UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Dogs get their line coach

It was an interesting weekend around Athens. I’m sure everybody saw where Georgia coach Mark Richt hired a new line coach in Stacey Searels of LSU. That was a pretty good get for Richt and the Bulldogs. Obviously, the Tigers have had very good offensive lines the last several years and Searels also has a strong reputation as a recruiter.

It’s not common to get a position coach to make a lateral move in the SEC. I haven’t been able to interview Searels yet myself, but a fellow scribe in Louisiana tells me the Trion, Ga., native recently lost his father and wanted to move his family back to Georgia to be closer to his mother. We’ll get you more details on him soon.

I’ve said here before that I thought the O-line coach may be even more important for Georgia at this juncture than who would be offensive coordinator. Offensive line play will be the most important ingredient to the Bulldogs’ success or failure next season. Searels, in my opinion, fills the bill well.

Meanwhile, there’s always a domino effect where coaching changes are concerned and LSU could be having to make more adjustments besides just for Searels. Early word is LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will be a candidate for head coach at Louisville, which just lost Bobby Petrino to the Atlanta Falcons.

That would be another tough lick for Les Miles to absorb, in addition to losing Searels and having Nick Saban come back into the league in his own division.

So, do you like the hire of Searels? You think he’s going to help with the Dogs’ O-line? Is there a chance he could actually boost recruiting?

Following is the entire press release on Searels if you care to read more about him:

Stacy Searels, offensive line coach at LSU the past four years, has been named to the same position at the University of Georgia according to an announcement Saturday by Bulldog head coach Mark Richt.

Searels replaces Neil Callaway who was recently named head coach at UAB.

A native of Trion, Ga., and 1990 graduate of Auburn, Searels was an All-America lineman for the Tigers in 1987 when he was a teammate of current Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner. Prior to joining the LSU staff, he coached the offensive line at Cincinnati (2000-02), Appalachian State (1994-2000), and served as a graduate assistant at Auburn (1992-93).

“We’ve played LSU a few times since Stacy’s been there and weve also had a chance to see his offensive lines while studying tape on other opponents as well,” said Richt. “Their line has been impressive. They’re well coached, they play hard, and theyve been as good as any line weve played against in recent years. Certainly the success theyve had speaks for itself.”

LSU’s offensive unit in 2006 finished first in the SEC in total offense and scoring offense and was third in rushing offense and passing offense.

“I’m tremendously excited about coming to Georgia and working for Coach Richt and the rest of the staff,” said Searels. “I’m looking forward to being part of the Georgia football program that has such great tradition and one that I know has a great future.”

Searels made a habit of producing All-America linemen for LSU. In four years as LSU*s offensive line coach, Searels coached two First-Team All-Americans in Stephen Peterman and Ben Wilkerson and a Second-Team All-America in Andrew Whitworth.

In addition, during that four-year stretch, LSU*s offensive line produced a pair of First-Team Academic All-Americas in Rodney Reed and Rudy Niswanger. LSU had an offensive lineman named First-Team Academic All-America four straight years.

Niswanger became the most decorated student-athlete in school history in 2005, winning the Draddy Award as college football*s top scholar-athlete as well as being the inaugural recipient of the Wuerffel Trophy. Niswanger also claimed the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for football following the 2005 season and was named the recipient of the McWhorter Award, which goes to the overall top scholar-athlete in the SEC.

Searels coached five former Tigers to roster spots in the NFL with Whitworth being a second round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006; Peterman a fourth round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2004; and Wilkerson, Niswanger and Nate Livings signing free agent contracts.

Searels’ 2004 offensive line consisted of Rimington Award winner (Ben Wilkerson) along with First Team All-SEC offensive tackle Whitworth. LSU led the SEC in rushing that year with over 193 yards per contest.

Searels joined the staff at LSU after a two-year stint as offensive line coach at Cincinnati. During his two-year stay with the Bearcats, Cincinnati played in two bowl games as well as winning the school*s first conference title since 1964 by capturing the 2002 Conference USA crown. In 2002, Searels coached an offensive line that helped Cincinnati lead Conference USA in total offense (397.5 yards per game), while averaging 29.2 points a contest.

Prior to joining Cincinnati, Searels served as an assistant coach at Appalachian State from 1994-2000, helping the I-AA squad to five playoff appearances and to a pair of Southern Conference titles. He also coached players to five All-America and 15 all-conference honors in seven years as an offensive line and tight ends coach at Appalachian State.

