Face it, Flyers own us
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Well, I know who I don’t want to play in the first round of the playoffs.
Oh, that’s right … The Flyers would be going to the playoffs ONLY if they played the Thrashers about 20 more times. You’d think it was Bill Barber and Reggie Leach out there against the Thrashers. Pelle Lindbergh in net, Desjardins and Therien on D. I haven’t seen a bad team own a good team like this since Pharoah’s boys implemented a triangle (OK, pyramid) defense on the Israelites. But just as star center Moses declared, ‘Let my people go,’ so, too, do the Thrash exodus out of Philly until next season.
I tip my hat to them and call them my Daddy. Thank you, Pedro.
Let’s chalk it up to fluke. Like lottery numbers, “Titanic’s” Best Picture award or the success of Kevin James.
Let’s move on and not dwell on it. Let’s no dwell on Andy Sutton’s incessant poor positioning, which basically lost this game. On goal 2, he ends up on one knee inside the Thrashers net. On goal 3, he finds himself standing BEHIND the far post when the puck is scooting free in front of the net. Was that not dwelling on it enough? Did anyone else here choke on their pancakes the other morning when they read his agent’s quote about using Jay McKee’s $4M salary as a starting point for negotiations this offseason? “If I was DW, I’d offer $1M and listen to the dial tone on the other end,” I said. To which my friend Dolie goes, “I’d offer him $500K and hang up on him myself.”
Steve McCarthy must have been sitting up in the press box tonight going, This guy’s playing over me?!?!
I promised I wouldn’t dwell on it. And another thing …
Kidding.
Wasted in this loss was the phenomenal pass from Ilya to Dupuis for the potential tying goal late … Dupuis kind of heeled it, though, and it bounced right into Biron’s midsection. What a pass, though. If Ilya keeps creating like that, his line will be tough to stop. Another strong game from Tkachuk and Belanger. Those two are godsends. And I thought Lehtonen played well. Now he gets a few days off before Sunday’s matinee vs. Buffalo. We’ll see Moose tomorrow vs. the Rangers, a desperate team that absolutely NEEDS those two points.
Till then … leave your name and message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Thank you, drive through …

Yep, sometimes a team just owns you for a year. It’s alright, Biron stole that game for them, even with Sutton’s brain farts. I would assume he’ll sit tomorrow, get McCarthy in, get Havelid off the PP.
Sutton’s in for a rude awakening at the pay cut he’ll have to take to sign somewhere ELSE this summer.
Need the 2 against the Ranjerks tomorrow.

Sori Letemin was at it again! Decisive third goal was a SOFTY. This guy will fold like Nifty Notebook Paper in playoffs. IF these GAGGERS make playoffs! Unacceptable effort not worthy of a team which fancies itself more than average. GRADE: F-! That letter begins a word which describes non-performance debacle adequately.

Apparently, a number of Flyers want jobs in the NHL more than a number of Thrashers want to win their division.
Still in the driver’s seat but now the pressure’s really on to get 3 or 4 pts out of the two home sellouts this weekend. Uh oh, did I say weekend home sellouts?

Bob,
Owned for a year? Check your math, dude. Thrash haven’t beaten Flyers in regulation since Dec. 21, 2003 — going L 5-1, L-5-4, L 4-3, W 6-5 (OT), L 4-3 (OT), L 4-2 — coming into this season, when they proceed to go L 3-2 (SO), L 2-1, L 5-2 and L 3-2.
That’s long-term ownership. That’s “Nobody Beats Vitus Geralitis 17 Times In A Row” ownership. That’s Zippy Chippy territory.
They own us. Owwwwwwwwn. Owwwwwwwn. (Slap Shot reference.)

I have nothing against the Thrasher goalie personally. I just do not see in him the grit it takes to carry a squad deep into playoffs. Backup not any better! Sigh.

