DNA clears relatives of JonBenet Ramsey

New DNA evidence has cleared relatives in the 1996 murder of young beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey.

Ramsey, 6, was found murdered in her family’s home in Colorado. Her parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, were hounded by suspicions - later widely dismissed - that they were involved in her death.

Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy said the tests point to an “unexplained third party.”

Lacy, who apologized to the family, says prosecutors don’t consider any member of the Ramsey family to be a suspect, according to the Associated Press.

Do you think investigators botched the case? Do you hold any hope this case can be solved?

Not only did they botch this case, how many other families may have suffered because the real killer went free. I really don’t see how this case will ever be solved.

Still trying to understand the “mock” ransom letter found in the mother’s purse… proven to be in her handwriting - as reported.

Remember. If any criminal activity happens to a member of your family, your entire family will be the prime suspects according to the police and the press and you will be haunted, abused, tortured, maligned, driven to bankruptcy and insanity because family is always suspected first. Even if you didn’t do it, you did it. The police and the press should be more than ashamed. A person ought to be able to file a lawsuit over this kind of thing.

This is a travesty, and the entire dismal case lies at the feet of the Boulder PD and their DA. For Pete’s sake, the child was murdered over 12 years ago!! SIX YEARS TO DETERMINE A DNA?? Patsy Ramsey went to her grave with this incompetence hanging over her head. And all the DA can say is ‘sorry’??!!! If I recall, the same DA tried to get a lot of free PR initially, and she did not have a case. As a minimum, believe that those in the Boulder PD who had a hand in the debacle, and the DA should be removed — not allowed to resign, but REMOVED! Some sort of signal needs to be sent that incompetence — and people’s lives — cannot be manipulated by incompetents — if you want confidence in the justice system! This should also be added to law and criminal justice textbooks regarding “WHAT NOT TO DO”! Believe this is also a suggestion that folks should be careful before moving to a LEFTIST COMMUNITY!!

That unidentified DNA might’ve been from the person who packaged her underwear. The fact that they found that there does NOT negate the possibility that one of the Ramsey’s did this.

This changes NOTHING in my mind. Patsy did this murder, IMO, and I still think it a tragedy that they are buried next to each other. It was the perfect crime.

Who cares? Let it go already. I am sure there are lots and lots of other unsolved murders in the past decade to care about instead of wasting time on this again and again.

…I saw them both in Flack’s Interiors in ‘01, not realizing who they were, but thinking, “creepy looking couple”… then I realized who it was. Sorry, Patsy, but if you weren’t really guilty, you sure as all hell looked it, acted like it, and did a lot of crazy sh-t, like a lunatic babyiller might do….

Wow, this really explians why the “ransom” note paper was from the Ramsey stock, why the handwriting on the “ransom” note matched patsy’s, why the diction/style of the note was phony, why the paint brush handle came from inside, why the pen used was patsy’s calligraphy pen. Yeah, one drop of “outside” DNA really lays to rest all those pesky clues. And, remember how QUICK John Ramsey and his pimps were to declare Johnny Karr GUILTY AS HELL? Yeah, this latest bit of incompetence & bribery really exonerates the loathesome & looney Ramsey family.

All they had to do was COOPERATE with the police during the original investigation. This would include taking a polygraph, to eliminate them as suspects. Any innnocent parent would have been glad to do it. What did they do?

They lawyered up and stone-walled the police.

Now the current DA wants to apologize? Something doesn’t add up here.

This case exemplifies the true meaning of incompetence. Someone should be fired over this decade of stupidity!

You don’t have to be a detective to know that Patsy Ramsey killed JonBenet. I actually thought she would confess on her death bed but she was a coward. The moron husband either helped her cover up the crime or was just too stupid to know she did it. How hard would it be to plant DNA on a murder victim to create the mysterious 3rd party? A truly sad sad story!