While at Appalachian State, Searels was presented with the NCAA Award of Valor, which has been given only eight times since its inception in 1974, for his for act of courage following a head-on collision involving a van carrying members of the Mountaineer football team and support staff on Sept. 30, 2000.

With the Appalachian State van burning, Searels pulled out two staff members, who were trapped in the vehicle (11 other passengers in the van were able to escape on their own). Moments after Searels got the two staff members to safety, the van was engulfed in flames. Searels, who had been traveling on the team bus behind the van, had saved the life of his student assistant coach (Jonathan Taylor) and assistant athletic trainer (Tony Barnett). Taylor, who was airlifted to a hospital, spent three weeks in intensive care before making a complete recovery.

The NCAA Award of Valor honors those who, ”when confronted with a situation involving personal danger, averted or minimized potential disaster by courageous action or noteworthy bravery.”

Searels got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Auburn in 1992, working with the Tiger squad that posted a perfect 11-0 mark in 1993.

As a player, Searels earned First Team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Football News as a senior at Auburn in 1987. Searels was a three-year starter for Auburn, blocking for Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson in 1985 and All-America Brent Fullwood in 1986. He participated in four bowl games as a member of the Auburn football team.

A First-Team All-Southeastern Conference selection as both a junior and senior, he was honored with the teams Ken Rice Award as the schools best blocking lineman in 1987. He played in both the Japan Bowl and the Senior Bowl following the 1987 season.

In 1990, the Birmingham Post-Herald named Searels to the Auburn team of the 1980s.

Searels was a fourth round draft pick by the San Diego Chargers in 1988, playing two seasons there before moving to the Miami Dolphins for the 1990 season. He ended his professional career in 1991 with the New York/New Jersey Knights of the World League of American Football.

Searels graduated from Auburn in with a degree in marketing and transportation in 1990. He followed that with a Master*s degree in higher education administration from Auburn in 1995.

Searels is married to the former Patricia Hale and the couple has two daughters, Taylor (8) and Savannah (5).

Good to have you back Chip. Tough loss in Florida, hopefully we can heal at home. Thanks for the info on Coach Searels, well researched (better than if BuLLdawg did it himself and no links).

Is it Les Miles or is it the assistants? If picking the staff was Miles’ doing then he picked a good staff. LSU’s starting QB has gone pro and the staff may get cherry-picked. LSU is loaded with talent, however. No Katrina excuses from here on out.

Awesome hire. The best coaches have the best teams of coaches - have great Assistants. The best leaders put great people around them and realize the importance of that. Witness Van Gorder.

So this may well be one of the best “recruits” of the whole Richt era.

GO DAWGS!!!!!

I think this move will benefit the offense greatly. A great OC working with Bobo will improve our offense.

Searels has a great resume. He has produced All-Americans and has the heart of a lion. I think he will prepare the new O-line for us next year. He has produced some good HBs also.

I cant wait to see how Staford improves during the offseason. Now its time to go watch the NC game.

Gooooo Dawgs….Sic em!!!!!

Can the new OL coach recruit receivers who can run fast and catch? We all know that no one else on this staff can. We have a special talent in Stafford, but NO, NO GAMEBREAKERS for him to throw to. That is a shame. And shame on you Mark Richt for not being able to recruit any in six years!

Horn, you’re so sweet.

By the way, anyone else notice that Jimbo Fisher didn’t want to work for the Larry Brown of football coaches? If it wasn’t personal, maybe it’s because he has a goal of spending as little time in Tuscaloosa as possible. By leaving the SEC, he may never have to go back.

Coach Richt did a GREAT JOB in hiring Stacey Searels. He will definitely help the Georgia offense reach its potential! We have had unbelievable bad luck with our offensive line recruits getting injured for the last 4-5 years. Maybe Lady Luck will come our way for a while! Coach Searels is a proven commodity and we welcome him and his family to our program! Go DAWGS!!!

Most bloggers and internet guessperts assumed Richt would go with some old connections via Bowden or UGA. Hugh Nall, Brad Scott, Jeff Bowden were all supposed to be sure hires. This proves that Richt is not interested in politics, just winning. Jimbo Fisher is gonna’ end up at Southern U. if he doesn’t stop playing both ends against the middle in his job searches.

It turns out the van that burned up belonged to some Georgia Tech football players. The fire caused millions of dollars in damage although it did not spread beyond the van. Everyone in a two mile radius failed a drug test.

Glad to hear Searels did not major in sociology in Auburn — that means he probably had to go to class. His Profile - LSU’s Website

Will Bo Pelini get a head coaching spot? His name was tossed around with Fisher. (Fisher obviously assumes he will be picked to replace Bobby.) Maybe all of this is why Dan Radakovich went to Tech.

