Take the W and Move On!

I had a great weekend at West Point. Army beat Eastern Michigan in a tight 17-14 contest on a perfect day for football and in a truly beautiful and historic setting. Cadets marching, skydivers delivering the game ball, canons celebrating each score and the end of each period, and ecstatic home fans enjoying a tough Homecoming victory. In short…awesome! That was followed Sunday morning with a game of touch football between the groomsmen, in Michie Stadium, and my 17 month old running wild across midfield while I chased her with camera in hand. It concluded with dinner and dancing at the officer’s club, overlooking the Hudson River, late into the evening.

I detail all of the above to preface the fact that a 10-7 win over Gardner Webb wasn’t enough to damper the weekend for me. The Jackets won…that’s about all I needed to know. Sure, I got a flurry of pages and text messages from friends who were at the game and I was waiting anxiously to hear if that final field goal attempt was good or not. But once that W was in the books I didn’t think about it again until I got home and started getting caught up.

The general concensus seems to be that Coach Johnson attempted running his option offense with Calvin Booker at the controls. That surprised me. I would have expected Johnson to mix things up a bit and play to Booker’s strengths. Its pretty easy to predict that Gardner Webb would sell out on the dive in order to take Dwyer out of the game and force Booker to get outside or pitch. He’s a great competitor and a real team guy, but he’s just not built for that offense.

I’ve hoped or suspected all season that Coach Johnson had some sort of two minute desperation package for Booker since he’s our most polished passer. I’d hoped and expected that we’d run some of that against Gardner Webb as a way to get Booker some live playing time in case he was needed in a come-from-behind situation later in the season.

Apparently my hopes, expectations, and suspicions were unfounded.

On one hand I have to give Coach Johnson credit for not panicking and putting one of our injured QBs into the game. That took alot of “fortitude”.

But on the other hand, one has to wonder if we have an offensive version of Coach Tenuta…stubborn to a fault and unwilling to make a change when things are obviously off the rails and into the ditch.

In the end, I think our coach has more “fortitude” than “Tenuta” in the mix. But make no mistake…we could have lost that game to Gardner Webb…

Go Jackets!

Chris,

I think its an interesting question if our coach is stubborn to fault. However, I think it would be a bad idea to radically change your play calling in a game. If the players have not practiced some special package in practice or previous games, I doubt that package would work better than their standard offense. The key is that the base attack is balanced or you have practiced and regularly use a variety of “packages”.

In this particular game it was a moot point, our offensive line couldn’t block a powder puff team. Trying to pass with a big slow quarterback would be as effective as running with a big slow quarterback.

Tenuta was a one trick pony. Paul Johnson has a million tricks up his sleeve….he just has to have the right personal to run them. It is going to be fun to watch over the next several years. And all you Gailey lovers suck….Thank God and Greyhound that he is gone.

I sat through the whole GW game. The defense played very well and without the “leaping” penalty would have shut out GW. The offensive linemen frequently didn’t even touch a GW defender during a play. They truely seemed to be in a trance, and were moving as if their feet were in concrete shoes. It is a strange thing to watch better players getting soundlt beat play after play by lesser players. That said, we’ll know what we have in the offensive line by 3 PM Saturday. Booker’s passes were frequently 10 feet or more off his target…very scary. No wonder CPJ didn’t throw the ball more. Go JACKETS!!!!! THWG!!!!!

I know, I know. Calvin B. is a great team player, a senior leader, and has great heart…He also couldn’t beat out Taylor Bennett last year, and never would have started at Auburn. Put simply, he is a slow, inaccurate qb, trying to run the TO…Thats not a very good combo. Im with you though. After a few days to get over the initial shock (and having to read the pansies panic on here, although it might have been mutts in disguise), im just happy with the W, and moving on to Clemson. If anything, I think this put a good scare in our guys, and im sure that PJ will let them know his displeasure all week during practice. I would be amazed if they came out flat against Clemson b/c PJ is going to put the fear of God into them this week.

If Booker does have a special package put together, it might be that Coach Johnson didn’t want to show Bookers package to the world in that game. Go Jackets!~

So, Chris, where’s the whining, the b—ching, and the moaning about not being in the top-25 this week?

I mean, your blog last week was full of it, or is that s—t?

So why are you pitching a fit about not being in the top-25 this week, Chris, since your Bugs so obviously deserve it as you said they do?

Come on Chris, is it too much to ask from you stupid Bugs to have a little consistency from week to week in your whining, b—ching, and moaning?

