Slater returning to ice

Jim Slater’s shoulder passed a recent test, and Slater said he’ll be back skating “hopefully this weekend.” Add a week from when he starts skating to when he could be back in the lineup, so the earliest you’re likely to see him back at center is on the West Coast trip Feb. 15-21.

Craig Custance of Sporting News and Scott Burnside of ESPN.com both spoke with Mathieu Schneider after this morning’s skate. Look for both to write something about Schneider’s potential value to playoff contenders down the stretch.

Here’s a stat for you: Kari Lehtonen has a 92.9 save percentage in his last eight appearances.

Here’s another stat: The Thrashers have scored in only two of the 12 periods they have played since the All-Star break.

Looks like the same lineup tonight as the Thrashers used Tuesday night. Thrashers coach John Anderson likes to stick with whatever is working (when something is working).

Jeez, it is already time for our hometown ESPN reporter Scott Burnside to take another dump on the Thrashers and their fans?

Here’s your stat - the Thrashers haven’t scored in the first OR second period in their last FIVE games.

So, who’s scouting us tonight, Mike?

Smothie- I really like the idea of giving Bogosian top pairing minutes. If I remember correctly, the way things went with Coburn was he played third pairing minutes here most of the season. Once he was traded to Philly, and their season was a bust, they gave him top pairing minutes. Next season, he’s a top pairing d-man.

Alan There are ZERO scouts on the press box seating chart from teams other than the Devils and Thrashers.

Kari looks like he’s im LaLa land again tonight.

Just sick to eve watch, my TV went off after the second SOFT goal… Time to move on… This team STINKS !

Hotrod…a deflection in the crease, a terrible screen by Kovalchuk and a re-direct off of Perrins skate. Let the fool cry and whine all he wants about Kari…all it will do is prove how little he knows about the game.

OK…THAT one is on Kari…cheating to his right. His job is to take the shooter and rely on his defense to cover passes and the other players. This is just a horrible effort by all. A total embarrasment.

Hell yeah! The Finnish son of a betch I know is back. In all his mother (X) unglory! Another stellar performance in front of the two Loseland fans who thought the Hawks were in action. Who both left after the second period! Guess the cries by Mike and Rawhide for the Hall Of Fame bust were just a wee bit premature. Kari “Hic” Letemin is a damn fraud. Always has been. Always will be! Hungover again? Almost certainly! Good games? No one loses them all! Even a blind dog finds a bone from time to time. Five goals so far! Absolutely abysmal save percentage. All against those offensive juggernaut New Jersey Devils! Guess all you apologists are some damn proud of this showing. Do we have to play any more games at home? Mother (X) a##holes!

I missed the first two periods. I tuned in to see a 5-1 score. I take it … Kari was pulled in the 2nd period. How has Moose faired? I don’t know what the score was when they made the switch. At present, there’s 16:00 left in the 3rd. The score is still 5-1.

Did Kari play that badly? Or was this just as much the fault of the “team defense?” Sometimes, a goaltender, and/or a defenseman or two, has the right to look at the three (3) forwards lollygaging about and say, “It’s called ‘back-checking.’ You might want to try it.”

I will rejoice when this group skulks away to Hamilton. Captain, excuse me while I puke, Ilya Kovalchuk is as much of a fraud as Kari Letemin! No heart. No talent. No clue. No intelligence. No pride. No hope! I am thoroughly ashamed to know that these quitters represent my state. Another completely gutless effort by a totally heartless group (will not use term team) on home ice! At least Moose stopped the bleeding. Bestard John Petrino should have started Moose to begin with. Guess he feels obligated to put his illegitimate son between the pipes. Damn losers!

Kari was off, but so was the rest of ‘em. And you wonder why Spirit Boys that your losin money? ESPN power rankings this week had NJ number 1 and the Trashers was dead LAST. That’s pretty much the way it looked on the ice tonight. Man i can’t wait to see what happens out on the west coast. Can you say BURIED.

Moose got a shutout. Moose got a shutout. Moose got a shutout! Unfortunately, Kari “Hiccup” Letemin did not. Moose did not allow a goal over the final 20 minutes. A stellar 1.000 save percentage! LaLa Land wonder punk surrendered five goals (two of the shorthanded variety) in 40 minutes. Too disgusted to see what that nauseatingly low save percentage was. Know it was not in the .900 range. Sorry Mike and Rawhide! Another home ice mail-in job. Taking up collection to send quitters to Hamilton! Any donations?

I have seen this Thrashers team play a lot of bad games — the 6-1 loss at New Jersey, the 5-1 loss at Ottawa, the 7-3 loss here against Boston, the 6-2 loss here to Toronto. This one ranked right up there with the worst of them.

