Are you blue?

Labor Day is is my least favorite holiday! It’s always signaled the end of summer and the start of fall. Though I know it’s not the end of long sunny days, it feels that way.

Does anyone else get the blues in September, feel that it’s time to brace yourself for the coming dark and chilly days? What do you do to shake off the malaise?

The last couple of years, to cheer ourselves up, we’ve taken trips. In mid-September, we’re headed to London for a week. I highly recommend travel as a remedy (and in the real dead of winter, a light box helps, too).

Well, Labor Day isn’t my favorite holiday, either, but not for that reason. It just isn’t a fun one, to me.

As for September? When it comes around each year, I actually feel better, because that means the stifling heat and humidity of a Georgia summer are finally just about over again and I can spend time outdoors comfortably again.

That’s probably also a great deal of the reason why autumn has always been my favorite season!

But, I also don’t really like the dead of winter, either. In fact, I’m not a huge fan of either extreme, but the relief from the summer heat in the fall is definitely nice.

The winter blues don’t usually hit me until January. It’s just a very blah month.

Blue? Absolutely not! Try Red and Black for starters! Not only is September the beginning of the best 12 weeks of the year NCAA wise, and September and October in Atlanta are ablaze with fall color and crisp blue skies as the leaves turn and we leave the heat, humidity (and smog) behind. Having been raised in Atlanta, I shed nary a tear over leaving the season…goodbye dog days, hello “dawg” days!

BLUE!! Are you kidding? The heat is starting to go, our beautiful fall weather is coming - it’s the best time of the year! Sports heaven - football, baseball and NASCAR are going full tilt.

This is the best time of the year as far as I’m concerned too. I know the heat should start to go soon, with cooler temps to follow. Football is starting, along with cross country - another favorite sport. Yay fall!

September is the greatest time of year. We are finally over the boring months of summer and the oppressive heat soon will go away for awhile. September brings football. There is no better way to spend a Friday night than in a high school stadium and Saturday either on a college campus or in front of a TV set with the remote control in your hand. Throw in fall festivals and harvest time and this time of year is perfect. I cannot imagine anyone complaining about September.

I love September; warm days but cooler nights, kids back to college, my birthday at the end of the month, fall festivals, lower electric bills, mountain apples, turning leaves, and College Football!!!!!! Depressing? No Way! I think January is depressing, but never September.

Am I in the minority here, or what? And I thought I would get sympathy from like-minded folks who hate to see summer go. I love the heat and the sunshine, getting up for walks in the cool of the morning in shorts, not a sweatsuit and overcoat!

I will agree, though, that January is the worst month of all — some of the coldest temperatures and not much to look forward to until mid-February, when early flowers start to come out. Unless you plan a cruise for January, or a trip to South America. Now that’s an idea!