Happy New Year, Chip.

I’m really enjoying watching Mark Richt mature as a head coach. He shows a quiet confidence in his own abilities but not arrogance. Weathered what could have been a disaster mid-season and ended up finishing strong.

Now in the off season, is making subtle but important changes, and as GW points out, gets a hire from outside the family, which shows his own growth again. I like this hire.

I think in a season or two, FSU will come calling, but by then, if not already, everyone will know that Richt is a full-blooded dawg, and he won’t be leaving Athens for a couple of decades.

Scott, you want WR’s? We have the best WR and maybe #1 prospect in the country already committed for next year.

There is also Taveris(sp?) King who will be the #1 receiver in georgia next year who should be lock to the dawgs.

Listen the Dawgs have always done well in recruiting. Richt, Gardner, Bobo, and Martinez can flat out get it done. Adding Searls who is an upgrade at the coaching position as well as recruiting will only intensify what the dawgs are getting done.

T. Barndhart is an idiot. He has OK. at 3, Fl. (who will lose 4 games next year)at 5, and VT at 10.

Ga. at 15? I’m not a blind homer but Ga. is a top 10 team next year. I would base that off of the defense returning a stout Sencobdary and DT’s.

I try not to get to caught up with recruiting but we have done well year after year after year in recruiting.

We are at least number 10 in ranking next year.

Badger Dawg, my man, I’m a Dawg fan just like you. I sorely wish that we were playing in that game and I sincerely believe we will be before Stafford leaves. I pulled for the Reptiles ONLY BE CAUSE WE’RE IN THE SAME CONFERENCE. bUT DON’T START MAKING EXCUSES FOR OSU. IF THEY HAD WON, THEIR NOT PLAYING A CONFERNCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WOULD’NT HAVE COME UP. yOUR WISCONSIN TEAM DID A GREAT JOB AND WON THEIR BOWL GAME BUT LOOK AT ALL THE BOWL GAMES INVOLVING SEC TEAMS AND WE HAD AN OUTSTANDING BOWL SEASON. THE BIG 10 HAS LOOKED DOWN THEIR NOSE AT THE SEC BECAUSE OF THAT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AND SIAD THEY DON’T NEED IT BECAUSE THE WINNER OF THEIR CONFERENCE WAS AS GOOD S ANYONE. WELL MICH. GOT BLOWN OUT BUT TONIGHT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE WHEN THE BIG 10 STOOD UP AND SHOWED WHO WAS THE BEST, INSTEAD, I CAN THINK OF SEVERAL TEAMS IN THE SEC THAT I THINK WOULD BEAT THEM. AS MUCH AS I HATE TO DO , I’VE GOT TO GIVE THE REPTILES THE CREDIT THEY’RE DUE. THEY PLAYED THE REAL OSU TONIGHT AND THE WORLD SAW WHO WAS THE BEST TEAM AND WHICH CONFERENCE HAD THE BEST CHAMPION

They do deserve credit, but I don’t give them credit for anything except for being the jort mullet capital of the world, so you won’t see them getting any from me. You’ve got admit that not playing in 7 weeks can be a problem. Also, LSU has got to be kicking themselves, they’re the best team in the conference and they should be taking the trophy home and not UF.

This is a perfect example (along with the Notre Dame loss and the Virginia Tech loss) of just how much better SEC teams are than these other teams that get high rankings in the polls. It’s unbelievable to me that the BCS tried so hard to keep an SEC team out of the Championship game this year (if it weren’t for USC losing a game they shouldn’t have they would have somehow been selected over Florida.) I’m a DAWG fan and hate the Gators, but I was pulling for them just as further proof of how powerful the SEC is compared to other divisions in college football.

Badger Dawg, tonight was Reptile relative’s birthday so I had to give him a little love. They made the SEC look good. NOW THAT’S THE END OF ALL THAT AND I’M GLAD I LIVE 3000 MILES AWAY FROM J’VILLE BECAUSE THEY’LL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO LIVE WITH. NOW I WANT US TO FIND SOME RECEVERS WHO’LL CATCH THE BALL IN TRAFFIC. WE MUST HAVE SOME FOR ‘07. I WANT BOTH TEAMS TO MEET AT THE PARTY UNDEFEATED AND LET’S BEAT’UM MANO VS. MANO. I’M HOPING WM DOESN’T UNDER ESTIMATE THE SPREAD OPTION BECAUSE IF HE DOES WE’LL LOSE TO THEM AGAIN. WE KNOW THAT THAT “O” WILL WORK SO WE BETTER PREPARE. I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ‘08, I WANT TO WIN THE SEC IN ‘07. NO MORE OF THIS REBUILDING STUFF. BOBO AND MATTHEW WILL BE READY AND I BELIEVE OUR “OL” LINE WILL BE ALSO.

