UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Remembering the class of ‘96
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
National signing day is right around the corner and I’m sure more than a few of you are looking forward to it with excitement. Or, to hear some of you lately, with dread.
In anticipation of the big event, I decided to go back 10 years and revisit Georgia’s class of 1996. Let’s review.
The big news that day was the last-days flip of Brooks County defensive lineman Marcus Stroud. He had been committed to Florida for weeks before deciding to sign with the Dogs in the 11th hour. So big was his change of heart it landed Stroud on the cover of SI ripping off a Florida T-shirt to reveal a Georgia shirt underneath. I’d say that turned out pretty good for the Bulldogs.
Georgia got another one away from Florida in Jim Donnan’s first class. Lineman Brad Register, whose father, mother and sister were Gators, decided late to sign with the Dogs. It seemed a big deal at the time but probably wasn’t in the end.
The other big “gets” in that class: Champ Bailey (All-American, NFL All-Pro), RB Patrick Pass (NFL), OL Jonas Jennings (NFL) and LB Orantes Grant (short NFL stint).
In all, Georgia signed 22 players that day. Four (18 percent) never made it to campus (WR Michael Bryson, WR Eric Hall, RB Ronnie Bradley, DL Cletidus Hunt) and two played a year or less (QB Mike Usry, LB Rich Robich). Fourteen players (63 percent) redshirted that first season. Eleven (50 percent) lettered for four years. One left early for the pros (Bailey).
Those numbers are fairly typical for most recruiting classes, so keep that in mind as you eye the Bulldogs’ latest list of recruits.
So what about this year’s class? Which commitments/signees are most likely to end up in the NFL? In your opinion, which, if any, are most likely not to ever make it to school? Do you see any potential busts in there? How about dark horses? How many will redshirt? How many do you think will be solid four-year players who contribute significantly and graduate?
Here’s the list to help you out:
JUCO SIGNEES

It looks to me that every single player in this class has the potential to contribute very early. We are the Number #1 class at the spot that we were lacking most. Why is everyone glossing over that?. How can you do any better than #1 at the biggest need? You cannot hope to be successful without filling in the holes, I dont care how many stars. Would you rather we had signed 3 more highly rated QB’s?

I agree Altamaha. It would be nice to have a couple 5 stars, but Quienten Moses was a 1 star DE when we drafted him, and he turned out ok. I am really looking forward to seeing what the JC players can contribute. Our OL will be strong in coming years, and with all the guys we redshirted last year the D will be improved this year. It’s great to be a DAWG!! I have a good friend who is a Gaytor, and he is pretty happy now too with all that is going on in Gaynsville, but at the end of the day, he is still a GAYtor. lol

We’ve been getting plenty of talent since Richt has been here. There’s nothing wrong with our class, it just isn’t loaded with “wow” players. As said above, we filled our need for OLs…that’s huge.
Hopefully we can get guys to play early and play well. Also, you just don’t know what kind of talent we redshirted last year. Those guys might make a big impact in 2007.

Most people right now think that this class will be remembered as the class that blocked for the Class of ‘08.
My gut says Troupe will seek baseball $$$ but he should be a good Dawg if he doesn’t. I bet Sturdivant ends up a long-term NFL lineman. Caleb should be extra-special if not hampered by injuries.
I think someone should work on nicknames for Gray and White (“Missouri Colors”?). They could turn out to be a big surprise.

At least the insects will still see Allen Bailey every year, although at Miami. And at least we won’t see him at all (unless in a bowl game).

Allen Bailey, does he really think he’s gonna play middle linebacker? I bet they sold him on the past middle linbackers (ray lewis, dan morgan, jon vilma) Too bad his slow a$$ will be playing DE. Have fun in the Boise Bowl every year Allen!

Does anyone know if Troupe is going to be given the opportunity to play baseball at UGA as well?
That would be a great get for the baseball team as well.
I haven’t seen the guy play in person, but from the pictures I’ve seen and the stories I’ve read, this guy could be a pro in either sport.
Given the trend of teams drafting more college players, I think it would be wise of him to give UGA a year or two (especially if they are letting him play baseball too).

