Do you agree with the Nichols’ verdict?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Brian Nichols has been found guilty of multiple counts of murder in the deaths of Rowland Barnes, Julie Ann Brandau, Hoyt Teasley, and David Wilhelm.
A Fulton County jury deliberated two days before reaching the verdict. During the trial, jurors have have listened to more than 90 witnesses and saw more than 900 pieces of evidence introduced in the more than six weeks of trial.
Nichols confessed to committing the murders three years ago. His attorneys claimed their client was delusional and believed he was leading a “slave revolt” against an unjust system. Prosecutors, however, argued Nichols is a stone cold killer who is trying to avoid a possible death penalty.
Do you agree with the verdict?

Brian Nichols got a fair trial; now we need to put him out of his misery as soon as possible. Like they say in the old cowboy movies: “give him a fair trial and hang him”!(by the way, I am a black man saying this)

Think we all will agree that this guy is guilty, but insane? I cannot believe that this manipulative SOB duped 12 people into this ‘guilty but insane’ verdict. But wait, what about the videotaped confession as proof of his insanity where he was waging a war against the government? Please, all this confession proved is that Nichols is a master manipulator who has used the system to spare his wasted and useless life.

Amazing… simply amazing. After allowing him 3 YEARS to exploit the system, at a cost of millions of dollars, the jury arrives at the exact same conclusion every other person in the area already knew. The guy is guilty as sin.
Now will somebody please jab a needle in his arm before we have to go through another waiting period for the sentencing phase?

I’m sure death will be the popular choice, which makes absolutely no sense. Death would be a gift to this man. Let him rot for the remaining decades of his life all alone with his thoughts. Put him in the general population. I’m sure a great deal of prison street cred could be obtained by knocking him off. Whatever. I’m tired of hearing about this clown. The death penalty will just bring more attention to him and delay any real healing. It is a failed experiment people and isn’t going to bring anyone back. It accomplishes nothing.

I can’t believe it took so long, for something we already know he did. While you can feel bad for his family, how must the other families of the victims feel. It should never have taken all this time to get the guilty verdict. That day affected us all in one way or another, I am glad justice has been served. Not to mention a change in procedures, so that it won’t happen again!!

Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! But, should the death penalty be decided upon, let’s not have any of this politically correct, touchy-feely garbage about avoiding “cruel & unusual” punishment…Really, do you think this subhuman was concerned about humane deaths when he brutally mowed down his innocent victims? “Ol’ Sparky” sounds just fine to me, but let’s drag it out & give him plenty of time to reflect on what he did as he is slowly frying.

I definitely think that his sentence is fair. This man is very smart and was able to fool a lot of people. He is definitely not insane. I am not sure that he should get life in prison but I am not sure about the death penalty. However, he did take lives therefore, it seems fair to take his. An eye for an eye. Please ignore Jane and Ron bc they are just ignorant and make no sense. There is no justification for someone taking another person’s life when they are innocent!!

Jane and Ron??? Are y’all kidding?? Y’all must be white trying to start some ignorant mess. The man is clearly a rapist and a murderer. He confessed and had multiple witnesses. Not every white person has been a slave owner or is prejudice. America has not been the only continent or country to have used slavery as a means to build a country. The Isrealites were held as slaves by Egyptians for nearly 400 years themselves..and oh, guess what….Egypt is in Africa…….make sure you know all history.

I agree w/ the verdict and am not excusing his actions, but I do think the situation is more complex than most people understand. Before the murders, Brian nichols faced 50 years in prison for a rape charge. He was charged with raping a woman whom he had had consensual sex with for 8 years. Again, I am not condoning his actions, but I think that rape is different if the people dated as opposed to a complete stranger. Furthermore, he did not beat or maim the woman whom he used to date( and who had begun an affair with their reverend). Also, while he was facing this ridiculuously excessive rape charge he was imprisoned in fulton county jail for a year in inhumane/overcrowded conditions. I believe tha man was treated like/felt like a caged animal and just snapped. I think the unfair system is as much to blame as nichols himself. Lastly, this system does not just screw black people (Jane). In fact, whites have it worse in fulton county jail than blacks because a vast majority of guards and officers and inmates are african. This unfair system is driven by monetary and ridiculous political reasons. The same thing could have happened to a white person put under such unduly stress

Why did we have to waste time and taxpayer money for a trial?? I’ll tell you why. Because of your precious death penalty people. This whole thing could have been over and done with a long long time ago. The defense offered a guilty plea for life in prison but DA Howard turned it down. There didn’t have to be a trial. But Howard wanted DEATH, no doubt because folks like you creating an angry mob everytime something like this happens. Well, you may well get what you want folks. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars later you’ll probably get your death penalty. I hope you’re happy. We wouldn’t have had to live through that horrible day all over again with a trial. We could have just locked him up, threw away the key, and MOVED ON. But noooooooo, that’s not enough. You wanted to see blood. Eye for an eye.
You got what you asked for. Quit whining about it.