1-Loss SEC 2 in Row MNCG Chris Leak Awesome

All I can say is that I told you so, you fans who cannot give credit to Florida because we have Lost to Florida 15 of the last 17 games when they beat 7 ranked teams. Ohio State beat what ? Michigan. That’s the only team Ohio State beat; no wonder Troy Smith looked good against such a cupcake schedule to be even beginning to be Number 1. Ohio State did not even play Wisconsin; Good Lord. Excuse me worthless did not even play for their conference championship, Number 19 Texas.

The last two 1-loss SEC teams kicked booty in the mythical pick two national championship game for all the SEC haters. The SEC also has the most bowl victories with six (6).

The Big Ten (11) did not even have enough teams to fill all their bowl tie-ins, and got blown out of the water at 2-5 in the bowl games.

It was miserable.

Staked to a 7-0 lead on the opening kickoff, Ohio State never stopped Chris Leak and Florida’s Offense. Never.

The score, for those fans who gave Florida no respect for all the seven (7) Ranked SEC teams this morning, from that point forward was 41-7.

Nice bowl season again for the hapless Big 10 in bowl games, who is now 94-101-1 in bowl games for the dead last worst of every football conference in bowl game performances. But, it was Michigan who deserved to play Ohio State and NOT Florida ? Bull hockey.

Michigan was blown out of the water by a team who had already lost two (2) games.

The SEC extended its bowl game success to 177-145-9 for the teams actually in the SEC at the time they represented the SEC.

Florida beat Number 17 Tennessee vols, Number 4 LSU, Number 22 Georgia, beat Number 25 South Carolina, beat Number 26 Kentucky, beat Bobby Bowden the Winningest 1-A Football Coach of All-Time, beat Number 12 Arkansas and obliterated Number 1 Ohio State’s thugs including but not limited to this crap of voting the Heisman Trophy as the best college football player in mid-November before even Conference Championship let alone BCS Championship games. Troy Smith you will recall was found Guilty of beating up a woman in a parking lot and found Guilty by the NCAA of taking illegal cash inducements at Ohio State.

For that, he got to play a 1-loss SEC team. So, take your SEC hatred elsewhere.

Congratulations to Florida, and too damn bad LSU could not have played them in the Plus 1 +1 game, as it should have been.

The SEC should absolutely secede from the BCS.

The BCS is a joke.

Number 1 BCS and Number 3 BCS obliterated in the BCS Bowl Championship Series.

Number 4 LSU clearly is far more deserving of Number 2 than Ohio State.

Ohio State played absolutely NO ONE, and beat absolutely NO ONE, and what Troy Smith did against such a cupcake schedule was to prove once again that the Heisman Trophy is as flawed as it can be, allowing votes prior to Conference Championship Games.

Again, as last season, who would you give the Heisman Trophy to Today please ?

It’s easy to look good playing no one, even if you were the only person found Guilty in the parking lot where a woman told us all that she had her jaw broken by Troy Smith and also found Guilty by the NCAA for violations of the accepting illegal cash inducements. Troy Smith is 5’ 11” and 198 lbs. who had a grand total of one (1) third down conversion all night long.

And, 8:30 is way too late to be playing anything.

By the way, while we all sat here for 5 entire days since the last blowout by LSU of Notre Shame on January 3rd, we could have played LSU against Florida and then we would have had the 2 best teams in this BS of pick two mythical national championship game that everyone said was flawed because Florida jumped Michigan.

Michigan, you recall was the “greatest” 1-loss team you said because they only lost to Ohio State by a measly field goal 39-42.

Then Michigan promptly stunk it up in their BCS BS Bowl Championship Game 32-18 to a 2-loss team. But, Michigan was great because they beat Notre Dame, who played absolutely not one ranked team otherwise. That’s it for Michigan’s ranked opponents too.

LSU obliterated Notre Dame, if you can even remember 5 days ago, by the same exact score that Florida obliterated Ohio State and exposed them BOTH 41-14.

There is no way in hell that Michigan and Notre Dame deserved to be in the BCS Numbers 3 and 11, now is there ?

