What to do on the Fourth of July?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
July Fourth may be a celebration of the nation’s independence, but to me it spells summertime.
It means picnicking at the lake, swimming and sunning, stirring up a pitcher of sangria, and, in the evening, lying on a blanket watching fireworks. All those things don’t necessarily happen on any given July Fourth, but that’s the picture I carry around.
What’s your ideal celebration? Do you travel somewhere? Do you stay at home and have a barbecue? Stay at home and do nothing?

We usually spend the 4th in Ft.Myers Fl.They have the worlds safest beaches and the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen. The areas restaurants are awesometo say the least. Our favorite is Maria’s, they have the most unusual bldg with talkiing parrots and great seafood that I know of.We go there as often as possible.

I had to work many times on the 4th, which is a shame. We dont even respect our National Holiday, thats unheard of in other countries. The stores are packed with people shopping….

Before getting married and having kids; I used to travel to my dad’s house every year for his famous bar-b-q ribs. Now, I volunteer and run the Peachtree Road race(my 13 year old will be joining me this year), and I have a bar-b-q at my house. Once the sun goes down the family and I drive to an open parking lot and watch the fireworks show being held at Centennial Park.

This will be my first year as a volunteer at the Peachtree Road Race. They are still looking for volunteers if you want to sign up!!!!! After that, probably a nap since we have to be there early to set up and get ready for the races.

My family has always gone to our next door neighbors house where friends and family bring a dish and swim, pig out and socialize while getting sunburned. A great time is had by all! The brave would battle the traffic and go see the fireworks at the park. Good times!