There are a number of logical explanations for the DNA, but none for the ransom note if it truly had been left by an “unexplained third party”. Why would a murderer leave a ransom note? Why would a kidnapper leave a body? The only logical conclusion is the Pat Ramsey wrote the note. Either she herself accidentally killed JonBenet while punishing her for wetting the bed, then wrote the note to avoid prison, or she wrote it to avoid getting the Worst Mother of All Time Award after Burke accidentally killed JB while molesting her.

Why would a murderer break in, kill, then write a ransom note? Or, why would a kidnapper break in, kill, write a ransom note, then leave the body? Both questions defy logic. The only logical conclusion then is that Pat Ramsey wrote the note herself to cover her (or perhaps her son’s) misdeed. The DNA can be explained in a number of ways, not the note. Patricia Ramsey was not innocent. Case Closed.

Don’t have too much sympathy for the Ramsey’s. After all, it was them who refused to cooperate with police in their attempt to eliminate them from suspicion (have we forgotten). If the Ramsey’s were less elitist the police could have moved on years ago.

The Ramsey’s are still suspects. The media didn’t botch this case. This is simply a case of rich people getting away with murder. Why on earth would a little girl be downstairs from her family during the holidays and nobody notices. I believe the Ramsey’s are responsible for the death of this child. I am sicken by this case. It truly disturbes me that the responsible parties are in jail. Who else would have done it? ………………………………………………….

Little JonBenet has been dead now for 12 years. it doesn’t take that long to get DNA results. This will go down in history as another unsolved case, just like Nicole Simpson and Bonnie Blakely.

There are lots of people wrongfully convicted who could be cleared with DNA testing. It is confusing to me why it is so difficult and expensive to get a test. Just the involved legal allowance needed for testing is ridiculous. Please take a look at this horrific situation at FREEPAULCORTEZ.ORG. Can you imagine any other profession being allowed to deny a person the rights guaranteed supposedly by our constitution?

Voice of Reason,

Get over it and Let it go. They were found to have no involvement in their daughter’s murder, but people like you still harp on it.

JJMB,

A person has the right to consult with and hire an attorney. Does that deem them a criminal and/or guilty? Where is it written that hiring a lawyer is illegal? The cops were desperate to find a killer and close this case. Unfortunately, they drug the Ramsey’s through the mud for all of these years and committed horrible mistakes in the process.

If this can happen to a wealty family, God forbid what would happen to someone who does not have the resouces to hire effective counsel.

Longhorn,

This may be “drivel” to you, but this case highlights the still existent flaws in our so called system of justice that need to be fixed.

talk about irresponsible journalism - the AJC is claiming that “…DNA evidence clears relatives of JonBenet Ramsey…” - this is not necessarily true - the PROSECUTORS cleared the family - the DNA evidence is merely a by-product - the Ramsey’s may still be as culpable as all get-out - these new findings provide a convenient smoke-screen for the prosecution to hide behind - anyone who believes that the Ramsey’s were forthcoming and cooperative and totally innocent is naive beyond words

If the Ramseys had co-operated with the authorities at the time of their daughter’s death, instead of running off and refusing to help, the case might have been solved during the crucial early stages of the case. I’m sorry for the child and her siblings, having such parents. As for the parents, they share the blame almost as much as the person who committed it - for aiding and abetting.

The dectectives in this case screwed things up in this case with their stupidity. They need to investagate anyone who knew the Ramseys. They need to interview everybody who came to that Christmas party and anyone who has ever came into the house to do any kind of work there. The killer knew that house. He came into her room and took her from her bed to the basement, that being a huge home would have to have been there before. They need to look into anyone who worked on their home and see if they had a criminal record. They need to start over and do it right this time. Now they have DNA evidence to use.

On the Dec. morning of this little girls death I was watching TV news. It had snowed 2 inches and the Ramsey house had police and news media around. A reporter scanned the yard and stated there were no foot prints in the snow!! The windows on house were bared.
