UGAUGA

UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Return to sender

Mikey Henderson has been picked as one of the semifinalist for the return man of the year award. The award’s namesake is Randy Moss. And in the release that brought the news of Henderson’s inclusion in the award process, it actually stated, “The individual should also represent their team and university with the highest standard of character.”

Henderson fits the bill. Moss? Who are we kidding here?

Here’s a brief history for those who don’t remember Moss’s past:

He accepted a scholarship to Notre Dame in 1995. He was involved in a fight in high school, got charged with two counts of simple battery and lost his scholarship.

But Florida State, who had Mark Richt on staff, gave him another chance. He tested positive for dope and was kicked off the team.

He then wound up in a West Virginia jail for three months for violating his probation. Finally Moss wound up at Marshall, a tiny school, where nobody watched too closely or cared too much about what athletes did.

Moss was busted once again as a pro in Minnesota when he bumped a traffic cop and a small amount of pot was found in the ashtray of his car.

So, knowing all this, should Henderson really accept an award named after Randy Moss? Henderson is a good student, one of the more genuine players on the team, a consummate teammate who was willing to switch from defense to offense, and an all-around well-rounded person. In short, Henderson is too good for this award.

Again Carter, great blog. I know its a bye week, but come on. There has to be something you can talk about that relates to UGA. I don’t know, maybe a recruiting update or something.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here Carter. I sort of cringed when I saw that. Who the hell named an award after that thug anyway??

Is there a Terrell Owens good teammate award in college football??

By Ben

November 15, 2006 04:22 PM | Link to this

Whoever named this award obviously does not follow, nor care about college football.

There are 20 players I can think of off the top of my head with more integrity and better numbers to name this award after.

What a joke. If Mikey wins he should accept the award for acknowledgement of his accomplishments but hold his nose while doing so.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….what, Huh? Who Dat? Who Dare? Hello, is thing on? Does anybody care about this blog? And if you do…..you need to stop right now! Listen up folks!! There are people getting bribed to go away at FSU, old people losing hips at Penn State, Lou Holtz is spanning the globe looking for JD Stokley, Trev Alberts is doing the play by play at Alcorn state and this is what we have in the ATL to blog about? lol….i always get a kick of all you guys that think everything carter writes about is irrelevant…

it’s their bye week fellas… what do you want to read about? maybe an in depth analysis of how stafford feels today? or better yet maybe he could write something about the receivers ability to catch or lack thereof.. give me a break.. there ain’t much news coming out of athens… so if you don’t like the blog don’t freaking read it… OR.. WRITE ABOUT SOMETHING YOU THINK IS RELEVANT!

Is the award shaped like a bong? Do you get a snoop dog cd collection with it? If you wear a red jersey to receive the award do the crips give you protection? Is this award presented on the east coast, west coast or in a neutral place like Kansas? Do you have to diss your teammates and develope an attitude before receive it? Carter there are so many other things you have to question here.

Ya know, I’ve seen Randy Moss in interviews and read others. I dont believe that he is the Thug the media makes him out to be. Dose he speek his mind? Yep. Is he rebelious against authority? Yep. Dose he smoke pot? Apparently. Do I think he would hurt me or be a total jerk to me if I ever ran into him? I dont think so. Sometimes people like to build you up so they can watch you fall. I feel like this is what the media has done to him, just because they can. I’m just basing this on the judge of character sense I get from him. Note: I do not feel this way about most athletes. I think T.O. is a total piece of crap for instance. Its just a hunch I have about moss.

but you defend moss? i think everyone above me has highlighted why his a complete imbecile.. and yet you think he’ll be cool towards you…? what the..

if you are defend randy moss by saying he is a good guy… then how the hell do you know that TO is a jerk? from what i’ve read… he is an extremely personable guy..

November 15, 2006 10:21 PM | Link to this

horrible carter. Naming that award after moss would be like naming a journalist award after carter strickland. well, no, not actually. At least Moss has performed on the field to an unbelievable degree, except for the last 2 years.

Moss may by admission take a few plays off every game but carter seems to take the day off every day. carter, the AJC actually does not ask you to do much but to write. Why is it that you can not actually write more in depth analysis about anything?

It’s weird that you have a guy like carter being given a golden opportunity to post crap on a blawg where he can post anything he wants about the dawgs and be as detailed as he can about it all and day after day he throws up slop up here that looks like he took only 15 minutes at the most to write. way to take advantage of your opportunity there carter.

moss may be a dog at times with his attitude and clearly has wasted great opportunities for more success in life at ND, FSU, and the NFL but Carter you are clearly blowing a golden opportunity everyday that you post something here at the AJC. So, yes you are a bigger dog than Randy Moss.

But at least Moss is an extremely gifted and talented person so he can get away with being a lazy slug, not thug, in life and rely solely on his god given ability. BUT you carter have not been blessed by GOD with similar gifts for writing. SO, you should have to make up for it in other ways. BUT do you do it a la Bobby Hurley, Wayne Chrebet, Brian Finneran, et al., and work your butt off to make up for your lack of God given talent? No! In fact, you seem to prefer to be a lazy slug who pretends he is talented and that you actually have something to say, when you really do not.

