UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Let the Tech-UGA debate begin

OK, one down and one to go. Without getting profane or insulting, how about thinking of logical, based-in-facts reasons why Georgia can beat Georgia Tech.

I’ll get you started: Confidence. Georgia now has what it has lacked all season. The players actually believe now they can get it done. Two, three weeks ago there is no way Kenneth Harris makes that 40-yard grab from Matthew Stafford. But now that he has there is no way he drops another one.

The offensive line is also feeling good about itself. And when it gives protection it is pretty startling how good Stafford can be.

OK, now let’s flip over to the other side of things: For those Tech fans out there — again, without getting profane or insulting — how about thinking of logical, based-in-facts reasons why Georgia Tech can beat Georgia.

Again, I’ll get you started: Jon Tenuta. This is the kind of game where Tenuta can bring out all kinds of blitzes and confuse the heck out of Stafford. Remember what he did last year, and D.J. Shockley and his offensive line both had experience. Georgia had little or no offense, and managed very few big plays (one just so happened to win the game for them late in the fourth quarter).

But I expect Tenuta to bring all kinds of heat on Stafford, and if the Georgia run game is not healthy (currently it is not) Stafford will be at the mercy of the pass rush.

OK, now it is your turn. Rant on.

Georgia will not have a problem with Tech. Tech seems to actually be hexed against GA (much like GA is against FL). Tech usually seems to beat themselves, regardless of who is fielding the better squad that day. Go Dawgs. My prediction is UGA 51 - Tech 7.

By Tech in TN

November 13, 2006 05:03 PM | Link to this

Didn’t you say you wanted facts. I love Mark Richt predictionof 51-7. He said alot of factual things to come up with that figure. UGA has barely scored that many points the last 3 games total. The offense was given 4 TO by Cox. This isn’t a great defense they played against either. Auburn has given up over 250 yards in 7 of the 10 games going in to UGA. The only games less were Buffalo, AR State and Miss State. 4 times they have given up over 350. GT has a better defense than Auburn. So, you can’t just look at Saturday’s game. You have to look at the whole season. Secondly, everything UGA did good and GT did bad on Saturday will be a long gone in 2 weeks. I think it helps GT that UGA has a week off. Thirdly, as bad as Ball play on Saturday; Cox for Auburn played worse. Ball will not play as bad as Cox and give UGA that many chances.Lastly, GT has more to play for.

dawgfanforlife,

1st point is valid. Reggie is the key. The problem for you guys is that he’s been better this year, your defense has not been as good as past years (with the exception of Battle against AU, stud.) Your 2nd point however is flawed. Tech’s defense is better than Auburn’s. See prior posts regarding Tenuta blitz packages. Stafford has seen nothing like it. Say everything else is equal and it comes down to Reggie vs. Stafford. I take the 4 yr. experienced starter. It may have taken 4 yrs., but he’ll know what down it is. Looking forward to being there to watch a good game. Go Tech!

Seriously, it will be a good game I think. I was just as surprised at Tech only scoring 7 on NC as I was us scoring 37 on AU. Both teams have a bit of Jeckel and Hyde complex, huh? Depends on who shows up. Hopefully both teams do their best and its a classic.

Facts:

Tech cannot consistently get the ball to Johnson. They couldn ot do it against a upper tier Clemsun, and not againstly lowly UNC.

Choice is not a legitimate weapon to carry a team to a victory

UGA defense has played well this season, if you take out all of the tough “sudden change” situations w/in the past 5 games they have more than held there own.

Lumpkin has shown over the past 2 games if you will put the ball in his hands he can make plays.

The offensive line has shown that it wants to run block the past 2 games which is rare.

Staffords scrambling ability when the play breaks down, is maturing as a QB. If he maintains his poise, tucks the ball for 8-10 and gets down he will br superb. If not then chuck it and live to fight another down.

