Too many unattractive northern transplants come here, with their nasty attitudes and such…..makes this place ‘unattractive’. It seems like almost every woman here in the ATL has a chip on their shoulder. They give you that “what do you want”-type attitude. It is especially prevalent among the African-American women here.

The reason Atlantans received such low ratings is because there are very few Atlantans left in Atlanta. Most people who live here are transplants from somewhere else, mostly from up North. Dare I say YANKEES!

The reason most Atlantans are not considered attractive may be because it is hard to find a true Atlantan there are so few of us left in Atlanta. For forty years we have been inundated with persons known as transplants. There are only about 5% of born Atlantans left in the population. Most of the transplants are from “up North”, or dare I say it, “Yankees”!

Travel + Leisure readers say Atlantans are not so attractive: Now that is not hard to figure out since most Atlantans are racist. They are Anti-everything except black. It will never change!! Only transplants who seem to agree with them on the surface will survive only for short periods. Look at the discrimination lawsuits won in Atlanta showing blacks targeting whites that has cost the tax payers millions. I would never go to Atlanta. They should move the capitol to Macon.

Not only are Atlantans unattractive, they’re not to bright either…where else but the south would you find idiots running to buy gas when there really wasn’t a shortage, thereby driving the price up. Well, they’re not talking about Atlantans. They’re talking about Northerners who move here. But, when they visit — that’s what they see — and that’s who they associate w/ the term ‘Atlantans.’

1) Northerners are not attractive. Period. There are many here — We know they are nasty inside — but their attitudes often show on the outside. So, when these surveyors come…they see them and run!

Most Northerners (due to their heritage) are NOT blonde, which makes us have a much lower blond percentage than the other cities that ranked higher (Nashville, Miami, Orlando). True blond Atlantans are gorgeous. But is a surveyor going to come and run into one of those…or a black-haired Northerner telling him/her to get out of the way? Miami’s dark hair claims exotic backgrounds.

2) Many Atlantans (native, nonnative) are fat — but this is a suburban thing. If the surveyors came to the suburbs, fat is one of the contributing factors here.

So that’s it — the surveyors came to the city and ran into Yankees w/ attitudes, and blonds that were only fake — or went to the burbs and saw a bunch of fat people.

I have to agree w/ the article.

Somebody should do a piece, though, on true southerners — and then Atlanta would go to the top!

I moved here from the Phoenix area about a year and a half ago and I can definitly vouch for the attractiveness there…Southern California is the only place I’ve been with more beautiful women.

I moved to the Washington DC area 2 years ago from ATL and I must say there is a huge difference in women between the two cities. The women here are frigid, overweight and have facial hair. The men here are more like women. I told my G/F ( also from ATL ) that i could kick every guys A$$ all at one time at a Capitol Hill bar the other night. This explains the touchy-feely policies of the past 10 years or so. The “men” in the survey must be mostly form the North/Eastern seaboard where bearded /hairy women are found so desireable. Me, I love GRITS.

Attitude has a lot to do with how attractive a person appears. Reading the comments on various ajc blogs, it’s easy to understand why some may place Atlantans (whether by birth or migration) in the not attractive category. Unfortunately, this city has NEVER been too busy to hate.

And what’s up with the ‘yankee’-bashing? I’m a native Atlantan and I have no problems with people from the north. How do they look different from us? What part of the north are you referring to? It’s my guess that some of the previous comments are masking a thinly veiled prejudice towards people of ‘other than Anglo’ descent. Too bad. This is just the sort of thing that makes residents of the south look ignorant.

I feel so out of place sometimes in my own home town.

Seriously! It seems the ridiculous article got it right. But they were targeting Atlantans’ attitudes, not their appearance. I’ve never heard such ugliness coming from so many people trying to prove themselves attractive. Besides, anyone with 1/2 a brain knows that attractiveness has more to do with attitude and the WHOLE person. Not just an appearance. Atlantans are fantastic, no matter what their coloring, size or birth city! Peace, my friends!!

