What’s next for Vick, Falcons?

We’re re-opening commenting on the Michael Vick indictment. Today, we want to ask, what do you think the Falcons will do?

Should they ride the legal storm out, hoping their $130-million quarterback can avoid jail time and a long-term NFL suspension? Is the investment too great to simply cut bait?

Or is it time to move on, and with whom as quarterback? Joey Harrington? Dante Culpepper?

Comments that don’t violate ajc.com’s Visitor Agreement will be posted.

It is sad that Vick’s career could possibly be over like this. I have to wonder if he knew this was a felony crime. Whether he did or didn’t know he will still have to face the consequences for this if he is found guilty. What now for the Falcons?

I hope the guy is thrown under the jail if the charges prove true. The scale of the operation he was reportedly running is sickening. And, guys, just a bit of simple marketing advice: if you’re going to open a dog fighting business, you might want to come up with a less ironic name than “Bad News Kennels”.

I am not surprised at this given Vick’s actions in recent years. He seemed a rather nice young man when he came to Atlanta but has gone downhill ever since. Is he guilty? I would think probably so. Will he be conviced? I hope so if he is guilty but high priced legal help will drag it on for years. Will he go to jail? I doubt it. Unfortunately, animal cruelty cases rarely bring the sentences they deserve. I realize this is not legally an animal cruelty indictment but rather gambling and some other charges but I do hope the jury in the long run takes the cruelty aspect into consideration in the sentencing. What about the Falcons? Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a d**n since I am a Saints fan but it is just another case of a Falcon acting like a thug.

Considering that the court of public opinion (or those that just look for any excuse to spout hate against him) will convict Vick whether he’s guilty or not…I’d say his career is in serious jeopardy at this point. The team could be screwed whether he plays or not. They will be distracted within the organization as well as having to deal with disruptive hateful & nasty football fans everywhere they go.

Just finished reading the sickening 18 page indictment. If you haven’t read it-go on, read it….and you too will be sickened!

Even if ONE TENTH of it is true, Vick and his little sick posse should be subjected to some of the lovely treatment these animals endured. “Rape stands,” electrocution, execution via shotguns…’training’ and the testing of animals to see if they were agressive enough-it’s all spelled out.

Talk about self-destructive people. Greed will get you every time….I guess making millions playing a game wasn’t good enough.

Read the indictment. Vick is a complete embarrassment!

By Mike

Not sure what the outcome will be. If he is guilty I hope that he gets what he deserves. It is a shame that people with the celebrity status…ie OJ, Michael Jackson, Heatly, Martha Stewart, and countless politicians do not get the same treatment by our justice system as the ordinary people. As far as what it means for the Falcons only time will truly tell. I am sure that Harrington is not the answer. Many of the Schaub faithful will come out, but I still feel that trading him was the right thing. He may end up being great, who knows…but they got a lot for an unproven QB. If Vick is indeed found guilty and does time, it will set the Falcons back a bit due to salary cap implications. McKay will definitely have to earn his money, and be quite creative with contracts the next couple of years. You will probably see some of the higher paid guys that don’t produce as much any more…ie Brooking and possibly Dunn walk after this season in favor of younger talent that is a little easier on the wallet. What ever happens I am still excited about the future of Atlanta with the young talent that they have brought in. I hope in camp and preseason they are just going to automatically make Harrington the next guy in line behind Vick. I believe Shokley deserves a shot. I think he would surprise a lot of people.

Tony, Vick is accused of killing like 8 dogs. To me killing a dog is just as bad as killing a human. Heck, dogs are more valuable than most humans anyway. I hope Vick gets the electric chair if he’s convicted.

Vick is in a bad situation, but he put himself there with the kinds of associate s he chooses to hang with. He is doomed if he wins this year because the NFL will want him out. If he has a losing season, the Atlanta fans will want him out. Either way, he will no longer be the QB in town after this year. Too bad for someone with so much talent. Playing in another city will be far better than the worse scenario———IN JAIL!!!!

…internet ate my post!…

Here it goes again:

If even ONE TENTH of the indictment is true, Vick and company deserve to be treated (or mistreated, as the case may be) as the dogs were.

Benoit was total scum; Vick is only marginally better, as he abused and killed DOGS.

Read the indictment-it is truly SICKENING. And…it’s truly hard to believe that the indictment was influenced by “public opinion.” Sometimes law enforcement does get it right…let’s hope this time is one of them!

By MacKenzie

Tony, are you serious?

Mr. Blank,

I am all for innocent until proven guilty but your actions shouldn’t wait for the judicial system. Your jury is the fan base and we like to associate ourselves with people of good moral character. You do not have that in Mr. Vick. Off the field he has let us down time and time again. You can either choose to rid the organization of him or we can force you to do it with our purchasing power. How unfortunate for Michael Vick and Atlanta. If I was Mr. Blank, suspend Vick for conduct detrimental to the team, save the money, go get Dante Culpepper, quick, who is a lot cheaper. Get out front of this. Who can complain, the League, the Player’s Association? Although Innocent until proven Guilty, a Federal Indictment hanging over one of the most important pieces of the team is not good. How long will this take to play out? How can Mike have his head in the game when he could possibly be looking at Federal time? And if the charges are true, WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING? What a waste!!

Even though I am not a Falcons fan and do cheer against them I must say that as for a fan this really hurts to see your star player, role model be indicted on charges on animal cruelty. First I must say that the racial stuff needs to stop. This has nothing to do with him being of color it’s just plain and simple that there are facts that Vick was involved in something legal and has been indicted. I have two dogs and just the idea of what i have read on the indictment charges is sickening. If i were a Vick fan I would throw away anything of his. This is a shame to the wonderful city of Atlanta, to the fans, Mr. Blank, the NFL, kids who look up to him, and to the sports world. Regarding the “hating on Vick B.S.” —- Vick stepped in dog poop, tracked it through the club house, up to the front office —- indeed, right into Mr. Blank’s office.

It’s a helluva way to treat a man who made him wealthy beyond imagination —-who gave him chance after chance from giving the finger to the Atlanta fans (customers) to the airport fiasco and now to the thug lifestyle of fighting and killing dogs.

It’s just un-freakin’- believable that he would throw it away, but then again, some have said all along that he really wasn’t too smart.

You can’t expect your new coach (who I like) to field a team with this hanging over them. Look, many of you are not true Falcon Fans. I was raised in the state, and I cheered for the ‘Dirty Birds’! Once I enlisted in the Military, the Falcons came with me too! Mike Vick has said that he rarely (and let me reinterate that) rarely visited that house. Mike bought the house for a realitive. Let him speak, ok! Mike is a dependable guy. He doesn’t cower behind other people. He is a leader. Yes I am aware that Mr. Petrino is a little ticked off, but he is like his boss, so he has a right. In the military, police departments, any job, if you are accused of something, you have to fight your way out of that! Mike Vick will prove to everyone that he isn’t who everyone thinks he is. He is a leader. A champion. A friend. Let him have his chance to lead and defend himself.

And everyone is saying that he set the Falcons back 10 years. Yeah right. The Falcons are called the ‘Dirty Birds’. We fight! We win! If anyone should be blamed for what happened in the past it is MORA! We will overcome this obstacle then throw it back at the people who accuse of this. This is pathetic. You don’t have no one else to blame, so you have to attack someone who is trying to make a name for himself!

Read the entire indictment, particularly item 83. Vick is directly involved up to his neck. Anyone who defends this behavior just because he’s the QB of the Falcons ought to do time as well just to figure being a member of the human race is about.

I don’t think Vick will be convicted. Court is not about justice, it’s about which side has the highest paid lawyers and wins the debate contest.

But I hope everyone boycotts everything about the Falcons as long as they employ a dog fighter. The national press is going to savage not only the Falcons, but our city’s image and businesses will suffer as well.

For all of you pointing to the Duke Lacross case here are some clear differences… (1) there was hard evidence and eyewitness testimony that exonerated the Duke players. With Mike Vick we have the opposite, eyewitnesses with hard evidence in the form of money used to fund this operation. (2) Everyone presumed those “rich” Duke players were guilty from the beginning including a dirty prosecutor. Here the impotent Surrey County DA refused to do his job and looked the other way to protect Vick.

Folks, these are serious crimes. The indictment provides clear detail about not just a couple of disorganized dog fights, but a systematic plan over years to purchase dogs, breed them, torture them and use them for gambling on a piece of property that was specifically designed and modified for DOG FIGHTING!!! Even if you don’t think dog fighting is a big deal, going to this level to finance an operation which is illegal is a big deal.