Reparations to the black community? Yes, slavery was an abomination, but that does not excuse the cold blooded murder of 4 people 100 years later. Nichol’s is mad because of racism? Since when is “I’m mad” a justification for killing? Yes, racism and bigotry is an ugly trait that many of our citizens espouse, but that does not excuse the cold blooded murder of 4 people.

First, I would like to say that Judge Bodiford should be commended for his handling of this trial. Had he not taken the reins and brought all the lawyers under control, we would not have had a trial yet.
Second, in my mind, sex, age, race, upbringing, none of that is relevant. Simply stated, a human being killed four other human beings who had done nothing to harm him.
Third, we just accomplished an historic milestone by electing a bi-racial President. People who feel he would automatically pardon a murderer simply because the murderer is black, diminish the President-Elect and what we as a country accomplished this week.
Please judge each man on his own merits, don’t add to or take away from anyone simply by virtue of their race.

Nichols is no saint, but he did not have a chance at justice. The Media had already convicted him years before he got to the courtroom. Look, the guy was sexually abused as a child by his older brother for christ’s sake. His parents in effect abandoned him. He is the poster boy for a walking time bomb.
As a christain society, this guy should be given the help he has been needing all his life. By all accounts, he is very bright and talented. With help, he could lead a very productive life. Locking him away for life in the cesspool of a prison—or far worse, putting him to death—-is not the answer.
This is one brother that could change the way justice should be handed out in this country. He can be rehabilitated. I thought Nov. 4 ushered in a day in this country. What has happened in the last three days??????

I agree with the guilty verdict. He has had his day in court and was found guilty by a jury of his peers. The real tragedy here is the insufferable delays in bringing this to trial, and then the inevitable appeals forever. Nichols is a dangerous person who will stop at nothing to avoid incarceration.
I am not surprised that several posters had to play the “race” card. The makeup of the jury made their pathetic arguments a moot point.
My hope is the victims’ families and our community can move forward and close the book on this event.

Brian Nichols is guilty & a jury found him to be justly so. I’m not certain which punishment is more fitting & will bring him the most anguish - death almost seems to be a favorable solution to a life spent behind bars. Death is quick & if we are all pardoned in the afterlife, why should he get that reprieve? On the other hand, life in prison means the taxpayers are still paying for this demonic punk to breathe. I feel the best justice would be to allow the victims’ families to decide his fate. Either way - kill him or not, just do it quick. I am beyond sick of him already! The victims’ families deserve some closure.

I regret that Brian did not give the arresting officers a reason to blow him away the day he was arrested in Gwwinnett County or try something during the ride to the FBI office off of Clairmont.
Justice would have been served and a hell of a lot of money wwould have been saved.

Can you imagine the pressure placed on this jury to come back with a guilty verdict? If you were the one juror that wanted to find him guilty by reason of insanity and would not waiver to the pressure, you would have to leave the city after the trial. You would without a doubt be a target. Is that a fair trial?
Now everyone at the courthouse needs to be on their P’s & Q’s cause by the look in Nichol’s eyes in these pictures he’s just looking for the right moment to start the sequel.

At first I thought the death penalty would be great…but it would be better to put him away for life and let the other inmates have their fun with him. I’m sure that there is a Bubba that needs a new girl friend. Fitting justice for a rapist and murderer.

Some of you people are (I’m sorry and I do respect you but..) idiots. Why does it always have to be a black and white thing. The fact is he committed a terrible crime. If jail wasn’t so expensive I would say he deserves to stay in jail. But because it cost us so much I agree with the death penalty. Please fellow Americans, lets let go of this black and white thing and lets look at the bigger picture. Some of you people are so effing shallow.

I hate that the Fulton County lost so much money into this case. It was a lose lose situation for everyone. The victims, the jury members, the judge and the tax paying citizens. Some cases go without saying. JUST GUILTY…..

It’s people like Jane and Sara, typical Obama supporters that just want to make you puke! Good Grief, we have wasted enough time and taxpayer money. Light him up, and then let the MAN upstairs handle the rest. Hopefully, he has repented of his sins and asked for forgiveness, otherwise ole’ sparky is the least of his worries….
The Obama jab was in humor, it could be that they are rational thinking people, but I would bet money that they are both libs…..

SOB killed four people in broad daylight in front of many witnesses. Then he confessed to doing it. And it takes 3 friggin’ years and untold millions of taxpayers’ dollars to get a conviction!!!!!!!
WHAT AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!!
And we have people making excuses for him.
When a dog kills someone, we put the dog down right away. This SOB deserves no better. Should be taking a dirt nap by sundown tomorrow.

My feelings are for the families who suffered. There lives have been changed forever. Then, there are the tax-paying citizens of Georgia who funded this circus. I need the names of all the attorneys involved so that I don’t make the mistake of calling any of them if I ever need one. Brian Nichols is a monster. He killed innocent people. He needs to be put to death this evening!

Way to much time and money has been wasted on the piece of oxygen waster. Make him dig his own grave and put a bullet in his head. I am sure there would be an abundance of people willing to help him to hell.
