Going to Jacksonville for Gator Bowl?

Across my desk today came a caution for Georgia Tech fans planning to visit Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day:

Be careful where you buy your bowl packages. You could argue that the caution, from a reputable network of travel agencies, is somewhat self-serving. But they make a good point: There are lots of scam artists out there ready to take your money with promises of tickets they can’t, or won’t, keep.

Are you planning to make the trip to Jacksonville and do you have your tickets yet? Did you get a good deal you could recommend to others? Have you ever been burned by ticket scalpers?

Here are some tips the travel professionals think you should know about when booking:

If the advertisement, brochure or other solicitation material for a tour package to a bowl game does not specifically mention a game ticket, it probably is not included.

The U.S. Department of Transportation does not allow tour operators to advertise or offer packages which include game tickets, unless they have the tickets in hand or a written contract to provide tickets. If an operator of a special event tour does not provide an event ticket to a participant as advertised, the participant is entitled to a refund of the total tour package, without penalty.

If the price of the tour package increases more than 10 percent after a booking is made, the consumer may cancel a booking and obtain a full refund, without penalty.

The price of a special event tour package may not be increased within 10 days of departure.

Fans should get information about the tour package and operator in writing, book their travel through a reputable travel agent or tour operator affiliated with a professional organization and consider paying by credit card, which offers some protection under the fair credit practice law.

If Reggie Ball is at QB then this won’t matter. Nobody wants to see him start his last game at Tech and give them the best chance to lose again. If this happens then ticket sales next year will drop tremendously, unless Gailey is fired, which should happen anyway. Why can’t the powers that be at Tech see that Chan Gailey is in this for himself and not for GA TECH.

I love what chan gailey has done with the program. We have NEVER been to a championship in a long time. i was just happy to go down to j-ville for the game. It did not turn out like i wanted it to, but never the less, we were at a championship game. Reggie will do fine in the bowl game. Sometimes you just have to stick with the guy who gives you the best chance to win. I have just come to the conclusion that we will probably always be just medicore at best. We have just about reached our potential right now. Ramble on down to J-ville for the 1st.

At least our big brother or should i say bully UGA is playing on DEC 30th.

Can’t believe that the stupid, red-neck, inbread ugay fans have actually stooped to talking BS on a TRAVEL BLOG!!!!!

I have completly lost ALL RESPECT for the GA TECH fans! Once you started calling into 790 the zone, along with as my brother-in laws (who are GA Tech graduates), stating, they would RATHER BEAT GEORGIA THAN WIN THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIP. That is so dousch as well as under acheiving. You don’t belong in any conference!

Don’t tell me, that, I don’t know what a rivialry is or even hatred. Because, I am Gamecock, and you know who our awful, awful rival is…..but in NO WAY, NO WAY, would I rather beat Clemson than win the SEC champioship. (the feeling of 95% of Carolina fans).

Reinvent your culture Tech fans!

Hey RAMBLE ON,

You guys are freaking terrible. You guys had the best receiver in the world and could not beat anybody. Oh yeah, Jax says thank you for the most boring and lack luster championship game ever. But the best thing about the game was——TECH FREAKING LOST.

TECH LOST @ THE WORLD’S SMALLEST OUTDOOOR COCKTAIL PARTY. WHAT WAS THE ATTENDANCE——10,000. WOW!!!!! 9-6 HA HA HA HA— TAKE THAT TECH.

I agreed with mc. I’m a Clemson Tiger and I rather win an ACC Championship and be in the Orange or some other BCS Bowl game than to beat those awful, smelly ,nasty Gamechickens. Sure losing to them hurt this season but I’m sure we will beat atleast 50% of the time and I’m fine with that. As far for any tips to the Gator Bowl, I like to stay somewhere on the beach for a couple of days. I do’nt find Jacksonville that fun of a city and two nights there is about all I can stand.I’ve been to the Gator Bowl many time following my Tigers and the weather has been near spring or raining to temps in the 20’s. I know all 500 Tech fans that going for the game should have an alright time. GO TIGERS!