I was willing to give Vick the benefit of the doubt when it was possible that his family simply took his money and abused his trust, but not any more. These allegations are disgusting. Being a good athelete does not excuse such sadistic behavior.

MR BLANK - PAY ATTENTION TO THESE COMMENTS - ALL FALCONS FANS WITH ANY SENSE OF DECENCY WILL NOT STEP FOOT INTO THE GA DOME UNTIL MICHAEL VICK IS GONE - AND HE CAN TAKE BABINEUX WITH HIM TOO

Having been an abused wife, years ago, I feel like I can answer this. Abused wives choose to stay in or exit their situation.

Did these dogs have the same choice? (and yes, I’m a vegetarian.)

I don’t want Vick to be hanged in public. But I would think it only fitting for him to be subjected to some of the things he subjected these animals to. Since you obviously don’t think Vick did anything wrong, I would think this would be agreeable to you, yes?

I am, for one, relieved by this turn of events. Being a Bulldogs fan, I can rest well knowing that DJ Shockley will be leading the birds no later than mid-season 2009. Talk about a character guy, He’s accessible, incredibly athletic and he’s a leader. DJ Shockley won the SEC championship in his only year as a starter-against one of toughest teams in college sports. Shockley can run, pass and learn a thick playbook. He’s smart and a gentleman. Get ‘em, DJ!

being indicted is not proof of guilt! certainly his actions and recent events leave room for doubt. But we need to see what they actually have on him and see how the trial goes. If he is found guilty then he deserves what gets. He really has been pretty stupid about a lot of things. But I wouldhate to convict him on public opinion and then find out that he really was innocent. Time will tell>

Vick will never take another snap in the NFL. An ESPN columnist nailed this about a month ago. Once the Federal authorities executed a search warrant, an action that the local authorities were reluctant to do against a local hero, Vick’s fate was sealed. Department of Agriculture, IRS, and FBI were involved. There was a brand new Federal Law that addressed dog fighting.

I was a great fan of Vick’s. I loved to watch him play. He was a rare talent. Too bad he is such an idiot.

By The Facts -- Vick Most Likely Guilty

July 17, 2007 9:13 PM | Link to this

Vick is most likely guilty folks. That’s the reality of the situation. The fact of the matter is that the Feds have over a 95% conviction rate when they bring charges. If the feds bring indictments, it’s because they have overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that shows a person committed a criminal act. The Feds simply have way too many fish to fry and other things to worry about to waste their time on any case that has flimsy or questionable evidence. The Feds will only bring charges if they are nearly 100% certain that they will get a conviction if the case goes to trial.

wishing vick to die and burn in hell? Did he molest some children. People like this are the extremist, like those Christian groups who kill themselves because of a meteor or those crazy muslims who think they are promissed 1000 virgins upon killing someone in a suicide bombing. Most people believe that this is wrong if Vick did it but the 5% extremist on both ends of the spectrum turns this into a racial issue. All it takes is one estremist from either side then reasonable thinking goes out the window. Side note: These dogs were not breed to be friendly, they were created to fight. Look at the history

Mr. Blank is a 100% class act. Michael Vick is a huge embarrassment for him and to the Falcon organization. Unless Vick performs beyond his past accomplishments, he will be traded before the season ends. It’s not a question of his guilt, but by the shame he brings to the Falcons. He should be traded before the season starts, but Mr. Blank will hang on to him until his guilt is established.

To do the things alleged in the indictment takes a special kind of evil. It denotes lack of conscience and soul. Although this is only an indictment, not a conviction, the federal prosecutors are NOT Mike Nifong. Somehow I think that they may have their act a little more together than that clown. If you’re waiting for action from the Falcons or the NFL, keep waiting. Neither Roger Goddell nor Arthur Blank has the ball$ to do anything until the courts work things out. **The Vick story is definately taking a turn for the worse. I heard the story on my way home today and people in Atlanta are pretty indicative of the people across the country when it comes to Mike Vick. You either love him or hate him. He is probably the most polarizing figure in sports not named Barry Bonds. But the thought of that is rather perplexing. It’s easy to understand why so many people are divided on Bonds, he is portrayed as a selfish, me first, cheater who will do anything to put himself before his team.

But the Vick dynamic is different. The minute Vick took over for a struggling Chris Chandler he was both revered and detested by the Atlanta fanbase. It was difficult to comprehend initially because the Falcons franchise had little success during their history, and you would think that a potential star would be just what the doctor ordered. But Vick would not conform to mainstream society. He sported the traditional cornrows, eccentric jewlery, baggy clothes, and embraced the urban look. He represented the marginalized, the undervalued, and the underrepresented members of society. Despite Vick’s early success, dramatic playoff win at Lambeau Field, trip to the NFC championship, pro-bowl, consecutive sell-outs, games no longer being blacked out, season ticket waiting list, and record revenue from luxury boxes and sponsors. Many of the fans would not embrace the “new” face of the franchise.

Vick represents a threat to the “traditional” quarterback. Football has been dominated by two traits, Speed and Strength. The quarterback position is the only position where an average athlete can overcome his lack of speed and strength with intelligence. A receiver can’t overcome his lack of speed with intelligence. A lineman can’t overcome his lack of stength with intelligence. But a high school football coach can groom his son to be a quarterback though preparation and repetition. It’s the only position that is an equal opportunity employer. If you didn’t inherit superior speed, or incredible size and strength you still had hope. Because a smart player can still succeed at the quarterback position. Vick threatened the way the position is played and if the game evolves to the dual threat quarterback then many will be excluded from the sport.

So it is only natual for some people to not appreciate his style of play. Although his passing statistics were not eye popping, he still found ways to win games. And perhaps he’ll find a way to eluse his next obstacle and continue to revolutionize the quarterback position**.

Jim Mora, Sr was spot on when he called his son’s quarterback a “coach killer”. The only one in this whole situation who made out well is Jim Mora, Jr- former Falcons head coach- who got out while the getting was good. Mike Vick and his brother have been coddled since high school. They are brilliant athletes but they lack that one thing that makes people not crazy.

I just noticed the question being asked of this blog. I think the next part of the saga involves Vick playing a tense season this year and being suspended next summer. It will take at least a year to play out.

Pamela,

I don’t see how this relates to the Duke Lacrosse case. They threw those kids under the bus at the very beginning. The Feds and local authorities have been treating this case with kid gloves for the last few months before indicting Vick. This isn’t some knee jerk reaction. They must have some fairly decent evidence against Vick if they are going to prosecute him. That doesn’t mean he will be convicted, but its a bad sign that he was indicted to begin with. You may be right that the fans are rushing to judgement, but animal cruelty is a very polarizing issue. Its the gruesome details of Vick executing dogs that have set off this firestorm. Mr. Vick better invest a huge portion of his signing bonus for the best law team in the country.

Not a very good quarterback and apparently not a particularly good human being either. He really has not done much for this team on the field and now he is causing it great harm off the field. If he plays another down in Atlanta, I have bought my last ticket. If you think the Fed’s are mean wait until you team plays in front of thousands of barking fans. I can understand standing behind your player when he takes a water bottle through a security gate with a false bottom. I can understand saying nothing while he is being sued by woman for god only knows what. I can understand standing by you man when he does not appear before congress or flips off the world but… The sum of the events are now not only embarrising to your team but to a city. I have no doubt that your team will suffer without the services of a star but this star is now sheding light on all the things that are bad and nothing comes to mind that is good cut your losses and if that team goes 0-16 I will be there but if you allow this self centered person back on your field, you will never get another dime from me….

Three Points:

  • Mike Vick is absolutely innocent until proven guilty — under our rule of law. That does not mean the NFL cannot take action against him to protect its image, nor does it mean the Falcons can’t act to cut their losses. The reality is that this is just the culmination of several Vick acts which have made the NFL and the Falcons look bad. He doesn’t have to be convicted — the damage has already been done.

  • The Feds are a whole different ball game. When you get indicted by a federal grand jury, you’re usually sol. A lot of people thought Bill Campbell would get by free and clear. He just lost his appeal a couple of days ago. Look at Scooter Libby (maybe Vick should send a nice fat check to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and put in the memo line “please pardon me.”)

