I passed Roddy Jones on my way to church this morning. He was still running and had made it to Peachtree and there was no one in sight.

haha… Last night when we welcomed the team home some of the other players led a “Roddy Jones” chant as they walked from the Athletic Association.

Josh Nesbit seemed very very tired/hurt/on pain medication… I hope he is ok. He really showed a lot of heart and leadership at the end of that game. What a great finish!

Dwyer kept hitting it up the middle. When Roddy hit the corner the Dawgs were all cheating in. Wow, even if they got to Roddy they could not tackle him. Boy that was so fun to watch. People buy tickets to our bowl game. Even if you don’t go buy the tickets and I am sure you can donate them to a charity in what ever city we play in.

Hey Tech fans,

Please answer this simple question. Do you honestly think Tech will ever beat Georgia 7 years in a row?

I don’t. Wait…yes…they have a chance if Georgia keeps their DC. He’ll be gone next year after Tech beats them again.

But 7 years? The triple option is a gimmick that eventually is going to run out. The only way it is successfull is against undisciplined thug defenders like Miami and Georgia. I seem to remember less flashy, 2 and 3 star athlete defenses handling tech’s high school offense just fine. Insert UNC and Gardner-Webb. But good for Tech and bad for Georgia. Georgia will have to stop recruiting thugs from Techwood homes if they want to stop Tech’s offense. And they will. They learned their lesson.

So enjoy it. You beat us fair and square and didn’t even need any help from the officials this time(Joe Hamilton, Jasper Sanks). You beat us straight up.

To win games in bitter contests such as this, you need some luck. Georgia had that luck(I’ll admit it) in 2004(5 down Reggie Ball), 2006(mystery fumble), and a little luck last year. So Tech was due. And that luck came in the form of “Pick Six Stafford” and our savior freshman kick returner, Richard Samuel. Take those two bone head plays away, and Georgia guts out another pathetic win and I’d still be unsatisfied but not as upset as I am now.

So enjoy it. Don’t get too cocky. And you might want to refrain from taking the hedges and putting them in your mouth. Who’s the dog now? You guys claim to be the intelligent ones. Maybe Georgia will send their pathetic tackler Reshad Jones to steal one of the hub caps from the nerd mobile ya’ll keep in the high school stadium.

Enjoy it. You win this time.

Charlotte Dawg - you seem a little down. Have you considered counseling? You need to remember Tech still owns the record for consecutive wins in this series. And if you want to talk about officiating, don’t forget about the phantom pass interference call when your OC was still playing QB. Fair is fair.

Note to Tech: The SEC will trade South Carolina for you to come back home. I have to admit I was pulling for UGA because they were the SEC team, but deep down I knew they wouldn’t be able to stop the triple option. Still, UGA loses because of mental mistakes. Enjoy the win and the bowl. Somewhere in the great beyond Burdell, Dodd and Lothridge are smiling down on you. Roll Tide.

All you nerds that I used to stuff in lockers in high school still haven’t answered my simple question. Again, you guys claim to be the smart ones which is pairing arrogance with arrogance.

Do you really think the triple option will beat Georgia 7 years in a row?

If this question is too difficult to answer, how about another one. Will Tech every beat Georgia by a margin of…let’s say 52-7? Thought so.

Yes, fair is fair. That’s why I wrote it you dumb a$$!

And there are not many people on this blog for such a “glorious victory”. Oh that’s right, they are on the Georgia blog rubbing it in. 1 win after 7 years of defeat. Yep, you guys should be celebrating. Maybe it is b/c most tech fans are from India, China, or the Middle East. I heard Al Queda has good benefits and an excellent 401K plan.

They say every dawg has its day. The same can be said with Nerds. Congrats. You finally beat your big brother at something. Well done.