I’m just glad Bailey didn’t end up Gainesville. That guy is scary. You really can’t blame him for going to the “U” because that guy will step in and play immediately. He probably won’t have to do much in the classroom either. DE all the way. No good in pass coverage. As far as the present class goes, what is the deal with Greenlee? Is he going to jump ship or what? Vince Vance is a monster. Good thing is we have him for 3 years. It would be hard to find a better lineman class than what the Dawgs have pulled together. Basically this class had a theme. O-lineman. We got the job done there. Throw in some other talented players and I think we are looking pretty solid. GO DAWGS

Great class but would like to see some more highly rated WR’s. That is one area we just dont seem to get the top guys. How many 6 foot 4inch 4.4 fourty guys do we sign. NONE. The other top schools seem to land at least one every year.

I think we’ve got a good class for the ‘07 recruting. The old adage about freah legs running the ball in the 4th qt. could just as well apply to the “OL” and “DL”. I think the JUCO players will be a real positive for the Dawgs because they’ll have less time to try and impress pro scouts so they’ll be focused. Because we need the linemen so much, I don’t think we’ll “RS” the same high % of new guys as we did last year. If King can make his grades and Troupe comes to Athens, I think they’ll both be on the field as true freshman. One thing I really don’t understand. Why is there hate on for Bailey? He never mislead anyone to the best of my knowledge and cancelled his visit because he made a firm decision that he wasn’t coming to Ga. I really don’t know if Greenlee will come or not but lets remember he commited to FSU in the beginning because he had been a Nole fan all of his life and he’s said repeatedly that even though he’s commited to the Dawgs, he still has a soft spot for Fla. St. According to Rivals, I think, he’s been talking to Chris Little who may not be as firm for ND as the Irish and everybody thought. Little has been all over the board but he could end up at Ga. with Greenlee. Good class, coach’um up because from the opening K.O. we’re playing in the big leagues. Okla. St. is going to have a very good team in’07 so we must be ready.

correct me if I’m wrong but how many WR’s have we sent to the NFL since MR has been in Athens? Reggie Brown turned into a top notch WR with the Eagles and just signed a new contract worth millions but when he played for the Dawgs he was good but that’s all and he dropped passes that he appears to catch now. and yes I seen him drop a couple in the Pro’s but not many. They don’t give out those big contracts to WR’s that drop balls all of the time. I’ve forgotten so please feel free to name some more names.

If I have one pick to make the NFL I’ll go with Sturdivant,King is the best talent but backs are always dicey and we don’t even know if he can make grades. My case for Sturdivant? he has all the tools, the frame,he’s smart, dedicated,he’s a good kid and level headed. When Sturdivant run blocks he stays on it till he’s pulled off and already has good technique.

A few things:
don’t count on vince vance to contribute too much next season. he’s played two years of offensive line in his entire life. he still raw. there’s too much pressure being put on the kid. he won’t be an instant savior like everybody wants him to be.
i’m tired of seeing us being too cute with our receiver commits. georgia has only signed one high-profile receiver (Massaquioia) since richt has been at georgia. it seems like we’re always trying to find a diamond in the rough or someone who will need time to develop. it seems like the receivers coach is sort of arrogant and that he wants to show people that he can evaluate hidden talent. why not just go after all of the five star guys really hard and hope that one of them likes you.

Unless there were two running backs named Ronnie Bradley to sign with Georgia in a short time frame, you are incorrect that he never made it to campus. I recall a Ronnie Bradley getting significant playing time in 1998 at running back.

CORRECTION
As alertly pointed out by “UGA Mumm-Ra” (what kind of handle is that?), I was wrong about one Georgia’s 1996 signees. Ronnie Bradley did indeed make it to Georgia (my sincere apologies to Mr. Bradley). He was listed under the Bulldogs’ list of lettermen as “Rolando Bradley” and I overlooked it. I actually remember him now that I think about it. Again, many apologies for the mistake.

One player you guys are sleeping on is LB RENNIE CURRAN he has been working out real hard and focusing on getting better. Rennie is now bench pressing 400lbs and sqaut 470lbs and he runs a 4-5 forty he’s always around the ball ; the guy is a beast.

