Five & One and Looking Forward…
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
So the Jackets are sitting at 5-1 with their toughest games still ahead.
Lets take a look at each game based on where the teams are today…
October 18 at Clemson - The Tigers have disappointed this season, just had their coach removed, will be starting a freshman quarterback, will be missing CJ Spiller, and are extremely soft on the offensive line. They’ll come out fired up and emotional but once again I think we’ll see Tech’s defensive line dominate.
October 25th hosting Virginia - The Hoos looked woeful in their first four games, scoring a combined total of 20 points while giving up over 150 points on defense. But then in their last two games they’ve come out on top with two wins by a combined 66-20 score. Are the Cavaliers settled down and for real after a rough start? We’ll learn alot when we see how they play against UNC this coming weekend.
November 1st hosting Florida State - I just watched the FSU / NCSU game and while the Noles notched a win on the road I was not overly impressed with their offensive line. This is a game that GT can dominate defensively up front. FSU hasn’t beaten anyone with a winning record at this point and Ponder will be running for his life when he makes his first trip to Atlanta.
November 8th at North Carolina - This game will be huge and I predict it will have a large impact on the ACC title hunt. The Heels are legit and the Jackets will have to go on the road to face them.
November 20th hosting Miami - Miami is down this year and I predict they’ll be even lower by the time they visit Bobby Dodd Stadium for a Thursday night nationally televised game on ESPN. I’m really curious to see how Duke plays them this coming weekend.
November 29th at UGA - Clean Old Fashioned Hate. Not much more to say there. I’m not going to make even the smallest prediction on this one yet. We need to see how GT plays against FSU and UNC. We need to see how UGA plays against the Gators and LSU. Its entirely possible that one or both teams could come into this game solidly in the mix for their respective conference championships. If the Jackets and Dawgs are both 9-2 or better coming into this game…look out!
Realistically I think we’ll probably be 8-3 coming into the UGA game with a chance to make a statement and secure a Gator Bowl bid. That would be outstanding in the first season under Coach Johnson and an immediate improvement over the status quo of 7-5 from the previous regime.

Thank God we have a great coach NOW so we can look forward to the upcoming games with optimism. And Thank God and Greyhound that the “previous regime” is GONE FOREVER.

**So, Chris, which two are you predicting we are going to lose?
Or, are you just trying to be conservative?
This team can win the remainder!!!
Yes, a fumble here, a secondary breakdown there or an unfortunate “judgment” call by an official can cost a game.
But, why not enjoy the moment and be optimistic that this current group of jackets is special?**

First, the obligatory NO LOOKING FORWARD ALLOWED! The only game that matters right now is Clemson.
Clemson: We should be able to beat them, as long as we don’t have another G-W performance. That goes for all of these games, for that matter. I think that Clemson still needs another week or two to regain their footing (probably more than that, since after hosting Tech they go on the road to BC and FSU, both of whom should beat them).
UVA: Thank goodness we have them at home. They seem to be on fire. We’ll see if it lasts…we should be able to beat them. I don’t think the UNC game this weekend will tell us too much if it is close (see UNC below for why). If UNC blows them out, it should be a good Homecoming game, if you know what I mean. Next year the Charlottesville jinx goes down.
FSU: They certainly didn’t look like world-beaters last night against NCSU (the worst team in the ACCA, depending on the kind of week Maryland is having). This is looking better for Tech…plus we have them at home. Time for us to step up and beat them for once in conference play.
UNC: A critical road game, but UNC is getting eaten up by injuries. Feeling better about this one as well, although for the sake of good sportsmanship I never like feeling better about a team because of injuries.
Miami: Could be the easiest game left depending on how UVA looks. The ownership of the Canes will continue.
UGA: We will not be favored—even if UGA loses to Florida, LSU, and Vandy—and that’s all I’m gonna say. Should be a good game with an 8:00 ABC or CBS kick if both teams are 10-2 or better.

again, i say to you “m”, why do you have to rag on Gailey? and why do you use that same lame line about “God & Greyhound” in your posts? are you really that simple-minded? come up with something different. and shut the F up about Chan, we’re all tired of hearing it. this article had NOTHING to do with Chan Gailey. leave him alone. shut it.

Because Chan destroyed our program for the last 6 years and those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it. The only thing that sucks worse than having had Chan for a coach is those of you that tolerated him or even defended him….if you did you suck worse than he does if that is possible. Thank God and Greyhound that Chan is gone Forever and we must not ever let a mistake like that be repeated.

You deaf or something?? I done told you Gailey picked Tech’s pocket and left town 1st class on Delta. Greyhound didn’t get into the act at all. Quit giving them free publicity.

Everybody says, “one game at a time, no looking ahead” and then tries to predict the next six games. NOT SMART. Did you not see the game last week?
Clemson is the only game that matters. I like our D against their O-line and young QB. However, they still have Davis at RB and a very talented group of receivers. We need to play them tough early and not let them get any confidence.
The bigger concern going in is how will our offense function against their D. We can’t turn the ball over and give them a short field or this game get out of hand.
I like Tech to win but suspect we’ll have to fight harder to win than most of us suspect.