Kudo’s for those fans that re-live the the championship game horrors. I was sick to my stomach after being so pumped up. We had a great showing from fans, alumni, and students. Watching Reggie Ball screw up another dominating performance by the defense is more than I can stomach this go around. Let’s hope that our top 10 recruiting class is as good as they predict for Chan’s sake. GO JACKETS

Hey Scott, your big Bully UGA has won two SEC tiltes in the last four years and guess what? We sold out the dome each time. Not like the Championship starved Yellow Jackets. Your show of fan support in Jacksonville for the ACC title game was a disgrace to your school and your conference. What you said does not make much sense,”We have NEVER been to a championship in a long time.” Either you have never been or it has been a long time. Which is it? That is a Tech fan for you. And they think they are the smart ones. Please take UGA’S best player (Reggie Ball) and go get stomped by the Mountaineers.

I still can’t believe the TECH fans didn’t sell out your championship game, but there again, you would rather beat UGA,(UGA could care less) than win your ACC champioship and receive 14 mil and a BCS bowl bid. THAT IS PATHEIC!!!

Bottom line is this fellas… Tech feels incredibly inferior, and they will always find something to talk about?? Gee what will it be now? Let’s see, uhh….what else do you people have to argue about? Bring it on!!! Do you people realize how silly you sound? At least we were in the championship game of our lousy conference, and at least we’re going to get smoked by WV on JAN 1. Come on, Tech folks…. Just admit it. The best year your team has had in 6 years and you still cannot beat the DAWGS in our worst year in six years. What does that say about your program? Please come talk smack when you actually have something to talk about! Why don’t people take a lesson from the likes of Vanderbilt or Duke? They let it go, and every 20 years or so, the win a game or two against their rivals. Face it Tech, you’re a glorified Vandy, trying to be something you’re not. And, I know what you’re going to say now… Hey Twin Dawg.. Why don’t you get back to work?? Well guess what techies??? There are more of your graduates working for us? It’s true, you have just created some bogus myth and you know it! Face it, you are all nothing but a bunch of losers!!! Go DAWGS!!! We will win this time in the GA Dome on Dec. 30th. We can promise CMR and the Dawgs will not be overlooking anyone, and will never be embarrassed in our state again like we were last year when we lost by 3 points. You people however, are about to exprience a major but-kicking by the same team! Goooo DAWGS!!! We’ll be barking Jacksonville and in Atlanta, and everywhere TECH goes!! Admit, we haunt you people!!

Get over yourselves and get on the UGA blog and pat each other on the back, as the state university beat the local engineering school. Big Deal! Go bark up a tree. Go bark at your wife. As a matter of fact, go look in a mirror and look at yourself bark. Now that would be a funny sight.

HA HA HA HA Do you really think the nerds are going to travel down there again to see them lose? Heck for the Atlantic Crappy Conference championship game they only had 10,000 or so. Never seen such a bad team with terrible fans. UGA has 45,000 down there for the Florida game and that is a REGULAR season game. The best news is that this was Tech’s best chance. They will only be worse for the next few years. Gotta love it.

Chris,

You are correct my friend. To all of you techies out there. We hope you enjoyed your year of fun, b/c it looks like the pits from here on out. Jon Tenuta may be offered something better, and who would blame him if he left? Calvin is gone.. Reggie is gone.. It may be surprising to you guys that this is actually a bad thing. Reggie was a decent QB at times. Who is going to replace him?

Like I say, enjoy your 9-6 season and all the smack you got to talk leading up to Thanksgiving, which by the way, is absurd. You do not get bragging rights in a rivalry until you actually win a game. That to me and many dawgs I have heard from was one of the most satisfying aspects of beating you this year. This one was sweeeet indeed!!! I would go to the Gator Bowl if Taylor Bennett or any other GT quarterback was starting. I never want to see Reggie Ball in a GT uniform again. All he is going to do at the Gator Bowl is trash talk anyway.

And it’s immaterial if GT would rather beat UGA or win the ACC Championship. We have done neither with Reggie Ball at quarterback for 4 years. Chan Gailey is horrible as a coach and/or motivator of players.