Hey Charlotte Dawg, thanks for the props somewhat but come on, if you want to take plays out of a game and say we win, then take the TECH fumble out of 06, the Ball interception inside the 5 in 05, blah, blah, blah and TECH wins about 3 of the last 4. You’re right though, UNC “held” us to 325 yards rushing, much much less than the pups did. In the GW game we’re playing with our 3rd string QB who’s more of a pro style QB who probably runs the 40 in about 5.0. To be honest though we truly enjoyed running over the prone doggies in our “high school gimmick” offense. You see a gimmick is something you do once or twice and get away with it, an option offense is a system when run correctly (read correctly/blocked correctly) cannot be stopped. Why, b/c the defense can’t be right. If you take the dive the QB pulls it. If you take the QB he pitches and if the defender that has the pitch is blocked (like Saturday) it’s lights out. When you have a fullback that takes more than one guy to hold him to less than 4-5 yards the defense is in trouble. Watch the film from Saturday or any TECH game, when Dwyer gets held to a couple of yards generally there is more than one defender on him which of course is going to spell trouble on down the line. Can TECH beat Ugag 7 in a row, probably not but we’ll give it a shot. Right now we’re enjoying this one. I enjoyed that victory Saturday but I enjoy it even more when boneheads like you run your mouth and come up with pathetic excuses. The one disappointment was that TECH really didn’t beat a very good Ugag team. I honestly thought going in we would win by 9 or more. Take it easy on your DC. The problem Saturday and most games this year isn’t schematic but personnel. Maybe you guys need to get off the stop watches and such and get more into a kids character and make up. I was very impressed with Richt’s prompt action in suspending that 3rd string center. If he had been a starter the process would have been handled internally or “we’re withholding punishment pending our own investigation”. What a Bobby Bowden disciple!!!

Wrecker1,

You are pathetic. You beat a team that expects to own you every year. When ya’ll win, it is like the second coming of Christ. When we win, we are pi$$ed that we didn’t win by more. That’s the difference. Your like the annoying little brother some of us had that always wants to challenge us in back yard basketball, wrestling, etc. Once in a blue moon, you win. That’s life. But we are still the big brother. Tech has such a complex over Georgia that it is down right pitiful. So the next year will be like Christmas to you. Geeze guys…you’ve earned it! “CEEEEEEEELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!”

Your belief in the triple “high school” is hilarious. I want to save your blog on my hard drive and call a Tech alumni in New Dehli from Dell Tech support when I lose it in a few years trying to rub it in your face. The Tech alumni will not speak English very well and will think George Godsey is the President of the United States.

And I think I did mention Georgia’s lack of character. Your just beside yourself with such glee and joy you neglected to read my blog that is not filled with jubilee. It is, however, filled with reality.

And before you make fun of Richt being a Bowden disciple, lest we forget the Rueben Houston incident. Both schools have thugs. If Dwyer or Nesbitt were caught with a DUI, PB&J would have pulled a “Bowden” as well.

Get over yourself. You won Saturday and I’m not at all saying it was a cheap win. It was against a defense that is just terrible. You won, we lost. That’s the pinnacle of your program for the future…the ultimate goal. Georgia is to GT as Florida is to Georgia. You’ll beat us every now and then but the difference is laughable. I’ll admit it. Florida owns us. We beat them on a down year last year. You beat us on a down year this year(a down year defensively).

Hey Charlotte Dawg, to win seven in a row you have to start with one. Right now Tech has it, Georgia doesn’t.

Look at Paul Johnson’s body of work. His second years at both Georgia Southern and Navy were dramatic improvements over the first. PJ is going to recruit a whole class of players designed to fit in his system. You really don’t think we’ll be better next year.

Oh, and I loved the Al Queda comment. Lots of class there - the same class UGA fans showed when they clapped for Nesbitt getting (potentially) injured.

Carolina Jacket,

You ignorant slut! I believe Tech holds the record of Boise appearances.

Again, the difference is that Georgia fans won’t even show up to the bowl game or even press down on the power button to watch it on the TV. We are disgusted. The season is over. It was over before the Nerd Herd packed their bags for Athens. Tech just did mop up duty on an already demoralized team.

But if we were Tech, we’d go to Shrevport or Boise with Bells on so proud of our season despite a loss to our arch rival down the road.

That’s the difference Techies. We expect to win this game as an after thought. Tech’s season revolves around Georgia. Tech wasn’t even on Georgia’s radar. Maybe it should have been. Granted, it is now but that will change again in the future. You made us face harsh realities in our own stadium. So congrats! But don’t drink too much of the Kool Aid. Tech is still Tech. And that Tech will always beat Georgia every now and then. That’s sports. That’s life. But Tech will always be Tech.