I have to take offense to the statements about northern transplants making this place unattractive. That sounds like a sad excuse to me because I see many people who are overweight, too tan, or just overall ugly (many times resembling a pigface) who speak with a southern accent. But I am not going to say that all southerners are ugly because that would be just as ignorant as saying that northerners dilute the attractiveness of Atlanta’s gene pool.

And blondes, believe it or not, do exist up north. As a matter of fact, we have a ton of attractive, big-breasted blondes up in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

In closing, if the area is unattractive, it probably has something to do with the fact that this lame city has few parks, ridiculous traffic, and a terrible me too attitude. Perhaps many would be more attractive if less people were trying to live their lives in the image of GQ or Cosmo (which they FAIL at and look really stupid) and wearing the styles of 5 years ago.

Well what do you expect? Atlanta (the city of Atlanta) is just full of violent thugs. I see beautiful people all over the place in the nice, white areas. Can we just say the south has no culture other then the Hip-Hop culture. Atlanta is made up of what 85% African Americans and rising. How can there be pretty people when 80% of them are on welfare taking all the tax payers money and dirtying up the city. For those of you that can afford to get out of the city should go to a Northern city and see the difference in people and how accepting they are of others. I’ve found that Atlanta doesn’t necessarily have a lot of “attractive” people as much as they have people who are more fashion forward. As you all know clothes, hair, etc. can make or break you. Upon moving to Atlanta I was very much disappointed in the number of “average” looking individuals who just double up on designer clothes and makeup. However, that’s the trend everywhere…not only in ATL.

Its so funny to me that people like to get offend because they aren’t considered attractive. We are all different perceptions of beauty. Im pretty sure whomever did the survey considered all races and cultures. The thing is, many of you just as good looking as you think you all. Blond hair,blue eyed may not be the standard of beauty for everyone so get over yourself. BTW, no city in the US has the natural beauty that comes from other countries.

Where are they going to determine the “attractive” population? Middle of downtown? Nightclubs? City parks? It would be helpful to know the answer to that question. Our parks definitely leave a lot to be desired, unlike the parks in other cities where the ‘beautiful people’ go.

Minneapolis/St. Paul (8), New York (9), Portland (13), Seattle (14), Chicago (17) and Boston (18) ALL had higher ratings for the attractiveness of their people than Atlanta (23) did. And yet you have these low-class, xenophobic, yankee-bashing dolts down here who insist that it was people from the north that made Atlanta get such a low rating? Are you people smoking crack?

Have you ever even BEEN up north? Perhaps if you had, you’d keep your mouth shut about how “ugly” northerners are. Shane. You need help. I have been to NY, Minnesota, Chicago, and Boston and saw plenty of UGLY people. Everyone looks fat, miserable, etc. Not counting “the city of Atlanta” there are very attractive people everywhere. Have you never been to a Braves game? There are hot women everywhere. I think there are both beautiful and not so attractive people in Atlanta. You will find that in any city. My question for the woman from Jersey is, “Why are you here?” If you really hate Atlanta so badly then leave! You must be here for a reason because you left your beloved Jersey. You may be a beautiful person on the outside, but your attitude is very ugly. How can someone from Jersey even talk about how someone else speaks? How dare you speak about our food! Who wants pizza and cheesesteak when you could have mac n cheese, potato salad, and sweet tea! You can keep your flat pizza and greasy cheesesteak. And lastly, for the person commenting about gas prices…you might want to check out other newspapers because people all over the country freaked out about gas. This article is ridiculous. Beauty cannot be measured. It’s a very individual thing. Our contestants in the national beauty pagents consistently rank highest and always have. We’ve spawned many pop idols and movie stars and television stars. If we depended on tourism like these other cities, we’d probably have a high ranking. But people don’t come here for entertainment. They come here because of the available work and cost of living.