I’m going to have to watch the replay tonight, guys, because I’m just not with you on the ‘soft’ third goal. I mean, both defenders were standing behind the net when the goal was scored … that’s kinda hanging your goalie out there a little bit. Even NHL goalies have a hard time stopping shots when their defensemen are behind the net.

Ice Man - good stats there, I knew all about this year, I thought we were just jinxed for pulling Moose in the shootout (wasn’t that against the Flyers? Brendan, confirm). Didn’t know it was so long.
However, when I saw that 3rd goal I immediately thought it was soft. Kari should’ve been right up against the post and it looked like it when in right under his arm. Let me know what you see on the replay.
What did he say? Owns. Owns…

Ohhhh, what a suprise! Team consistency is at it again. 0-4 vs. Philadelphia this year. Yeah, you LOSERS - keep sweating night & day to come up with ultra queer names for your lines while the team continues to prove what a true pretender they really are. Guess the shine from the big trades is startin’ to fade a bit, huh? Go back and read some of your posts from the past week - hilarious, ridiculous and just plain MORONIC - You are wannabe fans of a wannabe team - you try to take before you actually earn. That alone is why no one respects what you’re doing down there. No one is afraid of you the way you like to think. You have a dumb coach. You have crummy defensemen. You have inconsistent scorers. You have a doughboy goalie who has the heart of a mummified corpse. You can’t even sell out your arena when your GM finally gets of his azz and does something productive to spark your team. YAAAAAWN. I only wish the Wings were in the east so they could get the chance to feast on your gasping carcass first IF you mange to make the playoffs at all. WAKE UP AND ACT LIKE REAL HOCKEY FANS YOU POSERS OR GIVE THAT FRANCHISE TO A CITY THAT WILL!

Hey snot why don’t you rust away in the ARMPIT of the world… You are such a STUPID PUNK… all talk…NO action !!!!!
sutton has to be RELEASED PERIOD, NO more Atlanta Thrashers for him EVER.
$4 Million, HA-HA-HA… I would not offer him the league minimum he is finished and tonight proved it.
Then Hartley even admitted defense mistakes… SO, Why did he not say sutton stinks !!!!!
If sutton is in uniform and on the ice friday night, I think I will turn around and leave, because with him in the lineup… we are 2 goals down before the opening faceoff…

The Thrashers and Braves are classy professional teams. The Hawks are forever losers. The Falcons are drug-smuggling animal murderers! The Thrashers and Braves may not be champions but they are winners. They TRY to improve. The Hawks remain stagnant year in and year out. The Falcons get worse with the passage of time. Go Thrashers and Braves. It is a pleasure to cheer them on. Strive to excel.

We should start a pool on how many goals Sutton is responsible for each night. Next, we could start a Sutton puck bin like the hat trick bin. Fairly soon, we could sell the rubber to make car tires so he can drive out of town.

I HATE ANDY SUTTON!!! And people actually had the balls to criticize me and everybody else on here who called for his benching. He f’ing sucks. Well people, “Mr. Nice Guy” is killing us. He can go be nice somewhere else next year, hopefully in the Captain Cook league in Antarctica or some league near Chernobyl…as far away as possible from Atlanta. $4 million a year? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard in my life. I wouldn’t pay him $4 to wash my car.

Yall know what?
Nobody’s giving Marty Biron credit. That guy flat out stole that game. If you look at the tape-in the 3rd period alone, he made at least 3 spectacular saves… Still as Walt said in the article about the loss, too many 3-on-2’s not enough jump for loose pucks.
Again we are seeing that Thrasher squad that tries to “turn it on” when needed. Well that won’t cut it in the playoffs. Tkachuk mentioned this, and he should know. There were a couple of ‘Yotes teams that had a similar ethic, and they didn’t really make much noise in the 2nd season.
What I did like about this game: Zhitnik is gaining comfort and confidence with his new teammates (and vice-versa)…it’s a treat to see a D-man who pinches in effectively (Note to DeVo; this means going to the NET not the corner).
Also, during the interview with Fiddlin’ Don (or is it Dealin’ Don?)…he mentioned that Belanger and Dupuis were both “guys that we’d love to have back”…so that’s encouraging…Belanger is playing his @ss off, I would hope he can continue his good play next season should Le Thrash retain him.
Oh well, that was a tough loss, luckily the guys have a chance to wash the taste out of their mouths against the blueshirts.
LET’S GO BLUE !!!

