Long wait for Boris

Boris Valabik hasn’t played in two weeks, since Mathieu Schneider’s return from injury. He’s clearly the seventh best defenseman on the roster, though he does add some size and fighting ability others don’t have.

The Thrashers are halfway through six games in nine days. So, do you play Boris, or do you keep him in the press box? If you play him, who sits?

“A slapshot in the foot, somebody gets sick, you’ve always got to be ready,” Thrashers coach John Anderson said Saturday. “Boris played very well for us when we put him in. I have no problem putting him in. Right now we’re going to stay with what we have, and he’s got to be ready. He’s got a good attitude. I know it’s hard on him, but he’s working hard out there [in practice] and always ready.”

With back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday at Montreal and Ottawa, it makes sense to have him with the team. But if everybody’s healthy after those two games, maybe the Thrashers should consider sending Valabik to Chicago so he can play a Friday game at Peoria and a Saturday game at Chicago against Rockford. The Thrashers have only one game this weekend, Saturday at the New York Islanders.

That would be one game…next weekend

I don’t really have anything to say about Boris, but I was at the Thrashers-Caps game in Washington on Wednesday. I’ve never seen a less talkative, more passive bench — our seats were right behind the Thrashers’ bench. I found it somewhat alarming how little passion I saw.

And I know they played the night before, but come on!

The only thing I saw that looked like remote interest in the goings on on the ice was Slava’s polite opening of the bench door the entire game and Ilya reading Jim Slater the riot act at one point during the game. The rest? They looked like zombies on a long haul flight to China.

They didn’t even speak to each other. Or yell at the players on the ice (opposing or otherwise) or the refs or anything. That can’t be normal.

I think the real question is with the way Oysterick has come on strong, do you keep Bogy up or send him back to junior and not use up a year of his contract that will make him unrestricted sooner.

I think the right choice for the present and the future is to send him back down. While he looked ok in the few games he played, Oysterick has looked better than him, and I don’t see what there is to gain by keeping Bogy up.

Of course, I’m sure Donny Boy realizes that he won’t still be around when Bogosian becomes a UFA so who knows what his though process is

This team could use a real infusion of grit. Put Valabik and Hoffman into the mix now that his hand has healed. Sit Schneider who is a real liability on D. or Exelby who can be counted on to pull a bonehead play at a crucial time- penalty or lost stick, etc. I don’t see what Boulton adds to the team and while Thorburn got a goal and goes to the net, nothing happens. Bring back Stuart to the PK. Both Stuart and Lavallee looked good in their brief appearances last year but Donnie seems fixed on the “dead wood” duo of Boulton and Thorburn.

I heard someone else mention putting hainsey amd scneider on a pairing. I would love to see what those two could accomplish. I say bench X and bring up Boris. We need the size and if we are going to rebuild let’s do it with our new guys.

Scneider is a great player and I can see his skill shine through. I think he is used to a better pairing. Don’t give up on him. He was doing well with bogo.

Hope Crabb does better today. Friday was not so good for him.

Boris is the worst d-man we have now, but I wouldn’t be opposed to sending a “step it up” message to #2 by relegating him to the press box for a night. It will be interesting to see what happens when Bogo comes back. Oystrick’s been playing well enough to keep that spot.

Thrashers can do their bit to keep this weekend from Hell alive! Dawgs routed at home by Tech! Congratulations Jackets. Falcons on West Coast to face Chargers. Should win but who the Hell knows? Ice guys start in a little while. Who is in goal? Check that. Does not matter! What’s-His-Name, Moose Lehtonen and Kari Pav all the same. Sieves with a capital S! John Petrino has a no-score offense. Defense is defenseless! A professional team has to really be utterly putrid to finish dead last among peers. Are Thrashers skating that way?

It sounds like the Thrashers are playing like dog doo according to Dan Kamal on the radio. They are going through the motions in a 2-2 game in the third period.

ugh…

Our D tried to do to much today, and it caught up with us.

This team lacks forwards with skill, size, grit, and talent. At least if we had enough forwards capable of putting a couple of passes together John Anderson would have a chance of running his offense.

That is not something that can be fixed this year, and I doubt it is something that Don Waddell is capable of fixing…considering he thought he addressed some of those issues by trading for EC.

However, as short term fix I would recommend giving Nathan Oystrick a shot at W. He has a good shot, can pass the puck, and plays with a little sandpaper.

More unacceptable bullsh+t from the Thrashers! No guts! No desire! No balls! No damn talent! Send the untalented quitters packing! Losing to the fu+king Blues? How low can this toilet residue sink? To Hell with all of them! John Petrino is a piece of sh+t as a coach. Hey apologists, tell me again how great these worthless scum are! Can we PLEASE get the Flames back?

Who the Hell needs What’s His-Name?

His excuse-ready understudy Kari Pavs (who failed to hold a lead plus gave up fatal third period markers in yet another defeat) whined:

“We played a good first period (if you say so sieve) and then we stopped playing (that should not surprise any Thrasher watcher). It’s a frustration (ya think?). It’s another close game (that is all apologists ask for) and we lost again (apologists do not care if game is close). We need to win a game (no fu+king joke bright boy) and it doesn’t matter how (keeping pucks out of the damn net would help).”

I guess Schneider’s upper body injury will give Valabik a shot.

Hey ajc - it’s time to boot stendec..his comments are not within blog ethics and I can’t believe meet the standards set forth by this media outlet. Time to ban Stendec….I enjoy all of the other good posters, who have something intelligent to say and don’t take personal shots at bloggers or players. Time for Stendec to go….
