Got a GT wind chime from my wife. Also got an earful from a 16 year old UGA fan at the family lunch today about “1 in 8 years”. Told him by the time he is 21 it will be 5 out of the last 13! Going to the PEACH BOWL! GT 38, LSU 21!!!!!

Yes, the BB team is bad, and they are hard to watch, but this will be a great 2 days for my 17 yr. old son and I to share together.

Got the new GT Vault—good stuff! Bball tix for me, my dad, and my 15 yr-old for the 30th. Got the new “Ga State Champs” T-shirt with the score on the back.

Oh, and looking forward to talking trash with all my UGA fan relatives (fans, but not grads) at a family gathering today.

Side note: It is time for us fans to storm D-Rad with e-mails about the lack of GT merchandise available. I spoke to someone whose father owns the fan store at the Mall of GA (not Fanatic Fans, but the other one). She said that GT is very restrictive over their trademark, so there are not many companies that can produce items with the logos. And this guy is a huge GT fan, so he would get more stuff if he could. IMO, even the bookstore’s selection is limited (I like Tailgater’s Alley better). I was also told by the folks at Tailgater’s Alley that the Memory Company that makes the GT Santa Claus collectibles is no longer offering Tech stuff. This is the last year.

I took my daughter college shopping this summer. We went to Auburn and Clemson (she is not an engineer, and I won’t send her to UGA!) and I was amazed at the number of fan stores in those two small towns and the variety of the merchandise. I was embarrassed for Tech.

Anybody out there willing to join me? D-Rad needs to know. I’m tired of Tech stuff being shoved in the corner of the store while UGA gets all the window space.

Tech stuff is not as easy to find, but it’s out there you just have to look for it. I got a GT apron, which I wore last night preparing our families Xmas feast. I got a great GT pull over with the authentic GT logo. And I got a nice GT calendar which I will proudly place on my office desk.

One thing I would like to see is some more retro GT stuff, you know, with the old GT buzz (looks more like a wasp than a yellow jacket). I have some mugs with the old logo and folks always want to know where I got them (twenty five years ago at Engineer’s bookstore).

Agreed on the retro GT stuff with the “old” Buzz.

Tech being restrictive on the use of Tech logos is BS. I used to work for a company that made licensed apparel, and my only complaint about Tech was that they were slow about turning around approvals of new merchandise.

As long as you follow some simple rules regarding trademark integrity (no “Georgia Tech University”, make sure Buzz has 4 teeth showing, for example), they will approve anything within reason (e.g., no more graduated shot glasses with “Yellow Jackets” at the top and “Bulldogs” at the bottom, no sexy underwear, etc.).

Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC, www.clc.com), OTOH, is a bureaucratic PITA. Tech (who does their licensing through CLC) needs to get them to quit being so slow, expensive, and bureaucratic. Maybe Tech needs to switch to Licensing Resource Group (LRG, www.lrgusa.com ), like NCSU did, or go independent, like VT did. I know of companies that were approved by Tech and turned down by CLC.

My wife got bowl tix for our family. Since I was in Baghdad all football season, she said “I just thought you’d like to see a game in person.” What a great catch she is. I did get to see six games on TV, but looking forward to being with the crowd.

I also got the GT Vault. Awesome!

Over here in SC the local YMCA sells lamps with a USC logo or a Clemson logo or a UGA logo. I don’t get the UGA logo here in SC. Anyway the USC and Clemson lamps sell for $ 195. The UGA lamps are priced at 1 for $10.00 or 2 or $5.00. They must have a hard time getting rid of the UGA lamps.