Notre Dame, by the way for the Notre Dame fans who told me that the football world revolves around Notre Dame has now lost an NCAA All-Time Record 9 Consecutive Bowl Games, has a several bowl games under .500 bowl losing record, and has not won a bowl game since January 2, 1995 when Notre Dame Lost that Bowl Game a span of 11 years of Notre Dame having not won a bowl game in a Row. Charlie Weis ? Charlie Weis, who has YET to beat a College Ranked Football Team according to ANY Final Poll EVER, has about as good a Defense as does Ohio State.

BCS Peter Wolfe Final Poll out a few minutes ago has SEC Florida Number 1, Georgia Number 22, Virginia Tech Number 23, Kentucky Number 25, and South Carolina Number 26. Oklahoma with 3 losses in a nobody Conference is the Top Ranked Big XII cupcake at Number 16. And, the Top Ranked ACC all crap conference team is Number 20 Weak Forest, Good Lord. Kentucky again is the 7th Ranked SEC Team in the Final BCS Peter Wolfe Poll for 2006-2007 and South Carolina is Number 26 for the 8th. When 75 percent of your league is ranked, 8 teams, with 6 Bowl Wins, please let me know, ok ?

http://prwolfe.bol.ucla.edu/cfootball/ratings.htm

BCS Wes Colley unbiased Final Poll, which is based upon wins and losses against every other of the 119 Division 1-A teams, has Ohio State Number 4 now this morning, 3 SEC teams in the Top 8 to lead the nation, and Georgia Bulldogs are Number 23. Number 22 (Peter Wolfe) and Number 23 (Wes Colley unbiased) for Georgia Bulldogs so far in the BCS Final Polls.

http://www.colleyrankings.com/

BCS Richard Billingsley Final Poll is due out in a few more minutes yet at either :

http://www.cfrc.com/ratings2006/wk16.htm

http://www.cfrc.com/ratings_2006/final.htm

Neither of which work yet. I guess he fell asleep watching The SEC kick butt in the 6 SEC Bowl Wins ?

So, what we have of the BCS Final Polls, so far is Georgia is Number 22 or Number 23 and the SEC has 7 Ranked Teams with yet an 8th at Number 26.

Take that SEC haters.

Especially you Big 10 and ACC loud-mouths posting your braggadocio right exactly HERE compared to the SEC.

How is this good for a Georgia Bulldogs’ Fan for Florida to be The Nation’s Best Team at BOTH Men’s Basketball AND Division 1-A Collegiate Football ?

Duh.

Let me think now. Uh, is it because the SEC is Number 1 in the Nation at both Major College Sports ?

Is it because Georgia rode Florida’s coattails whom we have beaten but twice in the last 17 years to be now today Georgia the ONLY FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN AMERICA to be Ranked in the Final AP Poll 10 Consecutive Years today ?

Remember telling me it was NOT 10 years ? Or, that the AP Poll is not the most widely recognized, quoted, and most respected Collegiate Football Final Poll, and the Final Polls are the only ones the only Polls EVER published for the season 2006-2007 now over.

Bring on Recruiting Season, then Spring G-Day Game then bring on the Big XII in our Opener, Oklahoma State who won their bowl game to be 8-6, then Steve Spurrier whom we have beaten two consecutive years at South Carolina who ended up a Top 25 Football Team at 8-5, then Nick Saban and Alabama, then Tennessee who has lost 4 of the 6 games against Coach Richt, then National Champions SEC Champion Florida Crocodiles in JAX’s Gator Bowl, then Number 7 Auburn ‘Tween the Hedges on Vince Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium, then 95 Number 25 Kentucky, then Number nothing Georgia Tech 9-5 at their crappy cut down stadium where we own them without Calvin Johnson who did diddle-e-squat with 2 catches for 14 yards against the Number 7 Total Defense of Willie Martinez’s Georgia Junkyard Dawg Defense, and then who knows ?

You can hide behind your keyboard, and try to come in here and put The SEC down again.

Good Luck because you look like Crap Today SEC haters.

6 Bowl Wins, 7 Ranked Teams an 8th Ranked Number 26, and National Champion SEC Champion Florida.

Great Season Florida. You really kicked some Northern Butt.

Not that Georgia Bulldogs have ever lost to Ohio State, because we have NOT, and in fact have beaten Ohio State’s butts every time we have played them.

Speaking of which, SEC Georgia Bulldogs, Ranked Final AP Poll 10 Consecutive Seasons Today and COUNTING for the ONLY one to have done so for the last entire decade in the best poll the AP Poll, SEC Georgia Bulldogs ALSO HAVE NEVER LOST A BOWL GAME TO A BIG 10 TEAM EVER, 8-0 since 1992 over the Big 10 including Ohio State.