Yeah, Tony, Biron had a pretty nice game.
But the top right quarter of the net was WIDE OPEN for Pepe Lepew or whatever that new guy’s name is on the incredible feed into the slot from Kovy in the final minutes.
Rather than slam it home Pepe or Pascal or whatever flips a little girlie shot into Marty’s midriff. My grandma could have stopped it.
If any single play comes back to haunt us, that might be it. Championship teams execute in those situations.
We better play desperate tonight.

Is it just me,…or does it seem that the only time that pathetic, dick-cheeze-munching, vile, idiotic, moronic, mamma’s-boy pucks-n-snot comes around here is after a Thrasher loss????? So I guess it’s a good thing that hasn’t been a lot lately.
Hey, F*ck-face,……hit the road you shred-of-human-debris loser.
Anyway,…..very hard loss to watch last night. But, no one expected us to win out over the last dozen or so games.
Interesting how we come up short against the Flyers, but we do so well against one of the best teams in the leage, New Jersey,…go figure.
Oh, and I remember last year when the Dead-wings came in to ATL and we dropped 7 goals on the them,……take that snot-boy.

Yes, 1 player lost the game last night?! Nice! So how many7 of you will blow your load if Sutton is not in the line up? Most? I thought so.
Get over it, There is a REASON McCarthy rides the bench. His is not that good, but since we do not see him that often, you all forget and go crazy for him.
On the power play goal the flyers scored EVERYONE screwed up from the forwards to Kari, but it is Sutton’s fault? I think not.
I am glad you all have your goat.
He came back early, which anyone would in his position would do. All the negative blogging has gotten to him, great job guys just pat your collective @$$ with KY. And Right now I think he is simply trying to hard to prove himself again, which leads to what we saw last night, and that holding call was weak!
Well I know I am the minority in thinking hockey ias a team sport. Also who the heck told the 2 jack-a-butts on Thrashers live they were any good? they have no idea what they are talking about, but you all take it as if it was the word of god.
My advise to most of you, learn to play the game before you start trying to be an armchair coach.
By the way Sutton is in the line up tonight, so all you season ticket holders call your rep and cancel your tickets. if you are men of your words.

Iceman, you’re right. They own us since Day 1. It happens, don’t sweat it, move on and get the 2 pts tonight. Crap, we beat Carolina 9-0 last year and they won a Cup. S** happens.
Thrash played well enough to win, like Tony pointed out, Biron was the difference maker and stoned many good chances all night.
Good thing we won’t have to face them in the playoffs.
Sutton will sit, McCarthy in, hopefully that’ll move Havelid off of the PP also. Get er done, Coach.

I have got to assume that Andy is tanking on purpose. I figure the rest of the league got a rep to contact him after we traded for Zhitnik (a real bona fide defenseman) since he was so ‘depressed’ because he was going to lose ice time. I bet they are giving him $50k to take the Thrashers down from the inside. That can be the only explaination.
Either that or when he broke his foot, the injury somehow manifested itself in his head in some sort of retardation. I don’t think I could prove it medically but jeez, just look at last nights game.
And I swear to all that is holy, if someone tells me “yeah, but he blocks a lot of shots” I am going to stab them in the eye.
You know its bad when you root for injury. I was rooting for Hatcher to go all Chris Simon on him.
McCarthy better be in tonight.

