UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Do all Dogs say “Go Hogs?”

The SEC Championship Game is being played in Atlanta this weekend and, for just the second time in the last five years, Georgia’s not in it.

So where does that put the game on the radar screen of the Bulldog Nation?

I tend to gauge such things off my younger brother, a UGA graduate and big-time football fan (he doesn’t really get into basketball or baseball much). Anyway, he’s fired up about watching the SEC title game on television and there is no uncertainty whatsoever with him in terms of whom he wants to win.

He’s Arkansas all the way!

For him it’s pretty simple: Florida is Florida and Arkansas is not Florida. The way he explains it, if you’re Georgia, you can’t root for Florida in anything. Ever.

So is that how all you Dawgs feel about it? Is there no Eastern Division pride at play here?

It is a really intriguing matchup. Can the Gators contain Darren McFadden (they’re ranked No. 10 in the nation in total defense, you know)? I can’t wait to see McFadden on the fast track that is the Georgia Dome’s Field Turf.

Meanwhile, you’ve got a pretty good Florida team that has been anything but dominant but just continuously does what it takes to win. Can the Hogs stop Chris Leak, Percy Harvin, Dallas Baker and company? If Florida wins, does that make it the SEC team to beat –- instead of Georgia -– the next few years?

Let’s hear your analyses and score predictions for the game.

I hope Arkansas kicks their butts back to Gainesville, but it probably won’t happen. Gators 31-21.

Dawgs need to wise up and schedule an open date before the Gator game just like the Gators have done to get ready for them for years. An extra week of preparation makes a big difference.

Eastern division pride? For the Gators? Hogwash. The Gators have been scraping by. It’s time for them to go down. I just hope Urban doesn’t cry this time. Razorbacks 28-Gators 14. With no place kicker the Gators will not win the SEC championship.

I had the good fortune of attending the 2002 SEC Championship Game in which UGA smashed Arkansas 34-14. I thought the Arkansas fans were very nice and I appreciate good sports, especially ones who seem to truly appreciate their team. Florida fans are NEVER nice. They are arrogant and rude. I will always root against Florida-in any sport. I hope Arkansas exposes Florida. My prediction: Arkansas 24, Florida 12 (they will miss both extra points).

Before Florida fans shout sour grapes, let me add that I attended UGA in the mid-late ‘80’s (before Spurrier) when we basically owned them and they weren’t gracious losers either!!

If Florida wins the SEC Championship, that makes them the team to beat NEXT year. Nothing more. Georgia will be reloaded, and Tim Tebow will find out how hard it is to win a game in the SEC when you have to play the entire game and your only real talent is running the ball. Barring a slew of injuries, Georgia will be back in Atlanta next December, and it won’t be for the Peach Bowl.

I can never root for Fl. They are the only team during the bowls that I don’t go for either. Other then that I want the SEC to dominate the bowl season.

I can’t stand any hype Meyer gets. He is a crying whiner who does not thank the defense enough for carrying his pathethic offense.

Ark. is good but they are not the team to beat the next couple of years. If Les Miles can keep up the recruiting at lsu then the dawgs, tigers, and gators will continue to be the teams to beat. You can throw in auburn too.

No, “justme,” UGA wants to win titles year in and year out. The Tech game is an afterthought each and every year. It is the Techies who said, less than 2 weeks ago, that the most important thing is to beat UGA. Something Tech can rarely do. I think the last time they did…the only thing Dubya had f’ed up was the Texas Rangers.

I’m cheering for Arkansas for the same reason mentioned above…they’re not the Florida Gay-turds or as a sign at the GA/FLA game a few years back stated: The schlong of the U.S.

Arkansas is a dangerous team and has been a great story this year considering Nutt was almost ran out of town last year. I still wish they could of had a healthy McFadden when they played So Cal.

If Arkansas wins the SEC, some predict they’ll play Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl…which would be another outstanding game seeing how ND has a weak defense.

On another note…I just read that although unofficial, its almost a certainty that LSU is going to the Rose Bowl. They will play either MICH or USC. I would actually be in favor of an Ohio State vs Mich rematch if I could see LSU play USC in the Rose Bowl. I would rather see that than any NC match up they can computerize. LSU vs MICH would be good, but I would rather see LSU vs USC.