  • Several people have said that Vick’s done nothing wrong according to the indictment, just conspired with people and that’s not a crime. WRONG! Anybody who conspires with others to commit unlawful acts are as guilty as those who committed the criminal acts. The indictment shows that Mike was involved in these atrocious acts from day one.

  • By that's funny

    By JWes

    July 17, 2007 9:41 PM | Link to this

In my view, both those who equate animal cruelty with the murder of human beings and those who say it’s “no big deal” are missing the point. The cruelty is disturbing, but there’s another issue. What kind of person enjoys watching dogs kill each other? A soul profoundly troubled and troubling is revealed. Perhaps Vick will be shown to be innocent. I don’t know. In the meantime, I suppose it’s the rest of us who will be shown for what we are by how we respond to this. Will we schedule a stoning or excuse senseless cruelty? I hope we will defend what is good and decent and reject what is cruel and vindictive.

As a football fan, however, I also have to admit that, barring some amazing revelation of character I haven’t seen so far, I really won’t follow the Falcons with any enthusiasm at all as long as #7 is the quarterback. Talent isn’t enough.

Hello! I was not aware that Vick was the team! We all knew this was coming; the only surprise was it took so long. I believe in the Falcons Franchise. I have supported the team for 25 years and seen the Falcons victories and defeats. Mr. Blanc has more than one talented player. The Falcons season does not rest on one player, hence the word ‘team’ comes into play. The good thing in all of this is that the children see that no one is above the law. Vick appears to have made a very serious mistake and now the repercussions of those bad decisions have to be answered. As a high school teacher, I see this as a reality check for all the future Michael Vicks’ out there.

Sadly, it would appear the immediate Vick family, Marcus included are troubled. Marcus displayed his sportsmanship or more accurately lack there of, by viciously stomping on the leg of Louisville’s All American defensive end Dumis (sic?)Dummerville on national television in front of millions of viewers during the Gator Bowl, then denied he did it. Mike has exhibited similar unacceptable behavior with the similar denials. One must wonder if this behavior was tolerated or perhaps ignored at V.Tech, the price of big time collegiate football some programs are willing to pay. One also must wonder what may have been if both Mike and Marcus were surrounded by true mentors and role models in college as opposed to those that apparently just looked the other way.

Quit abusing this young man and push him toward understanding his mistake.

I would be willing to bet the Feds would not get involved unless there was some merit to this story. If Vick is found guilty, I hope all the kids who have admired him will also take notice when he is punished. “Be Like #7 Mike” of the Falcons should be seen as a way NOT to be, a way to fall from grace, and not the type of person to look up to. Kids - go to school, get a job, know that you have to answer for your actions. Even if you are a talented athelete!

The Michael Vick episode of extreme cruelty to companion animals will be, as before, excused by the fanatical, money above all, sports enterprise known as Virginia Tech football and the VT administrators who nourish and condone such “excuses” for the benefit of the Hokie community. Remember April 16th, when 32 innocent people, students and faculty, were gunned down as they were engaging in the real purpose of a university - education? The University administration waited two and one-half hours after two students were shot to death, with the shooter on the loose, until they took “action”…closed the campus. Now the University says it made no mistake in waiting those hours to warn the innocents…which tells me that they will do the same thing under similar circumstances. Mr. Blank, unlike Virginia Tech administrators, should admit his mistake and get rid of Michael Vick, before more innocent animals die so that Mike can have fun.

It is a sad day in Atlanta. Our hopes and dreams of holding our heads high when it comes to pro football are dashed, once again. This time because of things that happened away from the playing field. It proves something some college football coaches have been saying for years, “Look for personal character and talent. Skills can be taught. But character is a choice. You have to want it and work for it every bit as hard or harder as you do to win on the field.” MV, If these things prove to be true, I hope you will take a few dollars of your millions and get some much needed help. It might be the best money you ever spend. It might salvage your life and make it worthwhile and meaningful. My prayers are with you… I pray for your best in the days ahead, on or off the field. It’s not looking good for Vick and especially the Falcons. Lets hope that Harrington/Shockley of whoever McKay can find can pick up the slack. Lord knows the fan base needs something to look forward to. The media frenzy surrounding this case was killing his image and the indictment now has it on life support. Vick needs to learn from this incident and grow as a man from it. He also needs to realize that you can’t take anything for granted especially your livelihood. He had it all at his fingertips and he’s letting it slip away. I hope that he’s not convicted but from reading those documents, he may not escape unscathed.

    It’s truly disgusting.

I think the Government in Virginia is on a witch hunt to smear Michael Vick’s name. If Michael Vick had not own the home in Virginia, and the Government had information just on the 2 other suspects. This case would not get the attention it is being given. The Government of Virginia wanted a big name, and that name is Michael Vick. They know he can pay any fines imposed. You have dog fighting rings all over the South. There have been several in Georgia, and I have not heard the Humane Society speaking out against them. I think it is Racial. Billy Bob and his friends having dog fights in their back yards are not being indicted. If the Government can bring any case it likes against you, and will find witnesses to collaborate their story, thus leading to an indictment.

The fans and the media in Atlanta are not allowing Michael Vick to have his day in court. He is innocent until proven guilty. Michael Vick has brought good fortune to the Falcons and this city. Again, I think it is racial. The media is already portraying Michael Vick in due rags, and braids looking like a thug. He currently doesn’t have braids in his hair. There is a divided just system in America, and it is Minority against the almighty and powerful Caucasians in authority. Last night I watched the news of this event unfold, and majority Whites were interviewed. The same people who can afford to go to the Falcons games to watch Michael Vick play football, has now turned their backs on him. “You of little faith.” Give Michael Vick a chance. Yes he owned the home where the dog fighting allegedly occurred, but he never lived in the house.

I think it is criminla that Athur Blank, in hs liberal and naive actions in embracing Vick as he did acted irrationally in not doing a thorough back ground check on Vick, his family and associates. At the very least he would hve discovered trends relating to the moral fiber of this miscreant who treated the public poorly and was a poor represenative to those who were stupid enough to look at him as a role model. Maybe he can get the number 7 in the sequence of his prison number? Schaub should never have been traded given the events preceding this last episode of criminal behavior.

Could the AJC puh-lease take that picture of a scowling Vick off the front of the web site? This is turning into a feeding frenzy. This is so ridiculous. Updates all day? You’d think Bin Laden had been found or something. Is this story really that newsworthy? Let this case be tried in the court system and allow Vick’s innocence or guilt to be proven in a court of law. I’ve never seen people more eager to see a man fall than Michael Vick. We don’t act like this about murderers or child molestors. You have to ask yourself why is all of this anger and hate directed towards a football player? I think we all know why, we just don’t want to admit it. Atlanta and Georgia were never ready for a black quarterback. There are people on this blog and in this city and state who never wanted Vick, whether he loses or wins, to play the position. It contradicted everything we thought about the game and about life in general. He’s been under the microscope ever since. I hope he’s found not guilty and moves on to a city that will appreciate him. Good luck Vick! Keep your head up!

Dear Mr. Blank and the Atlanta Falcons Organization: Let me start off by saying that I have been an Atlanta Falcons fan since 1978, which is the year I was born. Sundays at my house as a little girl, were spent sitting in a Lazy Boy with my daddy and granddaddy watching the Falcons play. I have stuck with the “hometown team” since day one through thick and thin, never once ashamed to wear that jersey…until now.

I have decided against watching the Falcons play this season due to the actions of Michael Vick. I feel as if we have been betrayed as a city, and as fans. I feel sorry for Mr. Vick’s team mates, as they will now bear this burden of horror as well. I am amazed that someone of Mr. Vick’s stature in the community could commit such an act of violence on a helpless animal. My nephews looked up to Mr. Vick, and wanted to play pro ball “just like 7”. Not anymore. My 5 year old nephew Slayden, cried when we told him what it meant that he was “indicted” for animal cruelty. His jersey, which he loved, and slept in for a week when we purchased it at his 1st Falcons game….is now in the trashcan.

I hope that this letter will open your eyes, and you do the right thing for not only your Atlanta Falcon fans, but for those that aren’t football fans. This is no longer about your too big for his britches athelete and winning the game. This is about being a decent human being.

    1) Whether he is eventually proven guilty or not, Michael Vick’s long history of bad decisions and indiscretions are and embarrassment to the Falcons and a disgrace to the city of Atlanta. Vick, by his own actions, has proven himself to not be worthy of representing a team, much less a city.