Buck, Reggie is from my hometown and high school. he is a great athlete, but you are correct about UGA status as WR. for some reason SEC does not produce WR in abundance to the NFL as DE, Ol and RB`s. Reggie was not given the opportunity to get the ball with CMR offense with Shockley and Greene. The deep routes were not thrown as in the NFL especially across the free safety.LSU, Florida and Tenn. have sent several WR to NFL, but other teams limited number.

War Eagle one thing our game with you proved last year is that we have the gun need to complete the deep throw. I have a feeling after listening to Bobo, CMR and Stafford we’re going deep no just as a decoy but with the goal of making the play. It’s just so hard for me to think that coaching’s not involved. Our WR’s all came out of HS. with good to great expectations based on their prior performance yet they get to Athens and don’t live up to anything I’m really hoping that things will be different in ‘07 but in the CFB, we still dropped 7 passes so I can’t help but wonder what’s going to change. One note. MR made an off the cuff comment that maybe we’re working on their blocking to much and not on their catching the ball. Haven’t forgotten that statement and wonder if that indeed may be a change for ‘07. Beat’s me.

Not that I think he will be an nfl guy but Charles White just looking at videos plays like Tony Taylor. If he can put on 20lbs and keep his quickness in a couple of years he may be the mike UGA always needs.Vance Cuff will be the quickest and maybe fastest player on the team,he could be a bigger Mikey Henderson with cover skills to go with deference making explosiveness on special teams.Next year could be a great one for dlinemen, start with Cornelius Washington who has committed. In state Deangelo Tyson has everything you look for at dt and could be the top one in the south,he goes to high school with Knox and Houston in Statesboro and looks to favor UGA. Add Toby Jackson in state and thats three five stars with two or three out of state five stars also looking at UGA.

Buck,Most great WR don`t need coaching , just guidance. Auburn has less WR in NFL than most SEC teams because except for Jason Campbell(2004), we did not have the deep threat. Having the thrower does not mean you will be successful unless you got the HANDS.What happen to all those WR dawgs signed last 3 years?

I think our receivers are fine. If you look at the 2nd half of the year after Stafford became the full time starter, they played MUCH better. Especially against Auburn and Tech.
I think Chip or Carter recently wrote a blog about how we should be okay at WR in 2007 and I tend to agree.

MilledgevilleDawg Iagree if you can sign a five star receiver that fits with UGA culture, sign him!!But Walter Hill who is set to sign wednesday( three star rated by scout) is deferent from other receievers signed in recent years,he was as good as anybody his junior season then played qb his senior year.He has an nfl body, gets good separation, and has huge soft hands. His junior stats 13 tds - 27 yds per catch.

I dont want the five star, are the press bowing down yet, player. I want the three star with an attitude. Matthew Stafford is the aberation not the norm in five star high schoolers. We have NCAA class recievers that do not seem to play up to their potential. Why? I am not capable of answering that question.
Who will make the NFL, heck let them contribute to the Dawgs first, then we can argue if they should leave early. Recruiting is fun, but it is a crapp shoot. You can never really tell until they strap on the helments and line up in a stadium that seats more than the town and county where they were born. I really think this is where the Rodney Garners are so impressive. How much heart does the kid have. How bad does he want to be a Dawg, or insert your favorite team War and General.
The fabulous Bailey Boys had all the talent in the world. Richard Tarditz, no star walk-on had heart. Not to diss the Baileys, but give me heart.

Yep ….. the OL’s will make Stafford & all RB’s look better. Just wish we could get more than 1 - 2 WR’s or at least some surprises from the red-shirted guys from the last class. Still way too many drops every year in my opinion …..top WR’s still going to FLA & FSU year in & year out. WHY ??

War Eagle, I’m in complete agreement. That’s the question I’m asking. I hear whay Bryan G. is saying but the fact is that after the game with you we dropped 7 passes in the CFB. I don’t know what’s happened to them I’m only hoping they’ll arrive in ‘07.