Now you can disect it all you want, put your Tech spin as you may. This is a UGA blog on how UGA beats Tech. I you do not like it take your pocket protectors back to the “dark side” and practice your “Jedi” training. Novmember 25th can’t come soon enough so we can shut these guys up w/a tremendous tailkicking!

Facts: 1. Tenuta QB problem. Last year he faced a Dawg QB that people knew you could rattle. He doesn’t have that situation in ‘06. Just the oppisite, the kid has shown that his mistakes have been from TRYING TO MAKE PLAYS, NOT BECAUSE HE WAS NERVOUS. PRESSURE DOESN’T BOTHER HIM. 2. QB problem again. Like Tubberville said, he’s tall enough that he can see the field and who’s doing what. 3. QB problem again. He didn’t have to sit for years in order to play. Fate stepped in and he got the chance to learn and play through his mistakes, in the toughest places, as a true freshman 4. QB problem again and the most important one of all. MATTHEW STAFFORD IS A LEADER!! READ WHAT HIS TEAM MATES WERE SAYING ABOUT HIM. HE’S BEEN FORGED FROM THE FIRE LIKE THE REST OF HIS TEAM AND THEY WILL FOLLOW HIM. John Tenuta has earned my respect as an outstanding “DC” and I haven’t posted one word that he hasn’t already thought of. Problem for Tenute is, this Dawg team isn’t as deep as ones he’s faced in the past but, this QB has the talent, mental toughness and leadership ability to play to WINnot play NOT TO LOSE!!! hE’LL MAKE MISTAKES BUT GET RIGHT BACK UP AND SAY, LETS GO!!! This team needed a leader and they have it. Dawgs by 15.

Part of Tech’s success this year is based on the fact that when Reggie has been good, he has been very good, gashing offenses with designed runs and hitting CJ and JJ with big plays downfield. Since getting banged up against Maryland, Tashard Choice has stepped up as our main weapon. While UGA will focus first on pressuring Reggie, they still have to keep two guys on Calvin AND try to shut down Tashard. If Reggie has even an ok game by his standards, Tech has more offensive weapons than Georgia has shown they are capable of stopping.

On the other side of the ball, Georgia hasn’t had the kind of ball-control running game this year that they normally enjoy. Without a strong running game, too much hangs on the quarterback’s performance. Tenuta has been a master at forcing teams to become one-dimensional and then blitzing them into turnovers. Stafford is a very talented QB and will have a great career, but I think Tech’s D will give him fits this year.

Having said all that, Georgia is at home and has beaten Tech for five straight years, so they absolutely own the intagibles.

I see Tech winning a close one, 17-10.

I have no doubt that Tenuta will have more than one suprise for Matthew, but Stafford has earned his knowledge the hard way, got his head beat in! All Jacket fans should remember that your team hasn’t faced a QB anything like what AU saw Sat. afternoon. Yes you’ll throw different “Ds” at him, blitz from all angles and who knows what else, but he’s played against some pretty good “DC” this season so while his face was getting beat up, he learned a lot as he got off the ground after his mistakes. He’ll be ready.

UGA wins because the Texas Gunslinger is more of a QB as a freshman than Game Ball is as a Senior. Can’t wait to see what type of bonehead play Game Ball comes up with this year…

Freshman: Chan the Man pulls him out for taking a swing at a UGA coach.

Sophmore: This game brought to you by the number 4. Academics indeed.

Junior: Decides to throw away from CJ in the red zone, picked off by Tim Jennings.

Senior Prediction: I’m guessing something similar to Eric Ainge’s LSU 2005 meltdown.

Georgia: 24 NATS: 10

Enough with all the Tenuta talk. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to come up with a few blitz packages…you Tech grads should certainly understand that. It all comes down to execution. They’ll be no blow out, and all the stats and wins and losses should be thrown out the window. I think it’ll be a tight one like usual, but I still like the Dawgs coming off their first bye week in 11 weeks…ridiculous. Anyways…GA 24 Bees 17

I am very glad UGA beat Auburn. They should have. Auburn is not a great team and has shown that for months. With UGA winning at Auburn, Tech will practice with fear in mind instead of overconfidence. UGA will not allow a beatdown, neither will Tech. All you boys on both sides who are dreaming of such, face reality. UGA has talent, Tech has the experience this year and big play players (Johnson and Choice). The advantage on defense goes to Tech on a slim margin.

