Traveling this summer?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With Memorial Day just ahead, and the official start of the summer travel season, I’m wondering how many of you are planning a trip, and how you’re going?
The Travel Industry Association just came out with numbers predicting travel will grow 1.4 percent this summer over last summer, and that ever-rising gas prices will have only a small effect in dampening enthusiasm. They predict prices will have to top $3.50 a gallon before people will alter their summer vacation plans.
What about you? Are you watching gas prices or don’t care? Will you be driving an RV on a trip this summer (gas is more of a consideration there because the biggest coaches get under 10 mpg)? Will you be flying to someplace you’ve always wanted to see?
According to TIA, air travel is expected to grow at a larger percentage that auto travel, about 3 percent in June. However, 8 in 10 vacations will still be by auto. Some 80 percent of travelers will be visiting relatives, but others plan to go to the beach, see a national park or state park, visit a city, take a cruise, or go to all-inclusive resort or a theme park. RVers are expected to use their RVs more this spring and summer than last year; nearly half of them say high gas prices won’t affect their plans.

Absolute BS! The gas companies are reaping huge profits every summer now by bidding up the price on bogus information of idle refineries, storms, china’s demand, special blends. They are colluding and it is not fair trade. They have us by the unmentionables.

It’s funny how none of the presidential canidates, democrat or republican, have mentioned rising gas prices as a major issue that needs to be addressed. The big oil company execs. have these suckas so deep in their pockets it’s a shame. But yet and still, they keep harping on issues such as stem cell research, same sex marriage, and other B.S. that the average American could care less about. This is ridiculous. By the way, theye can keep these lame a* excuses as well.

Gas prices at these levels will seem like a bargain a few months from now. As much as most want to complain about oil cos gourging consumers it simply isn’t happening. Investment returns for oil companies remain below comparable industries. With China and India growing rapidly expect $5 gas for many years to come. There are numerous companies with the capabilities to compete against Exxon and Shell should prices move much higher. We’re just not at those levels yet.

The only way to stop this is to NOT support the corporate owned gas stations. Sure, buy gas because we have to, but no lottery tickets, bottle of Coke, bag of chips, etc.

Yes, the gas prices are going up. HOWEVER, 99 % of America is missing the MOST IMPORTANT THING! 75% of products in the USA arrives on 18 wheelers. They run off of diesel. That price is also skyrocketing. SO, prepare for inflation as cost of fuel is spread around. Let’s see, the product passes 5 points of precessing, so, 5 fuel sur charges……..and we know each will see that charge as a way to increase prices a LITTLE more for that extra penny above added fuel cost.
No, stand-by…THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!!
And my 4% raise is not keeping up!

Silly libs - if you idiots would have got with the program when we changed out the White House in 2000, you’d have plenty to spend on the gas hike. Don’t like it? Buy a horse…or a donkey :-)

Stop your complaining about gas prices. Purchase a vehicle that gets better fuel economy…. Do you know the difference between a profit and a profit margin? Stop complaining about the Oil Companies….

You got a 4 percent raise? I’m envious!
Seriously, I think gas prices are going to start putting a dent in my family budget. Yesterday, I filled up my 15-gallon car (which gets 26 mpg) and the tab ran $42. Yikes!