WR’s are the wildcard of an offense. Some days they’re hitting on all cylinders. Other days, nada. The regimen the Tennessee WR’s were put through in the summer of ‘06 will hopefully be repeated in ‘07. Speed and strength, speed and strength, but first, catch the ball. We’re replacing three starters…In Munsonspeak, woe and alas you guys…

Georgia’s got a nice little class this year, but, let’s be realistic. They never have and never do recruit the kind of athletes that Florida does year in and year out. Wake up doggies, there’s a reason you can’t beat the Gators, it’s called talent. Talent is a tangible thing and it is the same story every year. Georgias a good little squad til they get to Jacksonville. Then poof there goes another season, because admit it, it bothers you. Go Gators, Go Cocks, Go Tigers, Go Vols.

The Dawgs will rule in 2007. They believe again now. UF just does not realize how much they are going to miss Leak. Between the tackles Tebow will have a hard time winning the confidence in his teammates because of his lack of arm, plain and simple. Now UF has top notch talent coming at QB, but as we know riding a freshman QB to a title just ain’t gonna happen. Our receivers will come around this spring after having matured in 2006. Sean Bailey finally learned how to catch against LSU in the SEC game. I hope he remembers how! DAWGS WILL BE TOUGH IN 2007!!!

One small correction, Mr. Towers. Ronnie Bradley DID play for UGA, after junior college. I vividly remember him fumbling as we were trying to run out at the clock at Kentucky in 1998. That was the game that ended with UK botching a long FG try that would’ve won the game for them. He wore #25.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, Tebow won’t just run between the tackles. He and Stafford are about the same size but Tebow is faster. He’ll be running or throwing on the outside. Out here I got the chance to watch how Smith was used by Urban. Tebow fits the bill because he’s just like Smith. Check out Tebows H.S. records and you’ll see what he is. A running back that can really throw. I believe we will beat the Reptiles at the “Party” but we need to know just what we’ll be facing. Oh yea, won’t to see a true freshman that plays QB the Tebow does? Look no farther than our recruting list. Logan Gray is a very good replica of Tebow only about 40 lbs. lighter.

Cuz, If you want a team full of Rudy’s, then you can have them. Me, I want the blue chip stud recruits. Ohio State, Florida, Texas and Southern Cal aren’t on top of the Football world every year because they sign a bevy of three star recruits.
The bottom line is that unless you sign the top talent, you can’t play with the big boys on a yearly basis. To say any different is ludicrously naive and stupid. Do all four and five star guys become stars - No. Are all two and three star guys destined for mediocrity - No, again. There will always be the Jasper Sanks, Jaime Harris, Marquis Elmore disappointments and the Tim Jennings, David Pollock and Richard Tarditz surprises. However, the percentage of four and five star recruits that excel far exceeds the percentage of two and three star guys that excel. It is simple mathematics, the more blue chip recruits you sign, the better your odds are of consistent success at the national level.
When we say that we “Filled needs” or that we just have to “coach them up” then that is an admission that the class is down. We have committed a ton of linemen this year, some undersized linebackers a running back that won’t qualify, a receiver that is going to play pro baseball. That means we have some serious holes to fill in the next two years classes. Remember also, our class from two years had only 13 players that made it in that year. Granted some came in last year after Hargraves, but still only 13 players in 2005 made it in. We needed a stronger class this year, and we didn’t get it.

Patrick Pass!!!!!!!!!!! I loathe you! Brad Register’s Dad tried to fight me in the parking lot of McWhorter Hall before a football game in ‘96. He was trying to stand in a parking space. I asked him to move, and he replied “My son is Brad Register!” What a tool. One question. Why does everyone on this blog think that Sean Bailey is suddenly the next Calvin Johnson? I’ll say it again. He has had two(2) good games in his entire career at Georgia. I hope he plays well, but let’s be realistic.

82Dawg- I couldn’t agree more! Yes we addressed our needs on the lines but outside of that we didn’t do a whole lot. A lot of people on here like to use the argument “we don’t so and so..” When do you ever not need top notch talent? We missed on quite a few big name guys from this state! Like you said, programs like USC don’t dominate and spit out NC and Heisman Trophy winners by recruiting a bunch of 3 star guys with heart. Sure I bet there are a few scattered in there somewhere but they bring in 5 star blue chips like crazy!! We addressed our needs and that is good but all in all I’d call this class a dissapointment. We missed on several top tier guys from this state. IMO you can never have too much talent!!