My family & I just moved here from Arkansas about a year ago and we are so happy that the Hogs made it to the SEC Championship game this year! We have worked really hard for this and no one deserves it more!! We will be back next year and if Georgia is lucky they will get a chance to play us and I’m pretty sure we will win!! It’s nice to hear so many Georgia Fans want us to win but of course it’s only because most GA fans hate Florida! I’ve heard that when we came to the Champ Game against Ga a few years back that Georgia fans were very rude and mean to the Arkansas fans! That’s just wrong! I so wish that we could have had a chance to stomp the bulldogs this year! Mcfadden would have ran all over you! But thanks again for all of your support! hogfan94…you can’t be serious. You have a gripe because when Ark played UGA our fans were mean. Dude, if you are one, this is football. Fans of opposing teams usually take shots at each other when they play. That’s part of the fun of football, especially in the SEC. Good luck Sat. and don’t look for the Gaytor fans to praise your team Saturday. Trust me, you will find them to be “mean” also.

hogfan94, I was at the SEC Championship in 02 when we smoked your pork butt and I never saw 1 UGA fan treating an Arkansas fan wrong. Since you were too chicken to come, I’m sure you got your information from a crybaby Hog fan. I’m sure he/she sounded alot like some of the Tech fans we have on this board making excuses about why they should have won and how the refs stole the game. I would caution you before you start talking trash in Georgia. First, we have been to the SEC Championship game the last 3 out of 4 years and have won 2! Second, if you are tired of Georgia fans we would suggest that you move your pig a* back to the trailer parks of Arkanasas!

Well, I am a Georgia fan rooting for the Hogs for more than my disdain for the Gators. I was an Arkansas fan ( Frank Boyles fan ) in the days of the Southwest Conference ( I had a favorite team in almost every conference that I thought played quality football ). I also left Georgia after graduation for a year working in Arkansas. I still hate the Gators, though, so I have double reason to root for the Hogs.

I’m certainly glad we will not have to see McFadden again unless in the SEC CG. In fairnes hogfan, we did beat you with McFadden last year. As I remember, Arkansas sold a lot of their tickets for the SEC CG in 2002 to UGA because they knew what was going to happen (30-3). When you have been in 3 title games in 5 years, it’s not luck by the way. Go Razorbacks!

I’ve had conversations with some fellow Dawgs fans at work, and some of them actually are rooting for Florida to win because they would like to see an SEC team in the national championship.

My response was “…And to hell with Flor-i-daaaa!”

How can any true Dawgs fan root for the Gators? If it ain’t the Dawgs in the NC, I don’t give hairy frog’s hiney whether an SEC team is there or not.

WOOFWOOFWOOF!

(And I also am glad we don’t have to face McFadden again. Last year was rough enough.)

I haven’t a dog in the Dome Saturday night, and I have reason to pull for neither of them. So I look at the game from the sidelines. Arkansas has the better run game and can control the clock if run game is successful. Florida has a better two prong attack. Both D’s play well. AR had to play alot of pass coverage, but so did FL. The ‘bend but don’t break’ game goes to FL. So in a totally unbiased opinion, FL wins…My biased opinion is that LSU is the SEC’s best at seasons end, no matter who’s playing for the SEC Championship, no matter the records…

My 2 favorite teams on Saturdays are the Georgia Dawgs and whoever is playing Florida! I live in south Ga. and we have hated the gators as long as I can remember, even when we were knocking them around every year.

I hate every little thing associated with UF, which is why I can’t pull for So. Carolina ever since that visor slingin’, headset spikin’, lip curler took the reins from granny Holtz.

In a related story, I heard a rumor that SC scientists were putting the finishing touches on a boomerang visor a few weeks ago before a War Eagle plucked it from the sky!

I can recall the game in the ‘Dome in 2002. We were switching trains at the Marta Station Hub before the game when we got behind a large Arky crowd whooping it up! When I say large I don’t mean there were alot of them. They piled onto the “up” escalator all at one time. When I got within 10 feet of the bottom the damn thing collapsed and started rolling backwards faster than they could fall. I remember a little old lady was standing about 5 places ahead of me disappeared in a pile of pork. There was meat stacked everywhere, EVERYWHERE!

.

.

I predict that Florida will play in the Citrus CapitalOne Bowl in Orlando January 1st against a Wisconsin club who played one ranked team all season long and was blown out by more than twice their score in that game. The Big Ten (11) has 2 teams. That game has a payout of $4.25 million.

