Face the music
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Here’s a link to the music the Thrashers play in their locker room after every locker room
My story explains what’s up.
Mathieu Schneider didn’t practice on Tuesday and is still day to day with a strained hip flexor. I did see him at the practice facility, though he was too far away for me to ask him a question.
Kari Lehtonen was back practicing with the team and looked good to go, and he said he is, too.
The team did Hockey School 101, lots of drills in small groups. One group skated around a water bottle that required them to make a sharp cut near the net. Then they had to shoot to a goal covered with a piece of material that blocked off all but the corners.
Another group bounced a puck off a piece of wood to a teammate, who had to shoot the rebound into the net.
Another group stick handled around a cone with a heavy puck.
With the next game not until Friday, it was time to work on fundamentals.
Nothing new on a goalie trade. I think the timing would be a bit screwy for that.
Brendan asked about the double post. What happened is, I accidentally typed over my blog from the day before, then realized my mistake and copied to a new one. That blog is gone forever, but your responses to it aren’t.

Now that is music to my ears!
Not so much that they’re pumping Basshunter at volumes loud enough to shake San Francisco Bay, but it’s nice to get an idea of what the team enjoys.
I was highly amused by Anderson’s comment.

What’s a heavy puck?

Just a puck that is heavier than a normal one… usually they are a different color, like neon orange or blue.

What interesting music that is! Mike Knobler had me in stitches with this line, One listen on YouTube and you’ll know that the “bass” in “Basshunter” refers to low-frequency sounds, not large-mouthed fish.
What ELSE did we learn? Well, if I find out that Kovalchuk won’t re-sign with the Thrashers because Eric Boulton just has to listen to country-music, I’ll have Boulton banned from the league. :) Seriously, for a guy who was ‘rather fortunate’ to have his contract extended this year, he’s pretty aggressive with the tunes’ control. But, apparently, not nearly as much as Jason Williams is. Like a true dictator, he bypassed the lockerroom vote and assumed control, like it or not. Luckily, he hasn’t been overthrown just yet.
We also learned that Kari Lehtonen didn’t much care for Marc Savard’s taste in music. In an unrelated matter, it makes me wonder just how Bobby Holik would have viewed Basshunter’s music? What are the odds he’d simply say, “turn it off,” rather than “turn it down?” I keep trying to find a quote from any Thrasher player that reads, “We really miss Holik. There’s some serious ‘pining’ going on. Maybe Jersey will put him on waivers. We really want him back.” Haven’t found that quote yet.

So I actually enjoy the current poll ?. I usually don’t.
I wonder what everybody’s consensus is on Z-bo returning to the big club once the Dr.s and HGH are done?
I figure he won’t be back til February’s 1st week at best.
At that point (sunny-day real estate ahead folks), assuming we’re “in the hunt”-do you want to mess with the chemistry in the room?
Can the kid come back (the house bets yes)? Will he be the same (I say yes)? Is it better to let him go back to Jr.’s than to have him only play like 7-12 min a game?
I dunno. At this point, I’m thinking it might be better for him to go back to Jr.’s and get his confidence back.

Who wants to bet that Kovalchuk doesn’t make the roster?

Kovy will make the roster… he just won’t start.
It’ll be Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Markov, Chara and Brodeur… if I had to wager.

Hey guys, yall all know how much I loathe Eklund, but I have to give him his props on his latest campaign: Write-in Tim Thomas.
This guy has been at the top of the league in SV% the past couple of seasons, and I think everyone would agree that Thomas is a HUGE part of Boston’s recent success.
Plus we’re talking about a guy who was a 33-year-old rookie!!! Great story, good guy, and anyone who is a grown-@ss man playing hockey and goes by “Timmy” outside the rink is OK with me.
So along with Hainsey, let’s write in ol’ Timmy Thomas

Tim Thomas may not be the most technically sound netminder in the league—in fact, he’s crazy-floppy—but he might be the scrappiest player in the league. That guy never stops on a play. He’ll fight to the death.
Boston is a good place for him. He’s like the little red-headed Irishman at the end of the bar that no one ever messes with because someone once through him through the plate glass window, and he came back in with a shard of glass and stuck it in the guy’s face.