Enjoy the victory. From 52-7 and 7 years in a row, it was well earned and should be savored.

Georgia wasn’t going to beat Tech forever. At least ya’ll beat us on a year where all was lost even before kick off. If ya’ll had beat us at 10-1 or 11-0, now that would have been terrible. So I’m forced to put this in perspective.

That’s right, the option’s a gimmick. It’ll play itself out, just like it did in Oklahoma and Nebraska. It only takes twenty years or so…

GT likely won’t win seven years in row; teams with better “talent” do win once in a while.

“Char-Pup”, The men in White and Gold CAN beat UGA 7 or more in a row. Here’s why - UGA can’t stop the Triple Option - CWM will have at least one more year to help us - after that our depth and talent will be so much better than it is now - and Paul Johnson is a “real” football coach!

Charlotte Dawg:

1) If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, what a wonderful Christmas we’d have. And there’s been a lot of that on our side the last 7 years, so deal with it when it’s on your side.

2) We’ve beaten georgie 8 years in a row before, and we might do it again. No guarantees—it’s doubtful—but maybe you can retire the guy’s jersey in, what, 2016?

3) Gardner-Webb was played with a third-string QB who doesn’t play the TO very well.

4) If Gailey had not played Reuben Houston, he (Chan) would probably have gone to JAIL for contempt of court. Chan suspended him and the court put him back on the team.

5) Tech once beat georgie 48 to NOTHING. That’s a bigger spread than 51-7. And don’t say it doesn’t count because it was during WWII. Otherwise, we’ll take away your COFH victory in 1942, your 1942 SEC championship, and your 1944 trip to the Rose Bowl.

6) Yep, all Tech alumni are from Asia, and all UGA alumni are from below the gnat line. Intelligent.

7) If COFH isn’t on georgie’s radar, how in the world do you expect to win a national championship? Now that would have sucked (for y’all)—being ranked #1 and then losing it after COFH.

8) If you enjoyed stuffing folks in lockers in high school, and are proud enough about it to still bring it up, you are a complete loser.

Ya know, it’s funny, the people who say the TO is a gimmick. Even when the defense does every thing right, the play usually gains 2-4 yards. There are very few negative yardage plays in this offense (with the exception of penalties).

I thought is was funny Saturday when, just before half, the announcers were raving about UGA’s success against our offense because we had only gained 130, or so, yards on the ground. At that rate they were on pace to give up 250-300 yards on the ground in the game. And that would have been a success!

I was never worried about our offensive output in the game, only that we would not be able to stop Georgia’s offense.

By CHARLOTTE DAWG

December 1, 2008 11:49 AM | Link to this

I’m not discounting Tech’s actual victory. It wasn’t cheap and Georgia was out-coached, out-played, and eventually outscored. Granted the two turnovers by Georgia were the difference but I’m not calling that cheap b/c Tech at least held on to the ball. The better team won.

But the triple option does not, will not work against disciplined defenses. It only works against Miami and Georgia whom have thugs that can run a 4.4 but can’t tackle and learn their assignments.

Didn’t work against UNC and Virginia. My point is those schools don’t get the 4 and 5 star defensive athletes. But they are smart. They practice fundamentals and their assignments b/c they know their brain must make up for their lake of talent compared to the blue chippers. Maybe that’s what Georgia needs.

So as a Georgia fan, I hope we can recruit some smarter players with better fundamentals and have a better DC coaching them. If we don’t do that, Tech has the potential to continue to beat Georgia. But only if Georgia doesn’t adjust with the times.

Don’t get me wrong. PJ is a hell of a coach and deserves all the accolades. The triple option will have its successes and its downfalls. But it CAN be stopped with smart players that don’t fit the profile of Georgia’s safety, Reshad Jones. For Christ sake, I could have pushed Roddey Jones out of bounds on that play! He was probably reaching for his glock just like his good old high school days of gang bangin’.

You beat the kind of team you were “engineered” to beat. You have to respect that. But Georgia will learn from this. This “stings” but don’t get too cocky. Things just got interesting.

And memo to the AJC: I’m all for Tech titling blogs with the word “mutts” in there. Its good old fashioned hate. Don’t care in the least as long as we are allowed to have blogs titled “Dawgs beat the Nerds” the next time we win. Doubt the AJC will allow that though.