Hey fellow Georgia fans I just wish you could look at things unbiasly! I am a huge Georgia fan and I can. Yeah we did need some offensive lineman and got them but overall I don’t think we have a stunning class. Here is how I think you can determine if we are successful or not. Did we out recruit Florida or Tennessee or even South Carolina for that matter! We do have to PLAY them every year and it will much harder to beat them if we arent as talented as them!! Just an honest opinion from an avid UGA fan. Please dont say anymore that we met our needs b/c it isnt about that it is instead about being the BEST!!

Renegade-I agree dude! I don’t dislike Sean Bailey but the guy hasn’t shown me anything special. He had a couple of good games but let’s not get ahead of ourselves by thinking this kid is some CJ or Dwayne Jarret or Ted Ginn Jr. Our OL looks much improved and good be one of the nations best. Between Lumpkin and Moreno I like our chances there too! Our defense should be pretty solid. We got a few guys coming back and we supposedly redshirted some studs who should be stepping in. We all expect MS to do his part in creating highlights. So ask all of you..WHERE IS OUR BIGGEST AREA OF CONCERN? WR? To say those boys improved by the end of last season IMO isn’t accurate. They improved for the Auburn game and that’s about it. Defense won the Tech game for us. They played alright but not like in the Auburn game. They regressed for the bowl game and dropped 7 passes again!! DID WE SIGN ANY QUALITY WRs? ONE, AND HE MIGHT GET DRAFTED BY MLB AND NOT EVEN SHOW UP! I’ll say it again, our improved line won’t matter if we are a one-dimensional offense because our WR can’t catch!! The RBs won’t produce because there is no threat of a pass being completed. Our defense will be so tired they won’t be able to hold there heads upright. If the WR come to play, then watch out for the dawgs!!

Dawgstyle- I think the point that is trying to be made is this. Yes we addressed our needs and that is good. However, we could’ve pulled in another top 5 class or possibly better if we had landed the top in state recruits we were after! To me, saying that we don’t need them is ignorant! How do you not need top notch talent? The point of recruiting is to yes fill your needs but it’s also to stach your talent with as much top quality talent as possible. I don’t feel we’ve done that with this class. Gators and Vols are getting our recruits. Cocks are coming on strong. Addressing needs is great but losing top in state recruits to our rivals is never good!

I posted earlier that very thing about Sean Bailey, in that he really has not had that many great games, but that he really did start to show promise before he was injured. He has great speed and it did look as if “the light came on” for him as it did for MS this year after not having the greatest of games. My point is it can’t hurt to have him back, adding to what we ended up with at the WR position. As for UF, I’m not blind enough not to know the talent level they have, but I believe we will see what kind of character they display when making their transition to a new QB. Our team showed mounds and mounds of character in 2006. When things looked as impossible as they could they searched their souls and decided that they would do whatever they had to do to turn this thing around. I remember after Ray Goff’s best year in 1992 when things started going downhill, the team did not have the unified foundation that CMR has brought to Athens. I truly believe that our guys now have a whole lot more heart and integrity than alot of programs and I think that counts for a lot. Just like Andy Griffith said, “Winning ain’t no problem.” Sometimes it’s more about how you respond to adversity that counts. Momass will be out of that sophomore slump, and A.J. Bryant will not be a slouch either. Believe and support Dawg fans, believe and support.

I agree 100% with the post that stated this class will block for the 08 class. Greenlee is talking FSU but I think in the morning he signs with the DAWGS. Also don’t be to suprised if Chris Little signs with UGA. Family wants him to be close to home. As far as the WR’s go I think one of the problems was with Stafford last year. I think he was not confident and towards the end of the season you could see him getting that confidence he needed. Walter Hill is going to be the Reggie Brown of this class. Troupe will probably bolt for MLB but a lot of people feel that AJC was spinning that more then what it was. His family supports him and he has a stable home. A lot of people are not talking about three guys. They are flying below the radar. The kids from Missouri. Aron White and Logan Gray. White will be a force at TE. He is ranked #1 currently by rivals right now. Logan Gray will be big in the future. He could possibly be what makes Joe Cox 3rd string and Blake Barnes wish he had transferred. Neland Ball is a name that UGA fans should get to know. He will be big for us. He will be playing on Sundays. Throw in the Juco players and Caleb King and IF he stays healthy and his grades are good you will see why every big school in the nation looked at this kid. But if not look out for Knowshon. That kid is going to be a first round pick. Then 08 class will have the WR’s everyone is asking about. Not worried about this class we got the positions we needed. I mean Florida got its share of talent. The team we need to watch out for is South Carolina. The ole ball coach is building a force over in Columbia. This hurts UGA because we have a history of going into the Twilight Zone that is the state of SC and pulling there best players. I mean I am going to start a collection to get the AJ Green away from South Carolina.