Georgia BuLLDawgs must beat Virginia Tech in the Peach Bowl December 30th, the 1st Bowl Game not on January 1 for UGA since David Greene’s Redshirt Freshman season December 28th 2001 in the Nashville Music City Bowl loss to Boston College, which with the 35-38 Sugar Bowl loss I attended last season in Atlanta to West Virginia gives UGA our only losing record against any conference ever at now 0-2.

If we do, we are the only team ranked for 10 consecutive seasons in the Final AP Poll, now ranked today Number 26.

We cannot make the BCS Top 25 Final Ranking Sunday. We are Number 28.

We 4 consecutive prior years, played in a January 1 Bowl Game.

The Peach Bowl payout is $5.6 million dollars.

We have 42 Bowls to-date. Alabama with 53 Bowls is the leader. Texas has 46. Tennessee has 46. Southern California has 45. Nebraska has 44. We are 6th in Bowl Games. Michigan is not close to us, for example.

Oklahoma, with 40 Bowl Games, is tied with Georgia with 25 Wins or Ties in Bowl Games. These are the two former outcomes in Bowl Games that count in Winning Percentage, which last time I looked is the objective.

Penn State, in 39 Bowl Games, has 26 Wins including the one over us 23-27 in the Sugar Bowl I attended in New Orleans at the end of the 1983 season. And, only Alabama who has 33 Wins or Ties in Bowl Games – besides Penn State – has more Bowl Wins and Ties than The Georgia BuLLDawgs’ 25. Georgia is 3rd in the nation in Wins and Ties Bowl Game results.

It does no good today to discuss what I said this time last season, that Georgia would not have a losing record in Sugar Bowl Games nor against any conference ever, had we beat West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl I went to in Atlanta last season. I would have thought that was enough motivation for us. I think it went without notice, but by me.

However, being ranked Number 26 in the AP Poll last Sunday night makes it absolutely certain that we must beat Virginia Tech in the Peach Bowl to be Final AP Poll ranked for the 10th consecutive season, which no football program in America has done with us. I would hope that someone would pick up on this this season, as I lay it out for our men.

We have won 7, and this can be 8 of these last 10 years’ bowl games that we have won, and which all 10 years if we do we are the only program to be ranked every year in the Final AP Poll.

Let’s get with the program this year.

I am sick and tired of hearing how Tech is over its hangover of last Saturday playing Weak Forest, and then not going to the Gator Bowl if they lose because they do not travel well. Congrats Tech lawyers on forcing the Gator Bowl to take worthless Georgia Tech, all 2 of you Tech fans who are buying the 4 seats and parking pass for $50 total.

Hangover ?

Tech ?

What ? Tech had a party after losing their 6th consecutive game to Coach Richt and 5th in a row head-to-head between Chandler Gailey and Coach Richt ? Hangover ?

Tech is a hangover to keep up with on their 1st of 2 consecutive seasons of being ON NCAA MAJOR DATABASE GUILTY VIOLATIONS PROBATION FOR CHEATING AND PLAYING AS THEIR BEST 11 PLAYERS THOSE ENTIRE 6 SEASONS, 11 “STUDENT”-ATHLETES NOT A ONE OF WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE ANYWHERE BUT GEORGIA TECH.

Waah, we want to go to the Gator Bowl.

Twits.

The Gator Bowl pays $2.5 million.

Emerald, Champs Sports, Humanitarian, Silicon Valley, and Seattle bowl games are where Tech has gone the last 4 years while we played on January 1st instead all 4 years.

Emerald pays $750k and costs $1.2 million to attend. There were both (2) Tech fans in attendance, as Tech always has at bowl games, and Tech does not have more Bowl Wins than Georgia either any longer.

And, Georgia Tech is 3 less in Bowl Wins and Ties than Georgia, again, which is the objective; as Tech will have Lost 5 bowl games while Georgia has Won instead by direct contrast 8 of the last 10 years’ worth, after we win again and after Tech loses again, hangover or not.

You are so pitiful Tech making the Gator Bowl take you when you lose to Weak Forest, when not one of you is going to the game and you know it.

I do not understand Chip Towers why you are so confused about The Georgia BuLLDawgs’ point of view, with a younger brother who attended my alma mater and his with me ? Last Beat Blog, you stated that you are, “you know” you said Chip Towers the beat writer for UGA covering whatever sport it is that you purport to have the knowlege and ear of our fans in.