Both are tastless and disrespectful and I’m all for that if it goes both ways. Makes things fun.

And for you Tech fans wanting me to get off the blog, that’s fair. But we have to deal with Tech fans similar to myself on the other side as well.

You won and I’m not discounting that. I just didn’t care for the comments on the Georgia blog or this blog so I stepped in.

Enjoy the well earned victory.

Charlotte pup I’m back. I had to go get some lunch. Heck, that was probably you that waited on me at McDonalds. Son you better read your own blog. You never mentioned character unless saying Ugag plays with thugs counts. I think you’re on to something though with that recruiting idea - don’t recruit/sign the 4 and 5 star players, only sign guys with less ability b/c they have to be smarter. Yeah good thinking there, why don’t you call Richt and see if he’ll hire you as recruiting coordinator. Hey try this on for size pea brain - Rueben Houston was off TECH’s team and the courts made TECH reinstate him but hey don’t let the facts get in the way. Maybe you need to read my blog closer 1/2 whit. I said I was disappointed we didn’t beat your pathetic team worse. Clearly I’m not quite as happy as if it were the 2nd coming of Christ. Yeah I bet the pups were real “p**” last year that they were able to come up with 3 loose balls in their own end zone, or 06 when they got a gift TD, or 04 when TECH lost count of the downs at your 25 in the last minute. I’m sure the mutts were counting blesings those days and not worrying about margin of victory. Then you say IF Dwyer or Nesbitt got in trouble blah, blah … fortunately at TECH we generally don’t have to check the police blotter to know who will be in the starting line up from week to week. I’m sure Richt is a really up standing guy but generally teams are a reflection of their coach. Now shut up before I slam you in a locker and saw off the lock.

Charlotte Dawg,

Agreed the triple option CAN be stopped by a diciplined defense. However, PJ has said that he hasn’t instilled a majority of his playbook because his players “aren’t good enough”.

If Tech works in a passing offense to compliment the triple option the defenses we face won’t be able to stack against the run. If that happens, the sky’s the limit.

Hey, I just heard GA Tech is coming out with a movie about their “glorious” 45-42 win on Saturday. I guess when you lose to your in state rival 7 years in a row, one has a tendency to hang their hat on a 3 point victory. Tech reminds me of South Carolina last year with their 16-12 win in Athens. Charlotte Dawg,

We don’t have to beat Georgia 7 times in a row, we have already beaten them 8 times in a row. Your pups were trying to tie the record.

Your team had better be trying to figure out how to stop a Paul Johnson offense that will also include a lot more passing when you stack the box with 8 guys to stop the run.

The rants about how CPJ’s offensive scheme can be “stopped” by disciplined defenses applies to any and ALL offensive schemes. For every play on offense, there is a scheme on defense to counter it.

Fundamentally, the game of football is about blocking, tackling, running, and throwing. Do those things better than your opponent, and you will win.

Can GT beat UGA 7 times in a row? Absolutely. If CPJ stays at GT, he will continue to insist that the fundamentals are sound. UGA has a track record of hiring coaches that will not stress the fundamentals, in favor of playing, what they consider, “fast SEC football”, with the emphasis on speed and strong throwing arms. CPJ has brought to GT what used to exist in the SEC, and other conferences: fundamentals, and toughness. Get used to losing to GT often, unless your program is willing to give up running fast from sideline to sideline, and up and down the field, and starts learning to tackle and run hard.

Football is NOT about speed, despite what you have been lead to believe in the “Modern Era”. Football is about big, strong men up front, that can block on offense and tackle on defense. It is about being able to run the ball 300+ yards a game, and throw when necessary. The SEC has become, essentially, the developmental league for the NFL, and their time in the limelight is coming to an abrupt end, as the other conferences have caught up in the “speed” department. What they fail to see on the horizon, however, is teams with strong fundamentals taking over the college game, until the rest are willing to stop being NFL developmental teams.

Mark my words.

By Richard,

Which disciplined defense stopped the Johnson option attack? Gardner Webb? That game was won by a really good drop back passing QB trying his best to execute an offense he wasn’t suited to run. Can’t call that apples to apples.

You arm chair coaches seem to have all the answers. Georgia’s defensive coach did not come out of the pea patch yesterday. The guy knows something about his craft.