    2) Given that the Feds have a 95% conviction rate, any reasonable person now knows that Vick was involved (to some degree) in this heinous collection of activities. Sure, he may find a legal loophole to escape conviction, but all reasonable people know he was involved.

    3) As long as Michael Vick is associated with the Falcons I will no longer support them in any manner whatsoever. I hope other conscientious Atlanta citizens will also boycott the Atlanta Falcons so long as they willingly associate with such a disgraceful piece of garbage.

Wow this is sad. I am not a star or public figure and I made my million in other areas…I grew up in the Perry Homes projects in ATL and must admit at a young age I did some things on the other side of the law that I am not proud of because I had to eat. I have friends that expect me to be the same as back then but I make it clear I am not jeopardizing the way my family enjoy life today. That being said I am the type of person that will still open my home to old friends I grew up with because I respect all people although I don’t totally agree with their lifestyle. Some of whom I know are still doing the things we did way back when….I still invite to a cookout, party or something but I am not going to do the those things and hang out in areas I know trouble exists. Why is it so difficult for so many pro players to find themselves in these situations? Why does Pac man and all the others who are in the news doing the same things they did when they were broke carrying all of your broke old friends around…..start learning other cultures….use that 80k you throw around at strip clubs (making it rain) to pay some deserving child way to college or go to Africa, Australia…Russia…Europe and do some of the things you dreamed of before all of the riches. I have seen MV play as far back as high school. I know the area he grew up in Va. and it reminds me of Perry Homes…you made great strides in life MV and now it possibly gets thrown away because you forcing the hand that provide your source of income that is holding your entire family together…..Because of your talent the NFL have given you riches most never dream of and look at how you have been able to do the wonderful things for your family….you can still acknowledge and show love to the fellas without doing the things that they find amusing…..enjoy the dream and success. To those friends who do not understand then remember family is more important. I hope you weather this storm son but this will always overshadow the many good things you’ve accomplished in life.

You mean to tell me NO ONE on the team knew anything about this? IF Vick is found guilty and that’s a BIG “IF”…let’s not forget Duke Lacrosse… those who knew and did nothing are just as guilty as those who did the killings.

These comments are hilarious. It’s funny how this is supposed to be a country founded on “Christianity” but people are so quick to judge someone whom you don’t even know. Instead of condeming the man, how about praying for him. That would be too much like the right thing to do.

Let me ask one more question. What’s the difference between what Vick is accused of doing and what horse trainers do to horses when they break a leg, (while racing for money, something they are trained to do)? To my knowledge, that’s not their purpose for existance. Or these hunting shows that are broadcasted on ESPN and other sporting networks. Aren’t they killing innocent animals? Just a question… Think for yourselves people and stop letting other people think for you. Peace

I just think it is amazing how the media, specifically ajc.com uses the most unappealing and “thuggish” picture you can find of Michael Vick, which isn’t objective and already paints a guilty picture and perception for the readers who come across the story. I have studied these trends in Diversity and Mass Media and it is very sad to see this continued cycle of racism, intentional or unintentional. Moreover, I think the Falcons should stand by their player and the team should support the franchise player until he is proven otherwise guilty. The city of Atlanta has turned on him and surely the Falcons will never be the same without Vick on the sideline and on the field and the Phony Atlanta Falcons fans that are bad mouthing Vick will realize his importance after they turn on the television and see a Falcons Blackout this season. I am simply not going to support the Falcons anymore if Vick doesn’t play for the simple fact that the so called fans have turned on him and the team has the best chance with Michael Vick as the starting QB!! He is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW, NOT PUBLIC OPINION!!!

    You ask what’s the difference?

    Uh….. it’s called “Illegal”

Plus, what most horse trainers do now if a horse breaks a leg is keep the animal alive if it can be saved. If the horse can’t be saved they put it to death HUMANELY, not by hanging it, or electrocution or beating it to death.

Wow, you’re not to smart if you have to ask “What’s the difference?” Racing a horse vs. having it fight another horse to the death is a pretty big difference.

This is cracking me up. I do not want to jump to conclusions if he is guilty or not but people that are supporting Michael Vick are not giving a good enough argument. Their only reason is that it is a witch hunt and he is black. That is true that they are making a big deal about it because of his status. Up to about a month ago, he had the world on a silver plate and people like that need to be careful what they do because they can get in trouble a lot easier than a regular person beacause it is better news and easier to make an example out of.

To the Front office of the Atlanta Falcons,

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am one of the biggest fans of the Atlanta Falcons and have been since I was 12 years old. I am now 41. I have watched the Falcons’ backed the Falcons and even got laughed at for being a Falcon fan back when the Falcons were terrible. No matter what, I have always backed the Falcons. I have watched many games, dreamed many dreams of a championship for Atlanta. I know Mike Vick is innocent until proven guilty, but if he is allowed to play with this incitement hanging over his head, I will have to boycott the Falcons. As bad as it hurts, I will not watch one down if Mr. Vick is allowed to play. Mike Vick needs a leave of absence to take care of this personal matter. It will be too much of a distraction for the Falcons to be a competitive team. I am not a “Vick Hater” I love to watch him play, but this is such a bad thing, that I can not and will not cheer on a player with this kind of problem hanging over his head. Please understand I must air my views. I love this team with all my heart, A heart that is broken If I don’t get to watch my Falcons.

    Respectfully,

    Your number 1 fan

aw2001, horses are put down because of broken legs because if they are unable to heal, they essentially won’t be able to walk again, allowing them only a life of suffering.

As for hunting shows, depending on what is being hunted, such as deer, the animals are processed for consumption. Not to mention that hunting deer helps keep one of world’s largest animal populations under control.

The Falcons should suspend Vick — as a minimum — until the legal process is completed. What parent — in their right mind is going to hold Vick up as a role model given his past, and his ‘alleged’ present?? If they insist on playing him, then expect the Georgia Dome to be inhabited by thugs and thugettes. The Falcons have been short on discipline for Vick in the past — just hope they can see the light this time!!

These comments are hilarious. It’s funny how this is supposed to be a country founded on “Christianity” but people are so quick to judge someone whom you don’t even know. Instead of condeming the man, how about praying for him. That would be too much like the right thing to do.

Hate to break it to you, but this isn’t a Xtian country. It was NOT founded on Xtian principles. It is a secular republic which has, unfortunately, been usurped by the Religious Reich of late. Those morons want to make it a Xtian country, but they are flat-out wrong.

I do believe in “innocent until proven guilty.” But I am having a hard time feeling that when I look at Vick’s history, and the heinous nature of these charges. I admit I am predisposed to think badly of him, but it’s his own fault. It has nothing to do with his race, and everything to do with his pompousness, ignorance, and actions.

When will PROFESSIONAL athletes understand that when you sign up for the big money, you become a ROLE MODEL?

We fans who spend our hard earned money for the tickets and the jerseys are the ones that ultimately pay your salaries.

If you do not want to be a thoughtful, law abiding citizen, then do not accept the job. We do not want you if you do not like the job description.

We are tired of it. It is a human issue. Police, firefighters, teachers and others who put everything on the line for a meager salary every day are the true heroes. Not the drug enhanced, ego enhanced Super Athletes.

True Mr. Barlowe. He looked that way while he was at the football game filled with intensity and possible anger over his receivers not being able to catch a pass. However, that wasn’t my point. The point was that someone chose that “thuggish” picture for a reason. There are millions of pics on file for Vick and it seems like the idea was to find a more demeaning picture to paint GUILTY all over him. The term THUG is used way too loosely in society. He is not a Thug according to the true definition. Scarface is a THUG. Al Capone is a THUG but Michael Vick is NOT but a racist society calls him one on ignorant understanding of the term. AJC did a great article on the definition a few months back. You should read up on it!!!

As a season ticket holder and loyal Falcons fan, I believe that legitimate fans care only about winning and about doing so with a sense of pride.

No longer can Arthur allow Michael to lead us in that direction.

It is not about race, it is not about anything other than right or wrong. Vick made this bed and now must sleep in it.

At the very minimum, Arthur should sit him until this issue is resolved. His one and only concern should be the fans, and I believe the majority of us want him off the field when the Falcons face Carolina on 9/23.

The organization faces alienating a lot of people by not taking action. The courts will undoubtedly decided guilt, but if the concern of the Falcons is putting together a group with the best chance of winning, it is clearly not going to be a group led by a man that is facing felony charges from the US government. Distractions are killers to any organization, and I for one would be fine watching Joey Harrington give it a shot this year.

