Where’s the best golf vacation?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There’s no feeling quite like enjoying your favorite pastime on vacation. If your preferred hobby is golf, no doubt you’ve visited or considered visiting Myrtle Beach, S.C. The area is a long, glorious stretch of golf courses. (Read about them by clicking here.)
Some golfers dream about playing the links at St. Andrew’s or Pebble Beach; many actually make it there.
Where’s the best golf vacation? What does it have to offer, and how often do you go?

Scotland, specifically St. Andrews, in July when the weather is tolerable. You can get to many great courses within 45 minute drive including Carnoustie.

For my money, the best golf vacation is Hilton Head Island. The variety of golf courses is good, the lodging is great and it’s 2 hours closer by car than Myrtle Beach. Twenty of us gather from around the country every May and spend four days golfing and cutting loose. I wouldn’t trade it for anyhting else.

By far the most scenic and challenging is the “Legends” on Parris Island S.C.. It’s a military course, but well worth the trip.

In the summertime Michigan is unbelievable. In Traverse City The Nicklaus resort is great. Go to Boyne Highland and play several of the best courses anywhere. If you can get on Crystal Downs it may be the 3rd best course in the U.S.

To me, Kiawah Island in SC is tops. 5 world class courses topped by the Ocean Course. Great golf getaway.

The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island,SC.
The Ocean Course has to be seen to be believed. Golf Digest ranked it the hardest course in the US.
Incredible place!

The best place to play golf is Tryall, near Montego Bay.
The entire golf experience is fantastic. Great Caddies, unbelievable course, first class accomodations. The course plays different everytime you play it.
Take a group, go down there, rent a villa and enjoy the golf, red stripe, superior food prepared by your live in cook and the friendliest people in the world
