How does Dollywood strike you?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
You just know going in that Dollywood’s going to be tacky, hokey, a hillbilly Disneyland, says travel writer William Schemmel.
But soon after passing through the turnstiles, he says, you look around and think: Disney could take some cues from Dolly.
The theme park created by Dolly Parton in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., is full of country music, country food, crafts and rides. Schemmel says Parton has given the park a soft Appalachian spin.
You’re never more than a few steps, or a few minutes, from live country, bluegrass, gospel and pop, on a half-dozen stages more than 40 times a day.
Have you been to Dollywood? Did you like or dislike it?
If you haven’t been, would you go?

I have been, and while DollyWood is not disney, I still have a great deal of fun when I travel to the area. The shopping is great and so is the ride up.

My family and I have been to Dollywood several times. At first we were hesitant to go, thinking it would be hokey and the music would drive us crazy. But it turns out we love the place. It is particularly good if you have kids 12 and under. Too many parks, like 6 Flags, are simply stages for one rollercoaster after another (which my younger kids don’t care for yet). Dollywood has a wide variety of rides good for all ages. Plus, it is super clean, the ride attendants were actually friendly, dressed neatly and seemed like they wanted to be there (when’s the last time you said that about a 6 Flags attendant?!), plus they don’t try to nickel and dime you over things like charging for a glass of water (which is offered free everywhere in the park). It’s only a half day drive away and makes a great long weekend trip. Discounts on admission are offered everywhere in the Pigeon Forge area. Unlike Disney, you’ll actually come home with a little money still in your pocket.

Dollywood is a fine place to take the family. It has something for EVERYONE.
I have fond memories of going to the same park as a kid…back when it was called Silver Dollar City….wow. It was frontier themed and great for a little boy that idolized John Wayne.
Dollywood is a very clean, nice place.

Much better than Six Flags. Closer and cheaper than Disney. Staff is friendly, nicely dressed, clean. Park is clean and neat. I agree with the earlier post …. when is the last time you heard any thing good about Six Flags? Maybe in the 70s?

I have been to many parks, but I must say my heart belongs to Dollywood. It is definitely the most pleasant place to have a good time, but more than any other park, it is truely a place you can take the entire family and there will be something for everyone. You can’t find a friendly place to be.

I am not a fan of country music. I probably would not go. But I agree with the poster above….the drive up is nice.
However, there are a lot of other things to do in the area… lots of great outdoor activities! I’ve enjoyed camping, hiking and rafting in the Smokies… always a great time.

I have been to Dollywood and it is a bit hokey. Can’t really say I liked it all however it is worth doing once if you are in the area. By the way you better like Dolly Parton because her stuff is everywhere. It is pretty much a shrine to Dolly….Yuck…

Well, DUH by me..hello the sign reads “DOLLYWOOD” in bold letters, she is in all 90% of all the commercials, what in the world did you expect???
I love the low key, low pace atmosphere. I enjoy the folks that work there, the great attitude and it’s really geared for families and not rude and spoiled rotten teens.

I LOVE DOLLYWOOD! It is an awesome place. There are so many things to do there - roller coasters, good food, music, shows, kiddie rides - something for everyone and If you are a Dolly fan, you will love this place - they have a Dolly museum. I have been hundreds of times - at least 5 or 6 times a year. the best thing to do is get a season pass so you can go all year long!

Dollywood is awesome….its a great place for families, clean and the food and gift shops are not overpriced. Also Dolly’s SplashCountry is a whole wack of fun…our kids loved it! Better than the waterparks up here they claim. By the way, who doesn’t like Dolly? The smokies are worth the trip by themselves, but Dollywood just made it that much more special. Can’t wait to go back!

dollywood is awesome—we have been there many times including at christmas time—every season has something for everyone—but the lights and shows are the best—they really put you into the christmas spirit!-but when dolly’s there its the best—the staff, rides, landscaping is inpeccable—we drive from canada and yes we buy the seasons pass every year!

Dollywood is a more laid back style theme park, we’ve been there many times beginning when it was Silver Dollar City, my children enjoyed it emmensley now my grandchildren enjoy it as well. At dollywood there is a broad spectrum of ages for the employees some are seniors and some are teens but all are happy and friendly. Theres a lot of Dolly there we aren’t especially dolly fans but you have to give her credit she’s done a fantastic job bothin the park and also promoting it, she’s done a lot as far as bringing employment to the area. I can’t wait to go again.

I love Dollywood. Disney does not have anything on Dollywood.. That is the best place to go. I live hours from Disney World and would rather drive 10 hours to get to Dollywood than 3 to get to Disney.. It is just the most fabulous place to be. It is very clean, the people are very nice. The atmosphere is just wonderful. The food, entertainment is great… Everyone should love Dollywood… And it is even more exciting when Dolly is there… She is a wonderful person .. Thanks, Sharon

Dollywood is one of the best theme parks around. My family and I go every year. Oh, and you do not have to like country music to appreciate and enjoy Dollywood.

Has been many years ago, but not too many for me to remember it to be one of the most enjoyable theme parks, attractions or the like, I have ever visited. We were able to catch a show by her brother, Randy, and I have always considered Dolly to be a warm soul with a heart of gold. She has injected her kind and considerate spirit into every nook and cranny of the park. I still cant believe we enjoyed a country buffet for an unheard of low price!, the word was it was intentional, so that hopefully, everyone could enjoy the homespun feeling Dollywood gives you, THANKS Dolly!

Dollywood is a park for all ages, they have rides for very small children all the way to the breathtaking rollercoasters. There are plenty of shows all the way from Bluegrass To Rock n Roll and magic. Food and snacks are abundant and reasonably priced. I especially like the craftpeople there you can see buggys being built to buckets being made needlecraft leather works, my grandson has a custom made baseball bat from there. We haven’t been to the Rats nest in years we either go to DollyWood or Wild Adventures in Valdosta, both parks are great.
