Lucky—and you certainly are. You are a cute pup and you did not deserve the cruelty which was inflicted on you. May you heal fast and hopefully, the individual(s) who did this to you will be found and punished to the fullest extent. Our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery are with you.

While I am not a fan of pit bulls I am way less of a fan of people who abuse animals.
I hope Lucky pulls through and get a nice, nurturing, PEACEFUL home (with no kids around).
And whoever did this…man, it better have been because you were attacked because I see nothing else that justifies sticking a knife through another living creature….

How embarrassing this is for the human race! My hopes are that Lucky gives light, love and companionship for years to come. If everyone can just remember —there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad dog owner! (Or neighbor, as the case may be.)

They say that certain ones will burn a little hotter down there, and I believe that the person that did this to such a precious animal, any animal for that, will definately be a little warmer than others. Lucky, my family, that includes our 5 pits, are sending you lots of love, hugs and doggie kisses. You are in our prayers, and if for some reason you are called to Rainbow Bridge, you will find an awesome playmate named Lola that was called away last Thursday. Be strong, stay pretty, and know that lots and lots of folks and furbabies are pulling for you.

Lucky,
Hang in there sweetheart. It amazes me how no matter how badly pit bulls are treated by the human race, that they continue to love us unconditionally. Despite what the world says, pit bulls are nothing more than babies wrapped in fur. My thoughts are with you Lucky and I hope they find this monster that did this to you.

Dear Lucky, Wishing you a speedy recovery from your traumatic experience. Humans can be a very nasty breed sometimes, but there are others whom we can trust wholeheartedly!! You are “lucky” that us pitbulls have a hard head…hehe!! Take it easy and you will be chewing big meaty bones in no time.. Much love, Your Aussie Woofer Mate, Gary (APBT)

People must remember dogs behavior just as they have been taught. Blame people but not the dogs. All Pit bills are not mean. Judging Lucky’s situation, I say the person who committed this act against another living being need to be put to sleep.

Glad you are doing well, but I wonder what really happened….where is your owner, and why didn’t the vet that you were originally taken to take care of you? Instead that vet left you with the knife in your head and let the Humane Society take you? If I were the cops I would want to talk with your owner…and I would like to know who the vet was and his hospital….so I can make sure I never give him my business. You will do fine now, and someone out here will love you dearly.

Having a friend who rescued a very sweet, loving pit bull it makes me sich to hear things like this. Why aren’t are animal cruelty laws harsher especially considering situations like this? I don’t think a jury would have any trouble convicting someone who committed this horrendous crime! All my love and prayers to this poor, innocent dog. One day the sicko who did this will have to answer for his crime, and I wish I could live to see that.

Congratulations Lucky, you’re on your way to a brand new life without cruelty and pain.
Thank you to all who have worked on and with this baby girl. Ashanti, thank you for caring for her. This kind of nastiness is just the tip of the iceberg. What we never get to see, prevent, and prosecute is many times those we do see.
May Heavenly Father help these good folk make a difference in Lucky’s life as well as as many others as can be found.
I pray for all of the animals that fall victim to this brutality.

Why are we wishing a dog good luck? Why don’t we see this many responses for all the sick and injured humans in the hospital? This is a shame.
Lucky, let this be a lesson for all dog owners. Let your dog out of your control, and this could be YOUR animal. I think the dog owner should be fined and imprisoned for letting the dog out of his control.

But, I know you by your nature and know that no matter what, you will always be loyal and kind to the likes of me, even when we don’t deserve it. These days we are hearing more and more stories similiar to yours. It makes me wonder, God must have not been thinking when he granted man “civilized” status. For there is nothing civilized about many of us.

Lucky,
I hope that you pull through this ok and the sick person that did this to you is caught and jailed for this horrible act of cruelty. Anyone that can harm a helpless animial like this should be put away forever.
You and all animals that suffer abuse will be in my prayers.

i’m not a pet owner, but this is one of the most cruel and sickening things i have seen done on an animal. how can anyone be so evil?

