Wanted: Money-saving ideas

Gwinnett County commissioners started a new program this week that will put $1,000 in the pockets of employees who point out a way to save money. The ideas have to be put into play, of course. The idea was pushed by Commissioner Lorraine Green.

What about citizens? Bet you can give you an earful on how to save tax dollars.

Which prompts us to ask: Who else out there has money-saving ideas for Green and her fellow commissioners? Send us your ideas.

Sorry, no cash for your answers. The best we can do is publish the best ideas.

Liquidate all underperforming assets that the county holds, privatize as many public services as possible while keeping oversight to make sure that the private companies are delivering the services properly and hold some type of tax-amnesty period during which those who owe back taxes to the county can pay them before an extended period of intense back tax collection with heavy penalities and punishment kicks in.

Stop building new sidewalks and help elderly people with their gas bills, so they don’t go without heat. Your priorities are certainly not in order here, saving an average of six dollars a month on your gas bill is nothing to an elderly person who has to choose between eating, medicine and their heating bill.