Don’t get me wrong; I wanted to pull my hair out the entire game. I think the Thrashers played like a pile of steamy crap. Furthermore, Philly’s goalie had an amazing game. With this in mind, I think Sutton earned the “boner of the game” award. All 3 goals came on his shift. I can’t believe Hartley didn’t pull him.

Sorry to disappoint bu Whitaker is not Sutton’s middle name.
On PK, clear the puck off the glas/boards. Any other time use what you see.
He saw hossa and was looking to pass to Hossa as Hossa was hitting the ice with his stick. A risky play but if it had work who knows what would have happened down ice.
What about Eric’s turnover on the power play to Richards? That could have lead to a short-handed goal, but I guess some how that would have been Sutton’s fault too.
So please tell me, if Sutton is on another team next year who will be the goat then? Slater? Rucchin?Hvalid? Hnidy? No Devo, right?

I am willing to blame you Whitaker…
I think you misinterpt people point of view on Sutton. All of wish him to do well. I am grateful that he tried to come back early from injury. That shows some heart. I have to admit that he played extremely well down the stretch last year. He got some very big goals. He just hasn’t emerged as a top defenseman. He is currently being overpaid (not his fault) but his time is done. He knows he’s not going to be here next year. He’s got some head issues and is playing like cat sh*t. So cut him, waive him, send him to AHL. I don’t care what you do, just get him off the ice.
It wasn’t completely his fault last night for us losing, but he had a pretty big part in it.
McCarthy isn’t great, but I bet he’s hungry. Motivated to do well.

Ryan, I don’t want to belabor the point but….
Dupuis may have had a nice game overall but in the clutch, with a GAPING net staring him the face, he whiffed on Kovy’s gorgeous feed into the slot in the last few minutes. You won’t see many better passes. Biron was playing Kovy and had no chance at a one-timer off the pass if Dupuis handled it. Instead he flipped a softball right into Marty’s gut. He did a nice job of getting into position and had the chance to get us at least 1 point and he did not get it done.
Just callin’ it like it is.

Oh, I am sorry where along the line did I twist what you all were saying? Andy SUCKS! Get Andy off the ICE! All the goals happened on SUTTON Shift! (WRONG!) His minutes have been cut thank God, now if we could get them to zero! Send him to the AHL! Buy Sutton a Ticket so he can watch the game better!
Then someone points out that on the Power Play Kari is 9/10 out of the goal or Eric Belanger gives the puck away and almost leads to a short-handed goal, you change your tune to we want all players to play well, and we do not hate Sutton you have it all wrong.
You are all so amusing!
As for this weekend’s games. Tonight is going to be a tough game both physically and mentally. I except to see more penalties taking by both team then they would like. It will be a gritty game and we might even be blessed with a fight [Tkatuk, X, or Boulton].
Sunday will be crazy, I just hope the Buffalo fans do not out do us again. In the last to home games against buffalo their fans have been much louder and passionate than the local fans have. Simply put they made the Nasty Nest look like June Cleaver’s house with the things they were chanting and how loud they were. It is great that some people take part in the game and make noise (when Prompted to), but we need everyone that is passionate about this team to not be able to speak come Monday morning.
We have a great opportunity as die-hard fans to set the tone of BlueLand for next year, when it becomes “cool” to go to a game. If we are quiet and stay in our seats then that will be what people expect. IF we are rowdy and get into the game (stand, scream, shout, and get the other people around you into the game).
By the way you can stand up on a break-a-way, you can run down and bang on the glass, and if the usher gets in you way knock him down. There are 2 ushers that I have been blessed with they have ho idea what hockey edict is… I have thought about producing a pamphlet for them.
Go Thrashers send the Blue shirts home to New York crying, and I think Buffalo stew is on the menu for Sunday.