But, you run Johnson’s offense the way it is supposed to be executed and it will set up a lot of one on one situations.

Give me a top caliber running back one on one with the best defensive player in the world and the running back will gain positive yardage 90% of the time.

This offense simply takes what the defense gives you. The difference is the QB doesn’t check off before the ball is snapped, he makes the decision during the play.

I’d sure like to see Tech go “no huddle” with this offense. Bet that would really get the defense talking to themselves.

Paul Johnson will keep the opposing defenses guessing as to what is coming next. He understands the throwing game also. But why throw 60% of the time when you can score 40+ points sprinting to the end zone.

Leave it to a nerd tech weakling to correct me on a 1 point detail. 51-7…sorry nerds. Your missing the point. Unless we go back to WWII, the 51-7 domination of nerds with their v cards still beats 45 to 42.

Ramble On,

God I hope I run into you one day. You’d have me in stitches with laughter.

Its Great…to be….Not a Nerd. Yeah It’s Great to be…Not a Nerd.

While you should be happy, your getting mad at me. Which is great b/c it is my duty not to let you joke weaklings rejoice in anything but math and chess championships.

Glad I could ruin your day and happiness. Just keep hating us. We love it. Enjoy your Christmas presents with the score printed all over T-shirts. God that will be pathetic! When’s the last time you saw Georgia fans do that. Oh that’s right, we don’t compare ourselves to nerds that can’t get a date and had head gear in their high school photos. Come on guys.

And as WestDawg said, yes, act like you’ve been there. I doubt Georgia fans will be this ecstatic when we get pay back next year. But for you guys, beating Georgia is a rare occurrence.

Calling folks like Ramble On “Nerds” is just like Ramble On calling the Dawgs “Mutts.” He’s done it before. He’s done worse. I’ve been reading his insulting posts for quite some time now over at the Georgia blog. So don’t be fooled.

Ramble On,

But your reading my posts, aren’t you boy? Yep, bet you wish I wasn’t on your blog annoying you.

Listen up you pencil necked Geek. If we had won you’d be doing the same thing on our blog. Yeah, it sucks having to read an opposing fans insults on your blog. I’ll stop as soon as you do. You know what you are.

And I’m in your head son! Why don’t you be a smart techie and blog under your real name. Smart move George P. Burdell! Maybe I’ll send you a Christmas card since I’ll now be able to get your address. Retard!

Stings to lose,

Just stop! Other GT “fans” have the sense to know that GT never would have beaten a quality Georgia defense with discipline and a good DC. Georgia was last in the SEC in total defense. Pride comes before the fall. Your “options” will run out in due time.

Sadly, the geeks with pocket protectors think they are all world since the athletes that they claim represent them beat a Georgia team that was down, had no passion, and were poorly coached.

So keep basking in the glory. Your day will come. And when it does, I’ll give it back ten-fold just like Ramble On and the other excited nerds that comprise the GT family.

Keep talkin’ NERDS!

HELL YES! GT can beat GA 7 years in a row, and Saturday proved it; that’s why you play the games on the field!

If any of the GA folks on here actually think GA easily/dominantly won the prior seven games then you have a short memory.

Paul Johnson is not Chan Gailey. Again, Saturday proved this. Paul Johnson does not have players playing the wrong position (i.e. Reggie Ball). This too was proven on Saturday. Paul Johnson’s teams seldom lose rivarly games. This was not only proven on Saturday, but just ask Army & Air Force (Navy was 9-1 vs. those two during PJ’s tenure).

The Tech players are only going to get better and better at their execution of this offense. And, as this happens, the playbook will expand creating more problems for opposing defenses.

I don’t see this being a game in which GA will fair too well in as long as Paul Johnson is Tech’s head coach. Tough to swallow for GA fans, but it’s simply just a reality you’ll have to endure once every 365 days.

Can’t decide which I’ve found more entertaining on the ajc pages since Sunday morning:

a) UGA fans crowing about the Gators owning them to make a point about the Tech-UGa rivalry b) UGA fans spending considerable time on a Tech blog to tell us how little they cared about this game and this rivalry (see the countless “eight in a row” references on our pages for the two weeks prior to the game) c) UGA fans who know more about computer games than I ever have (nerds, indeed) d) Mike’s comment about taking a chainsaw and Round-Up to the hedges and still not killing them

Answer: e) 45-42, with an honorable mention to Mike and d)

Thank you, CPJ and DRAD, for lifting two black clouds this year in beating FSU and UGA. What an opening act!