What a miserable football game for the 17 thugs arrested on Ohio State’s teams. Did FOX tell you any of that tonight ?

Well ?

SEC rules the Big 10 in Bowl Games.

Rules.

1 with the Best Bowl Record and the other instead with the worst, obviously, and not just this season but FOREVER.

But, this season too.

Final AP Poll OUT :

.Number 25 Tennessee vols.

.Number 23 Georgia Bulldogs, yeah (Beat Number 9 Auburn and Number 19 Virginia Tech, which is more than Ohio State can say.)

.Number 3 LSU.

.Number 9 Auburn, who cannot have Bobby Petrino now the Falcons’ Coach.

.Number 15 Arkansas.

.Number 17 Notre Dame, with Charlie Weis the worst defense in America and 2nd worst defense in America in the last 2 game behind only Ohio State in that regard, and Charlie Weis has still NOT BEATEN ONE SINGLE SOLITARY RANKED TEAM EVER.

.Number 23 Georgia, yeah.

Number 25 Tennessee vols, double yeah, for the dead last worst ranked SEC Team.

Hey guys. Kudos to the gators. Amazing what happens when receivers CATCH the damn football. Their receivers were simply awesome. Harvin looks like a guy that is going to give us (and everyone else) fits. Makes me glad that we have recruited fast LBs in last year’s class. Richt needs to hire Fla’s receivers coach. Pay him a million if you have to….

Go Dawgs.

First of all, thank you FLORIDA for representing our conference in fine fashion. Job well done. Second, you earned it… The SEC has produced BCS NC’s with TENNESSEE, LSU, and now FLORIDA. Am I leaving anybody out? Forget about the rub AUBURN got. They deserved a shot, but so did 2 others that year. Nonetheless, from a SEC viewpoint, AU got hosed…Final polls are like beauty contests. If you’re pretty down the stretch, you get what you deserve. Only the top ten in final polls mean anything. Preseason polls are the worst indicator of all. Pay little attention to them…2007 will be exciting in the SEC…UGA—IF you beat FLORIDA in ‘07, please don’t rip down the goalposts in JAX (ala : UT at Dooley Field). Silly gooses…

Spring is drawing near…

I know our “OL” will have to get up to speed in a hurry; however, I’m so concerned about our people catching the ball and have no idea what I would do if I were the WR coach. i’ve already given the Reptiles a BIG PAT ON THE BACK BECAUSE THEY DESERVED IT! CMR has been working on that and I hope that with him having more time to be a HC, he’ll spend more time with the WRs and their coach. He didn’t have this problem at FSU so why now. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING OR HAVE AN IDEA? DALLAS BAKER WAS ALMOST KICKED OFF THE rEPTILE TEAM U8NTIL URBAN SET HIM DOWN AND SAID, YOU SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT. WE MAY NEED SOME OF THAT.

Bulldawg-WOW! Incredibly long but tons of info! I agree completely. Ohio St. toughest game was Michigan (only ranked opponent?)Michigans toughest game is Ohio St. NOtre Lame is on their schedule but please, don’t make me laugh. When you play all for service academies, n. carolina, illinois, etc. and lose to the only ranked opponents you play you are not a BCS team. It’s really a shame that an undefeated Auburn team who had two top 5 picks and 5 1st rounders got snubbed out of the NC. People who can’t see the SEC is above and beyond the best conference just blow me away! Congrats to the Gators for doing the SEC proud last night.

Hey Buck, all the gators proved last night was how fast the sec is. They ean the same crap all year in the sec and the highest game they scored was 28 points and they needed help to score that much. It’s a gimmicky offense and speed negates a lot of what they do. osu was like molasses out there last night.

I’m not saying meyer and company did not do well last night. That’s the best game that have put together. Reminds me of our game against lsu last year in sec champ. Still that game last night was about the fl. defense. They have saved fl. butt all year and showed how good sec defenses can be last night.

slow buck, slow. We would have beat osu. of course I believe we would have beat penn. st. and wisconson too.

It’s a shame we didn’t get in the top 25 of the coaches poll. Darn you tubby for not giving us the vote we needed.