If you do not have the god given talent, you should at least love what you do, which for you is writing. BUT you do not seem to love writing at all. THUS, why do you have the responsibility for posting things on this blawg? So mock Randy Moss but at least he has an overabundance of god given talent and at least plays hard some of the time whereas you seems to have no god given gifts and you do NOT work hard at what you do at anytime.

AND yes I did notice your little cheap throwaway shot at CMR with your weak attenuated connection to his tenure at FSU which coincided with Moss being recruited by FSU. Yeah, so what? I do not even like CMR and I certainly do not worship CMR like most of the blind loyalists do. BUT that little shot was so pathetic, I was embarrassed for you. Carter, the little CMR-Moss-FSU insinuation is akin to telling us that Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy and Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln?

Carter: what a fool, what a horrible writer, and what a waste of space in the blawgosphere. there has to be some uga undergrad, probably thousands, willing to get an internship with the AJC who will blawg it up all day on here and get themselves some valuable writing experience and let themselves get groomed to a journalism career. it’s not like there is alot of pressure in posting these things. just give us alot of info & tidbits, be opinionated and fair but tough in your opinions even if that drives the blind loyalists up the wall, and actually seem to love the game, teams, and fans you are serving a la DOB and Seoku, who tell it how it is and somehow manage to be fair to the players, teams, and fans without pandering at all to the players, teams, and fans.

BTW, i know that there is a whole lot more to the randy moss life story than you portrayed above. BUT since when does getting into a school fight and smoking dope in your late teens make you a thug? it makes you about the same as at least 50% of the high schoolers and college students out there. Randy Moss is a SLUG, not a THUG.

the meter maid thing was not cool but i think that thing died down because the meter maid herself was not entirely faultless in the whole thing herself and the version we heard when he was initially in trouble was not what actually went down and thus why things quieted down. BUT we usually hear all the worst things about a player when things first go down but then do not hear much about it later when the full truth is exposed.

the allen iverson situation with his wife was very similar. he is another guy who is unfairly branded with the thug image because of fight he also got into as a teenager just like almost every other teenaged male. albeit, that brawl was very ugly but alot of teenaged fights end up that way. i think AI likes to play up the thug image for street cred and financial purposes but he is not really a THUG either. BUT at least with AI, unlike Moss, you can say that AI has never wasted an ounce of his unbelievable God given talent and that he has left every ounce of his blood, sweat, and tears on the floor during games. i would not want to practice hard either if i played 45 minutes every other night really hard for 6 to 8 months a year myself. especially since he is just about the smallest guy in the nba and gets the absolute snot beaten out of him every game.

FIRE CARTER!!!

I worked out of MSP for 7 years. During that time, I followed the Vikings. Still do. Randy Moss is all about Randy Moss. The cop bumping incident was one of many Moss Moments. He belongs and deserves to stay out on the Left coast. He’s a great whiner and finger pointer and is nothing but poison to a organization. My opinion…

That is pretty bizarre to name an award after Moss.

We could name one after OJ while we’re at it — maybe the O.J. Cut and Slash award to the running back with the most moves. Or how about the Barry Bonds, Gatorade,Is it in You Award, to the top power hitter in each league.

I went bythe dry cleaners to pick up your Tech Sweater. The lady at the cleaners said the moth balls had destroyed the fabric and she could not save it. I guess you need to tie it around your neck so it does not interfere with your pocket protector. Do you still want me to take your daughter to homecoming dance since she could not get a date? I want double time for that one. Not to be rude by she looks like you sir. I will be over Saturday to rake the leaves and give you high 5’s everytime your team scores a touchdown against Duke. Going off-beat a little, I check West Virginai(Rival.com) recruiting from 2003-06 and results: 2- 4 stars, 1- 5 star, rest were 2 and 3`s mostly 2 stars. White and Slanton were 3 stars. The 5 star never heard his name merntion. The defense in Big East is not strong as the SEC, but that offense they run will make you realize some damn good coaching is going on.

DeAngelo McCray (Scout 5, Rivals 4) is another DL is still pretty high on our list. Hopefully we can land Armando Allen and/or Noel Devine (if he straightens up). Otherwise Devine will fit in well at FSU. Auburn will be loaded with RB’s for years to come.

By War Eagle

Gator, I hear Noel Devine can hardly spell his name, JUCO or prep school for sure. The reason I mention this because Auburn had to decide on E. Davis or Devin, they did`nt start on him after seeking his transcript. E.Davis, who could be a great one..pre qualifier, his Dad was All-SEC for gators.Auburn has been very successful with Florida players last 4-5 yeasrs especially around Miami(Dillard HS) and Panhandle.Good luck with Western Carolin, which I think will hurt your computer ratings especially if Southern Cal wins out..
