Did you feel any tremors?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico, centered about 260 miles southwest of Tampa, was felt by nearly 2,000 people, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
People called in reports of tremors from Florida, south Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The quake occurred at 10:56 this morning.
Did you feel any of the tremors? If so, did you realize it was an earthquake? Tell us …

Yes! I live in Powder Springs,GA (Paulding County) - My husband and I were sitting at the kitchen table when you could hear the window rattling. It happened 1st for about 7 seconds and stopped, but then happened again about 15 - 20 seconds later. After the second, we looked at the time of the occurrence and it was just before 11:00 am, Sunday morning. We truly thought what we felt might have been an earthquake…it’s nice to know that what we thought has been confirmed.

We felt it here in Newnan and I remembered feeling a similar tremor a few years ago. It did not last too long but my daughter has a wooden figure on a pedestal in her room and she said it was swaying.

I felt the tremor - the furniture shaking. Just slightly, but I was in a tremor in Mississippi when I was a child, so I recognized the sensation. I noted that it was 11am. My husband was mowing the lawn. He didn’t notice it. But I knew immediately what it was.

I actually joked that it was an earthquake knowing that we don’t have earthquakes in Fla. I noticed a photo moving and then my husband asked??? Did our house just move? We thought a huge truck had sped down the road or that there was some kind of crash close by, never really expecting a real earthquake… It had to have been felt by more than 2000. Maybe only 2000 reported feeling it.

Yes, I felt it, at approximately 10:59 A.M. I called a local TV station and was apparently the first to mention it! It lasted about 8-9 seconds; I felt 2 distinct segments with a 1-2 second pause in between) in my home. I felt the entire house shake and saw my bookcases—with silk flowers on top—tremble.

I was on the sofa with my eyes closed as a history channel program was ending. It was right around 11a.m. There was a creaking sound in the house, the dog started barking I felt movement. Also, a jacket in the hallway fell off it’s hanging place. It was like the house went back, forward and then back again.
The best way I can describe it is as if you are in a traffic jamb and on a bridge while a semi is rolling by in another lane. I told my partner who didn’t feel it that we just had an earthquake. He didn’t believe me until we started hearing about it on the radio within the next hour.

I was laying in bed about 11:00 Sunday morning and felt the bed shake very subtly. Then a few minutes later I felt the bed shake again. I was a little harder, but still very subtle. It was enough to make me look at the clock - 11:09 AM. I live around Clairmont and I-85.
I thought it may had been from a sonic boom from a 9-11 memorial service or something since may services start at 11:00 on Sunday mornings, but Sunday was 9-10. I did not hear any boom so I thought it was far off.
It did cross my mind that a large terrorist bomb had gone off.
Then I saw on CNN a few hours later about the earthquake.

I live in Dunwoody, Ga. I was sleeping late since I went out the night before and I was awaken by the tremors. I recall my headboard shaking and I said to myself I must be dreaming. I looked at my Armour which was at eye level, then I looked at a perfume bottle to where the liquid was starting to move in the bottle for a few seconds. I then asked my sister who was awake down stairs who was on the phone, and she stated she didnt feel a thing. This is strange coming from a person that was a sleep.

I was sitting in my 7th story condo in Ormond Beach, FL (near Daytona Beach) when my building began to sway. I thought I was just imagining it, however it happened again a few seconds later. At that point we figured that it was a quake. It was strong enough to rattle our windows and rattle dishes in the china cabinet.

I just moved down to Tampa a month ago and I only thought I had to contend with Hurricanes. Well, this morning, while eating breakfast I noticed my table shaking and for a split second I thought it was an earthquake, but I’m in Tampa, not California! So I thought it was my crazy neighbors having a good time, somehow shaking the building. I mean what else could it have been? Well, I came to ajc.com to see how the dirty birds beat down the panthers and I was flabergasted to see an article confirm that it was an earthquake… Crazy! Oh yeah, and Tampa lost!!! Go Falcons!

I was asleep on a dirt floor in a bunker in Viet Nam with my flight jacket under my head, this was 35 years ago, when the ground started shaking I was so excited that I was in my first earthquake. I ran outside and saw a large b-52 airstrike and was so dissapointed, I ran outside this morning looking for the b-52’s but again I was dissapointed. One of these days I’ll get to use my earth science education.

It was around 11:00 am. I was in a Starbucks in Marietta, GA, sitting at at table reading when I felt the swaying. I used to live in Calif. so I know what an earthquake feels like and that darn sure felt like one. It seemed like about 10-15 seconds. But I looked around and I seemed to be the only one who noticed it. I thought maybe it was me, having a dizzy spell. So I went to check my blood pressure. Thanks for reporting it was an earthquake, my husband thought I was nuts.

Yep, I definitely felt it (I live near Piedmont Park). I was feeling a bit under the weather, and went back to bed at around 10:15 this morning. I awoke about half an hour later, and while lying in bed I felt the bed “rolling” and swaying beneath me for a few seconds. This is most unusual, as my bed is a high loft, and I’ve never felt anything like this before. I was so puzzled that I looked around to see if there was any construction, etc., but nothing was going on. I looked at the clock, and it was about 10:55 A.M. Only a few hours later did I learn that the earthquake hit at precisely the same time.

