I have my father, sister, and her three small children staying in my home. We’re fortunate, little damage to my father’s home and most important all our family survived unscathed. Open your home to a displaced family or person. Their world has been either destroyed or forever changed and ours none at all.

I have over 21 family members (9 families)here who will need various kinds of help. Some are elderly, a few kids, my sister and brother-in-law are expecting their first-born in a couple of weeks. Any type of help or information regarding services such as temporary employment, housing etc. would be greatly apprecitated. I still can’t believe my hometown has been completely destroyed.

I have a two-bedroom condo in Smyrna that could put three people in beds and more if needed on the floor; I could even handle a small pet, although I have no supplies for them currently. There is a bus that runs past here that you can use for transportation, and I’ll even cook some hot meals for you! My cell phone number is 404-374-0620 or if you’ve got e-mail you can get me at ataru@sdf.lonestar.org. It’s just unbelievable to me how long the coast will be uninhabitable and I hope I can help in some way…

I have one furnished bedroom in a 2BR townhouse in Athens, GA to offer to a single person or a couple. I am a college student and would prefer to accomodate someone around my age. If interested, please contact me at beau@plantbio.uga.edu. The offer stands for as long as it takes to get New Orleans back to order. Short-term employment would definitely be available in Athens, and it would be a fun place for a 20-something to be.

I contacted an office in LA this afternoon to let them know that my family, which consists of my husband, three kids, and four cats is willing to open our home to another family who has been displaced by Katrina.

We can look into blow up beds and/or cots to accommodate you. My son is willing to sleep on the couch and allow his full size bed to be used by a mom and dad. Their children can sleep on a blow up bed and/or cots in the same room so you can have a little privacy.

We have two full baths, too.

Our home isn’t huge but we would be happy to help if we can.

Please email me at: jennifer@digi-one.com for further information.

Bless you all, the people extending their hearts to help. God has a blessing for us all in this. I am from New Orleans been here for two years. Most of family is fine but many have not checked in. I have my immediate family with me. We are looking for jobs here or anywhere. All are college grads with skills in many areas from service, sales, secretarial, computers to cleaning your homes. We are not as bad as most who have suffered because I have established a home here. I am thankful to see sites like this helping each other. I am proud to be FROM New Orleans, one of the greatest cities in this county. I am proud to live here in ATLANTA, a city that has helped me and now helped my family. Thanks GOD Bless you all!!!

Hi,

I have 25 family members who have evacuated N.O. Most of them have lost everything, others we don’t know about because we haven’t heard any news. I also have a brother who worked at Sewage and Water Board at the pump station who stayed behind on the activation team. The pumps failed. His neighbor called him at work to tell him water is up to the roof of his home, he lost everything. His wife is here safe. My brother is now volunteering to rescue people trapped by boat. He said the devastation is unimaginable. My family members are hard working people. They are looking for work. My goddaughter works in medical billing for Tenet Health Care, she is trying to get on board at the Alpharetta office. My sister in-law has experience working working in a rehab facility. Others family members have hotel experience. They have gone to the Red Cross for help and spoke to a rep. from FEMA. Right now they are at the Dept. of Labor looking for work or un-employment. We all are thankful for the out pouring of offer for help from the community. We have about 12 children amongst the evacuatees. One 3 year old is asthmatic and her medication cost $107.00/mo. We are hoping she doesn’t get sick. Every morning the family get together and pray, they also pray together in the evening too! I have been in a state of shock. My stomach in knots. I can hardly eat, and I am worried about their future. Please continue to pray for the citizens of N.O. they need it.

Thank you!

Do you know of a family from New Orleans that is displaced or needs a place to stay? We have room. I have a special spot in my heart for high school kids. I worry about these kids and their high school activities that have been interrupted during this tragedy. Many are counting on these activities to assist them in scholarships in the future. How about any runners or track athletes? Email me here at rlvkdeal@adelphia.net. I know MANY families who would LOVE to help!

I encourage people to go to their local motels/hotels and ask the manager if you can help these folks. (Just look at the licence plates to tell if there are hurricane refugees there). It’s taking awhile for the Red Cross money to trickle down to help them out. Also, people aren’t given information when they arrive on where to go for help at these motels. I have found many large extended families that don’t want to seperate if they don’t have to. Collect clothes from your co workers, from your neighbors. Get food vouchers from the local groceries stores (for those staying at extended stay motels). Collect money to pay for the motel stays. Children need coloring books and toys. Contact your local schools and find out how people can enroll the kids in class. Just giving them the basic information they are going to need for your area of town is a huge huge help. Also, some motels don’t have internet. If you have an extra computer, donate it to be used at the motel. There are so many things that can be done to help, even if you don’t have the money to donate. Even if it is just stopping by to listen to their story…..

We truly have some really awesome people here in Atlanta with big hearts!!! Go Team!

I have bedding (2 comforters, a few set of sheets, all pretty new) that I’d like to donate. I have lots of womans clothing size 3-6 that I was going to pack up for Good Will this weekend, but would love to help someone out from the hurricane, all in very good condition. I can buy some items for babies, children, whatever is needed. I have a single mattress, hardly used, but no frame. Can buy some pillows and towels as well. I have a CD walkman, stuffed animals, and a suite case. I may be able to take care of a small pet. I have a cat. But we have a large yard, garage area (connected to the house, we don’t park in) and even a large room in our basement. I dont think my roommate would allow the pet in the house, but I could make a nice area for it in the garage with a nice bed and some arrangement in the yard. Take care of it, walk it a lot, play with it, feed it and give it lots of nurturing. I love animals. In the Smyrna area. Let me know by emailing me at dolphin6571@yahoo.com.

To Jo and Stu,

I am also in the Gwinnett area and would like to assist in charity work this weekend to help displaced families. Your idea of a family BBQ for families who have lost so much is a wonderful idea. While we can never replace what they have lost, we can help people heal. Maybe this is something we can coordinate for families in our area. Please give me a call if I can be of any assistance. Thanks…Amy 678-521-8417

My husband and I live in Lilburn and have a bedroom available for displaced person(s)on a temporary basis - no charge of course. We also have a large room over our garage that we could offer free of charge on a long-term basis, but it needs to be finished and a bathroom installed. We would pay for all supplies and get furniture that would be needed. (Oh, yes, we have an inside dog!)