If Vick had any maturity left, he would make this move himself.

Dogfighting to me is repulsive. But, there have always been societies that have gotten pleasure out of this sort of thing. I mean, the Mayans and Romans used to enjoy this type of sport with humans. The result for the loser usually being death or sacrifice. Look at today’s hot sport, Ultimate Fighting. Don’t tell me people don’t watch that in hopes of seeing someone get their spine ripped out and their head thrown at their carcass a la Mortal Combat.

This isn’t to excuse what these clowns did, but I guess I am saying that if you want answers, then you better whip out your Psychology degree and start breaking down the different cultures that are typically involved in this sort of thing.

What really bothers and sickens me is the method used to put down the losers. It is almost a serial killer aspect. What in the world would posses a person to beat an animal to its death? Or what thrill does it bring someone to run electricity through a dog until it is cooked alive? Or to drown a living animal? I’m not saying that simply shooting it in the head is humane, but compared to these methods… There is definitely something wrong with the person who chooses a prolonged and tortuous method of killing. Some people may say this is no big deal, why aren’t they after the “real” criminals, they are just dogs (those people obviously never had a pet). Let’s say it is a gateway crime. To me, anyone capable of doing such reprehensible acts is capable of much, much worse.

After reading several things from the indictment report, I am sickened about how someone could something of that nature. To me, the things that Vick and his “posse” have done are just one step shy of doing this to human beings. It is absolutely disgusting. I am a die hard Falcons fan and I am totally embarassed to have Michael Vick as the quarterback of my favorite team. Unfortunately, he not only is the quarterback, he is the face of the franchise.

This is a black eye on the franchise and the city. I think the Falcons should release Michael Vick, no questions asked. I would be perfectly content to have Joey Harrington, or maybe even Daunte Culpepper, at quarterback next season. It would bring less headaches, and honestly maybe more wins. If you really think about what Vick has done in Atlanta, it isn’t much. Yes, he is exciting, but that hasn’t really amounted to wins. We were a .500 team at best before he got here, and the past two years, that is right where we have stayed. Give Harrington, Culpepper, or even Shockley a chance, and let them see what they can do. If the season is a failure, we will have a good draft pick, and Petrino can draft Brian Brohm.

Dump Michael Vick. He is a terrible person and he should not be rewarded with millions of dollars.

Vick has disgraced himself, the Atlanta Falcons, the NFL, the state of Virginia, the city of Newport News[for those who don’t know-“Bad News” is a nickmame for Newport News, Vick’s hometown; he was so arrogant-he names the kennel operation after the place where he was born and raised!], VaTech, and everybody who helped him make it to the NFL.

He simply cannot be allowed to play while the court case is unfolding-pure and simple. To do so would be a travesty. Every game involving the Falcons and Vick playing would be protested. If he’s convicted-send him to prison-period. For those who are on the fence about this-read the complete indictment.

I won’t watch the Falcons and I won’t have anything to do with any advertisers who support Vick.If the NFL won’t take action-I just might boycott the season.

To all those comparing Vick to the Duke Lacrosse players, the Feds are a whole different ballgame than ambitious county D.A.’s and no you can’t get a Federal indictment for a ham sandwich, there is a reason their conviction rate is so high. They also don’t tell everything they know, and Federal indictments are regularly modified with a superseding indictment to add charges. Also, jury nullification is not such an issue on a Federal jury. Above all that, Michael Vick is not the most focused football player at the best of time, how do you think you will be now? Also, he is not the only player on the team, there are 52 other individuals impacted and I think it is about time that Arthur Blank thought about them. If he doesn’t, the as he said when he gave Michael Vick the world, “It is now official, I work for Michael Vick.”

As a California gal with Georgia roots, but remaining a lifelong Falcons fan, I say boot Vic. He’s not only a disgrace to the Falcons, but to the city of Atlanta at large. World-class athletes have a duty to be role models, given what they are paid and the exposure they are given. Vic is anything but.

Vic has shown what he truly is - a low-life thug, deserving of the same penalty he bestowed on the animals. Alas, he won’t get that from the government - we can only hope he gets it from the inmates soon (hopefully) to be his roommates.

First, let’s start off by saying just like we bleed and are human, so is Vick. We spend so much time and press focusing on the bad. But in reality most people do more good than bad. And I know Vick do more good, but we don’t see that. In this case….yesterday the news spent the 1st 12 minutes talking about Vick. And no more than a couple of second talking about the little girl that was mauled by a dog while her mom was high on meth. Tell me which one is more important. Honestly, Vick will see more money in his lifetime than most of us, so why do we care? My point at hand…….I think this case is based on hear say more than anything. There is no physical evidence….none. And the people who are actually testifying are money driven, or want their 15 minutes of fame. Because if they were there… what makes them innocent and Vick guilty…$$$. That’s it. We give these sport stars millions and we instantly want them to be role models, most are role models but some are not. And I have said this before Vick doesn’t get paid to be a role model, he gets paid to play football. Vick sell tickets. If Vick get suspended watch how the ticket sells drop. Everybody has their opinion, the truth of the matter is football is a business. And the business is to sellout the Georgia Dome and Vick did that. We didn’t have that until Vick came. So honestly we need to do a reality check on ourselves and realize he is just as human as we are, people make mistakes and the majority learn from it. We’ve all done things that we are not proud of or even assumed of, so is he.

If Mike Vick is playing for the Falcons this year, I will not be watching. He is a very sad human being. He thinks because of his money, he is above the law and that everyone loves him because of his skills. I say it would be preferable to call it “Begone, Mike Vick”.

I don’t beleive anything in that indictment. I have seen cops, local D.A. frame the dead……..and get caught lying……The feds in Georgia however were hard pressed to tell the truth so a 90 year old woman’s family could put her memory to rest knowing the truth that they framed a dead woman, and all the circumstances surronding it. It is filth and trash, ready to be ripped apart and thrown out. That’s why I don’t even buy newspaprers and rarely believe anything legal about celebrities until the final gavel has hit the judges bench, people convict Vick, and say ugly things about him, Media conviciton, Just like Cnn, Court Tv, did Michael Jackson. But he was found innocent on all charges. Vick will be too. His lawyers will tear these goones apart.

The Atlanta Falcons will no longer get my support as long as they keep this worthless excuse for a human being on their payroll.

If Vick is convicted, he ought to be banned from the league and he should go to PRISON. I’m sure he’d fit in quite nicely there.

To all you people that are convicting Vick in the media and these blogs, get a life. If Vick is guilty of participating in these events, then all he owes America is an apology. Let’s not forget that these are dogs, not people and dogs and cats are euthanized every day because there are too many of them around. Let’s also not forget that these were probably pit bulls (who I don’t mind having 7-8 less of them around). Vick doesn’t deserve to lose his job over something he is “accused” of. He didn’t kill anybody (human). Animal rights people need to get a life and stop trying to destroy someone’s life because they made a mistake. I love dogs too, but I certainly would not want to damage someone’s life and job over a dog killing (unless it was my personal dog). And let’s not forget, Vick hasn’t been convicted of anything yet, this is just an indictment, not a conviction.

Everyone is making a big deal about dog fighting and the kinds of activities the sport celebrities take part in. Dog fighting has been around for 100 years. Sick people participate and will continue to participate. We as fans have created these type of people. Maybe the teachers, policeman, fireman, Paramedics etc should get paid the money….not the athletes. If you do any reserach on dog fighting you will realize it’s just another part of our society. Doctors, lawyers, businessman and celebrities all participate. Just like the use of drugs. So I am not surprised by any of this stuff.

How many of you actually read the entire indictment? If Vick was there for the electrocution, drowning etc. of 8 dogs he’s going to jail. Do you think after the Duke lacrosse case a DA would indict MICHAEL VICK unless they were sure it would stick. IT’S OVER ATLANTA! He’s gone, it’s a foregone conclusion, the higher the profile the harder the fall. What a loser. It doesn’t matter if he knew it was a felony, he just has to have the ability to distinguish between right and wrong to be guilty. Unless he’s insane he can’t get off on that one.

Do not compare this indictment to some po-dunk DA in NC trying to further his career by pushing a dubious case backed up by a lying stripper. This is THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT who happens to have a 95% success rate at conviction. When they bring an indictment they mean and expect to win. The allegations in the indictment point to Michael Vick, the erstwhile #7 Falcon, to being one of the lowest forms of humanity. There is no excuse for animal abuse and when the evidence begins rolling out in open court it’s over for him.