Then again, what more to expect from a fanbase that is so obsessed with their instate rival that they saw to hell with Georgia all year long, even after victories and losses to completely different teams.

Maybe when you morons learn to divest yourselves of that bitterness and take it one game at a time instead of being obsessed with Georgia, maybe then you’ll actually be something more than stupid, little Bugs.

So after one bad game everyone is turning against coach Paul Johnson’s offense after singing his praises to start the season. I hate fair weather fans more then UGAG fans. You are a bunch of whinning pu$$y$. 5-1 is still 5-1. I will take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.

Hey Bug Killer- we had a bad game, so no one is complaining about not being in the top 25 now, because we don’t think we deserve it as much. We were also complaining about Auburn being in the top 25, after continually proving they were garbage, and just riding on the coat tails of the SEC (but now that has taken care of itself after they lost to ungodly Arkansas).

After Bama raped your women and took your first born, I didn’t see any UGAG fans complaining about not being #1 like they had the previous few weeks…Or about NOshow deserving more highlights and the Heisman (what did he have, 40 yards???)

Maybe when you start to grasp the concept of LOGIC you can come in here and spew something more than your normal crap that completely lacks it.

Maybe when more than half of your fan base graduates highschool, you will be more than pathetic, low class, white trash mutts.

No, but I did hear a bunch of Tech fans popping off at the mouth like it was their team that beat Georgia. What do you expect in return when your crap team scrapes by Gardner flippin’ Webb? Its always the same. The Techies sure can dish it out but they seem to have a hard time taking it. Go cry to mommy about what big fat meanies UGA fans are like you always do you panty waste Tech fan. Good grief.

See you in late November. With an off week before the game I’m sure UGA will have plenty of time to study that Gardner Webb game film. Good luck. You’ll need it.

How am I “crying to mommy”??? I would much rather you mutts talk trash about a bad game, with our third string qb (that no matter what, we still won), rather than having our first string defiled by Saban & Co.

Im pretty sure that everyone, besides other mutts, enjoys a good beat down on the Saintly Richt and the flea bags b/c of all the crying you girls did last year after being left out. And how you award yourselves the MNC at the start of EVERY year.

Study the G-W game all you want. We will have the Bama game, the Gator game, and probably the LSU game to study from as well. You mutts are screwed this year. But NEXT year is your year….It always is.

UGA fans, Why didn’t ya’ll move up in the polls after that huge UT win this weekend? Could it be that all the coaches in the country see ya’ll as what you are, overrated? So you squeak by a POOR UT team and think you have room to talk about us? Our 5-1 looks alot better than your 5-1! You are the same idiots that said we would be 2-4 right now-even DUKE will beat us, right? You better worry about your own state of affairs right now. I listened to the post game talk after Ugag’s game the other night. Talk about a bunch of whiney fans!! You would have thought ya’ll got beat. We had a letdown this weekend, but don’t be decieved. That is all it was. And we will be ready in Nov, believe it!!! Go Jackets-

A young boy gets hired as a locker room janitor for the University of Georgia football team. Excitedly, he asks the elder janitor veteran, “So, when the football team wins a National Championship, do we get rings too?” The elder man replies, “I wouldn’t know. I’ve only worked here 25 years.”

I meant that you were going to lose those games (to Bama, LSU, and UF), thus we would have game film from them to watch, in response to your comment on G-W film.

How is that a delusion of grandeur? Your reading comprehension is astounding. How could you not understand that? You sir, are retarded.

Big difference in squeaking by a Tennessee team that was rated 5th in the country in defense. And getting a prayer answered from above to block a fieldgoal against GW. If you can’t distinguish between the two of those outcomes, In your dreams you have overrated yourself.

Hey M—- shut your pie hole with the Gailey comments. You use that same stupid God/Greyhound line in every friggin post about GT. Let it go. I’m tired of hearing it; we all are. We won a game in which we were flat with several big games coming up. Those in the past have mean upset against Tech. That said we were playing with the 3rd and 4th string Qb’s in a new scheme in which they have had much playing time against a better than many think GW team. There’s always Tevin Washington too since we are pulling Wright-Texas? back into action and out of redshirt status. Tevin Washington is familiar with this offense. Help is also coming in next year with one or two QB’s. It’s my opinion, this offense will need 3 QB’s who can play on a saturday and then one or two in the wings either in redshirt status or who can move over to play in case of need. The QB is so important to this offense, well I guess all of them but particularly this one. Hat’s off to the Defense and speicial teams as they helped win the game.