Since you live in such a black and white world Whitaker, I will make it simple for you. Don’t play Sutton any longer. He is not wanted. He is a waste of a 6’6 frame. You forgot to tag Sutton with the FIRST goal too. Not only did he commit a STUPID holding, as soon as he got out of the box (on a nice PK by the rest of the team), he blew the clearing pass and forced Shane to take a crappy penalty to avoid a score.
Sutton has SUCKED of late and I can’t believe Bob has benched McCarthy for 8 games to witness this lousy play.
Please god tell me that McCarthy will play against the Rangers tonight, that Sutton will sit and stew on his poor play, and that Nic will take a seat on the first PP so that McCarthy can give us a(nother) shot from the blue line along with the Zhit.

Wear the sweater, but for goodness sakes, leave the name off. Only exception is if you have a real game worn sweater, then sure, that’s cool. But you look like a jock sniffer if you’re an adult and put your favorite player’s name on your sweater, it’s just gay.

Really? So all the people in hockey arenas that are supporting their players by wearing their jerseys are gay?
Wow. I had no idea. Let me go burn all my player jerseys then, I wouldn’t want to be viewed by you insanely intelligent people as gay!

Relax Moonbeam (Amy)
I enjoy knocking other fans down when they deserve it. It makes me feel like a big man. It helps me compensate for other shortcomings. Cheer for who you want to cheer for. Its no hair off your pit for me.
Is Sutton planning on taking you with him when he moves back to Moosed*ck Ontario?
So tell me Moonbeam, did you think Sutton has played well? Would you like to see him return next year?

Well, Buzilla Baby F*er, I absolutely would like to see him here next year.
So many people, even the ones bashing Andy hardcore right now, have said that he played well the end of last year and before his injury this year. And they’re correct. He did. So what changed between now and then? SURGERY. Plain and simple. What else happened? He came back too soon.
I’ll be the first to admit, he hasn’t been playing well. But there’s a REASON, he didn’t just wake up after surgery and go, “Wow, I think I wanna start playing badly.”
His ankle is not 100% yet. We know that. He can’t move like he used to, we know that as well.
You guys can hate him all you want, that’s fine. I still support him, because I have no doubt he can get back to where he was the beginning of this season.

Look, let’s all agree on one thing here - Pucks n Snutton is the worst defensman on this team. The name alone of Pucks n Snutton is the epitome of mistake prone hockey. If we are going to win, someone besides Pucks n Snutton will lead us to victory.

Shot and a beer, zilla? I am primed for tonight.
Mrs. Sutton, I mean Amy, I am yankin your chain. Girls that wear players names on their sweaters are ok, it means you’re a puck punny, but that’s ok. It’s cute.
Grown men wearing Yank-Me jersey’s with Jeter on the back are jock sniffin wannabe goofballs.
Grown male Thrasher fans with Sutton on the back are just not very well informed fans, we’re just doing our bit here to help teach them the ropes.
To summarize, when you wear your hubbie’s sweater to a game, it’s all good, it’s cute.
When zilla wears his Buzek sweater to tonight’s game, he’s just showing how badly he misses his poor, sweet, Petr.

Hey, Buzek was an all-star!!!!
Funny story Bob. I think I told you that I was talking to Odgers at Sidebar after a game a few weeks ago. We were talking about some of the players from his heyday. I was hammered and mentioned Buzek’s name….He just stared at me for a second then went back to hitting on my friends girlfriend.

I have to say, at the beginning of the season, I thought Sutton was playing VERY well, at least compared to how he had played the first couple of years with the team. But he has NOT rebounded at all from his injury.
I kept expecting him to get it turned around, after all, it usually takes a few games to get your groove back and all that. But he just hasn’t gotten it turned around since he came back. Maybe he is still hurt, maybe not…who knows? But one thing is for sure, he is not the same defenseman that he was before the injury.
Having said that, I’m more disappointed with Havelid’s play the past dozen to fifteen games or so. I think he is a man desperately in need of a couple games off. It needs to happen soon, so he can get reenergized for the playoffs (assuming this team doesn’t choke down the stretch. Hardly a safe assumption….)
My two cents.