What a joke game that was!! Maybe people will give the SEC a little more credit next time! Maybe people will realize that when you play a bunch of nobodies then will get beat by a somebody! OSU even ran the opening kickoff back! THey had momentum on their side and did NOTHING all night!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I love it!! “NOTRE DAME IS THE BEST!” BEAT 41-14 BY LSU, “MICHIGAN GOT CHEATED OUT OF THE NC!” SHALACKED BY A 2 LOSS TEAM!! “FLA DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE ON THE SAME FIELD AS ‘THE’ OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!! WHIPPED 41-14!!! GA. IS GOING TO GET EMBARRASSED AT HOME BY THE NATIONS BEST DEFENSE!! BLOW A 20+ POINT LEAD AT HALFTIME TO LOSE BY 7 TO AN ‘OVERRATED’ FRESHMAN PHENOM!!! BOISE ST. CAN’T HANG WITH THE BIG BOYS!! 3 TRICK PLAYS LATER THEY PROVED OTHERWISE!!! WHAT A GREAT BOWL SEASON!!

BTW: Congrats to the Gators (I can’t believe I just typed that) for beatdown they put on an Ohio Sate University. They need to change the title of this video to How it feels to be a Buckeye. Can we now please stop hearing how great the Big 10/11 and Notre Dame are?

You can see based on the bowls the big ten was highy overrated. Wisconsin had a good win but towards the end of the season Arkansas could not throw at all. I said near the end of the season, UGA, FL, TN, AUB, LSU and ARK could compete with anyone in the country, maybe not win every game, but compete well. The SEC is by far the toughest conference in football. Even the “bad” teams in the SEC could compete well in most other conferences, Vandy beat UGA, played FL tough, Miss St. played UGA tough, beat Alabama, Kentucky won 7 in the regular season, Mississippi beat LSU. No one can make a good argument for another conference.

BuLLdawg, you are a smart*ss blogger, Your comments are not welcome by Auburn people and most UGA posters.Your problem BuLLdawg is it eats you alive for Auburn to finish in the Top ten and your way of words is unbelievable. UGA took Auburn to woodshed and had a very game, but you play 11 more games to determine top ten or 23 or not listed in final polls. “UGA has never lost to Ohio State” , either has ANY SEC SCHOOL INCLUDING AUBURN, IS GOOD EXAMPLE OF YOUR “SHOWCASE BS”.

Buck, here is another reason i love our 2007 class. Rennie Curran! A speed tackling demon. Enjoy.

Rennie stands for everything we want at UGA whether you are a graduate or not.

You are correct Conyers Dawg, but that comment about Petrino was just uncalled for, its shows his IQ in being a blogger. All he has is stats and they bore most people… Good game against Va Tech, Auburn is having a good year recruiting #10, but really need to get the 5 star OL lineman out of ARK. who has narrow his choices to AU and Arky. Offensive lineman are hard to find and recruit. Auburn is rated I think #14 by Barnhart next season, it might be a little high unless we get better QB play out of Cox.Florida will be the team to beat with LSU not far behind.

Buck Cochran, BuLLdawg, Conyers and BadgerDawg

Ohio State was 0-7 in bowl games all time coming into last night against SEC teams, now they are 0-8.

IMO Wisconsin was the best team in the Big Ten this year and even though they won their bowl game they still get no respect. Ranked 7th in final AP, and 5th in Coaches poll.

As for the Gators all that speed did make a difference as Mr. Smith was caught from behind by Florida’s DL on a couple of occasions. Also it was obvious that the Buckeyes had bought into all the hype and hadn’t come prepared to play. This was one of the best bowl seasons ever, lots of high scoring and exciting games. And lastly Norte Dame did not deserve to be in a BCS bowl and this part of the BCS needs to be changed as well. Go Dawgs and Go SEC

crs: the sec’s bottom feeders got ran over by teams from the big east. so no that argument will not fly here.

war: the fact that you took precious time out of your life to read bulldawg’s gibberish does not speak well for you. all i know is he disappeared during the stretch in the middle of the season when the dawgs struggled so he lost all credibility with me as a true dawg fan.

i guess on the whole discussion you and i had earlier this season both of us were right to a certain extent. the SEC is king! i agreed with you on that i just didn’t think the gap was as wide as some of you liked to believe. i used the big east a conference everyone loves to kill as an example.. i think the big east was little better than you gave them credit for. and the sec is even better than i gave them credit for.

i’m sorry i’m a college football fan but i couldnt’ even watch last night’s game. there’s nothing about florida winning that makes me happy. to hell with florida!