It’s the people in the suburbs that are fat, racist, and unattractive. Do you people even ever cross 285 other than to go to work? When I moved to the south I encountered ugly rude folks however I have also met some very nice, and attractive folks as well. Ugly is everywhere. But to stereotype groups is crazy. Based on the comments here the old adage rings so true… Beauty is only skin deep but ugliness is to the bone!

I visited Atlanta since childhood and moved here 20 years ago. Back then Atlanta was perceived as the place for beautiful people, friendly and sweet. The women were awesome, Black and white. Honestly, we’ve lost some of what made Atlanta the best kept secret of the ‘80’s. Your comments here just validated that. But Atlanta is still full of beautiful people, I wish I was 30 again. No, Atlantans are not at all unattractive, it depends on what people would consider attractive to be honest. Everyone’s opinion on attractiveness differs. Me personally, I think curvy women like myself are more attractive and we look better in clothes. I would consider myself attractive even though I am curvy. The people that conducted the survey obviously based their study on what they deem attractive, and attractive is not always blond hair, blue eyes and a size 6. Beauty comes from within, and if you are an ugly person on the inside, trust me, it will show through on the outside.

It’s a terrible town for just about everything: culture, food, entertainment, sports. The reason it attracts all the “yankees” is because it’s all dirt cheap and someone needs to lead the Southern operations of real companies based in real places.

Trust me, Atlanta is the butt of jokes just about everywhere. Try living in any of the top cities on this list for a couple of months and even you will agree. Atlanta is a miserable place and I am glad I no longer live there.

This is amusing to say the least. Back when Buckhead was the elite place to be seen, I saw pretty people everywhere. It was intimidating and I consider myself to be a rather attractive person! When the Final Four was here in ‘07, while at a club in midtown, the out of town men kept commenting to me and my friend about how amazed they were at the number of beautiful women in Atlanta. Atlanta has no shortage of attractive people. My guy friend has vouched for Phoenix though, says there are many beautiful women there. The two places that I have heard from friends that has the ugliest women is Newark and Philadelphia.

I am originally from Miami and I am telling you the women here are much more attractive. The women there are not classy and are simply “plastic”. The women here are true beauties, with their captivating accents and charm. I even lived in Valdosta for a brief period (some of you may not believe this) but the women there are quite beautiful, maybe even more so than here. I prefer blonde- haired/blue-eyed women, but beauty can be found in all ethnicities.

Just returned from 6 months in San Francisco - and I have to say that the ATL looks darn shabby compared.

I travel for a living and I was born and raised in the South from a long line of Southerners. I agree that people in Atlanta are not very attractive anymore. That was not true years ago. I have been working in the Mid-West recently and the women there look so much better than the ones in Atlanta. I’m Africam American. I was born and raised in Miami. Yes Miami has beautiful and sexy women. The problem is poeple define beauty in Miami by the latin culture and not the brown culture or white for that matter.People are fascinated by the many beautiful latin women from Cuba,Peru, Brazil, Spain etc in Miami. They are not use to seeing people from other countries so the influx of these many cultures in the last 15 years have infactuated people from accross the Country. Atlanta has and unusual amount of beautiful black women. I mean real sweet, chocalote, pure naturally beautiful southern women. Beautiful hair, skin and very sweet. You don’t hear forbes talking about that because of one reason. They are of the brown culture.Miami and D.C has and abundance of exotic black women who are almost irresitable. You don’t hear them talking about that. So it boils down to how this country define beauty.An we know that they don’t recognize the brown culture when it comes to beauty. An we know that Africa has stunningly beautiful brown people. Brazil, Haiti, the Bahamas, Jamacia.Did you know that Brazil has more brown people than the United States. You don’t hear about them either.There is no other more beatiful and sexy race than the brown race hands down. But they never tell us that.