BREAKING NEWS:

AP., Atlanta, GA- Just after Mondays practice in preparations for Georgia Tech’s upcoming game vs. Duke, rumors began about wide receiver and star Calvin Johnson “jokingly” begging the NCAA if he could dress in Red and Black on the November 25th showdown against Georgia. Speculation is that Johnson feels he is not getting the ball enough in the current system and he believes he made a mistake signing with Tech. No word yet from the NCAA, but sources are saying that Johnson and his family feel his efforts would have been much more appreciated and utilized at the University of Georgia. With Tech losing 5 in a row against it’s in state rivals, this kind of distraction could be devastating for Georgia Tech’s chances as they visit UGA in Athens.

Both teams have talent on both sides of the ball, and both teams have inconsistent QBs. The biggest difference is, like Carter Pewterschmidt or whatever said, GT has Jon Tenuta coaching the defense. I don’t think UGA has a coordinator as creative as Tenuta, and Tenuta’s defensive play-calling should frustrate Stafford enough to cause a couple of turnovers and give Tech the game. I’m thinking something along the lines of 17-13 Tech. It’s gonna be a close game though, even though Tech’s ranked and UGA’s not.

Let’s not hyperventiliate, because of one win. Georgia has issues: * Stafford still a freshman, one game does not make a QB; *OL, has no depth and is banged up; *D, has been inconsistent. *If, Ball gets Johnson the ball(no pun intended), will create problems-big time.

Off the subject. At one point in my life was a huge GT fan, until the firing of Bud Carson, who was not given a fair chance. Does anyone remember that Curry, fired Spurrier!!!!!!

Lane 4411, I have to take issue with your statement about our QB. One game does in fact make a QB, if it’s the right type of game. All season, Matthew Stafford was pulled around by the nose. he had to learn a TON OF STUFF in a hurry. but after his mistakes he kept getting up, wiping blood off his face and coming back for more. It’s obvious that through it all he never took his eye off the ball and then, on one play it all came together!! I was with a group of Eagles and Dawgs and both sides agreed that when he hit that 53 yd. pass play that everything stopped for one unbelieveable moment. From that point on he was no longer a freshman QB. Little thing, notice we’d had a couple of early movement penaties? After that completion, we didn’t have any. He’ll still make mistakes but they want be freshman misques. Did you read what his team mates said about him after the game? Did you read what the AU coaches said that he could do things they didn’t think he could? We have what gives us a chance to overcome the other problems you mentioned. Tech will do everything possible to stop him and they will but not enough for the bugs to win.

Well Stafford has improved more in 2 months than most QBs improve in a lifetime. I tip my hat to coach MR on a great victory against one of the best defenses in the nation. CMR was not sure about the game plan he had masterminded, but stuck to it and blew Tommy Tubb and the war birds out.

Well that was last weekend, now it is time to refocus our anger and shortfalls on GT.

I think they have a good team. They struggled last weekend against NC which really suprised me. I figured they would knock NC off easy. I am interested to see how they play Duke.

If we play half the D that we played last weekend, double cover CJ, hit Ball like we hit Cox, and give Stafford time to throw the ball we win big.

I dont see a 51-7 victory, mabey more like 45-7. I just hope our team uses this off time to the best. We need to practice hard and keep the Dawgs humble. If we get bigheaded, we dont play well.

