White misses practice, expected to play

Thrashers center Todd White got kicked in the foot during the third period of Wednesday night’s loss to Ottawa and missed practice on Thursday but is expected to play Friday against Toronto, coach John Anderson said.

Here are some quick thoughts from Wednesday night:

—Eric Perrin, Chris Thorburn and Erik Christensen not only produced a goal for Thorburn but also seemed effective all night, with a centering pass from Christensen for Thorburn inches away from connecting for what would have been a sure goal. Perrin has fought through a lot this season and would surely like more ice time than the 11:39 he got Wednesday night. Still, one of these guys could be in the press box for the Toronto game, assuming John Anderson wants Eric Boulton on the ice for that one.

—Rich Peverley won 12 of 15 faceoffs and seemed very aware of his defensive responsibilities. Blueland Blog man Ben Wright pointed out that Peverley’s 18:53 was a career high. Anderson would have liked to ease him in a bit more but had to put him out there a lot in the third period with the team down a goal.

—Mathieu Schneider gives the team some of the physicality it needs but takes a lot of penalties. The numbers are huge: a team-high 20 minors in 31 games. Only Boris Valabik is taking minors at a higher rate: 19 in 26 games. On a team that’s as bad at killing penalties as Atlanta is, penalties are especially costly.

Thanks AJC! For what? For that wonderful color photo of an obviously hungover Kari Letemin in net. Do I care if he is an unrepentent boozer? Hell no! I could care less if he boozes or drugs his way into eternity. I do care that he brings his damn personal problems onto the ice with him! Unprofessional to the max. What more should we expect? Hey John Petrino! Are you in the habit of allowing hungover players to take the ice at game time? If so, you are not much of a damn coach! It is obvious to anybody with eyes (not Toiletlid apologists of course) that Kari Letemin was hungover while in net during a recent game. Do you condone this shet type of behavior? If so, you should be tossed out on your a## immediately! Along with that lush Lehts (to use his cutesy apologist nickname). Such conduct has no place in professional sports. Hell, any kind of sports for that matter! Defend that apologists.

My old roommate bowled a “300” while he was tremendously hungover.

Thanks for info on roommate. Congrats. Guess it is fine for supposed pro athlete to compete after all-night partying binge. Oh well. Everyone has an opinion. I think it is extremely inappropriate and should never be condoned or tolerated! Guess I am in minority on this site. Always will be. Let the son of a betch sleep it off in alleyways around arena. Does not belong on ice!

You have no proof other than your eyesight (which we don’t know is 20/20) that Lehtonen was hungover. I don’t take to heart the opinion of one loudmouth on a public blog. Shame on you for slandering Kari’s name with just words. There are lots of reasons he could have had a bad night (and I’m not saying he didn’t), but I’d put a re-injured back or groin over alcholism. Those, at least, can be substantiated. You’re just full of hot air and mean-spiritedness.

Folks can be really brave when your face and real name aren’t linked to your opinion. Makes you a really big man, eh?

Who knows enough about hockey to talk about the SPORT, not slam a person’s character?

Knobs,

I’d say Valabik’s penalties have more to do with his inexperience and aggression; Schneider’s penalties have more to do with his age and significantly declining skills.

Yep, one good thing from this year is Boris and some others are getting valuable ice time at NHL speed. Schneider is surely helping the one ice development to some extent, though he probably can’t help much on positioning from the penalty box.

As cold as it is, the ice should be solid tomorrow night :)

Take a closer look at Valabiks 19 minors, I bet half are coincedintal for roughing. He dosen’t put up with any B.S. in his crease and usually takes the other teams forward to the box with him.

Talentless Heartless Rotten A##holes Shetty Hopeless Eunichs Rancid Scumballs

WHAT DOES IT SPELL?

YEAAAAAA TEAM!

Will ride three sheets in the wind goaltender, impotent scoreless offense, laughable porous defense and absolutely clueless coaching to the Stanley Cup finals.

Of course I also expect to win the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.

Both might occur within the same general time frame.

When that time comes someone remind Lucifer to bundle up!