The question I am starting to ask is have we fully capitalized on the success and the sec championships over the last five years. I wonder if a little complacency has set in with both players and coaches. You look at the depth, talent and competition at FL and LSU and I am starting to feel like we have fallen a step behind. Anyone else feel this way?

Hey you guys I wouldn’t get to upset if Greenlee does not sign with UGA. The talent level citywide here in Columbus Ga is spread so thin in the area because there are so many schools here. You can bet Greenlee has not spent his time at Hardaway High School blocking against major college D-line prospects. I saw Jasper Sanks play ball against several schools in this area, and yes he looked like a man against boys most of the time. Needless to say when it came to playing with the big boys in the SEC that this was an illusion. We all need to hope that the other OL recruits are the real deal.

crs We have definitely fallen behind LSU and Florida. This makes two down recruiting classes in the past 4 years. LSU and Florida just keep stocking up on the best they can offer. The program just does not seem to be at the level we wish it was. We wish we were in a position where kids come whether there are spots on the depth chart or not (like Fla, OSU, Texas, LSU, USC, etc), but sadly we are not. Still we are a regional power, and that is better than the third tier SEC team we had in the 90’s. Its all relative. We at least compete three out of five years. that’s better than before.

Red and Black, I posted on a blog the day SC said SOS was going to be their coach.Ooooooh, you shopuld have heard the howls. He couldn’t do this or that, he didn’t have any talent to choose from I mean I heard it all. Now, he’s comming right up on the heels of everyone in the SEC East. He is a coaches coach. We have a big advatange over him this season. Our QB. IMO, when he led the team to that win last season, throwing the 3 int’s, which 2 weren’this fault then the courage to audible to the QB draw on their 5 yd.line, break two tackles and score, he proved that SOS doesn’t bother him at all. Now with the coaching changes we have what’s needed to make it 3 in a row. Our recruiting stopped dead in the water about the time that Eric Berry went to Tenn. We haven’t had a new commit since the 2nd week of Dec. If I’ve missed someone speak up. What caused this to happen is a question that may be asked after tomorrow. We did fill PART OF OUR NEEDS, BIG TIME; HOWEVER, I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WE DON’T NEED SOME MORE SKILLED PLAYERS. tHE rEPTILES DIDN’T GET THEIR SHARE, THEY WIPED OUT TALENT FROM A LOT OF OTHER TEAMS. THE dAWGS? WE ONLY PICKED UP 3 OF THE TOP 10 IN STATE. I’M SURE REASONS EXSIST FOR THAT AND I’D LIKE TO HEAR THEM.

My source tells me that AJ Green is about to decommit, saying that we don’t have a good history with putting WR into the NFL. I’m told that he will probably sign with South Carolina when its all said and done. He will also look at Clemson and a few other schools that are on the national scene.

We have a long, long way to go before we start talking about Signing Day 2008 people. Besides, if AJ Green is concerned about Georgia putting receivers in the NFL, other than Sidney Rice, who from USC has gone to the league at the position? Stafford will open eyes and blow minds next year and every receiver in America will be drooling at the oppurtunity to come to Georgia.

Buck- I agree. I’ve been trying to make that argument for a little while now. While I agree that we filled some of our needs we let an awful lot of top notch athletes from this state get away! We got 3 out of 10? THAT’S TERRIBLE!! Considering our top recruit might not even be eligible I wouldn’t necessarily call this year a success!

