One Week until Toe Meets Leather!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Peri…who?
This time next Thursday night I should be enjoying a little triple option while watching lots of second and third team guys get playing time against Jacksonville State. I know…I know…they have Ryan Perrilloux at quarterback and our offense is going to be a work in progress. Yeah…sure…whatever.
The truth of the matter is that Perrilloux isn’t going to have the offensive line he needs to make a difference in this game. Vance Walker, Michael Johnson, and Darryl Richard will kick off a set of senior seasons on one of the best defensive lines we’ve seen at Tech in decades. All three of those guys will play in the NFL and odds are good that more than one of them will be selected in the first day of the NFL draft.
Perrilloux will make a few plays, the guy is a super athlete, but he’s going to be running for his life more than a little bit. Jacksonville State’s best chance at scoring will be taking advantage of a Jacket turnover or a special teams blunder. Or maybe against our reserves late in the game.
No disrespect to Jacksonville State. Honestly. It just the way things will be.
Up with the White and Gold!
By now, everyone should have seen the new uniforms. There’s been plenty of banter back and forth on the message boards. The overall impression seems to be favorable with a few diehard opponents that babble on about tradition and etc as if we’re somehow Penn State or Michigan or Notre Dame or one of the schools with long time uniforms that haven’t changed.
News flash people…our uniforms change every season! They always have. Its just that this time we’ve combined a little modern look and graphics with the old school gold from back in the “golden” days of GT football. I’m quite content to see the washed out, yellowish “Vegas” gold replaced with a darker gold like we see on the new uniforms.
I think the gold tops and white pants will be really sharp. I’m also curious to see where the rumored white helmets and blue tops may show up. Perhaps at the Homecoming game? Not to mention rumors of a possible “white out” against Mississippi State to open the real home slate, wearing white tops and white pants with the gold helmet.
Honestly, Tech fans needs to “sack up” and quit looking for things to complain about. Its not like we’ve tried something as earth shattering and innovative as black jersies! Can you imagine the novelty that would have been. What horror…what madness…
One of my season ticket and tailgating buddies had the right reaction when he first saw the pictures and responded, “Those will look great in our opponent’s endzone!”
That’s all that really counts and I concur!
Go Jackets!

I like the new uniforms. They grow on you and once out team hits the field, folks will see how well they look as well as the players in them.
I like the fact the team went through the game like scrimmage tonight. It can only help get the kinks out before Thursday night.
Go Jackets!!!

Uniforms, uniforms, uniforms………
Good Lord who gives a rip? Can we just talk football please?
They’ve got a week to get game ready, it sounds like the scrimmage was a disaster. Classes have started, no more “luxury” of two a days. It’s most likely gonna be a long season.
The challenge is going to be keeping the faith. Just remember come late October, most of us Tech fans wanted a coaching change. So support the program and get your butts in the seats. That’s what real fans do! No excuses please.

I hope we don’t go with any “white out” crap. Just stick with the uniforms that we have.
My biggest concern for the football team will be the turnovers. We should beat Jacksonville State, but the rest of the games will be interesting.

For God’s sake…can people stop complaining about the color on the uniforms, a white out, etc. I swear, you would think that some of the people complaining have nothing else going on in their lives. My main goal is to support GT athletics in every way that I possibly can.

The thing is, our D-line should give our offense second chances galore. So the early sputtering and hickups will become minimal much faster than people believe, so we should have a good preview of the offensive potential to come. This opening day game will have some ugly mistakes I’m sure, but it also should be filled with big plays and sneak previews of what will come down the road. I’m prepared for several scenarios that could be Tech’s season, so no major expectations, just loving the work in progress!

Covering the Pre-Season Chic-kil-a bowl. We have BAMA on our schedual in a few years and we just did the Auburn for home & home. So, why not try to get in the game against UT? It has been since late 70’s or early 80’s that we played? Play in a GOLD JOCK, Shoulder Pads, and a Helmet. I don’t care let’s just play some exciting ball and win.

I don’t care if we play in burlap sacks with spray painted on numbers. It’s about WINNING, not whining about uniforms people

Why are Tech fans so confident that their defense will be good this year? There is very little evidence to support this contention. Yes, you’ve got 3 good players up front, but that is it. 3 good players up front does not make a defense good. Who is backing them up? Whoever is backing them up needs to be good too because you’ve got to keep your defense fresh. Otherwise Walker, Johnson, and Richard will get worn down as the game goes along. Who is playing behind them? I have remarkably heard very little about Tech’s linebackers and defensive backs. From what I have gathered Tech’s defense is very inexperienced and lacks depth. This squad will be average at best in my opinion. I’m not trying to start anything. I’m just being honest. I don’t see the source of all this optimism. Sorry.

Only a Bug would cast dispersions on a brilliant tactical change of uniform by our head coach used as motivation for our team in a game we weren’t favored to win, as well organizing about 90,000 people 6 days before the game and getting them all to show up to the stadium wearing black.
‘Cause, you know, that didn’t work out at all, right? I mean, the emotional lift provided by the fans to the team, as well as the fact that the stadium has never been louder or more united (including most of the wine & cheesers), didn’t really work out, right?
Good luck with your “white out.”
Here’s guessing it won’t even be half as successful as the Blackout. But what do you expect when you can’t even sell out your stadium?
And, BTW, your uniforms are now easily the ugliest uniforms in college football.
That shade of yellow brings a whole new definition of ugly. If your old yellow was urine-yellow, this new yellow could only be seen as asparagus-urine-yellow. The fact that your team stinks just adds to the effect.

The uniforms are growing on me. Can’t wait for next Thursday night when the Ramblin Wreck leads the 08 team on the field. I still think Tech is looking at a 6-6 season but hope for better. Alot of youth on this team bodes well for the future.

Bob, If you want to talk about ugly you forgot to mention some of the hillbilly UGA fans that show up in Athens to support the Dawgs. Also, that stupid Bulldog logo wearing the baseball cap is probably the ugliest logo in all of sports.

Bob-
I like seinfeld as well. You are a huge loser however, so go back to surfing the web for free porn. Please stick to your own blog, instead of coming in here with your UGArbage.

Wow, “I will when y’all do” …what are you 6? Are you the defender of the uga blog? Your wit certainly shows. You see crap written on there (uga blog), so then you come in here and spew your nonsense? Look at the latest Tech beat blog. It has more immature freaks writing on it than on any other blog (most likely uga sidewalk fans). So go ahead, be a whiny child and “defend the uga blog”. Pathetic

Hey Boggs…another tough posting. I gotta say as a life-long Tech fan that I am a little embarrassed on the topics I am forced to read about on this thing. Do you really think in Athens that they are worried about pom poms and jersey colors? That is why not only our players have a hard time regaining the mental toughness advantage we had on our rivals in the 90’s…but also as fans, we seem to have the same problem. I just am eager to read intelligent writing that motivates me to watch and root for the talent on the gridiron- instead preparing me for the “ACC beauty queen contest”. But regardless, thanks for the entertainment. And as always, Go Tech!! The Buzzer Beater

HAHAHAHA….I just wanted to laugh in everyones face who argued with me about “lagging” ticket sales. They are now up 200 from last year. Yes, not the greatest, but they are still UP…..JUST LIKE I SAID. So here is a big f-you to everyone who said “sales lagging 176 is still sales lagging”, that being down 1% wouldn’t be made up in the last couple weeks, and that we would not end up selling the same amount (if not more) of tickets, even though the comparisons were made at 2 different points.
Who said that the difference would be made up by the end of the season??? Oh yeah, me! So up yours (you know who i am talking to)