I’m holding my breath also. Stay still Chan the man. Conyers Dawg, I’ve never said that the spread option didn’t have to have a good “D” to go with the “O”. But man I don’t understand why you still don’t think that type of “O” won’t work in the SEC. IMO the results speak for themselves. The Dawgs will run a lot of the spread in ‘07, watch. In the 2nd half of the Va.Tech, Bobo opened up the play book and what did we see? A lot of 4 receiver sets and a couple of 5 receiver sets. It’s called the spread. I’ve never said it’s unbeatable, but did you notice how many times Leak was in an no backfield set? In ‘07 we’ll see that a lot with Stafford. I’m glad we’re getting the linemen we need in this class. I’ve not given a thought to ‘08, I’m focused on ‘07. To really make our “O” go this season, receivers MUST CATCH THE BALL. The spread and spread option attack is now being used in H.S. across the country. The players love it and since Stafford has played the “Spred” type “O” all of his life I just can’t and won’t see Bobo not playing to the strenght of his QB. I would really like some of you other Dawgs opinions. BTW, even though they dropped the ball, did you notice how many different Dawgs got touches including Backs out of the backfield?

Conyerdawg - don’t hate…. congratulate. In less than 365 days, Florida has won 2 National Championships. First Billy Donovan was doubted and he won a NC. You think others would have learned but Uraban was doubted and he had to go and win a NC in only his second year at Florida. That “gimmicky offense” won an SEC championship and a NC without the ideal players to run it…..but of course it would never work in the SEC! Tebow’s got something that Stafford will never get…… a National Championship!!!

The last two attempts at complete sentences in your post above shows you are still in obvious pain having 51 plastered on you by Tennessee.Either that or you realize Tennessee is simply better than UGA by what, 19-15-2.Forget about it,BuLLfrog. You still own Vanderbilt and Kentucky and should finish 2nd or 3rd in the east next year.

To gator the dog catcher, the majority of Dawg have congratulated you for your game and Championship. NOW IT’S TIME TO START OVER FOR ‘07. pERCY hARVIN IS A GREAT PLAYER BUT tIM tEBOW HAS TO PROVE HE CAN’T RUN AND “O” AN ENTIRE GAME AND NOT JUST IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS. MY REPTILE RELATIVE CALLS TEBOW A RB. WHO CAN THROW THE BALL. YOU’LL HAVE TO SEE HOW LONG AND IF HE DEVELOPES AS AN OUTSTANDING QB. I THINK HE’LL BE PRETTY GOOD BUT STAFFORD HAS PLAYED HIS WAY THROUGH THE LESSON LEARNING AND PROVEN HE CAN WIN.(DAWGS 37-AU 15) ENJOY YOURSELF AND GET READY FOR THE “PARTY” BECAUSE YOU’LL SEE A DAWG TEAM LIKE YOU’VE NOT SEEN IN THE RICHT ERA. WE’LL BE IN J’VILLE AND THIS WILL BE THE YEAR THAT WE BREAK THROUGH. MANO V. MANO. SEE YOU ON THE FILD AT THE END OF OCT.

January 9, 2007 04:51 PM | Link to this

gtdc, congrats to your team(s). I know its feels great to win NCAA championships in multiple sports in the same year. Georgia did a few years back winning in six or seven things (somebody help me out…um… sync swimming, billiards, canoeing…and..um…). Well, obviously not the two biggies, again, nice accomplishment for your school. UF made the SEC look good and we appreciate that.

Luckily, another nice thing about college sports is each season you get to start with a fresh slate and that’s what we, in the Bulldog Nation, are looking towards now.

I’m NOT gonna say (NW) that, “I really feel this is going to be our breakout year. Next year is a whole new era in Georgia football.” I’m NOT going to say that because that’s what Carolina says EVERY year and it gets old and sounds lame and after all, until we put together some back-to-back wins against the Gators we really can’t talk smack at all (although that doesn’t seem to be a problem for SC or even the Techsters, for that matter).

Anyway, congrats again. Now please show some class and enjoy your victory with dignity.

Gator the dog catcher, Its really amazing a kid can come out of high school as PH and play SEC football like a veteran of a senior. You better enjoy him next year because he will be gone to the NFL in 2008. Also, how a team improve can from 28 point/ game average to 41 in a NC game? the defense has always been present, but great coaching.I am almost the same believer to Tedow as Buck is to Stafford, but the real deal is Tedow with his size, arm and intense desire. I think MS will be a major factor for UGA, but Florida is definietly a team of the future and I am glad Auburn has them only one more year.cuz, i really don`t read chicken mature stories, I was strolling down and saw the commend about Petrino and almost vomited…BuLldawg is a rat behind a keyboard.