  1. The Auburn win. UGA is gellin’ like a felon. UGA beat a Top 5 team and Tech has not even come close.
  2. UGA’s chance to rest up.
  3. The ACC’s down year means Tech’s record is inflated.
  4. Game is in Athens (82K UGA fans, 10K Tech fans).
  5. SEC referees called the Jasper Sanks “fumble”; ACC referees will call this one.
  6. UGA’s recent series lead.
  7. Clempson’s proven strategy: Double team Calvin; pressure Reggie; run the ball.
  8. Except for Calvin, UGA has better athletes at each position.
  9. Coach Richt vs. “Coach” Gailey: Duh.
  10. Lumkin appears to be getting more carries.
  11. Stafford is making better decisions.
  12. Shut down Calvin and Tech loses. Period. Shut down any UGA player and another will take over.
  13. Calvin won’t want to get hurt right before he turns pro so he’ll lay off for this game.
  14. Tenuta is more concerned with lining up his head coaching position than in directing this game.
  15. Sight of attractive women will confuse and distract Techies.
  16. UGA’s offensive line is getting it done.
  17. Good, clean old-fashioned hate.
  18. Corso will predict Tech.
  19. It’s a make or break game for a decent bowl for UGA, and less so for Tech.
  20. Tech: Bunch of pencil neck geeks.

It all comes down to pass rush. The Dawgs have finally established one. You flush Reggie Ball out of the pocket and he will make mistakes. “CJ” will have to really show out for the bees to have a chance. If the bees bring the house over and over we’ll just throw it to Southerland out of the backfield or hit screens to Lumpkin to keep them honest. Stafford also presents the possibility of the run. Ball does also. I expect Tony Taylor to play big and have a big impact on the ballgame. I hope Ball throws down the seams. Our safeties have staying in good position to make plays. Over the top worries me a little. This game is definitely a pick ‘em. The Dawgs will have just enough to get it done when all the smoke clears. We won’t drop a third game in Athens this year. Atmosphere will be electric. GO DAWGS!

Ft. Worth Dawg, great list but you’re wrong on #12. We don’t have anyone to replace the “leader”, Stafford. In this kid Ga. got an equation….. potential + desire= the REAL DEAL!! iN FRONT OF THE WORLD(AS MR SAYS) HE’S GROWN UP AND BECOME A TRUELY GOOD QB AND STILL HAS A TON OF IMPROVEMENT TO GO. hE’LL MAKE A MISTAKE BUT DOES ANYONE THINK IT’LL BOTHER HIM? I SAY TENATU NOW WILL HAVE TO HAVE A SPY ON HIM AND i BELIEVE THAT WE’LL BE READY TO RESPON……….BY THE WAY, ANYONE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH JOE T STARTING FOR THE 1ST PLAY ON SENIOR DAY ?……I DON’T AND i’VE BEEN A STAFFORD MAN ALL THE WAY BUT JOE T HAS BEEN A TRUE DAWG.

You idiot Nation preaching to your idiot choir is damn near repulsive…now it’s back to “reloading”, one week ago, “rebuilding”.

Auburn hasn’t played a decent game since UF and were way OVERRATED.

Arkansas is the best team in the OVERRATED SEC (see USC game at the beginning of the year) by far. They would beat you leg humpers by 40 points easy.

What happen more Saturday was due to the fact that Brandon Cox must have been smoking some of ODELLs crack and completed more passes to Tra Battle than anyone (see crack reference for throwing to completely cover receivers).

Zero pressure on fat Stafford throughout the game, ain’t happening against GT. He’ll get hit with more blitzes that Joe T. will asked Richt to let Cox take the pounding after our LB’s introduce him to what a real defense is, and knock him so bad he’s blowing snott bubbles.

All Reggie will have to due is count to 3 this year to send you fleabags back to your trailer park sometime late 3 quarter.

