Harry Potter - dead or alive
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Do you want to know if Harry lives or dies? Hey, it’s easy to find out. Leaked copies of the book have been appearing on the Web for a while. You can read about all the leaked versions in the story linked here.
My guess is that some of the leaked endings are correct. But since you’ll find Harry dead in some places and alive in others you’ll need to wait for the book to be sure.
But all this fuss does underline a couple of things: The ownership of information has been changed forever by the free-wheeling Internet, and it’s clear that you can find any answer you need on the Net as long as you don’t care if it’s right or wrong.
I’ve avoided linking to any of the many blogs and sites with these spoiler endings. For those who want to check things out, a simple Google search like this:
“harry potter”
will take you to screenfuls of blogs and Web sites that breathlessly reveal the ending - or competing endings.
Me? Hey my money is on Harry. He’s a durable magician and I think he’ll escape with his life. Don’t worry - it’s just a guess, I haven’t had an e-mail from JK Rowling in ages.

I do not believe that Harry Potter will die. Perhaps lesser characters will meet their end, but there is much more merchandise to sell, and a few more movies to make. They would not want their franchise to lose any available cash.

For whatever it’s worth, I also really, REALLY doubt she will have Harry killed off … I mean, good has to triumph over evil Lord Voldemort, right? It’s all very nicely set up by the end of the sixth installment that Harry’s going to try his best to defeat Voldemort once and for all.
Of course, it won’t be easy and I’m fairly sure there’ll be at least one close call — aren’t there always in stuff like this? — but Harry HAS to triumph.
Fans all over the world will be SOOOO disappointed if Harry dies! Including me!

My vote is that he lives. The prophecy isn’t that they both die, it’s that one lives. And no one but Harry call kill Voldemort, and we can’t just leave the world at his hands. I do believe Snape is a goner for sure, but I think Ron & Hermonie will make it as well.

Harry will live…..I also wrote my ideas of what we learn on another AJC blog. None of what I said came from anything other than my own thought processes after reading the books, Leaky Cauldron, and interviews w/JKR.
What I do not understand, technology or no, is why people MUST spoil other people’s fun. Don’t we have one of those choices that Dumbledore is so fond of here?

I agree completely, Fulton Mom. I made a point of not looking at the blogs I trust most - I don’t want to know before I read the book.
I do think I’m right - and you are right - Harry will live

I think he’s toast.
She’s been working this from the beginning. Who’s the kid who’s grandmother sent him to Hogwarts? Longbottoms, right? He’ll turn out to be the hero.
Look, our age has never seen evil triumph. This is a cruel world. I like Harry. He’s a cute kid. And, he and Ginny (sp?) are a cute couple. But …
Neville coming back and defeating Volemort would be so just … and great literature. Talk about good over evil!
The big question is whether or not Rowlings is capable of writing great literature. Guess we’ll know soon enough.

Ever consider that both Voldermort AND Harry die in the end. The line in the book was “one cannot exist while the other lives.” You can’t have good without evil, as those are the two extremes of each choice we make. A coin cannot have only one side.
Didn’t we have the same uproar with Paul McCartney in the 1970’s “Paul is dead speculation” with hints if you played a record backwards that led to the sales of the Beatles final albums?

I think Harry will die. Only because of the authors life when she started writing the books. Her mum died while writing the first novel. And she wanted to show children what death is. (you would have to read her expo on cnn) I think she will kill him off as a hero. Then he will be with his folks agian. In the last installment, I think with harry teaching the other kids magic it just seems that he will die. He has passed on the education to them and now he will have a last battle and good and evil will die. Kind of shocking, but hey thats the way to end a good series.