As always, AJ-C Sports Writers even the good ones such as you, cannot be held accountable for two back-to-back beat writer beat blogs you yourself wrote Chip Towers.

Are you forced to act like you look at The Georgia BuLLDawgs as if from afar working at the AJ-C ? Why the confusion about us all pulling for the hogs who never beat us ? What in the name of hell is the team that you do follow in college football, in here writing about college football twice in a row in beat blogs Chip Towers ? Come clean with us please. “Growing up in J’ville, the Reptiles are #1 on my hit list!! That’s why I want them to win the SEC Championship! I want Matthew Stafford and the Dawgs to take the title away from Tim Tebow and the Reptiles on the field in ‘07, Mano a Mano!!!!” . . . .

The SEC is not going to play in the Mythical Pick Two (2) National Championship Game this season. We have way too many top-ranked teams for any team to play them, an out-of-conference schedule of what should have been better teams like Georgia Tech and Colorado, and not be injured.

Plus, we play a championship game, a concept we the SEC invented and 1st played.

It ain’t happening.

Now, if you only play one game all season long against a ranked opponent at all ( Wisconsin played only Michigan and LOST by more than twice their score ), then you have a better chance of being at the top of the rankings, have a far less chance to lose your All-America kicker which cost us in the two losses to Intramural Vandy and soft Kentucky and your other players that get injured playing every week so many great top-ranked teams, and it doesn’t take a toll on your emotionally like Tech’s hangover this week.

Further, Florida has not been impressive.

If the Georgia Tech nerds played Florida Crocodiles, I would root for both to lose.

It is just as much fun rooting for a team to lose, as it is to sit there wanting a reason you can dream up as to why you should be wanting one of them to win.

We have lost to Arkansas ever all-told 3 times, the last of which was over 13 years ago, own them, have a 70 percent winning percentage over them, and send our grunge deadbeats whom we cannot get accepted into The University of Georgia to be their starters at defensive back.

Florida, we compete with every year, have lost 14 of the last 16 against back to 1990 solid, are down to a 9-game advantage all-time over Florida 46-37-2, and have one (1) recruit from one of the hotbeds of high school football players who go on to the NFL in the Jacksonville Gator Bowl area.

And, you dimwits have the audacity to suggest that there would be some reason why I would root for Florida against Arkansas ?

Get a Life.

I did not grow up in Jacksonville, but here by the Grace of God. I am fed up with playing Florida there, and look forward to the hogs kicking their pansies’-butts.

Florida is 4th way behind Michigan, squeaked by the vols whom we had beat 24-3 and lost. Florida lost to Auburn, whose butts we kicked from pillar to post at their place on the Plains, Florida beat us by 1 touchdown in a game that found our true Frosh not ready for Prime Time QB have 4 turnovers against, beat Intramural Vandy by 6, beat South Carolina whom we destroyed by 1 measly point, and beat hapless unranked Florida State by one score. This body of work speaks for itself, and you dimwits come in here to propagate that we should be rooting for our archrival recruiting program to be in the MNC game ? Why ? They ain’t got a prayer in the world to play in that game, as they do NOT DESERVE it. Now, do they ? So, why all the buddy-buddy about a city you left which is no better today than when you grew up there ? I knew there was something about you that I abhor, and now I can put my teeth into it that you root for Florida Buck Cochran in the NW.

BS.

There is no one going to pick Florida for any damn BCS NC Mythical Pick Two (2) National Championship Game.

Now, is there, given their body of work ?

I would find myself torn, were Florida playing Ga. Tech. I always say that I would not give you one thin dime for Ga. Tech to ever win another football game. I say the same thing about Florida. I often wonder, when the game kicked off, who I would silently be pulling for. I am positive that it would not be Ga.Tech and I would bet the mortgage it would not be Florida. What are the possibilities they could both wind up like SMU?

I hate Florida more than any team, even Tech. That being said, I’d rather see them win and have a shot at the national title as I would love to see an SEC team in the national championship. Brings more money to all the schools, and it brings more exposure to the conference.

There I said it, I never thought I’d be rooting for Florida… :)

In college football, I’m passionate about two teams: Georgia and Florida. I love the Dawgs with all my heart. Can’t help it…it’s just in my blood.