Vick has never been a team player. I have never seen him encourage his back ups if they’re in the game and struggling. When someone screws up on the offense or defense, Vick cusses and shakes his head on the sidelines. I’ve never seen him try to bolster anyone up after something bad happens. Then he goes making up obscene gestures at fans…HIS fans! He is not a team player. He’s ungrateful and arrogant. The Falcons were struggling before Vick came and except for one year…ONE YEAR…the Falcons have struggled since Vick has been here. Cut him loose and sue him for breach of contract. He may have signed his name on the dotted line, but he never really joined the team.

I can’t believe Michael Vick can be so stupid! He has a $130 million dollar football contract and makes other millions in endorsements. He risks all of this to be involved in “dog fighting”. How could he be so daring to think he would never get caught in this? How could he risk a paltry payoff in dog fighting compared to his income in sports? You will never convince me that he had no knowlege in this. He is going to be severly punished for this illegal activity in many ways, by the court, by the NFL and by the Falcons. It’s sad to see how the public is so quick to jump to conclusion. I believe the U.S. Constitution states that one has the right to a speedy trial…Until then we need to let time take its course and proceed with caution. An indictment does not mean that a person is guilty (ex: Duke Rape Case), it just states that the prosecutors have enough evidence to take the case to trial. With the right team of attorneys, I think Vick will be able to beat these charges; However, if found guilty, its very likely that he will spend at lease 1 yr in prison and that will be the end of his NFL career.

True Falcons fans stick by their own during good and bad times. Its easy to jump on the ship when times are good, but everybody wants to jump off when times are hard….I hope people realize what Michael Vick has met to the Atlanta Falcons. Pre-Vick the Georgia Dome was always empty and the Falcons were constant losers. With Vick, the Georgia Dome is full on Sundays and the Falcons win most of the time.

This is the perfect opportunity to drop Vick and get a solid QB. Vick is full of talent, but short on intellect. Too many NFL players have one foot back home with the guys they grew up with and the values of the street. Michael Vick deserves all that he has coming to him. He’s overrated anyway. We in the African American Community must begin to raise our standards regarding the people we consider as role models for our children. I’m sick of long white Ts and our youth being corrupted by irresponsible individuals who happen to find themselves in the spotlight. Too many of our young men are dying, and too many young women are becoming mothers before they’re ready due to the individuals we in the African American community allow our youth to emulate. Michael Vick : GO STRAIGHT TO JAIL, AND DO NOT PASS GO! That goes for you so-called entertainers as well. Our ancestors did not endure all that they had to endure for us to drop the ball like we’re doing now. Our youth should be encouraged to pursue excellence, and leave monkey see, monkey say, and monkey do alone.

The future actions of Mr.Blank and the Falcons will speak volumes regarding the franchise’s character and values. Vick has been a poor example for kids — especially over the past couple of years. Vick was the one that did it to himself, and do not think he received the discipline HE REQUIRED while with the Falcons.

Can you imagine some young kids or teenagers attempting to imitate what Vick and his group are accused of doing? Sad — really sad!

This is not a Black or white issue. It is a legal or illegal issue, and good values vs. bad values.

The falcons would be stupid to cut, trade, or part ways with Vick in any other manner! He is to great of a talent & although he hasn’t fully put it together on the football field yet, anyone who is honest with themselves KNOWS THE POTENTIAL IS THERE! In all actuality, Vick took major strides last year, anyone who really watched the games knows that his accuracy last season was much better & his completion percentage was down due to his lack of receivers & not because of his ball placement! Even Alge let him down last year! He had NO help & still put up solid numbers, imagine what they would have been if he actually had receivers’ who could have caught the ball! The falcons & the NFL should not & in my opinion MUST not act against Vick until he is convicted, IF THAT’S WHAT THE VERDICT TURNS OUT TO BE! IF NOT THEN THE WHOLE WRAP ABOUT INOCCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY & THE NEW NFL POLICY BEING FOR REPEAT OFFENDERS IS B.S!

Now look just a few years later, Kobe is back, better than ever, everyone loves him again & only is he representing L.A. but he’s representing America on Team USA! just THINK ABOUT THIS PEOPLE WHY WOULD WE GET RIDE OF HIM BEFORE HE’S EVEN CONVICTED OF A CRIME? People in Atl hate this man for NO reason, claiming he has a checked past….HOW? Ok he shot a bird to heckler’s in the crow, how many athletes have done that…It’s really not that big of a deal! But besides that ONE incident which is not criminal in ANY way, shape, or form how has his past been checkered before this dog fighting case? The water bottle incident proved to not happen, well at least not to happened as far as him not doing anything illegal, so what do you have against Vick as a person & a citizen, he has done nothing, yet all he’s gotten is criticism & hatred from his own fans, ridiculous if you ask me! Let the court decide his fate!

I am ashamed to have met M. Vick, to have his jersey, and be a fan. In a business stand-point the Falcons should cut themselves from anything that will stunt growth under a new coaching staff. Other businesses that have endorsed him (M. Vick) have already taken the step of releasing him. We all fear that he may come back with another team to beat the team/city that let him go, but that is ONLY if he is not guilty.

Michael Vick seems to be 2 people in one body. One, he is a talented football player and Two, he is a person who seems to make very bad choices. He has to realize that there are consequences for every choice that we make. I really hope that he learns from his mistakes, gets some wisdom, and makes better choices in the future. As far as the Falcons are concerned, they should sit tight and see what the outcome of this trial will be.

Mike Vick is a waste of a great football player. The Atlanta Falcons should cut their losses right now.He is an embarrassment to the entire state of Georgia and all football players young and old. This is really a kick in the face to all that stood with him.Whether he is guilty or not he has damaged the crediabilty of the NFL and all who believed in him. Hopefully the NFL will make the right decision to suspend him .How can he lead a football team when he can’t even lead his own life .

Excuse me. Michael Vick, according to CNN News this morning, was responsible for killing the dogs who weren’t aggressive enough to fight. So, after beating the animals, tying them to a tree and terrorizing them to make them angry enough to fight, he killed the ones who weren’t.

And how did he do this? By hanging them, drowning them or electrocuting them.

And you don’t think he knew this was criminal? I think not.

Arthur Blank seems like a very trusting and compassionate person. In addition to a $130 million long term contract, he has provided MV every opportunity to succeed in the NFL. Yet MV has taken that opportunity and rubbed Arthur Blank’s face in the dirt. I would not want to be in MV’s shoes the next time he meets with Arthur Blank. In my opinion, MV will not get another opportunity to embarass or disgrace Mr. Blank.

I dont understand why I felt sad after hearing mike v latest woes. I am not a falcon fan, nor a football ban. Infact I could care less who wins or loses. I watched Vick. Thought he very interesting. Then I was introduced to Ron Mexico.(I began to say hmmm.) Then the flip off(inwhich I dismissed as a bad day) then the weed odor(hey a lil weed aint never killed no one! nor a lot of weed lol)I figured it was dumb to try to board a plane with a stinky bottle smelling like weed. I would expect some rock star, rapper or Rick James like star to get busted with a drug smelly bottle. not a guy who has a 130million dollar purse. He missed an award(no big deal) O.K. then about the dogs.(O.K. now I have to stand back and ponder because I am an animal lover and owner of 4shepherds(with some on the way)I could not imagine any wounds on my “kids” even when they get into it with each other I break it up and lock up the trouble maker who started the fight until he or she cools off. The thought of killing or harming any of my dogs or anyone else harming them is about as close to my mind as the planet Pluto. I just feel bad for Mike. In this case Fame, and Money. to much too soon has reared its ugly head! What a curse!

A few points on the Mike Vick indictment and some absurd comments I’ve heard: 1. dog fighting & animal cruelty are illegal, eating dead animals or hunting are not 2. federal indictments are much harder to get than county / state indictments 3. 95% of federal indictments are found guilty or plead no contest 4. many of those 95% have very good lawyers, are powerful people and still are convicted 5. Vick has been a great quarterback at time and a poor quarterback at times 6. We’ve all seen him show how great his skills are (running & passing, Vikings run, beating Green Bay at Green Bay, etc) 7. We haven’t seen him show he can make good decisions, middle finger to the fans, STD case, airport water bottle, his brother’s actions, and now dog fighting. 8. if Vick can play, do we think with a federal indictment hanging over him he will play better this year than in the past? 9. Vick has given a whole new thought when you hear “GA Bull Dog” (even though he is not associated with them) 10. Matt Schaub looks pretty good right now. 11. my 6 season tickets in the 100 level for the Falcons look pretty bad now 12. we now will step back several years and have a divide again in Atlanta (along racial lines) on the Falcons and life in general 13. I’ve lost my desire to see him mature as a quarterback because he hasn’t matured as a person. His career is done. 14. If he is convicted, can the Falcons null his contract and have the salary money back?