I just want to say that I think uga fans are uneducated obese rednecks who don’t know how to carry out pi more than 4 decimal points. I mean we own UGA!!! What educated person would ever disagree?! We have had their number for years right?! (51 to 7 and the last 4 years were an aberration.) The true measurement is how far superior GT is in every way. As a Gt grad i enjoy a much higher quality of life than a uga necker. Listen I’m an educated jacket graduate working at my multimillion dollar job, and all of my uga employees whom I pay minimum wage, are lucky to have a job and they know it. I will fire their red butts if they step out of line. I don’t think many of them can even read, but we have to have someone to clean up the D&D after parties we throw around here. (jello shots are stick you know) Anyhow I think this football game coming up will be really neat. I really enjoy when the jackets are winning and playing good football with first downs and such. Its such a great pleasure to have Reggay Balle and Kelvin Johanson playing so well. I will make a prediction that the yellow jackets of Tech will win 193 to 3. So all you uneducated, minimum wage redneck UGA graduates, enjoy your recent victory, because you shall return to your loser ways soon Ramble on, KUDOS! you sir are such a well of football knowledge! It is such pleasure for me to flaunt you and your powers of debate as a GT grad. Your keen insight and witty comments have silenced many pathetic pups my good man. CORRECTIONS TO FT WORTH DAWG’S LIST By Ft Worth Dawg

November 14, 2006 10:28 AM | Link to this

1.The Auburn win. UGA is gellin’ like a felonOdell Thurman?. UGA beat a Top 5 team and Tech has not even come close. ND?, and we beat Auburn at night @ Jordan Hare. 2.UGA’s chance to rest up. And get arrested 3.The ACC’s down year means Tech’s record is inflated. Tech has beaten more than one ranked team this year 4.Game is in Athens (82K UGA fans, 10K Tech fans). 82K of the quietest fans in the South 5.SEC referees called the Jasper Sanks “fumble”; ACC referees will call this one. Even your officials suck 6.UGA’s recent series lead. And less recent National Championship 7.Clempson’s proven strategy: Double team Calvin; pressure Reggie; run the ball. and WE will use Vanderbilt and Kentucky’s strategies 8.Except for Calvin, UGA has better athletes at each position. why doesn’t the recent margin of victory reflect that? Coaching maybe? 9.Coach Richt vs. “Coach” Gailey: Duh.Gailey does more with less, but won’t have less for much longer 10.Lumkin appears to be getting more carries. Good, maybe he can help UGAY rush for more than 34 yds (2004) or 68 (2005) this time 11.Stafford is making better decisions. Only 12 INTs on the year 12.Shut down Calvin and Tech loses. Calvin has as many TDs as Stafford does INTs Period. Shut down any UGA player and another will take over.how, by dropping more passes? 13.Calvin won’t want to get hurt right before he turns pro so he’ll lay off for this game. Calvin is only insured for $3 Million by the NCAA, and that Tech degree insures a life of wealth as well 14.Tenuta is more concerned with lining up his head coaching position than in directing this game.Wishful thinking by UGAYers never hurt anyone 15.Sight of attractive women will confuse and distract Techies.Ever been to Buckhead?????? 16.UGA’s offensive line is getting it done. vs a UGAY grad ONLY (Will Muschump) 17.Good, clean old-fashioned hate. Yeah I’m sure UGAY will hate Shreveport for the Independence Bowl 18.Corso will predict Tech.Good, he has been on in 2006 19.It’s a make or break game for a decent bowl for UGA, and less so for Tech. I once heard a blogger say: “If you back a Dog into a corner, he will $hit on himself 20.Tech: Bunch of pencil neck geeks. That sign your paychecks

I’m sorry but the SEC is the best conference hands down. I’m not one of those who thinks that any team in the SEC could take down any top 5 team though. The SEC is back to the ’90s mode now, which is why UGAY is back in 3rd place in the East.

Dawgxion - ……and if Leak hadn’t have fumbled that ONE time Florida would be undefeated. Fumbles are part of the game. We lost and I accept that. Why can’t you accept the fact that you disgraced the SEC by losing to a Big East team?