Conversely, I hate Florida.

If Georgia loses, it stings. If Florida loses that same weekend, it always eases the pain.

My hate is never directed towards any individual. I’m sure there are many fine folks who call the ‘Gators their own. When Florida loses, it’s a great day for America.

I have to agree with ALtamaha, i think. If I understood you correctly that is. We commpete with Fla. for recruits and we have to play them every year. Why would I want them to have a shot at a national title and gain more exposure? Plus I hate Fla. like every other fan who bleeds red and black. I also would like to say that for those of you who think Tebow is going to a bust? Think again. That kid put up some VERY impressive numbers in high school. Better than Stafford’s if i’m not mistaken. The truth is we don’t know if the experience he got this year will be of any benefit to him next year or not. To think that Fla. recruited one of the top Three QB’s in the country and he’ll be a bust is ridiculous. Plus, his receivers have shown a heck of a lot more consistency than ours.

Still beaming from Georgia’s sixth straight win over Georgia Tech this past Saturday, Tereshinski Sr. is hopeful Wake Forest’s success continues against the Yellow Jackets.

“I’m going to the stadium and I’m going to wear my Georgia colors and I’m going to wear my Wake Forest hat and I’m going to look at every Tech fan I can and say, ‘We whipped your (butt).’ Ain’t nothing like mashing their (butt) and putting them down in the dirt.”

Now you come on here saying you would be prouder of Georgia if we did away with the football team.

That doesn’t sound like something a Georgia fan would say. I don’t care for critical, judgmental people. If you want to call me a redneck that’s fine, but when you attack Cuz, anybody on here with Dawg in their name and take the position you would be prouder of Georgia if we did away with the football team don’t expect me to believe you are a Georgia fan.

I think ARK should win this game against the Gators. Of course, FLA could pull out a win. They have a ton of talent & they have something to really play for. Not that ARK doesn’t, but this is Leak’s last game, and as a QB, this is his opportunity to prove his doubters in the Gator Nation wrong. Even if FLA does win, I don’t think it means much for the “next few years”, though. Senior leadership AND having the luxury of running two totally different style QB’s on the field has helped Meyer this year. Next year he won’t have that luxury, SEC foes will know more of what to expect from Tebow. Besides, I personally don’t think that Meyer’s spread-option offence is going to work well enough in the SEC to put FLA on top (of the conference). I predict not woo many more 10+ win seasons for the Gators. ARK 31, FLA 27.

I know the tebow family and they are great people. It’s hard because I want Ttim to do well, but I don’t want the Gaytors to do well!!

Anyway, Richt didn’t recruit Tebow because he thinks Stafford is better. Tebow’s Dad even wanted Richt to recruit Tebow becuase he wanted Tebow to play for Richt becuase of his beliefs. But, Richt chose who he think will be the better player.

Stafford’s numbers were better than Tebow’s in high school. And now, Stafford has more experience leading a team. I am so glad we have Stafford and he will bring great things (hopefully a NC) to UGA.

I’m stunned by some of these comments. I can’t imagine the circumstances that would make me pull for Florida against anybody. Root for Florida so an SEC team can make it to the NC game? Are we talking about the same bunch that wears jean shorts and mullets, that does the Jaws chomp ad nauseum at every game, and can claim as a substantial part of its fan base half of the retired auto workers union members from up north? The same bunch that gives us the image of 60 year old bronzed, wrinkled tarts in tight shorts, bleached hair, and orange t-shirts. The humanity.
I’d rather watch Team Taliban square off against Club Lucifer in the title game than to see the Gators have a chance to back into another title game as they did in ‘96.

Hey BuLLdawg,

I wouldn’t think this would be necessary but since you asked the question, I’ll answer it. I was born and raised in Atlanta, have covered Georgia off and on for more the 21 years and went to school there myself, so obviously I have a pretty good idea of how Georgia fans think and act. This, however, is a blog, which is short for a “web log.” It is meant to elicit a discussion between like-minded people about a subject. At this moment (noon Friday), about 100 people have logged on to talk about whether they will be rooting for Arkansas or Florida and who they think will win. That’s all there is to it. So I just wanted to let you know that I am NOT confused. Just playing a role here. Meanwhile, you didn’t say who you’d thought would win and why. What’s your opinion?