You guys are all the biggest jokes I have ever seen. Just because one player made a few bad choices you all are going to boycott the Atlanta Falcons? The team is not the Michael Vick Falcons they are the Atlanta Falcons. There are 60+ other players on this team who need our support, and just because one of them has made bad decisions doesn’t mean this city has to turn their back on the team. I truly hope that this does not happen because these guys need our support. I have been a Falcons fan for 22 years and I have seen a lot of losses and a few good wins along the way but I have stood true as a Falcons fan no matter what and I hope that you guys will too. If not then you are all a bunch of bandwagon fans like most of you have always been, jumping on when we have a good season and getting right back off if we don’t.

Mr. Blank: Vick is innocent until proven guilty, but the right move would be for you to suspend him now. Call it a leave of absence if that sounds better to you.

It would be the best thing you can do right now for the team, the fans, the city, the league, and, especially for Vick himself.

Vick is going to need to put all his focus on this issue for the forseeable future. The rest of us need to focus on something else.

White America will never change. If someone looks differently, they are a thug. Look at your children (white america) who tries so desperately to be in the African American culture. Are they a thug? All of this name calling is totally ridiculous.

Interestingly enough, the indictment doesn’t name MV’s cousin who lived in the house and was initially investigated for drugs. Furthermore, the indictment doesn’t name anyone else living there. What’s that about? Is this really a well-planned investigation to bring down those who are really responsible for dogfighting? What kind of deals are the informants suppose to get? And who are the informants? Do you have criminal backgrounds, particularly in dogfighting? Is MV’s counsin an informant?

I think the average person/fan should ask these kinds of questions just for starters, before jumping on the MV is guilty band-wagon.

Remember, the Feds have a job to do, but an indictment is not proof, its only an allegation of a crime. MV’s attorneys will have ample opportunity to raise doubt (not that its easy) about the 18 page document.

Unfortunately, the NFL and the Falcons have a problem. The out-cry of public opinion will probably force their hands into doing something (suspension) they don’t want to do. The commish is at a cross-roads, because he has not had this situation before (a player whose not a repeat offender with the law). Therefore, in my opinion the commish/falcons will take a lighter stance on MV than the public will expect. Besides, he is entitled to do-process.

    These allegations are absolutely disgusting.

I understand the whole concept of innocent until proven guilty, however, vicks cocky attitude in the press when asked about this issue (beginning back in may) really kinda sez it all. someone who is innocent of abusing, torturing, and killing animals would make a point of declaring that they do not condone such behavior. instead, vick talks about how ‘people love him no matter what he does’ (paraphrasing).

it is obvious by his behavior that he was either enabling the abuse or contributing to it. he is sick and twisted and I hope the falcons will do what’s right here. people like this should NOT be rewarded.

Even though I dont care about the Dirty Birds I think the best thing is to drop Vick and move on because there is no way that all of this will not be a distraction to the organization, fans, and to the city of Atlanta. To all of you Vick fans that dont want to believe this nightmare it’s time to wake up and realize that your star QB that is supposed to lead the Birds to a superbowl is an “animal killer” and the only bowl he is taking you all is the “toilet bowl” because that’s where his career is going. He seems to be more of a flash in the pan than a time proven success, and similar to Vick, he has character flaws. Remember his Minnesota excursions, which finally got him bounced out of there? **These egotistical owners will pull no stops to have their dogs win in order to feed their insatiable, disgusting appetite for self importance and money. They rigorously train their dogs to compete by changing their diet and consuming the dog with physical activity. And let’s not forget the people that go and watch these fights. Sick b******* screaming, “let ‘em go!” and getting enjoyment as the dogs rip each other apart while screaming, “Finish him, Bo.” The dogs come back tired and wounded and put out to pasture if they loose. Just sad.

He is to be compared to guys like Joey Harrington, and David Carr. Even with MV7 the Falcons were looking at a 7-9 year. Now all the MV7 lovers are gonna crucify Harrington for going 6-10. With any luck we go 2-14, and can get the 1st pick again.

I have grown up watching the Falcons, but they have lost a fan. Michael Vick is a disgrace to this city. He has shown that he is a “man” (and I use that term lightly) of low moral character and should not have the honor of playing with the likes of Warrick Dunn and Keith Brooking. Guilty or not, Michael Vick needs to go. The allegations against him brought tears to my eyes to imagine the pain those poor animals suffered. And yes, Pit Bulls are animals (for those believe their only existence is too kill). When is Mr. Blank going to wake up and realize that Michael Vick’s behavior is damaging the credibility of the Falcons and himself?

Frankly, I don’t give a damn how this situation impacts the Falcons. If found guilty, he needs to do some SERIOUS time in the “joint!!!” Plus, be made to make a very high (one he can really FEEL) donation to the Humane Society. At this point there is only one thing to do, suspend him until this is resolved. It’s too distracting for a team to have ANYONE is this type of situation, much less the quarterback. The lawyers will decide if he gets paid or not. When it gets resolved, he either comes back or not, depending on the outcome and what he does between now and then.

Michael Vick is a criminal. He should go to jail and pay huge fines. During the day, I think he should have to work in an animal shelter, cleaning out cages, feeding the animals, and then spend his nights in a 10x8’ jail cell with no TV or contact with the outside world. He doesn’t deserve to be playing football, or having any kind of perks, such as money. If he is going to use his wealth to do criminal activities, then he should not have that money or fame. He is just a common thug.

The Falcons have some really great athletes and class acts on their bench in DJ Shockley and Joey Harrington. Both very successful college QB’s. Petrino a successful college coach, I believe, could play either of those two guys and get better results than a very selfish player in Mike Vick.

I will never attend nor watch another Falcons game until Michael Vick is off the team. Here’s one fan, Arthur Blank, that you had a chance to sell season tickets to and I passed on them.

I’m tired of people accepting nonchalant and reckless celebrity behavior. Paris Hilton got what she deserved. OJ did not, Ray Lewis did not.

I hope Michael Vick gets tossed in a Federal Penitentiary for a long, long time.

Either way this is a lose lose situation for the Falcons! If you play Vick it’s a PR nightmare, but if you don’t play him Joey Harrington is your quarterback. Best bet for Atlanta go ahead and cut ties with him and try to bring in Culpepper until you can find a permanent solution.

    To the race-baiters out there:

I am a 26-year-old white male. I purchased season tickets 2 days ago. My dad and grandfather have had season tickets since day 1 (1966, for those who love to post here yet have no knowledge of the history of the Falcons).

Last night I threw away 2 Vick jerseys and a pair of Zoom Vick IIs. This means I actually paid for these items.

I supported Michael Vick. When the Falcons traded for him, I called my best friend, dad and grandfather in jubilation. “It’s a new era for Falcons football,” I thought.

I was wrong. He has disgraced our team and our city. Thousands of white people have cheered for and stood behind Michael Vick. Yet, now if we criticize him, it is because we are racists?

Look yourselves in the mirror. Vick is supported by people because he is black. Yet he is despised by many people because he is an alleged psychopath. Get over the racial issue, folks. If Keith Brooking were charged with the same crime, we would be just as critical of him as we are of Vick.

As shocking and sickening as the details are of Vick and his crew’s deeds are… why is anyone surprised…Vick is and has always been a sociopathic punk and into dogfighting since his Virginia Tech days… but let’s allow him to continue to suit up on Sunday’s albeit with a slightly different twist… first we build him a football field enclosed by a 10 foot electrified cyclone fence, dip his uniform in a highly potent mixture of Roast Beef drippings and female dog feramones and then turn loose 11 agitated and underfed male pit bulls and promote it as a Pay per View (mike Vick gets it DOGGIE STYLE)event…millions of dog lovers could watch the piece of excrement get slowly ripped to shreds with the proceeds going to ASPCA

You can talk about discrimination all you want but if you see a bear trap in front of you and still put your foot into it…It appears that all of the trouble that shas urrounded Marcus and now Mike are signs of a much larger problem; possibly in his family and the country as a whole. When we kiss these guys butts and excuse them for every little thing, oftentimes they just keep you kissing, each time with bigger lips. I do not know whether he is guilty and I really do not care. He has not taken care of himself over the years or grown mentally, either in his profession or in his character. He will probably be hounded out of the League and as I see it, with good reason. As hard as it is for a Black person at QB and in this country in general, he, his brother, PAC MAN and all of the rest should know better and expect more of themselves. I kow that the THUGS say “keeping it real” but how will their kids, their kids friends , inlaws and others that have some mental stake invested in them deal with it? I guess they will make excuses, say it’s all a plot, that “they do’t like us anyway”. Well, if any of my relatives, friends, aquaintances or “role models” acted ths way; I would not like them either.