Hi Lucky! I’ve read all the get well wishes that you have already received, and I hope you can feel all the love that is being poured out to you. I imagine the line of people who want to adopt you is already forming. I hope and pray that people are screened extremely carefully to make sure that you next home is your best and forever home, with unconditional love and lots of attention. As one person already mentioned, what happened to you is just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately. It is just pure evil, plain and simple. I have been owned by pits in the past, and you are absolutely wonderful, loving companions with a delightful sense of humor. The fact that you have the most wonderful, sweet kisses may be one of the world’s best kept secrets. Hang in there, girl! Wear your scar with pride, to remind us all of what you have overcome.

Does anyone who paid or will pay for the surgery? I would like to donate some money towards the surgery?
Is this dog adoptable? I am interested in adopting her.
Thanks..

Sweet Little Lucky Girl, I’m so sorry you had to suffer through such abuse at the hands of a human being. Not all of us are evil. I’m just thankful someone was caring enough to bring you to the AHS for surgery. I pray you have a speedy recovery and will live the rest of your life with someone who will love you as you deserve. My dog Henry says, “Be Well and Rest Easy.” He’s part pit bull and looks a lot like you. Maybe you’re cousins!

Sometimes I despair for the future of the human race, that it continues to torture, maim, kill and twist the personalities of those animals in this world that love us best and forgive us the most. Only a very sick, sick individual could do this type of thing and society must be protected from them. God loves you Lucky and so do many of the good people in this world. Get well and I pray that you will be blessed with a family that will love and protect you as you deserve.

It is a shame that a person would mis- treat any animal in such a manner. But, I can tell you from personal experience that pit bulls are not the sweet, love- able animals some people make them out to be. They are highly dangerous and will jump you in a heart-beat, for no reason whatsoever, except that you happen to be where they are. Most people get them so they can say they have a pit bull for home “protection”, which is okay if they are in a fenced area, with the appropriate “dangerous dog” sign up. Luckily, this county has a leash law, and a dog catcher to back it up.

Best wishes for Lucky’s speedy recovery. The really lucky one will be the person who adopts her. I reared three kids with pits - never had anyone bitten, and none ever started a fight or showed any aggressive traits. Of all our dogs these were the sweetest, most loyal, and most affectionate - one even saved my wife from a bull that had her on the ground.
Lucky’s assault is a prime example of what can result from misplaced mass hysteria about a breed of dog. Some ignorant person has decided to punish this dog not for what she is, but what their perception of her breed is. Brutes like those surrounding your ex-quarterback help perpetuate that image. Punish them, not the dogs.

To James Etheridge … I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with a pitt bull. I am a pitt bull owner. She’s every bit as sweet as my lab mixes. I’ve only been bitten by one dog in my 50 years. A white standard size poodle … I don’t dislike all poodles. A Jack Russell terrier nearly chewed the foot off a newborn in east Georgia last year. Lots of stories. Unfortunately only those involving this breed seem to warrant front page news. This is truly a heartbreaking story. Makes me sick to my stomach.

I agree! A front seat in hell to the ones who abuse animals, such as the hideous people who are involved in dog fighting. Lucky you are in the hands of good people now, I pray for your recovery and a happy home in the future. Pits are so misunderstood. I just don’t understand why some people are so filled with hate & need to take it out on innocent animals and children.

Thank you for saving this beautiful pup.

Dear Lucky-you are truely lucky! We are here to tell you that most humans are not like whomever did this horrid thing to youand it is not your fault. We are 3 of the happiest dog (beaten, shot and abandoned)and 2 cats (one baby left in a window-well in infancy, the other left declawed to fend for himself in a busy urban area) from various rescue situations and YOU WILL BE ONE ALSO! The best of the best to you. Our mom says that you will find a kind and loving home like we did. Go girl!

Pitbulls are wonderful, loving, and loyal dogs. I own two and it is very clear to me how big of hearts they have. Do not look at the breed, look at the owners! You train dogs to behave the way you want them to, so if a dog is acting aggressively, look at the owners! Lucky, I hope you get well soon! What an amazing strong dog you are!

I’ve had some bad experiences with pits too but I firmly believe it’s all in the upbringing. I’m very glad to see Lucky is doing better, and I hope she recovers fully and goes to a good home. It really crushes me to see the true evil in the hearts of mankind. I can only hope that the person responsible pays their tremendous restitution in this life or the next. They deserve much pain and suffering for this cruel and senseless act.

