Atlanta’s No. 2!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If you’re staying in Atlanta this year to celebrate New Year’s, you’re part of a hip crowd. According to Hotwire.com, Atlanta’s No. 2 on its lits of hot destinations for New Year’s celebrations (last year, Atlanta ranked 6th). Part of the reason is Atlanta’s mild climate; another factor is its moderate hotel room rates.
What are you doing for New Year’s? What would you tell visitors to do while they’re here? Do you have some last-minute suggestions for people who want to get out but haven’t made plans yet?
Here’s the hip list, based on hotel bookings on Hotwire.com. (2005 rankings are in parentheses):
1. Chicago (1)
2. Atlanta (6)
3. Orlando (2)
4. New Orleans (Not in Top 10 last year)
5. San Francisco (4)
6. Las Vegas (5)
7. Los Angeles (8)
8. Phoenix, Ariz. (3)
9. Orange County, Calif. (Not in Top 10 last year)
10. New York City (7)

The blog entry on the AJC main page listed this site as: Great places to go for New Year’s.
This is just a bogus blog. The front page of the AJC online indicated you would already have listings of places on here - not want us to do your job for you.
Amanda Miller - do your job and list things going on around town for New Year’s and get off your @ss.

Sorry, guys. The blog listing on the ajc.com home page was misleading; it’s being corrected. This was never intended to be a comprehensive listing of things to do for New Year’s in Atlanta. The Atlanta events are elsewhere on the ajc.com site. The Travel site is more concerned with things to do outside Atlanta — i.e., when you travel.

Watch all the trash comments start from the yanks about the city, eventhough they move down here in droves.

Mark, you’re right to warn about yanks posting about the city. Fortunately, many transplanted yanks like me love Atlanta - all parts of it, and I hope to be able to do what I can to be a positive addition to my hometown as do most national or international transplants. We wouldn’t be coming here if it wasn’t a great place. I didn’t come here for a job, I like the people!
Have a great New Year everyone!

You may want to warn people that while they look for NYE destinations to double check the hours of operation since the city of Atlanta recently decided to make all non-restaurants in Fulton County (including bars & nightclubs) stay closed until 12:01 am on Monday morning.

As someone that once lived in Atlanta, I miss the New Year’s Eve parties and southern hospitality. I now live in San Francisco, which is number 5 on the list, and after three years, there is only so much fun that “the city by the bay” can offer. I mean come on, the Castro gets old after a while. Have a great New Year Atlanta, and remember that a Georgia boy will be celebrating with you at 9:00pm!
