Obama’s call to volunteerism
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
President-elect Barack Obama has urged millions of Americans to use the Martin Luther King holiday as a day of service, helping others less fortunate.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee has joined forces with the Corporation for National and Community Service and Facebookto spread the word about how people can get involved.
In Atlanta and elsewhere, organizations and churches are also getting the word out. The Obamas plan to spend part of their day volunteering.
How will you spend the King holiday? Do you plan to volunteer? Do have suggestions for others interested in volunteering? Send us your volunteer photos!

How many jobs could be created with the funds that are going to be wasted on this inauguration?

To the contrary…how many jobs were created and how many business benefitted from the massive number of people traveling to DC? Airlines, hotels, restaurants, travel agents, bus lines, caterers, bands, party suppliers, retailers, etc.. Yes, lots of money is spent on an Inaugaration and I don’t know how much is paid for by taxpayers and how much is paid for by private organizations, but the Inaugaration is actually a stimulus to the economy, both in the DC area and throughout the country.
As for volunteering today…I don’t have the day off, but I certainly support all those people who are taking the initiative to make their day off a day of service.