Folks you don’t even won’t to go their talking about SOS putting WR’s in the NFL. You don’t stand a snowballs chance. He building the same situation at SC. and he’ll get the WR’s he needs because he has a proven record in that dept. Having coached on Sunday’s, even though he loet, he learned even more about how to turn a Wr into an NFL guy. It doen’t matter how you cut the cake, during the time that MR has been in Athens, we have not developed a rep for that. We’ve got the QB but he’ll be helpless if his recrivers can’t catch the ball. I have no idea what thw WR’s were fed prior to the AU game in ‘06 but whatever it was they need more of it in ‘07. If you think we can drop passes like we did in the CFB and win the SEC East then mail me some,I need a fresh smoke.

Buck You are asking the same questions I have been screaming for a month. I have NEVER seen a recruiting class at Georgia smack into a brick wall like this one did so early. I wish I could ask the coaches, someone - WTF HAPPENED??? And, What are you going to do to make sure it doesn’t happen again???

Buck, you must have a QB in order to get the ball to any receiver. Take a look at GT this year. They had the best receiver in America, but couldn’t get him the ball. Who would you rather have throwing the ball? Blake Mitchell or Matt Stafford? Georgia’s offense calls the plays to get the WRs involved, but they just can’t deliver. Where did Green get the idea that he would be a decoy at Georgia? He could start for Georgia right now!!

Spurrier’s history with qbs and wr says it all. It will be tough to pull top qb and wrs out of South Carolina if he really gets going.

The guys at rivals.com saw the same article out of South Carolina saying that Green was wavering. They asked him about that yesterday, and he said that he is 100% committed to UGA. He said he has followed and been a fan of UGA since he was 10.

Perspective: Who has won the most games in the SEC over the last 5 years?
The sky is not falling. The cupboard is stocked. UGA is as solid as ever.
There’s only one team that gives the Dawgs fits and it’s not a talent gap that is causing it. If so then why hasn’t UF beaten the common opponents more often over the last 6 to 8 years?
Maybe it’s partially luck (DJ in 2005 or the phantom facemask this year), but mostly it’s a mental block against the Gators in the last several seasons. Dawgs won’t win til they believe and see it happening. Maybe Stafford is the cure.

Renegade is right, South Carolina is a long way from having won against UGA, and yes I think MS will have a big day against the cocks this year.MS does not let certain teams, such as UF, or a coach such as SOS get in his head. He knows more about these rivals now, but it’s like he also just knows that it’s his job to take care of it. MS has shown a fighting spirit like no other seen at UGA in some time.Yes I know Greene & Pollack & co. showed a lot of fight, but Greene just did not have the tools that MS has. The Dawgs will have their way with the skill recruits in 2008 after MS wows’em all in 2007.

recruiting is very much he said she said but if we lose green that would be huge. not many players are 1st team all american as a junior, and i truly believe once stafford gets a better grip on the system our offense will look alot like fsu offense when they had chris weinke and peter warrick. if we lose green that would effect the way other recruits looked at us.

I’m excited about our class this year. I think that florida getting all the hype is fine. Now those 18 19 year old kids already have unfair expectations to live up to. Our new dawgs will be more than solid. I really think at least one will be an all american down the road and several will gain all sec status. Lets think long term. I think everyone will be surprised in 4 years when our class ends up with a better record and bigger trophy case than the “outstanding” florida class.

crs it is happening, UGA should be in position for NC this year, what has gone wrong I have no idea.Glorida and LSU are eating evertybody lunch in recruiting last 2 years. I know Buck will jump my case, but Stafford will need some more maturity and HANDS(receivers) to advance.I really believe Auburn will be prime to advance in 2008-09.

If I was an awburn fan I don’t think I would be analyzing the maturity of MS. The proverbial light came on for him against AU. He played against tougher defenses than awburn’s since then. Just like some of my AU co-workers it looks like the green eyed monster has bitten them because deep down they wish they had a real QB. Cox is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact is that we missed on 7 of the top 10 football players from this state! That is pathetic!!! Can anybody honestly say that it doesn’t bother them that we only landed 3 of the top 10 players from this state?!? If we addressed our needs early why didn’t we have the time to get some of those top guys? If we had landed 7 and missed on 3 we probably would have the #1 recruiting class in the country and would’ve still addressed our needs! I’m not trying to be negative, i’m really not. I just want someone besides the same 3 people on this blog to aknowledge that losing top instate talent is not a good thing and should not be acceptable!
