.

BuLLdawg - why don’t you do an “RPI” breakdown of the NIT!!!!! Its funny that BuLLdawg has UGAY as a team that should make the NCAA without a doubt, but no one on ESPN or CBS even listed UGAY as a bubble team. Don’t they know that BuLLdawg is always right???

That 17-0 run to start the game kind of reminded me of being in Jacksonville in late October!!!!

MadMerf, I believe that he runs the offence with what he has to work with. Not so sure that he isnt still “compensating” a little bit still. No disrespect to his players, (in fact a testimate to thier effort)but I’ve heard him say , he is just NOW starting to get bodies that look like SEC players. I assume the style will adjust when he can. Not exactly an inside powerhouse right now. Nor do I think he would ever say, he wouldn’t like to be more well rounded. As much complaining as folks did about that shooting this year, it looks to me that was the reason they won as many as they did. And at times was very effective. Was frustrating to watch at times too, (when it was off) but not sure I’d have felt better if they had averaged 40 points by stubornly forcing what they didn’t have.

gtdc,

Live it up while you can. This is your year and you deserve the right to talk smack. UF is the new media darling, a revelation that took place yesterday.

Early Sunday afternoon, the boys in the ESPN newsroom said that Florida didn’t deserve one of the four #1 seeds. Just 6 hours later, the gators are elevated to the tournament’s top overall seed, despite two of the previous #1 seeds (one of the Big10 schools had to lose) winning their respective conferences.

The committee even threw in Arkansas, a team you beat by 21 (and frankly, wasn’t supposed to be there) just to justify your huge jump.

And yes, it did remind me of football too. Kind of like when a 3-star recruit commits to UF, he immediately becomes a 4-star. And a 4-star becomes a 5-star, etc. Just like SOS said, “something happens to players” depending on where they go.

I will not talk trash, because I know how silly these Tech fans look sometimes, so I’ll wait ‘til the fall.

I’ve used the term “Ocean”, no need to rehash the defination but being agressive, crashing the area, trying more drives to the basket or anything to muddy the waters for the other team is something we could use. As Mad Merf said Felton’s recruting players to close the gap and I’m saying that anything we could do even if it just plain stubborn or not the norm wouldn’t hurt. In the games (only 3)I’ve been able to watch the other teams have played “D” knowing that we would do 1 of 2 thing and played their “D” accordingly(sp). If nothing else, once or twice during the game have Brown come out and shoot from 20 ‘with the rest crashing. Just try anything to break the mold and I’m not talking bout changing the whole “O” or anything likr that.

First of all I was ragging BuLLdawg for his over the top comments. But since you brought up Stafford, I take the oportunity to remind you that Al Bundy also had a great High School career,…… but not much happened after that.

Mad(as in bitter)Merf - so what you are saying is that Florida keeps beating UGAY while having less talent?? Besides the Pouncy twins, name someone else who was bumped up. Didn’t Vance Cuff get bumped up to a 4 star after commiting to UGAY?

On a side note, playing the UGAY- Florida game in Atlanta did not help eventhough its suppossed to be a huge advantage to play an hour away from home when your opponent has to travel from another state.

Lost their best player in early Feb., was kicked off the team for some reason, don’t know what. They upset Stanford 69-67. Beat Creighton 69-54 and also beat New Mexico St. 75-69. Couple of quality wins and played Neveda fairly close. I’m not sure about Creighton but I know that Stanford and New Mexico St. are in the “Dance”. The program was moving in the right direction with tremendous fan support until the Harrick debaucle. That’s when things took a turn for the worst. Season tickets sales went way down and trust in the program was lost. Recovering from that could take 10 years who knows. Also if Dennis Felton was a very successful he probably would jump ship just like Tubby did. I think that fans need to feel a sense of stability in the program before attendance becomes steady again. I also think a new facility to replace Stegman would be good. A more modern, spacious arena. Oh well so much for that since they are adding on to Stegman. I know the University has the money to build a new arena it’s just a matter of doing it. Basketball is a hard sell around here. That is reality. Results are what put people in the stands ultimately. That or tradition. GO DAWGS

Tubby didnt jump ship, he was offered one of the most prestigious jobs in his profession in the country, and had previous ties to KY. That has absolutely no bearing on what Dennis Felton would do WHEN he is successful at UGA.
