UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Auburn or Tech a tougher game?

Let’s get a little crazy and say Georgia is going to win one of the last two games.

OK, that’s a lot crazy. But what the heck, it’s been 10 straight games and everyone is a little punch drunk.

So, in which of these two games -– at Auburn and vs. Georgia Tech -– does Georgia have the best chance?

The immediate thought is Georgia Tech because it is in Athens and Tech has one more loss than Auburn. But this Auburn series is a tough one to figure out. The home team never seems to have a huge advantage, and the best team doesn’t always win.

The real questions are, which one is more important to you guys? Which one is more important when it comes to the bowl selection? And in which one does Georgia have the best shot?

The answer is neither. UGA got lucky to beat Colorado and Ole Miss. They did lose to the might “V” of Vanderbilt. And just in case you weren’t convinced, they lubed it up with some KY and lost to the Wildcats. It doesn’t matter which team (GT or Auburn) is tougher, because the Pups just aren’t up to the challenge for either.

Two losses are two losses. Forget about it. Wait for next year. But make that wait for a few years down the road if they recruit well and Richt regains his passion for the Dogs and coaching and for winning.

A better blog would be to ask what (or who) is it going to take to get CMR to realize that a coaching change is in order if he wants to return to national prominence.

I have thought for weeks that the Tech game seems like a game that will mean more to UGA than it will to tech. I dont doubt that Tech will want to take advantage of thier instate rival being down once in a while, but havent already accomplished its goal of actually winning a division, it would certainly be a chance for a letdown. It looks to me that UGA usually has a tougher time with Tech than it should because its SEC situation was already decided. Same for them this year. UGA however would look at Tech as its only shot at any goal and of cource bowl implication are huge. Game means more to UGA than it does to Tech this year. Might matter, might not. Oh yea, week off finally.

Deja vu—haven’t we discussed this already ad nauseam?! Come on Carter, you can do better than this.

Let’s see what else could we talk about—hmmmm….how about recruiting and whether or not the recruits are losing interest in UGA. We would need you to supply us with some research to do that….so, on second thought, I care most about us beating Tech. Oh yeah, and getting a new beat reporter.

The question should be which these impending losses will hurt the most, physically and emotionally?

Emotionally the GT lose will devastate the fleabags because, that’s the one thing in life the mutts feel superior about. (ignorance is bliss)

Physically it’s a toss up. Both defenses will destroy poor Ol Stafford, probably Joe T and Cox as well. So it comes down to UGA’s defense and how many bruises they have when it’s all said and done.

6-6 gets you to a bowl, that’s just sad especially considering who the wins have been against.

I am the purveyor of truth.

And did you know that Donald Rumsfeld resigned so now you don’t have to write a column this week on why he should go? Just to save you the trouble.

After getting beat by Vandy AND KY it doesn’t really matter anymore. It would be labeled as a crap season anyway. But hey we did learn a lot this year which is what we were counting on if we didn’t beat anybody. Might as well hand the games to these guys because it will help them finish the drill. Then maybe ouor guys will finally learn what that little phrase means. Talent we have out the wazoo. Why we can’t get it on the field is another thing.

They’ll win neither. This year is O-V-E-R!! Let all the young players play. What the hell. Poor Matt Stafford will be running for his life on Saturday. I feel for him. The sooner the year ends, the better. Next season will be telling. I, and most long time fans I know, have lost all confidence in the coaching staff and players. From what I hear, the team is far more divided over the QB fiasco than we’ve been led to believe. Many are referring to the Joe T. experiment as “Daddy Ball.” Not good. Let’s hope all connected with the program take a deep breath and do some intense soul searching as to what needs to be done to corrrect the situation. And, please no loser bowl for this team. Just call it a year.

By Reality Dawg

The only thing that will give this Dawg team a chance against either one, is the defense developing a “bad case of the wants”. Insperational “on the field” leadership must surface from somewhere and get someone besides Tony Taylor producing. If the defense continues to rely on it’s natural ability, you can forget either game. I’m afraid a “bad case of the wants” will not save the offense with our inexperience at QB, receiver problems, and below average talent, with no depth, on the offensive line.

Bowl game??? Who in their right mind would want this UGA team to go bowling this year? Are they masochistic? Please, let’s not hear any more talk of that. UGA needs to tuck his tail after the Tech game and head to the doghouse. No, they are not going to win their final two games.

Auburn is tougher.

Bigger question: What’s going to happen in the SEC. Florida is a lock for the East. Will Arkansas or Auburn end up representing the West. I think Auburn beats Florida in a rematch but Gators take the Hawgs if that’s how it plays out.

I can’t believe Louisville lost. Rumor is that Rutger’s coach will be coaching Miami soon.

This is a joke, right? Which game will be tougher, Auburn - the better team and on the road, or GA Tech - the lesser team at home? The SEC team or the ACC team? The complete team or the one-man offense with a quarterback who is scared of the Dawgs?

I come from a family of Auburn graduates. I attended Auburn as an undergraduate, and I have a graduate degree from UGA. I have been going to Auburn/UGA games since the 1950’s, including the great Tarkington win of ‘59. Sometimes I pull for Auburn and sometimes for Georgia. You never know how this one with turn out. I have seen the favored team lose more than once. Georgia has some talent, and could surprise Auburn, but not this year. It should be closer than predicted, though.

There goes Carter writing another dumb blog. Any time you are on the road it is going to be a tougher game.