Well, the Dawgs are within one win of beating Auburn as many times as Tech has in the last five years. I’m glad that Tra Battle had a good game against Auburn, it’s going to make his embarassing efforts even that more humiliating as CJ’s 6’5” frame catches pass after pass over Battle’s head. And if they throw three on CJ like every other team seems to be, then we’ll just go to that other Johnson. Our Running game is sound enough to chip away the clock when we need to - and let’s not forget that Ball is like having another speed back on the field. Tenuta’s defense is going to eat Stafford’s lunch - just like Miss State, Vandy, and Kentucky did; by bringing the pressure. I’m not too concerned with UGA’s receiving corps. Just ‘cause they managed a few snags last week does not mean they’ve suddenly been reborn. I can’t wait to see the dejected faces of our UGA buddies as they sulk out of Stanford stadium. Jackets roll - 28-0!

logically thinking, i think the game rest on Reggie Ball. END OF STORY! Anyone who has followed this man thru out his career knows he is capable of being one of the best QBs in the nation,…and one of the sorriest. It depends which one shows up. Will the Reggie who played against Miami @ Auburn in 2005 @ VT in ‘06 show up. Or will the Ball who showed up last week show up? Quite frankly, I hope Reggie doesnt go down as the QB who had 4 chances to beat the Rednecks from Athens, but never got the job done. That is pathetic. Plus, If he is healthy, the play calling can be a lot more creative.

My Pick: Tech has one of the best teams it has had for a while. They are looking to redeem themselves and have the man power to do it. Georgia is at home and this year that is a minus. Georgia’s defense can win this game. Reggie does not like pressure. The key to the game is Reggie Ball. Make his life a horror and you win the game. Georgia’s offense just needs to not turn the ball over thankyou, and run the ball as much as possible.

OK tech cant stop the run because of one game lets see if i recall correctly in the last three meeting with over 40 carries UGA has a little over 100 yard in three games. thats stopping the run and why are yall so hung up on 7-0 versus UNC yall lost to vandy at home and kentucky for christ sakes. And like i have said before if we are the lil brother why do we have 4 national championships and yall have 1 someone please answer that for me. One good game doesnt make stafford great i mean mike vick played two great games. with stafford as yalls qb yall with finish second or third on yalls side or the sec every year. Oh yeah and about Choice not being legit he is better than any of the three rbs yall have between the hedges.

I have an idea for tech fans that will lock in a win for them.

If they direct snap the ball to Calvin Johnson, then he throws a fade pass to himself. At least then he has some idea of where the ball is going, unlike when Reggie is throwing.

We all saw what happens to tech when the ball stays out of Calvin’s hands. He was 3 catches for 13 yards?

My prediction? If 21 sees the ball 10 or more times, UGA is in trouble. Otherwise, Reggie might as well put on a red jersey, heck, he’s been helping UGA for years.

The last time Georgia played Tech following a bye week Dawgs won 51-7.

Facts, Georgia will get two weeks to mend the injuries and 1.5 weeks to study Tech films. The real question in this game is which Georgia team shows up? If the UGA team that just beat Auburn shows up, I think they put a spanking on Tech. If the UGA team shows up lethargic like they did in the Colorado game, we’ll be in for a long afternoon.

To all of you Techies hanging your hat on your D-Fense….Just remember that AUBURN had a TOP FIVE D in EVERY Category, 3 points to LSU 9 to FLA’s Offense and so on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUBURN Blitzes just like TECH will and they will get burnned by deep passes, QB Draws and Spread Option……

If it were at Tech it would be a little tougher but I say UGA 30 GT 20

Do you idiot techmites want to bet that you won’t be seeing Tech in that category by the end of the season? You are STILL Tech. That is your place in the football universe. In a GOOD year. “Others recieving votes” is like the holy grail to you losers. Normally you don’t even climb that high.

Solid statement from Mikegadawg…oh yeal, UGA has a really solid schedule this year, oh I am sorry, I meant to say a CandyASS UGA schedule. Finally loaded OSU in 2007, and by the way we did open with Notre Dame (top-ten BCS) as opposed to Western KY.