I realize most UGA fans cannot read, but I’ll try to explain in words they can understand. Tech sold out their allotment of tickets for the AGGCG, Wake apparently did not. If you were there instead of your job at the Waffle House you would have seen it with your own eyes. Yes, the weather did not cooperate and many of us took shelter in the cozy club section. I am still proud of the Jackets and hope that this is a step in the right direction for our program. What’s the good word? THWG and GO HOKIES!!!!

this is not a Tech vs. Ga blog, in fact this blog has nothing to do with Ga at all. so why the hell do you ugag fans continue to enter our gates and talk smack you beat us, congratulations. you have an entire year to gloat, but please let us have this blog to talk about travel arrangements. some of us are going back to Jacksonville as a true fan would and some will stay home. its our choice. you worry about Va Tech and let us worry about W. Virginia. at least wait until the week before the game to tell us again how much we suck. yaaadaa yadaaa yadaaa. so you can go back to your cubby holes and trailer parks. get off your high horse or at least ride it back to your own blogs and leave us alone. i am happy for you guys, you salvaged what could have been a disastrous season by winning you last couple of games. i cant take any credit away from you. your team played better than ours and you won, PERIOD. now finish off the job against Va Tech, i mean its literally win your back yard, so take care of business and let us TRUE tech fans worry about our season.

Thanks all of you UGALY fans for dropping by to see how to get your tickets to go see a GA football team play in a Jan 1st bowl — Since there’s only ONE! I was feeling pretty down about how Reggie single-handedly blew our season in the 2 most important games of his career…That is, of course, until you guys dropped by.

Then I started thinking about these things:

UGALY wins at home by one point over pathetic Colorado

UGALY snatches a 5 pt win from the jaws of defeat at MISS

TENN scores 51 (FIFTY-ONE) POINTS in a ROUT tween them Hedges of Shame

VANDY (he-he-he) Vandy RUINS Homecoming tween them Hedges of SHAME

UGALY snatches a last minute 3 pt win from those jaws of defeat against another MISS team

LOSS at FLORIDA — AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN, you know the drill*

Old KENTUCKY BLUE DOMINATES UGALY tween them Hedges of Shame

Then it dawned on me…The SALVAGE of your PATHETIC season was a 3pt W over Reggie Ball, once again with help from the Officials…But nothing new there, huh? You guys had an ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC ENTIRE SEASON and you come over here to talk smack, but it just cheers me up.

Every time I read one of your CRYPTIC postings, I KNOW I made the right choice attending (and graduating from) TECH, and of course nobody in their right mind would even CONSIDER making a statement like “UGALY beats Tech again in ACADEMICS”…

TECH WINS year in and year out with SUPERIOR ACADEMICS — And EVERYONE KNOWS IT!

Especially since your Loser President is quoted MULTIPLE TIMES stating how Athletics is MORE IMPORTANT than Academics at UGALY LMAO at that one…OVER and OVER!!

That’s WHY UGALY will ALWAYS be INFERIOR to TECH: Second-tier academics Add to that an absolutely EMBARRASSING FOOTBALL SEASON, and the fact that you’re stuck far enough away from civilization that you occassionally catch a stray FART from the Anus of Atlanta…Well, having Reggie Ball for ONE MORE GAME isn’t all that bad anymore!

I fell SO MUCH BETTER now…Thanks for reminding us of the WRETCHED FATE of UGALY and ALL who have the MISFORTUNE to have to settle for going there…Because they couldn’t get into TECH

you know what thebeaz, you are right, if it wasnt for that bizzare fumble recovery. and before you UGA fans jump on me for calling that play bizzare, i didnt say it wasnt a fumble i said the play itself was very bizzare. after watching it about 2 dozen times the right call was made and i can live with that. i dont like that it went in your favor and not ours but the right call was made. there you go i said it, happy but if it wasnt for that play, poor little Reggie might have snuck outta there with a win, and that would have really been a disappointing to you guys down there in Athens. but it didnt go that way and once again we’ll have to wait til next year.

Of course, whenever anyone starts talking ACADEMICS, South Carolina doesn’t even show up on the Radar Screen…But I guess someone besides MISS schools have to make UGALY look GOOD academically!

The reason the fumble play was so bizarre is because they NEVER end that way…Except in this game.

The CORRECT call (as any football fan knows) in a scrum (or pileup) following a fumble is to: Blow the play dead and peel the players off to determine possession.

Watch 1,000 football games with a FUMBLE and ensuing SCRUM and guess what you’ll see? The officials running to the pile BLOWING THE PLAY DEAD…EVERY TIME.