Brian, yes it was Oct. 26th when Hartley pulled Moose in favor of Lehtonen in the shootout. So, officially, Kari lost the game and did not make any saves in the loss.

Triple B,
I didn’t fill out any NCAA brackets this year. Once Bradley didn’t get a bid, I quickly became an NIT man. Be sure to catch my dear, old Bradley Braves on Saturday at noon on ESPN against Miss St.
I’m not anti-brackets; just not that interested this year, what with the Thrash actually meaning something.
And, Bob, I’m gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on the jersey thing. I think wearing a player’s name on a jersey is a long-standing tradition with hockey fans. I don’t have a problem with it. What I DO think is bad is when you buy a famous jersey and put your own name on it, especially your first name. I can’t stand seeing some guy wearing a Red Wings No. 19 jersey with “Doug” on the back.

Slightly on topic, since we’re talking about wearing apparel at the games. Why not attempt a “blueout?” Think “whiteout,” only blue. The ad campaign advertises “Blueland.” I cannot recall even one game where the entire arena showed up in blue to show solidarity.
Now, I can see a counter-argument. “It’s been done before.” By Phoenix and Tampa, wearing white. And out in Calgary, with “redout.” But even if it isn’t exactly an “original” concept, I’d like to be at Blueland, just once, with a SEA OF BLUE JERSEYS. I wouldn’t even mind if a few of them had “Sutton” on the back. As long as it’s blue.

I got to admit I have always wondered about grown men racing to buy the newest jersey of a player half their age.
Iceman, you grew up on Long Island too, and I swear sometimes you could walk into a local tavern and be in a sea of Jets and Giants jerseys on a Sunday afternoon all with #56 for LT or whatever Klecko’s number was.
I never quite understood it as a kid and still don’t to be honest.

Brendan - thanks for the shootout info, it was like a song that I couldn’t remember the name of.
As for the “blueout”, it’s always easier to do white. I have a somewhat nice Thrashers shirt that is that shade of blue, I think I have a few of the t-shirts from this year and last that they gave away, but how many other people are going to have that powder blue color in their closet? No one is going to spend that kind of $$ on a jersey just to be part of the “blueout”.
White on the other hand, everyone has something in their closet that is white. Thoughts?

Well another BAD period… TB ahead, likely, and I will catch grief on this, I do not think we will make the playoffs.
Tonight looks REAL bad so far, Sunday Buffalo, Then San Jose and at Pittsburgh…. See what I mean ???
Just have that SINKING feeling… sutton was in lineup… So went home… Just too disgusting to watch that CLOWN any longer. Oh Well…

It wasn’t that bad of a game, LAC. The Thrashers did get 2-points. Tampa, Toronto, and Montreal all lost in regulation. That’s got to be good for our “playoff berth.” No? Yes, the Rangers did earn a point. But Atlanta helped its own cause with that win. That’s 86-points, just eight (8) shy of 94-points—the line of demarcation where no other team has failed to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
For the folks who thought we’d beat Philadelphia but lose tonight, this is effectively the same result: two-points in two games. Pittsburgh won again. I hope someone knocks them out for us!! I don’t want to draw Pittsburgh in the opening round, or have to face them in subsequent rounds. I just hope the Penguins are “peaking too soon.” Unfortunately, I see no signs of a let up on the horizon. They’re playing their best hockey at the exact best time of the year, right as they head into the playoffs.

Oh get off it folks. Sutton, Sutton, Sutton. One player does not make a loss, let alone four against the worst team in the league. If you want to take Sutton out, great. McCarthy’s not the answer. We need a replacement with grit if we want success in the playoffs. The formula for beating the Thrashers is simple: hard, physical, uncompromising play. Just take a look at our trip out west this season and you’ll see that. Players on this team better start showing up for the hard checking and body bruising that takes place in the playoffs or we’ll be out in four games.