How about some mention on the Basketball team? The season starts tonight and we have added depth. Mike Mercer has overhauled his shooting form and could emerge as a star this year as a sophmore.

Cuz, did you read my blog? Altahama says it’s no big deal, looking at both games that is. Conyers, being on the road against AU hasn’t always been tougher either way.(see ‘05 season)Let’s give Carter credit for one thing. like his buddy Josh Kendall from the Macon Telegraph, he got his daily hit on Stafford woven into his blog. I think we’re capable of winning both games but we’re at a hugh disadvantage with game day coaching! Speaking of coaching, anybody remember Reggie Brown? He was 1st string but never really reached stardom status. Supprise, supprise, he just signed a new contract with the Eagles worth 17 or 27 mil. starting in ‘08 when his current contract runs out. Wonder why he never reached his potential at Ga….Carter, there’s a blog for you.

November 10, 2006 10:16 PM | Link to this Can the Dawgs Win? If and I mean If we could get some blocking(which has been MIA for a long time!) out of our offensive line…. and get the running game going (which used to be the Dawgs’ forte) and let Stafford have time to read the defense and have time to go to his 2nd & 3rd receivers there could be a chance. What happened to our run blocking lately? Think back the last 10 years. Remember all the run production that we had. Remember all the Great Scat Backs. Remember them breaking though the line and making 30-50-75 yards. What happened to all that? I think it is the O Line. Nowadays, most of the time we get 2-3 yards on 1 st down. Then CMR starts the passing routine thus the high interceptions from our True Freshman under pressure. We have to RUN the DAMN ball to win! Is the O Line man enough to move people off the line? Huh? They ain’t that heavy. Look at what Rutgers did. They ain’t that Big. Are we as good as Rutgers? Can we run block anymore? I don’t want to hear Larry Munson say “NO BLOCKING” tomorrow or “DROPPED”. I hate to hear him say these 3 words. We lose every time! We will see tomorrow at 12:30P. GO DAWGS! DAMMIT!

Buck I haven’t given up on our dawgs. I might be one of the few who believe we will win this game by 10 tommorow. If we take care of the ball and the secondary doesn’t play like the first year starters they are except Tra Battle then we are more then capable.

The key to our defensive laps this year can be traced to that sencondary and the bulldawg nation and Bill King can’t get that.

BTW, the Balldawgs get a huge win tonight and no one has said a word about them landing the number 21 rated recruiting class according to Rivals. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=605181

We also landed a PG for 2008 out of Georgia that will be stud for us.

Our Basketball future is in good hands with Felton at the helm!

Buck , you do provide me with many snickers freind. Obviously my point was that it didnt matter what Bill says, the UGA football program would do what they are supposed to despite that. But yes, I also thing it doesnt matter what we focus on either for the sme reason.

I just have no earthy idea what games you folks, or rather what season you folks have been watching that leads you to beleive that UGA has the oline to simple line it up and run it despite every team we face shifting thier defence to prevent just that.

Why will not one of the many folks in here screaming how CMR abandoned the run take me up on my offer to examine the ACTUAL fact and prove that to me? It aint that difficult to go game by game, series by series, play by play and determine where exactly somebody thought the run was abandoned. everyone complains about “playcalling” but nobody seems to realize we dont exactly do whatever we want to. Much easier to just toss out blanket statements or better yet, just repeat the somebodies post from last week.

Conyers, I for sure haven’t given up om the Dawgs today. If we’re prepared to take advantage of any breaks that come our way, we’ll win. Have you noticed that latele we gotten points when we get a break?,,,,,,,,,,Altahama, glad I can give you a few chuckles and if you’ve noticted, not one time have I disagreed with your break down of the running game. I’ve not had any reason to say anything because you’ve pretty well covered the situation. In order to win today, the pass will set up the run . That’s what MR was saying last week as to why we had to throw the ball. They shut the run down. Now, my Boy, Stafford must take care of the ball and not give it away. Notice the special helmet he’s got to wear today because of the beating he took last week? Is that kid tough or what and I’m going out on my favorite limb and say he’ll thro 2-3 TD passes to day. JMar and techsux, Get a grip on reality guys! This year Georgia is the second rate program. You lost to power houses Vandy and KY and struggled with every other team in division 1A this year. Without division1AA opponent Western KY you would not even be Bowl eligible. The sad thing is you have as much talent as any program in the country. How the hell do you go 6-4? Tech has not had a top 35 recruiting class in 8 years. The good news for us is we have coached up what little talent we have. What has UGA done with all of that talent they have? Nothing! Tech will dominate the most poorly coached defense in the country on 11/25. I would say your defense is talent less, but you have more talent on D than Tech, Vandy, or KY has on their entire roster. The good news for everyone UGA plays next year is that Mark Richt sees nothing wrong with his coaching staff. He is a great X’s and O’s coach but he is too soft to lead and make changes when things need to be changed. Congrats on your worst season since the Ray Goff era! We at Tech are going to enjoy our best season and recruiting class in 8 years! You guys stay arrogant and ignorant. It suits you well.

How a lot crazy is it now, stricky?

I feel sorry for those who feel thier week isn’t going to be complete without saying how CMR loves to abandon the running game. (Buck, not one single person took me up on the invite to break down the KY game series by series to show me the “truth”) How odd, the running game came alive and was stuck to on a day when the (accurate) passing game actually softened up the D, got to be just pure coincidence.