I am very saddened by the display of inhumanity and pure evil. If people do this to animals they will do it to people. I hope Vick gets the full prison term. These poor animals have enough problems finding good homes due to what these thugs do with them. Atlanta has soooo many pitbulls that need safe and loving homes (and there are sweet pits out there). If you can give a pit love and a responsible caring home please find a rescue group or go to the county shelters. Our group has some that have to live in boarding because we can’t find a good foster home for them. With the negative media attention and what some people train them to do people have become fearful of them. I was to until I started working with them. The ones I know are sweet, smart, affectionate and loving. The big issue here is the fact the 90,000 animals are killed in Atlanta each year and we as a society need to figure out what to do about that.

None of us should wish for a guilty or innocent verdict.

Instead we should all wish for a comprehensive, fair, expeditious, and constituional trial that produces the correct verdict.

If he is truly innocent, (and not just by establishing conceivable doubt) let us pray he walks away free from unjust public scorn.

If he is guilty, let it be obvious guilt that translates to equitable punishment for his crime(s).

Most of all, let us all work together to ensure that dogs may one day be free from dog fighting, execution, and torture.

WHEN Vick is convicted, I hope our justice system will give him the same sentence or worst than the two boys who baked the puppy in the oven. They are serving 10 years. In this case there are 8 dogs (that we know of so far) that were executed, some in such a way that would justify mandatory psychiatric evaluations for Vick. I hope all parents talk to their children about their “star, hero, etc”. Vick should not be able to buy himself out of this one. He already showed his true self at the airport. Money or no money you can not take the evil out of someone.

Blank has no choice but to show Vick the door. Vick will be subjected to cotinuous abuse by many fans, even Falcons fans at home games. It will be too big an embarrassment to have his franchise player booed in his home stadium. The Falcons were already making contingency plans for life without Vick as any good business would - this now means they have to pull the trigger on them.

Let’s look at the facts: (1) Vick was a mediocre quarterback at best. He was not a superstar or a “role model” or a “nice person”. Whether professional atheletes can or should be role models, that is another question. On the other hand, if atheletes “dis” the fans and they conduct themselves like this loser, “they gotta go”. (2)The reason he was so polarizing was that the only people that supported him were either willing to overlook everything he did because of their own sociological insecurities and inferiority complexes or those that feel guilty for something they had nothing to do with (i.e. I feel so bad for what happened in 1860, if he is a criminal, let’s substitute with another black quarterback). (2) Vick is an un-intelligent, overpaid and over-hyped pseudo celebrity. In 3 years, there won’t be anybody that follows football or anything else that even remembers his name and he will be free to smoke the weed and kill animals as much and as often as he wants, until he gets caught again. Conclusion: We, and I guess he, will be much happier.

Once again how do you justify hunting and training seven year old kids to shoot a deer? That’s called tresspassing and that is a “CRIME” leave the wild life along. You have no right to go out and shoot innocent deers for a hobby.I am not condoning what Vick did if that is the case.I do not see anyone protesting that, I wonder why. There are two different laws, one for “Blacks” and one for “whites” and that is the way it is.Benoit took his family lives away, he is not god.How dare he take the life away from a seven year old. Then you want to point the finger at the doctor, come on folkes. Where is the outrage against that crime. Let’s not mention the “Barbie Bandits”.We are keeping it real here, stay with me.That is a federal crime but I forget, long as they use the term “PRANK” IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. NOW ON THE OTHER HAND IF IT WAS I IT WOULD BE CALLED A “CRIME” AND MY BLACK BEHIND WOULD BE IN JAIL NOW SERVING FED. Dear Mr. Blank,

The actions you demonstrate over the next day or two concerning the conduct of Michael Vick will be a testimony of your leadership in this community and to the Atlanta Falcons. While others may be willing to wait for the judicial system to rule on Michael’s fate, the Falcons image has already undergone significant damage which can only be turned around by you doing the right thing. While I am not a season ticket holder, I have enjoyed bringing my family to games over recent years, cheering on the Falcons. It’s a great product.

You’ve done a wonderful job promoting the Atlanta Falcon image. So many great changes have come about since you took over the team. I’d hate for you to lose everything you’ve worked so hard to build over the years by continuing to promote and stand by someone who has clearly demonstrated that he’s in this for himself and not a team player.

Give your new coach a clean slate to work from. So many new young talented players have joined your organization this year. How about letting one of these new stars shine for you. Someone who can portray a positive image by putting Atlanta back in the spotlight on ESPN game highlights and not on Court TV.

Demonstrate you are a man of good morale character. Yes, the contract with Vick will hurt, but think of the damage that will be done to sponsors and fan base if you do not act accordingly. These are the people you are asking to “Pay the bill”. Cut your losses. Cut Mike Vick!

As a new resident of Atlanta and a pitbull owner/ advocate I am floored by the amount of young people who parade around town using these amazing dogs as status symbols. The Michael Vick case is a call to end the “tough guy” image with these animals. A stiff punishment is a given. However, pitbull advocates and responsible dog owners should take advantage of this case to speak out about backyard breeding and dog fighting in their own communities. These dogs are getting a horrible rap and being punished for the activities that irresponsible owners are involving them in. Dog parks are denying access to pitbulls, insurance companies are charging more and dropping homeowners from their policies and some cities are even banning them totally. Sweet and loving dogs are being taken away from responsible owners because of thugs and their lack of knowledge about this breed. Treat yourself and all creatures with respect… now that’s a status symbol!

The latest MV news is appalling but hardly surprising considering his history. Like most other people who are sick in the head, his upbringing is probably a factor. Shame on you too, the parents of Mike and Marcus Vick - how proud you must be. I feel embarrassed for the city of Atlanta and the entire NFL. After reading all of the posts I feel better knowing that the vast majority of people in Atlanta/Georgia feel the same way. It’s also interesting to note that the few people who do support MV can’t spell or form a coherent sentence. Coincidence? I keep reading what a class act A. Blank and I hope he does what obviously needs to be done. Not just for your city/team which is looking REALLY bad right now (and potentially for the entire season) in the national media but also for the entire NFL. Either way, he will get his. My prediction is a year of ridicule, chiding, barking, dog collars (and that’s just the home fans) followed by a couple years in a state pen. It doesn’t matter how fast you can run in a 6x9 cell. Maybe his herpies will save him a little “hard time” but as Joe Pesci says in My Cousin Vinny, “One way or the other, you’re screwed.” Lastly, to all the fans who are ready to boycott the Falcons until Vick is gone, consider rooting for the Packers in the meantime. At least then your dissapointment will be relegated to what happens on the field.

Michael Vick—if he had any decency as a man in him—would step aside from the Falcons. Yes, he’s innocent until proven guilty, but his presence will be a total distraction for the team, coaches, etc.

This is just another example of how these young, immature kids [athletes/celebrities] are given millions of dollars to do nothing really important, and many act like barbarians! Meanwhile, doctors, nurses, teachers, policemen, firemen have to fight to get paid to do meaningful work. Our society is SO jacked up!

And you “African-Americans” blanketly defending Vick and crying “racism”, need to STOP. First of all—you’re a Black American and secondly, just because other folks (white foks) do stupid stuff doesn’t mean we, as Black people, have to follow suit. Vick isn’t the first person to be involved in something like this, but there’s too much activity going on at his home for him to not have known! So don’t cry that “racist” mess. Those of you who do are just as much of an embarrassment as is Vick.

Vick had a great opportunity handed to him and, even with the things he’s already done, he has squandered his blessings. What a fool. If found guilty, he deserves jail and everything else they can throw at him; he deserves to lose it all. And in case you missed it, yes I’m Black—a Black American.