I feel criminal charges need to be brought against the owner, seeing that they have not come forward. I think that is a sign of guilt. That was a graphic picture of the knife in the head. How would the owner feel if it was in his head? It looks deliberate. On a lighter note, Who is the covergirl from the humane society caring for Lucky? He is a lucky dog.

Denise- There is the same compassion towards the things you name: child molestation, terrorist and illegal immigrants - They are all horrible and need to be stopped. However, this Blog section of the AJC is for a dog. If a child was turned in with a knife stabbed into their head, of course there would be outrage.

Do you people realize this is a dog and it can not read? Also, did you not see the report that this dog was running loose with another dog terrorizing the neighborhood (something the AJC keeps leaving out of the story). This is a Pit Bull. The knife very well might have been in self defense. Do you all forget the little old Korean women that was attacked in Roswell a month ago??? It had to be shot to get it off of her. I for one would not want “Lucky” moving in next door to me. AHS had better be care with the adoption of this dog.

YOU KNOW IT IS A SHAME THAT THESE SO MISREPRESENTD BREED OF DOGS CAN’T GO TO COURT AND FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS TO SURVIVE LIKE THEIR ABUSERS GET TO DO. WHOEVER DID THIS SHOULD BE PUNISHED IN SPADES, MAYBE BY LETTING SOMEONE DO THE SAME THING TO HIM OR HER IN RETURN. PIT BULLS ARE NO DIFFERENT FROM A LAB, OR YOUR KIDS FOR THAT MATTER. THEY LEARN WHAT THEY ARE TAUGHT, AND THEY HAVE LITTLE DEFENSE AGAINST THEIR HUMAN SO CALLED PROTECTORS. PEOPLE THAT ABUSE ANIMALS SHOULD SUFFER THEIR OWN TYPE OF PUNISHMENT, BUT LIKE SO MANY CHILD MOLESTORS AND ABUSERS, SADLY THEY WILL NOT BE PUNISHED AND WILL GO ON TO ABUSE AGAIN. MAYBE ALL OF OUR SO-CALLED HIGH POWERED OFFICIALS SHOULD DO A LOT MORE TO PROTECT OUR INNOCENT ANIMALS AAS WELL AS OUR CHILDREN. IF IT LANDS ON THERE OWN DOORSTEP THEN MAYBE THEY WILL WILL SEE THE NEED TO GIVE A LOT STIFFER PUNISHMENTS TO THE DEGENERATES THAT SO EASILY ABUSE AND HURT INNOCENT VICTIMS. BUT , AS WITH MY ADOPTED SON, I WON’T BE SITTING AROUND HOLDING MY BREATH FOR ANYTHING TO CHANGE. NEITHER SHOULD YOU.

Rest assured you will get your day because “every dog has their day”.
Sooner or later the person that did this will end up with me and I just wanted you to know that instead fo a hunting knife, I’ll use my pitchfork upon his or her buttocks before really turning up the heat on them.
I know that we both have a bad reputation but mine is probably more deserved than yours.

Humans have always both amazed, fascinated and disgusted me. Of course, it is a sad and pathetic individual who would do something of this horrific nature to a helpless animal. However, many of those same people showing so much horror and sadness for a four legged creature are the same ones who, when innocent civilians are stragged and mega-ton bombs are dropped on them, killing innocent men, women and children, you will be the first to say “THIS IS WAR! Innocent people die in war!” Or you will blame the stresses of war when an equally sick and twisted individuals would rape and murder a fourteen year and kill her entire family to make it appear the enemy “insurgents” did it! Some of you are just as sad as the individual(s) who plunged that knife into the head of a helpless four legger.

Just read your story Lucky. Please don’t hold how you were hurt against us as a human race. You, as much as anyone, know that breeds (to include humans) are products of thier environment. You must have been raised well, with love, so hopefully, you will find that again. There is a pit bull across the street (female - Bailey) who runs across the street every time she sees me come home. Sits, actually smiles for me while I pet her and then runs back home. So, I know that there are good pit bulls. Get well soon. YOU pick out who you want to go home with!