Oh yes, one other thing, we have 4 National Titles compared to your 1 little 17-10 title in 1980 against, yes Notre Dame, who by the way has 14.

By the way inbreed, where is UGA ranked this year?

First of all, as a 2006 grad of UGA, I’m wondering where all the inbred rednecks were when I attended the school. About 75% of the student Body is from Suburban Atlanta. Sure there are students from small towns, but Tech has these students also. They just are not as numerous at a school with 11,000 students. Second of all, both schools are hard to get into because of the Hope. I assure you the student body of both institutions are not retards. Third, everyone should stop arguing about how either school is better than the other academically. Some people are not cut out for (or don’t want to be) engineering majors, just like some people could not be Journalism, Business, or Law students. Both schools graduate competent, well educated individuals. Our great state is lucky to have two excellent schools. That is all I’m going to say about the schools, because this is a sports blog. I have been spoiled by my time at UGA, with two SEC Championships and zero losses to Tech. All I have to say to my fellow Dawg fans is, if Tech and Reggie “nice call” Ball actually pulls out a win against us, keep it in perspective. For us, it would be a sad ending to a down year, but the future of our football team is very bright. For Tech, this is do or die time. They have nothing to look forward to football wise, so while a loss to Tech is always depressing, it will probably be another five years before they have the talent to beat us again. Anyone who thinks the pressure is on UGA in this game is insane. Gailey goes from ACC coach of the year candidate to right back on the hot seat if he loses to CMR again.

You poor gnats. The ACC has set you up for failure. Not only are you barely successful enough to play for the ACCC, but now you finish your season against the Dawgs. Lose, you bet you will and it will be a shelling bad enough to eliminate you from the polls. Wow - imagine playing for the ACCCG as an unranked team. Unfortunately, the ACC is built around two formerly top-10 teams, so when they are down, it really hurts the conference as a whole. It hurts, I know, hanging all your confidence on a poor performer in Reggie. CJ is all you got, but even you guys can’t get it together against UNC??? Inconsistency has been the word of the year for you, bumblebees, and you’ll be inundated with 93K+ on Saturday that you can’t handle. Live with the streak and accept that you will play MD as unranked.

UGA beats out Auburn on the road to win a rivalry game against the #5 NCAA team? Pretty impressive—and a reason for GT to worry. I was a bit rattled when to see that score. If UGA can pull a win like that out from [their] behind, they might get geared up and do the same to GT.

All the talk of how UGA has had many better seasons and how the SEC is better than the ACC are moot. (Side note on that argument: both the SEC and the ACC have five teams each in the top 25—of which UGA is not one. True, the SEC teams have a higher average rating, but you’d expect that for a division renowned for being “true football.”) Ultimately, the only two records that matter for this game are: 1) the records for this season (in GTs favor), 2) the record of this series (in UGAs favor).

Growth for Matthew Stafford has definitely occurred. From squeaking by against Colorado and Ole Miss and losing to Vandy at homecoming to the impressive defeat of Auburn, Stafford has definitely developed. But he still has a lot to learn.

Reggie Ball is suffering injuries but has a lot to fight for. He’s in his senior year winless against UGA. It may have taken him a long time to gain awareness and to learn to count, but he’s done it, and if he’s well enough to scramble, you’ll see a different QB than in years past.

Both teams come out of a streak of disappointing games. UGA has beat out Auburn, true, but the last seven or so games have been a let-down. (With possibly the exception of UF. That was probably expected.) On the other side, GT has not quite outperformed teams the way they’ve been expected to. But they’ve found reason to pull off the wins looking forward to this game, the ACC championship, and their bowl trip.

The home advantage goes to UGA, undoubtedly. And it will be a larger than Tech’s [alleged] advantage last year. The refs will, however, be ACC, but God only knows whose favor that will play in, if anyone’s.

It’ll be a close game, undoubtedly, but I’ve got to go with my bias and call it in GT’s favor. 17-14.
