UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Choosing SEC superlatives

Well, it’s late in the basketball season and it’s pretty clear that Georgia is not going to place any players on the All-SEC team and maybe none on the second- or third-teams. But it looks like it’s going to be quite a race for Player of the Year in the league.

Tennessee’s Chris Lofton is obviously a great candidate and I think it will be between him and Alabama’s Ronald Steele, LSU’s Glen “Big Baby’ Davis and possibly LSU’s Darrel Mitchell. As we head down the stretch toward the SEC tournament, who do you think should be Player of the Year? And is there anybody on Georgia’s team worthy even of honorable mention or second- or third-team All-SEC mention?

I think it has to be Lofton . He is capable of taking over a game and running away with it . Tenn is nowhere near the same team without him. For the dogs, I would like to see s. gaines get some recognition, but honestly, unless something happens, they will likely be shut out. I’m not sure this would bother Felton, as he is trying real hard to push the total team concept over individual accomplishments.

I nominate Coach Felton for first team “All Porno Mustache”

Ronnie Brewer should be player of the year. He leads the conference in scoring and over the last 3 games has done a little bit of everything to lead the hogs to the NCAA

Steele…he averages over 40 minutes a game in conference play. His back injury in the beginning of the year finally healed about the time SEC games started. No player is more valuable to his team.

No doubt - It’s Glen Davis. He has absolutely put LSU on his back the last few weeks. Check the scoring and rebounding numbers lately. He has been a monster.

We’ve already conceded that a UGA player isn’t going to be the POY in the SEC, and I don’t think one will make 2nd team either. UGA hasn’t had a standout player this season. Each player has contibuted in his own way which at some times has been huge, but the lack of consistent play will hinder UGA players from making all-sec teams. However, that being said, I think it’s actually better for the team in the long run not to have one individual stand out on a team that’s not very good. They learn how to depend on each other and play team basketball rather than throw to player X and watch him shoot or dunk.

Bryan,I thought it was pretty evident that I loved it from the fact that I said I was laughing so hard. Just in case it wasn’t (now you have me laughing all over again)yes, I loved it.

I think that if you are giving the award based on how valuable they are to their team,Ronnie Brewer is your man. Arkansas would not even be sniffing the NCAA tourney without him. I have always been impressed with that guy. I think he will be a big time player in the NBA. I think that Mercer and Humphrey have been big for the Dawgs this year. I am disappointed in how they have conducted themselves off the court though. All I want to know is who scheduled a Thursday-Saturday game week. I don’t think it was too smart to play South Carolina at home only to travel to Miss. State 2 days later. I would be very happy to make it to the NIT. I don’t think it would be a long stay though. We’re too young and thin at the post. GO DAWGS!

Evidently, the best players on the UGA campus this winter are named Blue, Shockley, and Minter. At least, thats all we’ve heard about over the past two weeks.

Oh yea, and some guy named Stegman or Steelman?????

I assume you are forgetting UGA is 4-3 against UF in last 2 years, including sweeping the gators in gainsville? How convenient.

There are low lifes, then there are dirt baggers, then scum, and slime, and then you finally get down to gators’ fans. Looks like this blog has hit rock bottom. You can close it out now.