Except, of course, THIS time…That’s the ONLY reason the play was bizarre. Otherwise, players in the scrum would simply TOSS, KICK or otherwise TRANSFER THE BALL to a teammate EVERY TIME if the play were still LIVE.

The officials FAILED TO KILL THE PLAY AND RESTORE ORDER IN A SCRUM WHERE POSSESSION WAS UNKNOWN. If it would’ve been reversed, SURE, I’d have been happy that TECH ran it in for a touchdown…But I’d still have the BALLIES to say the Officials should’ve blown the play dead.

The REAL PROBLEM was the ENDZONE DIVE…And it just shows the LACK OF CLASS at UGALY. But that comes from the TOP, where Adams would gladly accept U of Miami transfer THUGS to compete in the SEC. Gotta do something different next year Adams besides putting Athletics above Academics…Cause UGALY simply isn’t competing in the SEC anymore, as ANYONE can see.

What the hell does ugaly spell anyway? Typical nerd humor. Hell I guess you guys get it. You know what is even more funny. As bad as our season was, I mean losing to Kentucky and Vandy in the same year is really bad. I tell you what losing games to those two teams in the SEC is almost a death sentence. And with our QB issues and the recievers not catching the BALL and with the DEFENSE not playing up to GEORGIA standards. Our season sucked. You know it sucked seeing the goofball nerds playing on Dec 2nd and us sitting at home watching. That sucks I mean its not like we have not been there what the last 3 out of 6 years and winning two of those. You guys are nerds figure out the percentage. But you know what NERD HERD? You guys play in a watered down football conference. I mean Miami and FSU had horrible years. Clemson played like Clemson. They beat the hell out of you guys and then lose the next week. But I understand about the expectations of a Georgia Tech fan… I mean for the first time probably since what the year Colorado won the national title game you guys are playing on Jan 1? I guess that would have me excited like hell to. whats it been 16 years? So you guys know the history and I do not think I need to talk about the 6 years of Georgia winning the big game (atleast to Tech Fans). Some travels tips for you guys in Jax. Don’t want everyone to think us UGAY/UGALY fans arent civil. Ok nerds….I am not sure if the allow tickle piles in Jacksonville. I mean because it is allowed over on North Avenue does not mean it is every where. Also if you could please, please leave the manish looking women that attend GTU here in the ATL. Them folks down there think our beautiful GEORGIA women are the best. Please leave the tech women at home. Third not sure about comic book stores. If you type into Google: Tech nerds looking for comic books stores in jax . I am sure they will give them to you. and thebeaz what ever that is. We WON move on in your search to find spider-man comic book #1 or whatever it is you do with your time. Seriously I was visiting a web-site deicated solely to The state of Georgia sports team and I found one called Georgia Sports blog. They have a great tribute video posted in honor of both Tech and UGA football season. Check it out. GO DAWGS…….6 years straight.

UGA has the bestest fans in the world, and we pack ‘em in to Sanford every game day. Here’s how we get ‘em there:

click here for the Georgia Bandwagon

You’ll find virtually all of the Dawg fans on this site in the picture. Enjoy!

Notice all the deranged mutt fans on a Tech TRAVEL blog? UGA fans earn their reputation as the very worst fans in the SEC.

You UGAG bozos think that you upset us with your asinine comments. That is laughable. We have no desire to associate with redneck, ignorant fans like you…that’s one of the reasons why we went to a top ranked university… so we don’t have to live, work, and associate with UGA rednecks in trailer parks.

So enjoy your trivial and useless comments; we hope that it brings some artificial satisfaction to you. But remember, we enjoy knowing that we could get into UGAG no problem (who would though is the question), but the vast majority of UGA fans would NEVER, EVER qualify to get into Tech. You know why? Because you can’t fix stupid!

A sports program can change, both Tech’s and UGAG’s have over the years. However, Tech alums have a lifetime satisfaction of knowing one simple truth when we encounter the fools from UGAG — WE ARE SMARTER THAN YOU AND WE WILL ALWAYS BE SMARTER THAN YOU ARE. So take your inferiority complexes somewhere else; we don’t care what you think, what you eat, where you work or live… as long as it’s not near us.