I live in Buckhead. My chair shook for a second or two. Then I asked my 7 year old daughter if she felt it while laying on the couch. She said she did, and I said it felt like an earthquake. I turned on the news on the TV and radio, and when I didn’t hear any reports I told my daughter that we must be the only ones who are crazy. A few hours later I finally saw it on the “crawl” on Fox News. Why did it take so long to report it, and why wasn’t it reported locally sooner?

Speaking as a geology student it’s practically impossible to have felt such a minor seismic waves farer than 300 miles from the source. News of earthquakes tend to affect populaces with little earthquake history, in a way that causes them to desire to have felt it. Such desire causes people to imagine things.

Sorry BearsFan, geology student or not, I’ve spent time living in Cali and I know that was a tremor I felt this morning. I was laying on the couch watching Sportscenter and felt my apt bldg shaking and thought it was my imagination until I saw pictures in my apt wobbling. I know it’s possible to imagine HEARING things, but not seeing things move, it takes more than imagination to start seeing things, that’s called crazy. As a matter of fact, I’ve felt this a couple of times in the last month, just didn’t think anything of it, because this is GA. This was one was surely biggerm, but just wobbly. A couple of years ago, it was a more jarring tremor, like someone was kicking the side of the earth. Those are THE two types of tremors you will feel, either wobbly and jarring. Just makes me wonder- what the hell is going on and were those other ones I thought I felt because they were similar to today’s, a sign of bigger things to come? Not cool.

Acworth has such big trucks it’s like one continuous earthquake and I slept through it. Last year, when I was at my Brother’s in Tampa, around March there was a big one, it was supposedly 3.2, and lasted 40 seconds. The Media claimed it was 2 jets hitting mach 2, but anything in FLA that threatens the Mouse, the O.J., or the Housing Bubble gets squelched fast, and believe me-that was a real earthquake. I’m really suprised they didn’t claim this one was swamp gas also.

My wife and I didn’t feel a thing here in Kennesaw, GA. Odd that it was felt just south and just north of us. I’m wondering if the quake had anything to do with that giant oil field discovery in the Gulf.

I live in Forsyth, GA 27 miles north of Macon and I was brushing my hair and saw the mirror move/shake and I wondered if it was an earthquake. Later I read on the internet that it was! Erie! You wonder-what is next??

My husband felt the tremor. His computer monitor rattled. I didn’t as I was in my car at the time. We are from the SF Bay Area so we are familiar with earthquakes. Both of us went through the 1989 Loma Prieta. Felt just like home yesterday.

I live in Sandy Springs and was sitting on my couch and the couch began to move and shake and I knew immediately what it was since I am from San Diego. I turned to the news to see if coverage was going to verify what I felt, and it did a couple of hours later.

I was in Church along with 4 other persons and we all felt the tremor. We though a company was blasting in the area. The quake actually made the building more. This was great to know we were a part of history feeling this quake right here in Atlanta. We also realize that God work is to be taken serious.

I live in South Walton County.
I thought something had happened but it was during Meet the Press with Veep Cheney so I logically assumed that God was sending a bolt from heaven since Cheney was obviously lying.

The bed started moving and I looked at my husband who was still asleep to see if he was tossing and turning. When I realized that he wasn’t, I thought I was losing it or something. Glad to know that I’m not crazy. I thought it may have been an earthquake, but with so much construction and stuff going on these days in Gwinnett, how can you tell???

Yes, I did feel it. I was laying perfectly still in bed, awake. I felt it once and heard a flock of birds outside leave a tree; I felt a second tremor which shook the lampshade. I got up to get a glass of water to put on my nightstand to see if I could witness further movement, but nothing more happened.

It was felt in Fairburn, Georgia. I just thought that it was a big truck going down the street, but it lasted too long and caused too much rattling. Did not know what had happened till I watched the news this morning.

I live in Madisonville, LA, directly on the Northshore of lake Pontchartrain, 24 miles north of New Orleans. I felt the tremor yesterday morning while awake but still lying in bed. We live in a raised house 10.5 feet off of the ground backed up to a natural swamp area and our entire house shook for several seconds. We thought our foundation was shifting, or that there was construction or something nearby that caused the “rumble”. Very unusual feeling, but kinda of neat in a way!

My wife and I had returned from early church and were watching TV when we felt our chairs shaking. We looked at each other and shouted “earthquake”. There was no doubt in our mind as to what was happening because we remembered the quake some three years ago which was much more pronounced than this one. We live in Hiram,Ga.

I was sitting in church in Villa Rica, Ga., and thought I heard a rattle or rumble like the a/c units outside were shaking. I asked my son ‘Can that be thunder?’ It was over in 4 seconds and I had no idea until seeing your report this a.m.!

I felt it. I was in Bible Study at church in Buckhead when I felt my chair shake. I thought the people in the floor below me must have been having a really great time! When the second tremor hit, I thought there must be construction going on.

We were finishing breakfast at 11 am on Sunday just prior to heading to the Braves game. 4 kids & 2 adults felt nothing. Didn’t even know anything happened till I heard about it on the radio this am on the way to work. We live in an old farmhouse in Alpharetta that doesn’t even rattle when big thunder rolls through the area,so maybe these tremors were so small we couldn’t feel them.