Since the All-Star break, it has seemed this team has one way to stay competitive: Kari Lehtonen stands on his head. When he doesn’t, this team has looked woeful.

For the rest of the season, lets use this blog to do restraunt reviews at the away games.

There is really very little else to add. Its all been said. This season deserves a fork.

How on earth will the Thrashers be able to bring in UFA help this offseason?

The entire organization is a disgrace, and Atlanta is an NHL laughing stock.

How empty is the arena going to be next year if this shameful and pathetic play continues for 2 more months.

This fanbase needs to see signs of improvement, or at least some hope that doesn’t come in a 18 year old phenom who will leave town as soon as he can. I just don’t see it.

Anderson’s inability to motivate or strategize is a big part of our problem Because he’s in his first year in the NHL, I think that we’ve tended to give him a free pass, but I am coming to believe that he does not have the motivational ability to get even a bad team “up at home” for the first period. I have lived in a number of cities with expansion teams, bad teams, rebuilding teams, etc. NEVER-NEVER have I seen a team that couldn’t get up for the first period. This is beyond the ridiculous. Bad teams- the Isles- blow us out of our building in the first period. Good teams smoke us early on and then cruise for the third, giving us false hope of a rebirth. For cryin out loud, John, bang the pipes, bang the lockers, throttle the pansies, but get them skating and hustling from the opening whistle at home. Quit giving visiting teams the home ice advantage here. Years ago in Philly, when teams came in thinking that they could take advantage of a down Flyers team, they faced the likes of Dave Schultz, Don Saleski, Bob Kelly and Moose Dupont on the opening face-off. The message was clear- you’re gonna pay a price to take a win out of this building. All we get from John is the “Kari wasn’t sharp” or “we didn’t get back to give him help”. A month ago we heard that you charged in Donnie Brilliance’s office demanding changes. Very little has changed and you’ve certainly given the appearance of “Oh well, they’re mailing it in so I’ll ride the tide and hang on to my job and my sanity”. It’s amazing how few fans booed at the end of last night’s first period. We’ve all but given up hope for this bunch of mediocre pansies. If DB and JA are at the helm next year, I’m not sure that I’ll be around to stomach another gutless season. The Glads may be bad but they try.

I’m disappointed in what Anderson had to say in regards to Kari not being sharp enough. Geeez is this the mindset of this team? “We need Kari to stand on his head every night to have a chance to win while the rest of the team can coast and suck it up?” I mean where was the energy, work ethic, and urgency the first 2 periods from the rest of the guys? It’s time to serious get rid of some of the guys who are here to collect paychecks. There are young guys like Crabb and Motzko that may not have the talent of Kovy and Little, but at least they give 100% effort and try and make things happen.

How about firing Waddell AND Anderson both?

Fraser had lesser talent to work with and had better results. OMG,this guy doesn’t even have a clue.Fire the whole damn lot!

Why do we keep seeing Army’s name in trade rumors?

It’s unclear what Esposito is going to turn out,but it’s obvious Christensen isn’t going to cut it.

Why then trade the only real compensation you got for Hossa?

Hell, the kid can’t get to stay with the same linemates more than a few games or now it seems, even periods.Someone explain to me how you get chemistry that way?

I know the littlewhiterussian line has went cold, but only way they break their funk is by staying together…… they actually had chemistry. But blockhead anderson busts them up in a panic. Kovy,Pevs and Army before the allstar break looked like that might have something going good together……..but again,MR. panic slams another button.

Why also trade our best “all around” defenseman in Havelid? Why not ask him to reup for 2 more seasons,he’s a better influence on the kids than Schneider. He was ranked 6th in the league last season for blocked shots and I think had a plus rating despite our team’s horrendous GAA……just like this season.

And why sit Valabik and/or Oystrick? THEY NEED THE ICE TIME!

The glut of 3rd-4th liners on this team needs to be got gone.

Boulton,Thorburn,Crusher,Perrin should be moved atleast for picks/prospects/a spine with some pride.

Reasoner,Crabb and Slater have actually showed something in hustle and decent play to stay together.

Sterling, our supposed top prospect coming out of Chicago, gets what 3 games averaging 5-6 minutes a game on the 4th line. Crabb gets sent back down to set an example for “bad play?”

I’ve been sick of Waddell for awhile now,but he’s got company now in that lil row boat with his coaching choice of anderson.

And,would any of you take a chance on Legace from the Blues for Kari? I think it’s time to part ways with him also,he’s very streaky. I know he faces more rubber a nite than a 3rd shift goodyear inspector…… but the “softies” are getting more and more frequent.

Thoughts anyone please?
