UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Class offers boost to lines
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia had more hits than misses on signing day and by the end of it will have a top-five ranked recruiting class.
Coach Mark Richt said the class, rating aside, was about filling needs across the board. Georgia got players at just about every position it needed them. The Bulldogs could have used another wide receiver and maybe another running back. They also maybe could have used one less fullback.
But across both lines they grabbed players that should help in consistency. On defense, the linemen recruited are more athletic and could be built into different positions. The offensive line got some much-needed depth with the signing of seven players.
Richt said maybe some of those guys might be ready to contribute in two years.
“We ought to be special three and four and five years down the road because of this class right here,” Richt said.

That last comment of Richts cements what many of us feel about getting Stafford and believing a National Championship is on the Horizon!
Great job by coach and staff targeting needs and addressing them.

Has anyone heard anything about Clifton Geathers?

Looks like the coach deserved the raise after all. Nice work Coach, you and your staff have a lot to be proud of with this class. Now if they can just behave, make the grades, and live up to their potential.

I cant believe people think Richt is bad for the dogs. He has just put together his best recruiting class yet. Give a coach a few years and he will make the team exactly how he wants it like Richt is doing. We know he can win, and with a class like this, he will certainly win again.

What happened to the other posts. Therewere close to a hundred other posts and the AJC deleted them. Why would they do this?
Ellijay, the news is, Geathers seems to be having a tough time with it and will not sign with anyone today.
My original post:
Glory, glory to ole Georgia. Awesome job by the coaching staff to produce the deepest recruiting class in UGA history. My hat is off to them and a big thank you very much also
It would be the greatest recruiting class for us period if, it wasn’t for the fact that the 1980 class gave us #34. Not only did we get incredible talent and speed at skill positions but over 25% of the class is OL.
The OL is not so glamorous and does not do a lot to raise the ranking of a recruiting class but it was the main area that needed to be addressed by the coaches and they did just that. Two thumbs up guys.
It is going to be interesting to watch which Frosh earn playing time this fall. There are players in this class that Dogs’ fans will be talkng about for many years to come but the class of the class and possible starters as freshman are Stafford, Dewberry,Asher, and Jones. One thing is for sure; this coming season we’ll have one of the youngest starting teams in our history.
Damn,how ‘bout them silver britches?

Conyers, thanks for the nod. It does bug me to hear categoric slams at the staff. Football coaching is the only job where every single person in town knows how to do your job better than you do.

geko is a lizard guys, ignore it. Jealous. They know they have a class that will be standing on the sidelines chewing on mouth pieces and drinking gator juice for 3-4 years with nothing but a t-shirt to show for it.

This is not the deepest or best class that Richt has signed. Look it up. I seem to recall UGAYers claiming multiple times that Georgia has the #1 class nationally back in the Goof and Donnan days. Didn’t matter then and it won’t matter this time. The difference is Florida actually had a better class this time. We beat you then with less talent and we will certainly continue to dominate UGAY in the future with now superior talent.

gator, I really wish you would pay attention to others’ comments before showing your ignorance. Better yet, keep doing what your doing. The “best class” comment had to do with the best and deepest class that RICHT had signed, not that UGA had ever signed. If I were a Gator fan, I’d hate to have you on my side.

Ok, first, very good class, but, my question is, who is on the bubble to not qualify, I hear the offensive lineman Anderson will almost defiantly not qualify, who else is dicey?

Lumpkin next year plus or minus 1,200 yards?
By godawg

Minus only because MR will keep rotating TBs.

I think with Lumpkin 100% next year, MR will ride him like a pony particuarly with inexpierence at quarterback - I think TB becomes a third down back, occasionally used in the slot as well and more prominent in the return games. I think Moreno redshirts and Ware sees the field rarely. I like Lumpkins chances to have a breakout year and run for over 1,200.

I agree that Lumpkin is #1, Brown a #2 with lots of playing time, Ware is #3, and Moreno red-shirts. Lumpkin & Brown should have 1500-2000 yards between the two is my prediction.

Gator, do you have a Florida Cracker beach mullet with a trash ‘stache or are you from recently arrived Jersey Gelhead stock with sweet sideburns? Just curious which of the two separate but equal sides of the Gaytor rube continuum you belong to.

gaytor the dog cather,
I have been away a while, were did you come from? I never thought i would read more idiotic comments than our Tech friends put on this blog, but i do believe you are a bigger idiot than they are! So when will the NCAA sanctions come down for all the gaytor recruiting violations? Just remember one thing-RAY GOFF USED TO RECRUIT LIKE URBAN, AND GET ALL THE TOP-NOTCH ATHELETS,BUT HE DIDNT KNOW HOW TO COACH THEM.I hope Urban does a better job of coaching in 2006, than he did in 2005-aka: SOUTH CAROLINA,ALABAMA GAMES.

Gay-turd is just mad because the Miami Herald today rated the top 25 football players nationally and Stafford came out on top of Teblow. When he’d not infesting our blog, he’s out staking down the corners of the blue tarp that keeps water out of his single-wide. That said, if he had the attention span sufficient to read top to bottom, remember what he read, and then type, the mullet-head may have something to say. But then again …

“This is not the deepest or best class that Richt has signed. Look it up.”
gator, are you some sort of UGA historian now? Dude, you truly are obsessed with us aren’t you? Where would you suggest that someone look up all the stats on all the recruiting classes UGA has ever had? You have obviously researched all of UGA’s past recruiting classes to come up with your latest batch of BS.
Yes gator this is UGA’s deepest recruiting class ever. If you disagree, show me dipstick. Don’t tell me to look it up. We both know, you never did. It is very close to being the best recruiting class ever at UGA period. It is just a few ticks behind 1980 as far as best and it is second only because that class featured that kid from Wrightsville.

Congrats on a great recruiting class ‘Dawg nation. Put it on the “Urban Cryboys” this year and take that SEC title back to Athens once again. A good season for the Gators would be, oh, the Music City Bowl maybe.
