Peverley named NHL’s 3rd star
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Rich Peverley’s magical week had a magical ending. He was saved from being sent to the minors by being claimed off waivers, then went plus-5 with six points (a goal and five assists) for his new team, the Thrashers.
He’s not just in the NHL; he’s the league’s third star of the week, behind Pavel Datsyuk (one goal, six assists) and Mike Camalleri (five goals, one assist).
No big news at practice today. No absences. No line changes.

YAY for Pevs!!
You could tell in the interview with Trotz Saturday night that Nashville wasn’t real happy they lost him. Their loss, our gain. :D

Lets hope this lasts more than 5 games unlike Jason William’s great ATL stint. Great start though….Maybe he could be the setup guy Kovy has been starving for ever since Savard left.
Ya gotta wonder if Max on the third line (rumors are him for Schneider) will get the team on a longer hot streak…. ; )

“Max on the 3rd line for Schneider”
Max Afinogenov from Buff? Where is this “rumor” coming from?

Riiiight….HERE
Not sure if the Toronto Sun is a vaiable source, but I’ve seen this popping up on other sites…

Matt the rumor got started by the Toronto Sun, so take it for what it’s worth.

Toby beat me to posting the link. And yes it is popping up all over various Buffalo sites, but they are all linking back to this article in the Sun, so it’s the source.
As for “viability” - Garrioch has as much credibility as Eklund. I mean, we’re talking about the guy who said Pittsburgh was sending Malkin to the Kings.

Remembering how you are managing your budget to follow the Thrashers I thought you would enjoy this post on new rules at the NY Times…

ok i dont want to get ahead of myself but assuming and hoping this is true.. i do believe maxim would be a top line winger for us seeing as how we do not have a whole lot of talent. this guy has a great shot and i know its been a few years since his best years but for us this would be a solid pick up. think about it… kovalchuk on the left, afinagenov on the right, and pev setting up the russians for goals. i like the way that sounds. get it done waddell. see yall tomorrow night in blueland

Yep, Garrioch is king of the unfounded rumor.
Schneider will be moved, he’s just throwing darts guessing to whom for what.
My only guess is that Schneider will be moved to a playoff bound team and that the trade will be made on deadline day. They’ll want to keep Schneider around to teach Bogosian how to suck mightily, err, I mean mentor Bogosian, until the deadline.

As opposed to teaching him all the ways to finagle a few extra 2 min rests during a game? ;)

I agree Sara….Garrioch and Eklund make it up as they go (e5)
Sorry…..didn’t mean to cause mass hysteria in Blueland….nothing done yet…

Congrats to Peverley ! Maybe they can highlight another “net” girl tomorrow night instead of his accomplishment like they did with Little a few weeks ago.

Huzzah for Peverley, from waiver wire to Top 3 Star of the NHL is quite a feat.
I would not trade Schneider unless I was getting something more substaintial than another UFA in return.

Any news on who’s in goal?

Andrew I would be very surprised if it’s not Kari. Why would you take him out after the last two games? To save him for the Philadelphia game?

‘Hey, there’s an ownership change, why don’t you trade us your pick and you’ll get fired and I’ll hire you as a scout,” said Feaster.
How is that even legal? Talk about the good ol’ boy system…sheesh.
Afinogenov would be most welcome on the RW of Kovalchuk’s line. However, I doubt he would re-sign in Atlanta, and trading for him now is relatively useless unless Kovalchuk is dying to play beside him and Afinogenov hints he might re-sign.
Too many if’s in my opinion.

ranallo you forgot an if…like, I wonder if Afinogenov would actually be healthy for an entire season.
Mike you bring up an interesting point…who is going to be in goal against Philly? God and every Thrasher fan knows Kari can’t beat Nittymaki to save his soul - though I suppose there’s a first time for everything?

Afinogenov is a world class talent in dire need of a change of scenery and while he is an UFA, why not trade for him, see if he gells with someone, most likely Kovy. If it works, then great, try and sign him in offseason, if not, then you didn’t lose anything but Schneider (who your trading anyways). Basically a preview to see if its a road to go down in the offseason. Who knows, him, Kovy and Peverly could instantly gell, Max has serious talent but needs a change big time.
Also remember, when Schneider comes off the books, they will probably need to add some salary to get them above the floor once his 5.6 is out the door. Max makes 3.3 which will help.

BB — Agreed. However, is it better to get a pending UFA or a young prospect or package of prospects and picks?
Once again, we’re assuming Afinogenov gels with Kovalchuk (not many people have done that since Savard). Then, we’re assuming Afinogenov doesn’t take his first opportunity to test the free agent market. Also, we’re assuming Afinogenov defies his personal trend of missing at least 4 games straight due to injury in every season since 2003.
By the way, he’s been sidlined with an injured groin since January 06.
I don’t think acquiring Afinogenov at this point in the season is helpful to the Thrashers, long term or short term. IF he re-signed I’d rather him than Schneider…but as I said earlier, there are too many if’s for my liking.

Don’t forget the other trade the Thrash made back on the 13th and 14th. Jason Williams was traded to Columbus for Clay Wilson and Junior Lessard was sent the the Islanders for Brent Skinner.
Looks like they’re already producing in Chicago

Excellent opportunity the next two nights to show something Thrashers. Losing is one thing, being intimidated by hard hitting teams is another.
Oh, will they only play the Canadian Anthem tonight since we’re now a Socialist Nation as of today ?

Hey PuckHead - When I read your remarks two quotes came to mind -
1) didn’t your mother ever teach you that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing.
2) it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
We’re far from being a socialist nation. Just look at some of our European firends for example.

I know what you mean, but believe it or not, Canada already ranks ahead of us in terms of economic freedom. Really.
What I wanna know is, when is The Chosen One’s karma kickin in? He’s been Da Man #44 for 2 hours now and stock market’s still tanking, homes still not selling, and business still stinks. What gives?

Can’t we all just get along in our new Abomination, I mean Obama-nation now?
Someone clue me in on the VS blackout tonight? I see the Habs feed on Channel 772 (No HD), but will it be blacked out here since it’s the national VS game? Or will they allow it since the VS game is from Ottawa?

no no, the VS game is Ottawa vs. somebody. We have no local coverage, so I see the Habs feed on 772, but wondering if that’ll be blacked out since VS has a (different) national game going.