**What a successful Georgia season. We won an ACC Division Championship, and may win an ACC Conference Championship this Saturday without even playing.

I know it is not as good as an SEC Division Championship or SEC Conference Championship, but it only took 8 wins to win the ACC thing while it takes at least 11 wins for the SEC.

I do expect Tech to give up and quit playing at some point in the ACC game like they did in the Emerald Bowl last year. It’s the lack of character thing.

Although UGA lost the Sugar Bowl last year, the thing I was most proud of is that they didn’t give up (like Tech did) after getting behind 28-0 in the first half and fought back to a 3 point loss. They actually put themselves in position to win the game if they had defended the WVU punt aliegnment correctly at the end and stopped them for running for a first down to run out the time. Still, I was proud of the Dogs for not being quitters, like those Tech scabs.**

Dear Nurse Crachett…

Unlike ugag fans, Tech fans are realistic and evaluate our players/team/coaches from a generally neutral perspective. By doing this, we can recognize the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Ugag fans are stupid mutts with blinders on and barely have enough of a brain to bark. They cannot evaluate anything but rather cheer on no matter what (see the many posts on this blog still talking “up” ugag football this season even though there are obvious problems with the program).

yea, I really can’t grasp the concept of wanting Fl to actually be the SEC champs so that if and when we beat them next, we can claim that we beat the SEC champs. If you ask a gator fan, I’m betting they were not pulling for us to win a few SEC crowns lately so that beating us meant more. I don’t think I heard a single team we played this year, some who beat us, talking about trying to take our crown. Once you win it, its braggin rights forever for that year. You don’t “take” the crown from somebody. Heck once a new season starts, nobody cares who won it last, (except the reighning champ).

My family and I just moved to Georgia from Fayetteville, Arkansas last summer due a job promotion and we are so happy that the Hogs made it to the championship game this year! Prefect timing for us! It’s so nice that most Georgia fans are pulling for us to win but too bad it’s only because they hate Florida so much! I know for a fact that Georgia fans are rude! When we played Georgia in the champ game a few years back the fans were so mean and ugly to the Razorback fans and for that I dislike them all! I only wish we could have that rematch this year so we could show Georgia Bulldog fans just who is the best this year! Hey maybe next year when we come back to Atlanta next year the bulldogs just might get lucky and have a chance to be there playing us again and we will stomp your bulldog butts!! I read a comment by someone that called themselves skydawg I believe and he/she made some comment about Dick, Johnson and Nutt… I’m sure they thought they were being funny and all but I think he/she needs to get their facts straight!! k-dawg I should have clerified. The CURRENT BSC is nothing like it was a few years ago, not even the same polls or citeria today as Kramers days, nor is the landscape of College football.

And sorry, but if wanting the Gators to win anything they can continue to use as braggin rights and recruiting ammo is “right”. I prefer to be wrong. Tell me again how Fl being in the SEC getting national recognition, helps the UGA football program?

Does it not make the conference look better to have the national recognition? People kiss USC’s as* all the time and when they get beat it’s a big deal. Granted they play in a weak conference. I’m really asking, i’m not being a smart a. Does it not help us and everyone who played the Gators? LSU for that matter too. If SEC teams or teams that we play are getting this national recognition in the BCS does that not help our argument about the quality of our program because of who we play? Again, I’m really asking, not trying to p** people off or be a smart a

Urban owns UGA after 2 years?! Come on, UGA still owns UF over all.

Just ask Auburn and GaTech how good Stafford really is. You guys will see fast enough next year.

I will be pulling for all things related to PORK!!!

IF Florida wins, I do NOT believe this changes the balance in the East. UF losses Leak and plenty of other talent including #1, as I predict he’ll enter the draft early. Tebow is a one dimentional player and I predict he will struggle next year, because he’s going to have to throw, an attribute he hasn’t shown much of in college. He’ll go through all the things Stafford went through this year when he has to carry the Gators on his back. I predict UGA will be right back on top next year playing in Atlanta for the SEC title!

usc has won 3 national championships yet everyone still knows they play in one of the weakest conferences in america……

the sec might not get as much respect as they deserve.. but that’s only becuase it’s tough to have a dominant team in this conference…. BUT everyone besides the nerds from across the way know the SEC is the strongest conference in america!

texas won last year it didn’t garner the big 12 as THE conference this year.. winning a national title doesn’t give the conference jack… and it definitely doesn’t give georgia ANYTHING EITHER..