Personally, I was a transplant, and only stayed in Atlanta for a year, but I had a really hard time finding food I liked, unless it was fried. It was either too expensive and overrated, or just nasty and not like I’d ever had before. Anyway, I understand the survey part about the food. Can’t comment on the looks, though. I wasn’t looking.

I hate to break it to many of you that are posting these ridiculous messages. Whites, are not the standard of beauty. Sorry. Beauty comes in many shapes, sizes, colors and who is to determine which is better. Who knows, maybe whoever did the survey saw a bunch of whites with no makeup because we all know thats a nightmare in itself. Or maybe whites that were over the age of 40 who hadnt started their Botox treatments yet. Anywho, people are quick to complain that the “blacks” here are ruining the city, but less are willing to admit that are many very intelligent, educated ones here that are working hard to start a legacy of their own. Of course that wont be focused on because its easier for some to be negative then positive.

Your have very little noteoworthy food, art, or architecture. You’re yesterdays news. You were cool for a about a minute in the 90’s. Your traffic sucks. Your politics suck. And you need to raise taxes so you can buy a few new lakes, and a few thousand miles of road, and a new mass transit system. All you can do is blame the northern transplants who brought all that money to town. And helped you develop your real estate. You are indeed closed minded. News flash- not everyone needs to be white or Christian… so get over your hate too.

I am an Atlanta native and there are very few good looking and finely dressed men in this town. Gay and black men normally dress much better than white men. What’s wrong with you, guys? I would like to go out with a good looking well dressed white guy…but I am having difficulty finding one! All you transplants come here and enjoy our wonderful cuisine and start blowing up like balloons. True natives eat southern foods in moderation and have found ways to cut the fats!

Another problem we have is transient college students (like a previous poster stated). These students don’t care about Atlanta and can’t wait to get out of town with their diploma in hand.

The Mayor even talks about her Philadelphia attitude. If you are not happy here….please leave. That would mean less cars on the expressway and we might be able to travel a little faster.

I’ve been been telling people, and have been told by people for years, that atlantans are some of the most inbred homely unhealthy people than anywhere else in the populated places in the south. The ignorance too is just astounding here. I read once that atlanta during the civil war was a destination of some sort for the criminally insane to be sent to.

northerners dont even know what a real southern buiscuit is….they couldnt , cause they’ve never been to our houuses where we make home cooked food,….not tv dinners or bagged lettuce like them…..no wonder they’re almost all of them are flat - chested, staved looking, and pale….oh and let’s not forget very bit$%%%%y it’s cause they dont eat right. We southern women are juicy, tan, real mamas….and the men…well it’s like being with a real man and that makes us happy….so yeah go home skeletons! and by the way - our food from virginia all the way down to florida and Louisianna is some of the most finger lickin, rib stickin, filling and healthy that many have tried to copy but never knew….na na na na! Back to the topic,I must agree that MIA has the most attractive people,definitely the women, of any city in the U.S. I have visited 15-20 major cities in the country, we in ATL have attractive people. However, I must agree w/other posters, that the “ATTITUDES” of some of the women lower the attractiveness of a lot of women here in ATL. The women in L.A.,Las Vegas,MIA,& PHX have great attitudes to complement the beauty. Bottom line, ATL has nothing to be ashamed of,IMO—I LOVE these “peaches” and would not want to call any other city home. And I’m not a native of ATL.

When i pass wendys or macdonals resturants , i do it for my male self . what i see in my everyday life at the atl airport is anyone that is over 25 and older is not not not that airbrushed hot drop hottie…maybe 21 but not hot milf in the mags ..trustme ………got to go with the miami comment ..atlantas love the fried food and the people mix black and white and the mix of spanish , now proplem i see what all eat on a everyday meal…..wow.. atlanta…woman are fat/mean/ugly/and thats on a slow day..i agree with the comet , ive yet to find the one club in alt that does not serve wings ….and the leggs go bigger and bigger and bigger ..there mouths go louder and louder…………….sorry…get a mirror