Go Tech! UGAG sucks, it always has

Well said Brainiac…..I get so tired of seeing Georgia fans on TECH blogs. Hey guys our season is over and I am hoping Reggie atleast has one big win left in him on Jan 1st. But I found this picture that is getting me geared up for next season. Good luck Calvin in the NFL. And go Jackets http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/2270/500/1600/656421/six%20in%20a%20row.jpgJ

GT drew and sold well for the ACC Champ Game. Empty seats don’t equal low draw by GT. Wake was out numbered 5-1(too small fan base) and the locals didn’t support the game. They didn’t last year either.

USC as you know or maybe not, has one of of the top International business studies department in the country thank you. (Darla Moore)

Tech fans need to get over the fact, that, UGA fans don’t take this rival as serious as you guys do. They have Auburn, FLA, Tenn, who else am I missing? Us, (USC) and you guys. USC will move up in the near future because of the Spurrier factor however.

I just canNOT get pass, Tech fans, prefering to beat UGA than win the ACC….I just can’t drop that!

Contrary to the ignorant ramblins of the predominant SMACKers here, the tickets are selling very well. I waited a week and lost out on a 20 yard line seat and now am settling for an end zone side line seat. My son and I are going regardless of who starts. You know CG will start RB - he has to at this point.

Looking forward to a great game.

Yes, now this blog has been infiltrated not only by UGAg fans but now by an SC fan as well! Hello! Get a life! mc, we don’t want your opinions anymore. You don’t even have anything to do with us since we don’t even PLAY South Carolina. Honestly, Steve Spurrier is your coach, and you still suck! Enough said!

mc -

Not sure what Tech fans you are referring to. Not sure what Tech fans would speak to you.

All Tech fans that I know would always prefer to win a conference championship over a win against ugag. And, all Tech fans that I know are now cheering for Wake to win their BCS bowl.

It is the ugay fans that are stupid and mixed up. Ugay fans are cheering for Florida to lose their BCS bowl. Ugay fans say that you would rather beat Tech than beat Florida.

Get your story straight!

Leave it to a Tech guy to now how to spell “douche.” It is probably his niddle name. His last name would be “bag.”

First, does every discussion have to disintegrate into a Tech vs. UGA rant? Frankly, that is getting quite boring.

Regarding Jacksonville…I would agree that staying in Georgia offers you the chance to be relatively close to the game while avoiding Florida prices and bowl game hotel price hikes. But if you are going to stay in Camden County, skip Kingsland and stay in Saint Marys. Saint Marys has some nominal amount of charm; Kingsland wallows in a perpetual state of rural sprawl - all the worst parts of Gwinnett without the people.

You Tech fans can say all you want about your quarterback situation or how good you think your defense is. WVU will run over top of you guys. Don’t waste your money going to the game it’s going to be a joke.

WVU will win by 3 touchdowns.

A travel tip for Tech… Get on the team bus and leave early and don’t tell Reggie you have left. Don’t forget to bring your excuses as to why you lost, such as “The refs screwed us..” “Our academics are tough..” It was UGAs fault..”

UGA sux, after watching the replay on CSS I saw where we got screwed again, remember the fumble by Ball where Tony Taylor ripped the ball out of our guys hand when the ball should have been blown dead by the sorry ACC refs, I recall a few years ago when all the p*** hydrant humpers cried abou Jasper drug smuggler Sanks non fumble and how the AJC showed frame after frame of the fumble trying to make Techs win look like a hoax well where in the hell was the AJC this time when it was the play that turned the game in mutts favor, come on uga a holes, it is obvious that you get help .Crying out loud even the sorry Governor was peeing in his pants over the ajc coverage when the paper criticized the mutts who were not that good and VT will kick there fannies at the dome and the Ga dome will be empty by the 4th quarter…to hell with uga..

Hey Prunner… At least you had the benefit of a review of instant replay with the Taylor recovery, which confirmed the call by ACC refs. In the game where Sanks didn’t fumble, and you know he didn’t, there was no replay. If there was the call would have been reversed and you know it. If it was such a good call, why did the ACC either disipline and or fire those refs after that game?

I just saw where Tech is a seven and a half point underdog against WVU. Give me WVU, Slaton, White and take the points, bugs.