Of course it helps the conference. But you don’t want to come off as a crybaby because you fell short. That makes you look worse. Look at Tuberville, still sour over the undefeated season. He didn’t start losing until he started crying again.

Here’s what it is going to take to get to the BCSNC game. A soild program for more than one year. Auburn started so far down the pole that undefeated season that they couldn’t quite overcome the long climb at season’s end. See where they were this year. Yes started out well and could have been #2 if they had not lost, even with the one loss they were still @ #5. Till we smacked them down.

So if you want to compete for the BCS title you need a consistent program that starts you out ranked high enough, and you need to win out no losses. If you lose you can’t make an argument for anything.

USC with their one title this decade has been solid over the past five years. Of course I don’t see how a team that lost to Oregon State can shoot ahead of a team that lost to Ohio State, or a 12-1 team but hey I am not a computer.

mark , I dont think there is any question that ANY team in the SEC winning the NC would be a positive thing for the conference in general. And that would matter to somebody who was a generic SEC fan and not specifically a UGA fan. In this case, Fl aint playing for the NC, so why ponder that? The question is, do you want them to win the SEC or not. FL winning the SEC is no better than ARK winning, if its purely for the good of the conference. How would Fl SEC be better for UGA, than ARk SEC? If it’s merely the extreme long shot they might eek out some points towards the #2 ranking and actually beat OSU and that would somehow elevate the entire conference, which in turn helps UGA somehow, in whatever way (I cant even think of one), I’d say the possible downside of a very heated rival having that bragging right and recruiting edge woudl far outweigh that.

To me, its like hoping your buddy gets the really pretty girl at the bar, so that you look good by hanging out with the guy who got the pretty girl….

Mark, Arkansas would be a better representative for the SEC since, other than initial loss, they’ve actually played some pretty good football. The Lizards, like the Dawgs before Auburn, just don’t seem to be firing on all cylinders and IMHO would get their asses handed to them by a credible football team.

zoo, I remember arguing that same thing last year. AU was actually as high as #4 just a few weeks into 2004 season, (despite only one quality win and a dreary 2003) but the two teams ahead of them NEVER lost and had a higher ranking the years before and going into that season. I never understood the argument. OH I understand the enourmous accomplishment to go undefeated in the SEC, and would have driven UGA fans crazy as well, but the system is what it is.

One thing for sure is that you can only have one SEC team ever truly contending for the title game. Not like the PAC-10 or Big Ten. Conferences that don;t have a championship game. On another note how many NC’s does JoePA have with his multiple undefeated seasons. Don’t know which system you argue for.

Altadawg, that’s right that quality win thing bite them. I guess all the SEC teams are getting as smart as they can about this. Maybe ARK got a little too smart with the scheduling of USC. That was a make or break game they weren’t ready for.

JustMe, DO NOT insult Nurse Cratchett! She has shown us the righteous path of love, understanding and compassion for our opposition and all the doors that may open through its execise. She inspired us to form the FANS OF CHAN and continues to exhort us towards our lofty goal of having him annointed “Coach for Life” at the Technical Institute on North Avenue. If you continue to insult her we will forget what she has taught us and FIND YOU AND STOMP YOU INTO A GREASY SPOT ON THE PAVEMENT!

Sorry Nurse…I’m trying…

Altamaha, you made my point, thanks. you posted something about the team that owns the title being upset about losing it. Those aren’t your exact words you uesed to close your post but same idea. That is MY reason to want the Reptiles to win. I want the Dawgs to be the team in ‘07 to take it away from them. Make’um look bad. The only recruiting they do in Ga. is cherry pick and they use thety “Party” as an example. This kid that lives down on Sapelo Island or one of those islands off the Ga. coast is a good example. There isn’t A SINGLE DAWG THAT WANTS TO SEE THE REPTILES LOSE EVERY GAME THEY PLAY ANY MORE THAN I DO, BUT, IMO, THIS IS A SPECIAL SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. WHATEVER ANY OTHER DAWG THINKS OR WANT THAT THEIR OPINION, BUT, FOR MY REASON’S I WANT THE REPTILES TO WIN. HATE TO SAY IT BUT I ALSO WANT THE SEC EAST TO BE THE STRONGEST DIVISION.