I guess I’ll wander over to the uga basketball pages and post a bunch of stuff about how I don’t care about them. I tried to think of a team that owns Tech in basketball like UF owns UGA in football so I could continue the analogy, but thanks to Cremins and Hewitt, I came up empty.

last time i looked their run d was ranked in the top 15 in the country … at least until the played gt.

if we had beat you by passing which uf did your excuse would have merit.

but as it stands…. we beat you via the running game.

Saturday I watched a dear friend of mine pass away. We were playing in the yard when something distracted him. He got loose, and disappeared between the hedges. Apparently, he got into a nest of yellow jackets. When I finally got to him, all that was left was his tattered red sweater. Unfortunately it was not a quick death. It took about 4 hours and I could tell that he was in pain. It was touch and go for a while as they tried to bring him around but it just didn’t work. It was a fitting day for such a sad event. Rain, cold, windy….Oh why couldn’t it have just been nice and sunny. Why did this have to happen!

In the end he fought bravely but just couldn’t overcome all the obstacles that had been placed in his way.

I will miss the old fella. We had such big plans but seems a higher power has called an end to that.

It is extraordinarily satisfying watch 80,000+ head back to their trailors knowoing they have nothing else going for them in life (sans for perhaps nascar) and will dwell on this for an entire year. I absolutely love it…

As for calling Tech fans nerds, keep it coming. We actually relish this; for nerds help socitey. Who else is going to design better aircraft, research cancer, and advance the technologial frontier? What do you rednecks contribute to society other than drinking exorbitant amount of PBR, wear mullets, watch nascar, obsess about U[sic]GA football, and pluck your banjos? You are inferior - and always will be inferior - to Tech (even if you win more football games).

As all of my friends know. I am an avid bulldog lover. I have kept watch over a group of bulldogs for many years and have taken pride in the many things that they do. I defended them when they were kicked with Hobnailed boots….Covered them when Sugar rained down from the sky. But watching them get swarmed by a bunch of yellowjackets broke my heart. CHARLOTTE THE DAWG,

You’re a perfect example of what’s wrong with UGA and UGA fans…you’re so busy patting yourself on the back, pumping yourself up that you forget to win the games first. I read all kinds of national articles and mailbags and there are no more delusional fans than those from UGA. Last season, you lose to Spurrier (again) and get blasted by Tennessee, but you win 7 games in a row and all of a sudden you deserve to play for the national title despite not winning the SEC? The arrogance involved in that is staggering. You beat Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl and you are somehow the favorite to win the national title the next season? Hawaii had one of the worst schedules in history and barely scraped by in some of those games to go undefeated and beating them is somehow supposed to be a springboard to national prominence? Gimme a break. Only in the minds of UGA fans could these things be possible. As much as Mark Richt has elevated your program, it has topped out. Other SEC coaches have come in and won national titles in less time than Richt has been at UGA (Meyer at UF, Saban and Miles at LSU). The talent isn’t lacking, so it isn’t a matter of recruiting. The one time Richt showed any fire, is the one time UGA showed any signs of making a leap to the next level, but it was short lived.

As for me and the Jacket nation, we’ll take our fiery coach and his “high school offense” any day over yours and his “pop warner defense”.

TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!!

By Ramblin Wrecker

December 3, 2008 4:43 PM | Link to this

And for those Dawg fans or whoever out there who want to call this offense a “high school offense”, let me enlighten you. Nebraska won 3 national championships in the 90’s running the option, the last one coming in 1998, Tom Osbourne’s last year as head coach. Nebraska was still a power as late as 2001, finishing #2 in 1999 and #7 in 2000 & 2001. If not for a slight hiccup in 2002 of going 7-7, Frank Solich might have continued as coach and continued the offense (as Nebraska went 10-3 in Solich’s final season) and who knows what would have happened. But the facts remain that in the last 10 seasons that Nebraska (the last major program to run the option) was running an option offense, they went 119-22 a winning % of 84%. The offense works. Any conclusion other than that is ludicrous.
