Traveling over Labor Day?

Paula Crouch Thrasher is hard at work with some ideas for fun Labor Day weekend escapes watch for them in the paper and on the Web on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Meanwhile, tell us where you’re going or what you’re planning to do. I’m making a pre-holiday weekend visit to Arkansas to see my family and likely will use Labor Day back in Atlanta (well, really Marietta) to rest up. I have in mind a perfect day: A long walk on Kennesaw Battlefield with our dogs, late morning brunch, an afternoon for reading and napping and supper (prepared by someone else, of course!).

What’s on your agenda? Is Labor Day a day for rest, or a last fling at summer? Will it be so full of activities you won’t roll out of bed on time on Tuesday? Please tell.

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel du Levant in Paris on the Left Bank? It was on the list of hotels in the AJC roughly three months ago. I have booked it for next week, but have read some dismal reviews. If anyone has stayed at this hotel recently I would so appreciate any feedback. I can still cancel!

Me, my boyfriend and about 12 other friends are going to Myrtle Beach Labor Day weekend. I’m am pretty sure that we’re going to have fun but, I pray everything goes smoothly with such a crowd.

Hi Chelsea

I haven’t personally stayed there, but I hope other readers can help. I’m trying to recall what article the hotel was listed with? Perhaps I can contact the writer and ask.

Hi Ashonte

Give us an update when you get back from Myrtle Beach. Sometimes crowds can be a lot of fun, and sometimes when the beach is too populated to find a place to lay a towel, not so fun. Is Myrtle Beach doing anything special, like fireworks displays? This is probably something I should know as travel editor, but I’ve been involved in my own little world this week, trying to learn a new software system and barely getting my work out.

We always love the crowd scene for the boat races in Sarasota over the July 4 weekend — a pretty laid-back, mostly family-friendly bunch watching the boats go by — and not so crowded that you’re picking your way through a sea of bodies with no hope of finding your own spot.