BuLLDawg, Wisconsin got blown out by more than twice the score in their only loss(to Michigan)? That’s the dumbest spin I’ve ever heard. For those of you who may be fooled by this moron, Wisconsin lost on the road to unquestionably the 2nd best team in the country 24-10(not 56-14 like you would be led to believe), and the game was tied at the end of 3. LSU and maybe Arkansas are the only two teams in the SEC that would have a prayer of being that close in a similar situation. If Wisconsin plays UF, they will win just as they wiped the floor Aubarn last year. I remember watching that UW loss the same day I was watching UGA barely beat Colorado, and I remember telling my wife I’ve never been more proud of my team that lost than my team that won, since UGA looked pathetic and UW played a great, great team right down to the end. Bad schedule, yes, but you can at least say they beat everyone on it not in the top 2 in the country. Go Wake!

I’ll bet you are a much nicer person when your not behide a computer screen. Besides, Ive been told to never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to there level and beat you with experiance. “O” by the way I sure if you look you will find misspellings so, don’t even take that route.

Altamaha Dawg, I appreciate your opinion. You don’t throw insults. As I said to start I knew it would ruffle some feathers.

When you schedule tough opponents, you win some, you lose some…but the experience that comes with playing quality opposition cannot be measured only in terms of won and loss. It’ a barometer of what you are and where you want to go. I have the utmost respect for AR playing USC. It gave them the edge in the West and may give them the courage to outlast FL. Give AR’s coaching staff credit for using the USC beat down on the Razorpigs as a learning tool for improvement…It put them in the Dome Saturday…

We (Dawg fans) definitely do not want Florida to win the SEC. We especially do not want Florida to go the the NC game, because - should they win it and be the simultaneous holders of both the NCAA basketball and football titles - it would be proof that there is no God and CMR would likely commit suicide.

I wrote Glenn Burns, WSB weatherman, a nasty e-mail telling him I didn’t appreciate him using the weather forecast as a forum to cheer for the gators. Here’s what he wrote back: “It’s very difficult to root for a team like Georgia with inferior acedemic credentials, a poor football team where half the athletes never even graduate. Besides, it’s college football and it’s fun. Honestly, who on earth takes it so seriously?” Best Regards, Glenn Burns

Don’t you think it’s time to boycott WSB?

It’s so nice that most Georgia fans are pulling for us to win but too bad it’s only because they hate Florida so much! I know for a fact that Georgia fans are rude! When we played Georgia in the champ game a few years back the fans were so mean and ugly to the Razorback fans and for that I dislike them all

38-28? Did the Gator fans treat ya’ll any better? Sports Illustrated once ranked the most classy fans in college football were the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the loudest the LSU Tigers, the rudest the Florida Gators.Your right about one thing,we pull for anybody against the Gators. Gators play Tech, I pull for Tech.

Amen Mike, couldn’t agree more with your last comment. I was at that (‘02) game and everyone got along for the most part. There were a few isolated Arky fans who were a little sower (sorry, couldn’t pass that up) after drinking too much.

Well Buck, you got your wish. UF wins the SEC and is now in the NC game. The publicity will help them finish strong in recruiting and we’ll surely hear from that obnoxious crowd for at least a month and beyond. Please enlighten me: exactly how is this supposed to help Georgia again?

All I can say is: GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!

This Dawg still wishes the Hogs had won, but while I hate the thought of UF playing for the NC, I agree that it should not have been Michigan. They had their shot at #1, and fell short.

The system still does not make sense, though. How does Florida deserve a title shot more than the other 1-loss team, Louisville, or 12-0 Boise State? We can agree that the SEC is a tougher conference than the Big East, but that’s just an opinion. Others might look at Louisville, West Va., and Rutgers and disagree. The Dawgs certainly didn’t make the case for the SEC in the last Sugar Bowl.

Why have a system where certain D1 teams (WAC, Mountain West, Conf USA, etc) have no shot at the title no matter what they do? You can’t do better than the undefeated season had by Boise St. Under the old system, teams like BYU in ‘84 could have at least a CHANCE at the NC if they ran the table and ended the season as the only undefeated.

Does anyone else think that the game of college football, great as it still is, is nothing compared to what it used to be 20, 30 years ago? It seems to me that a venerable old bowl system that use to inspire healthy debate has been replaced by an incomprehensible computer system that just ends up causing chaos and confusion.