God bless all except Sam(antha?) who is an anonymous blogger who defends self centered drunken boozers who show up in such a state at game time then get not only to play but start.

Amen.

Dude I was just being funny.

I’m pretty sure if KL is showing up to work too hungover to be effective, that we’d see Moose get the start.

Maybe not.

Maybe he plays better drunk.

My point was-you don’t know what you’re talking about, you just conjecture (although a vicious hangove would explain some stuff).

Sam. If I misjudged your intent I apologize. Inflections do not translate well in print. As a writer of four decades plus I understand this. Do not find a damn thing humorous about Thrashers or Kari Letemin. Sorry if it was a misunderstanding. Be well. Good night.

Matheiu Schneider should be on the next bus, plane or car out of town. His game has been long gone. His skills have seriously waned and therefore he takes too many lazy penalties. If DWad was not happy with Jason “the glider” Williams, he surely can’t be happy with Schneider.

Fans and bloggers - there may be some truth to the Lehtonen partying rumors. Not so sure about this year, but I have some friends in hockey circles (and Atlanta social circles) that postion Kari as a young kid who enjoys the night life. I know for a fact it was one of Hartley’s concerns when he was coarch. I’m not gonna say these allegations are true until i would see it with my own eyes…but Kari’s lack of focus and propensity for awful daytime/late afternoon games make we wonder some time.

Kari is a talented goaltender who I hope can realize his full potential. Unfortunately I fear his time is running out here and potentially as a starter in the NHL until he gets a “Scott Clemmenson” as a back-up with some other NHL team.

Knobs… I enjoyed the Kovalchuk article. It’s always good to put Kovy’s youth in perspective, (ie. Crabb and Oystrick are older than him). The same point can be made about Lehtonen.

These guys have been playing since they were 18, right out of the draft. It’s easy to think Kovy’s “been here forever” and the team isn’t winning, he must be close to leaving. I’d say Kovy has another 5-7 years before he has to worry if he’s “ever gonna win a Cup”.

We talk about adding prospects to the roster like Armstrong, Enstrom and Christensen… all these guys are roughly the same age as Kovy and Kari.

dhj_1962…Just a reminder, the NHL draft is lottery balls, like the NBA. We could be the worst in the league and still end up with the 7th pick.

Gavahokie - Minor correction, we could be the worst but end up with 2nd overall. Under NHL lottery, you can’t loss more than 1 position or gain more then 4 position, which is why only the 5 worst team have a chance on the 1st overall.

Yep, which is why it’s very important to finish in last place this year. That guarantees us either Tavares or Hedman who are both can’t miss prospects.

Someone above said it well, DW HAS to be frustrated with M. Schneider’s “contributions” this year. He was brought in to add experience, offense from the back line and to mentor Bogo. Instead, Bogo has been hurt, MS has been dinged here and there and he hasn’t played all that well or consistently when he has been in the lineup.

I often watch him feeling like he is free-wheeling it on the ponds of his youth - “Hey, I’ll just pinch in here — oops, I missed it. Oh well, I was playing “the system”“. or how about…”Hmmm. I was brought in here to add offensive punch from the blue line, let me wind it up and…oops, blocked..there they go down the ice to our main main Kari..and GOAL!”

I mean honestly, MS has not been very responsible this year and been a total disappointment. I wonder if the team got on a roll (snicker) if he would change his ways.

And speaking of Kari, I have been patiently waiting for him and really hoping he was our guy — but after the Florida game, I am ready to let it go. And the Ottawa game was no better. Sure, he had a shutout against NJ but the team played better around him. He just doesn’t have the mental fortitude to be a #1 keeper on this team. I’m not sure if we can get anything for him, but with Pavs’ performances earlier and now a possible injury, my confidence in our goaltending in the organization is starting to waver. I suppose Pavs is the experiment next year. But I can’t honestly see DW or whoever is GM re-upping with Kari unless he totally turns it on over the next 2-3 weeks. Otherwise, Pavs will be in net for “proof of concept” time the last 20 games or so.

Looking forward to seeing the new lines again tonight and tomorrow and Bogo again. Go Thrash!
