What to do if your fellow passenger is watching “Debbie Does Dallas” and it’s not a new video from the local chamber of commerce?
American Airlines is fielding concerns from The Association of Professional Flight Attendants and passengers that the airlines’ program offering paid, in-flight Wi-Fi internet access on some of its flights could open a Pandora’s box of porn.
Even with those concerns, however, it’s unlikely airlines will pull the plug on this paid service. It’s considered an additional perk for its passengers, particularly business travelers.
Does the burden fall on flights crews to monitor? Afterall, passengers can bring magazines and DVDs onboard. It seems like a lot of work for flight crews to take care of passengers’ needs and police offending internet users.
What do you think? Should controls be put in place to make sure your seat mate isn’t watching porn? Would you simply move to another seat, if possible?

If someone wanted to watch porn on a plane now, they could do so with a laptop, ipod or portable dvd player by loading the skinflick of their choice. Just lsat week I was on my way back from Syracuse and the guy next to me was watching a dvd on his laptop and there were naked breasts everywhere. Personally, I’d much rather have a quiet porno-watcher next to me on the plane than someone who snores like a hibernating bear.

Thanks Kimberly. She is right. You can watch it now if you want but lets face it, porn is more of a private thing, dont cha think? Much ado about nothing but it gives the crazies something to talk about I guess.

I watch movies on planes all the time. However, I am very selective. In many states it is illegal to view sexually explicit material where a minor may be exposed. I do not want to be arrested and escorted out of the airport. Of course, you can’t protect against the occasional religoNazi that gets offended by anything less than a burka.

I’ve sat next to a passenger who first watched a street car race DVD then, a soft core porn DVD - no headphones! Laptop, portable DVD player, Ipod, internet? What does it matter? If they are not embarrassed, I guess I shouldn’t be either. I might get worried if they get up and spend too long in the bathroom.

People should be worrying about who is going to be President and less about porn on a plane. Get a clue. This is about stupidity and the religious right. And before you get your finely creased sear sucker in a wad, I am deeply convicted in my beliefs. I just don’t think this is something to be “worried” about. People will do what they chose. Its a FREE country, well until Obama wins.. then its a over taxed country.

If someone has the gall to sit between two people on a plane or bus watch a porn film, then they’ve got serious issues. What do you do when they “rise” to the occasion? And don’t tell me you’d pretend like that’s not happening within an elbows reach. Do you act like you’re asleep, pretend to read your book, what do you do?

Brian: Please do your research. Obama’s tax plan will raise taxes on families making $250k or more per year. 95% of American families will actually see a decrease in their taxes. If you are like me and make no where near $250k a year, why would you note vote in your own interests. McCain wants to continue the tax cuts Bush gave to the wealthiest 1% of this country and to corporations. This is one of the main drivers in the financial mess we are facing now: deregulation; excess for the rich and corporations; and a lack of education on real issues on many American’s part. Please get informed and stopping listening and pandering to wedge issues. This country is in trouble and we need CHANGE. “Porn on Planes?” who cares? I’d like a lower interest rate on my home mortgage and a raise on my job. Gee Whiz!!!

I am by no means a supporter of religifacists but I would have to assume the same laws would/should apply as for any public accomodation - what would happen if someone started watching it on their laptop at starbucks or mcdonalds or even in the gate area of an airport? the only difference is density…
now that said, in practice a person would have to be a 1st rate idiot to actually watch one on a flight in the era of the “no-fly” list where people just mysterious appear for no reason w/no explanation or recourse (oh, wait, that’s right: you can mail a form to the TSA - has there ever been a confirmed case of an innocent person being removed from “the list”?). watching that kind of video on a flight seems like begging to never be allowed on a airplane again since the flight crew probably woudn’t even have to make up a lie about “suspicious behavior” - they’d most likely happily blacklist someone for this…