The Thrashers have recalled goalie Ondrej Pavelec (Pavs) from their minor league affiliate in Chicago and don’t expect What’s-His-Name (WHN) to be able to play in Friday’s home game against Carolina or Sunday’s game at Philadelphia. WHN missed practice Wednesday after re-injuring his back on Tuesday. WHN has been out since an Oct. 30 road loss to the New York Rangers, first because of illness (hic) and then because of back stiffness. He practiced Tuesdsay and said he was OK in an interview afterward, but Tuesday night Gwinnett Gladiators goalie Charlie Effinger got a call telling him the Thrashers would need him to practice with them on Wednesday. Pavs has appeared in three games while WHN has been out, winning two after playing only the third period in a loss at New Jersey. The Thrashers sent him back to Chicago (dumb F+++++S) after Sunday’s game at Carolina, when they thought WHN was healthy.
How about it apologists?
Convinced yet?

Would you please put me back in the will for one-half of the double wide?

Tony C. — He made the All-Star team last year, I don’t see the urgency in starting a grassroots write-in campaign.
Though scrappy, I don’t consider him the best goalie in the Conference. Backup, sure, but a starter…not in my opinion.

HEY RENALLO 10 [IN AT] AND YOU SEE SORRY KARI LEHTONEN AS A STARTER HUH !!??

erock — In the All-Star game, no. For this team, yes. Lehtonen has the ability to be a starting goalie, I’m sorry you don’t like him nor see those abilities. However, nobody around here (to my knowledge) has claimed he’s All-Star quality, at this point in time.

StenDICK, if Kari does leave this team what in the world will you have to talk about? You’re a nonsensical, one-trick pony. You know nothing about ice hockey and, besides your disturbing hatred of Kari Lehtonen, have ZERO to contribute to the discussion of the Thrashers and the sport.
You need kari to stay in order to give you something to go off half-cocked about. Otherwise, you got NOTHING!
Then again, maybe trading Kari would be a good thing for us in that light. I might just mean you go away. And that alone would raise the level of discussion in here.
You’re a fool StenDICK.

Steely Dan (do you have to embarrass rock group by swiping their name?). Oh well. Since you called me out - again. Do not usually respond to unintelligent thugs but will make an exception in your case. What’s-His-Name has no talent. He will drag this franchise down with him if that is allowed to happen. WHN may one day become a franchise goalie elsewhere but not in Atlanta. Has always lacked focus, mental toughness plus the ability to carry a team through rough games. WHN brings his team DOWN during GOOD games. I see WHN as a cancer to a team I love and cheer for. Glass groin (certainly), bad back (so he contends), alcohol problems (can only spectulate) and issues (no doubt). If a friend of yours had an outwardly visible cancer would you not warn him? Would you not want him to have it removed so that he could be as healthy as possible? I believe you would. Think you are a decent individual. Put Falcon Keith “No Tackle” Brooking in same category as WHN. Posted for years against Falcon DeA++hole Hall! Sorry the truth hurts. Want Thrashers to succeed. Believe team possesses best opportunity for success without WHN. I sinply cannot state me case any simplier than that. On All-Star ballot? HELL! Also, I am no fool.

Again, StenDICK, you make my point. You are a one-trick pony when it comes to the Thrashers. You can only blast the goalie that night in and night out has to face 35 SOG. Name me any goalie in this league that has survived given that, you tool.
Outside of the mindless ranting and raving about Kari, you have NOTHING to offer here. Yea, you want them to win, great. But all you can do is whine and complain about one player, the goalie.
We have won games or gone into OT BECAUSE Kari stopped 33 of 35 shots. But you will come on this blog and blast him for the two he let in even though we won or gained an OT point BECAUSE of his great play, proving that you are a moron!
We don’t give rat a$$ about the Falcons or any player on that team. Go hang out on that blog and spout your idiocy please. I’d probably raise the IQ on both blogs if you did.
So in closing, to everyone out there…..stenDICK hates Kari Lehtonen. Nothing he will do will please stenDICK. There, now you do not have to come here anymore. I’ve said it for you.
